Q: Name your most influential musical inspirations. Michael Jackson, Jay Z, Kanye West & Justin Bieber. Q: First record you ever bought? Bone Thugz and Harmony-Crossroads. Q: Defining moment that led you to become a DJ? At the age of 12, I was sitting at home during spring break and “Spring Break on MTV” came on. DJ Scribble was spinning and he was the star of the show. He was the host of the show and on between breaks he was mixing music, from then on I wanted to be a DJ. Q: You are Justin Bieber’s personal DJ. What is it like touring with one of the biggest names in the music industry? It’s honestly still a surreal feeling and I’m blessed to have my job. It’s nothing like touring the world to make thousands of people smile. Q: Do you have a pre-show routine/regime? Honestly pre-show is real chill, we may play a quick game of ping pong or listen to music. Everyone’s main focus is the show. Q: Is there a song that reminds you of a certain point in your life? Maybe not a song but an Album. Drake’s So Far Gone and Kanye West’s Graduation are probably two of my favorite albums ... they both came out during pivotal times in my life. Q: Describe the craziest Belieber fan encounter you experienced while on tour. Nothing really that crazy, but in Norway it was so hectic that when trying to pull into the venue, the fans ripped out the van door wide open, and started to step on.
Q: Which other Artists would you like to do a future collaboration with? I would love to work with new independent artists... I love to help with the creative process of projects. Q: Aside from DJ-ing, what are your other interests and hobbies? I’m trying my hand in production and my main focus have been the ‘We Know The Music’ foundation I recently started. Step 1: Cut the lime into wedges and place in a large highball glass and muddle well Step 2: Add the rhubarb syrup, then clap all of the mint leaves in your hand and drop them into the glass. Step 3: Add crushed ice followed by 2 onces of BACARDI 8 and top with soda. Step 4: Stir the contents up lightly enough to bring the lime pieces from the bottom of the glass to the middle and top but don't stir to the point of loosing the fizz from the soda Step 5: Top with a little more crushed ice and garnish with a large bouquet of mint. If you have sugar cane or rhubarb you can cut them into sticks and they also make an outstanding garnish.

INGREDIENTS - 2oz BACARDI - 8.5oz freshly squeezed lime juice - 12 fresh Mojito or spearmint leaves - 1.25oz rhubarb syrup - splash soda water
INGREDIENTS 1.5oz Grey Goose L’Orange Vodka .5oz Freshly squeezed lemon juice .5oz Simple syrup 2 dashes Angostura orange bitters 5 blackberries Top with Perrier sparkling water Add Grey Goose L’Orange, lemon juice, simple syrup, bitters, and blackberries to a shaker and shake well. Strain over ice into an old fashioned glass. Top with Perrier and stir through delicately. Garnish with skewered blackberries.

TORONTO-BASED DJ WRISTPECT CHATS ABOUT TORONTO AND THE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SCENE, AS WELL AS THE FIRST RECORD HE EVER BOUGHT.
Q: HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY? I started by attending local DJ battles and being mesmerized by what those guys were doing with two turntables, a mixer and some records. They were literally using the turntables to manipulate sounds and make it sound like they were playing several different instruments at once. One thing led to another, and as I started going to all-ages club nights I was captivated by how the DJ was controlling a room of 2500 kids and I would spend the whole night by the DJ booth, just watching and studying. When I decided I wanted to get out of my basement and start playing clubs, I started as an opening DJ, paying my dues and warming up the room for some of the bigger names in the city.

Toronto is a world class city with a world class music scene that plays a major influence to millions of people around the globe. We have artists from all types of genres on the forefront of popular music right now - Drake, Justin Bieber, Deadmau5, Walk Of The Earth, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Weeknd and so many more. Even on an independent level, we have so many amazing artists and producers who are making major waves worldwide. It’s interesting because when I would travel to other cities or countries 5 years ago and mention that I was from Toronto or Canada, no one really cared. Now, it is a completely different story as people realize just how much talent is over here. I was introduced to DJ-ing at age 12, my older brother and cousin were bedroom DJ’s and I was fascinated by the technology and the sounds.
I’d like to do a collab with Danny Tenaglia, he’s a very well respected DJ worldwide and has a rich history in music.
It’s Time To Party by Raydio (70’s & 80’s funk group featuring My remix of Calling (Lose My Mind) – Joe Marella & LOS Ray parker Jr.) I was a disco & funk child being the youngest of Bootleg Reconstruction. 8 (2 brothers and 5 sisters).
Q: Do you have a pre-show routine/regime? Q: Most memorable show you’ve ever been I try not to listen to club music for at least ½ of the day prior to a gig. a part of? I was the DJ of choice for Cher’s Farewell Concert at the Skydome (Roger’s Centre). I am a purveyor of all music. Genres are too confusing, especially to today’s generation. I was a drummer in my early days and loved Jeff Porcaro (Toto) & Jonathan Moffatt (Quincy Jones studio band), they knew how to keep a groove without overdoing it.

Being the youngest of 8 siblings, I got a lot of records handed down, I don’t really recall the first “one” but there have been many since.

I’m a vinyl junkie, but I realize that digital is the future and I’ve adapted and will keep adapting as long as there is change. Change is good.
Q: Where do you see the DJ movement in the next 5 years?
So many people believe that they can create a playlist of mp3’s and use software to “mix” the songs, therefore they call themselves a “DJ”. The MOST important part of being a DJ is the ability to read your crowd and feed off of their energy. My motto is “keep them on the dancefloor.” I refuse to let my audience slip away and then have to play to “bring them back.” The digital movement has made it too easy for anyone to claim to be a DJ.
