Letter to the Editor To Whom It May Concern: I understand that Muslim Link is an up and coming newspaper, still figuring out the steps necessary to establish themselves as a credible news agency. I also understand that freedom of speech is mandatory to ensure credibility but some type of filtration system of what can and cannot be published has to be established. Weekly I read the newspaper my father brings home from the masjid and I attempt to overlook the grammatical flaws and spelling errors I see constantly to get to the deeper meaning of the articles, but the most recent letter to the editor (July 24, 2009 issue, “Are NonMuslims Infiltrating Muslim Groups?”) was appalling and it would be ideal to the population of Muslim and nonMuslim readers with a active conscious who read Muslim Link to avoid the type of judgmental and needlessly

Muslim Link, being one of the public faces of Islam as a religion and Muslims should take into consideration it’s heavy responsibility and act responsibility. And maybe hire a proofreader or two. Wided Rihana Khadraoui Virginia -----Assalamu’alykum Wided. Thanks for your email and for being a regular reader. The Muslim Link stays away from confrontational content, especially with regard to our sister

Islamic organizations. However, the Progressive Muslim Network (PMN) is an exceptional case. We feel the organization negatively portrays the Muslim community and brazenly misrepresents Islam. PMN is a relatively active and media savvy organization, so we feel its necessary for Muslims to make it clear that PMN does not represent Muslims or Islam. PMN is “anyone’s Islam”, and promotes understanding the Qur’an independent of scholarship, bound only by the limits of “free thought”. Taking this approach to Islam, we are left with something hardly recognizable. Islam accommodates different views and outlooks, but within the framework of the Qur’an and Sunnah. PMN wants to remove that framework and still claim the “Muslim” name. That’s not fair to Islam or Muslims. -- TML

confrontational type of writing. More importantly instead of negatively critiquing attempts of individuals whose backgrounds, ideas and convictions are not clear to anyone but God, the writer should go out and organize events by himself, maybe in his basement with other blasé and limited minds who can deal out judgment as they see fit.
