Habitat St. Charles ReStore welcomes loyal shoppers and new guests to shop their new and improved location Months after announcing the relocation of the Habitat St. Charles ReStore to 186 Mid Rivers Center in St. Peters, the doors finally opened at 10am on Friday, March 14 after a well attended ribbon cutting ceremony. To recognize the partnership and positive impact Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County (HFHSCC) has with the community, HFHSCC staff invited its fellow members and ambassadors of the St. Charles, O’Fallon, Cottleville, and Western Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting ceremony before the door opened and shopping began. The ribbon cutting ceremony began with a prayer from close Habitat supporters and friends, Pastor Mark Dumas of Wentzville United Methodist Church and his wife, Reverend Chris Dumas of Gambrill Gardens Senior Living Communit, giving warm wishes for future success and guidance through this new and exciting transition. Following the prayer were a few words from current Habitat St. Charles board President, Jim Franke and Executive Director, Nancy Cope. During the time of building the new location, Franke and Cope worked closely together to ensure strong communication and support between HFHSCC staff and HFHSCC board members. O’Fallon Chamber board member, Jeff Arneson—who also serves on the Habitat St. Charles board member—presented Cope and ReStore Manager Andrea
Hughes, with a commemorative framed first dollar, signed by fellow O’Fallon Chamber members. “The only word I can use to sum up our grand opening was ‘awesome’. We really enjoyed sharing this exciting morning with our fellow Chamber members and the Habitat St. Charles board. It’s very important to us to maintain and grow a great connection with the people of St. Charles County,” said Cope. “We are here to build homes,” said Assistant ReStore Manager, Lori Kehoe, “A byproduct of that is being able to divert waste from landfills and sell our items at a large retail discount. How awesome is that?” The Habitat St. Charles ReStore first opened its doors on Trade Center Drive West—known as a more industrial part of St. Peters—in 2007. Now, with a more visible, bigger location in St. Peters, the Habitat St. Charles staff found themselves greeting many new ReStore customers at the front door on Friday morning. “The support of the community, the donations, our volunteers, and the support of the staff—all of it in the past three months has amazed me,” Hughes said. “I can’t wait to see how many more homes we’ll be able to build [in St. Charles County] because of the success of the ReStore.” What can you find at the ReStore? HFHSCC describes the ReStore as a recycled home building materials store,
containing items as encompassing as lighting fixtures, cabinets, doors, kitchen/bath accessories, as well as varying home décor products. Habitat St. Charles ReStore accepts donations from the public in the categories of appliances, cabinets, countertops, décor doors, electrical, flooring, hardware, kitchen and bath accessories, furniture, HVAC, lights, lumber, trim, outdoor, paint, sinks, storage, plumbing, tools and windows. There are some items the ReStore can not accept, such as dirty or soiled soft furniture, mattresses, futons, electronics clothing, exercise See ReStore page 2
