Beyond Bread: Grains Under Wraps If you’ve walked down the bread isle recently it is no longer a simple decision such as white, wheat or rye. Today sliced bread is only a small percentage of what you find on the bread isle. Now it is shared with wraps, flatbreads, pitas, bagels, English muffins and more! Did You Know? The survival packets found on each floor have a referral form to be filled out and faxed to Diabetes Education. This enables us to follow-up with patients after discharge.

Here is what to look for: - 100% whole grain (the first ingredient should list whole wheat flour, not enriched wheat flour). - No more than 200 milligrams of sodium - Less than 4 grams of added sugar - At least 3 grams of fiber Examples of the above are: - Pepperidge Farm whole grain mini 100% whole-wheat bagels

Health Tip Whole grains, such as brown rice, offer many health benefits, including helping you to maintain a healthy weight.

- Nature’s Own 100% whole wheat English muffins Remember to always read the food label. Health claims on the package like light or low-carb may be deceiving.
