Capacity crowd attends launch of Ancient Sweet Donoughmore Ancient Sweet Donoughmore: Life in an Irish Rural Parish to 1900 was launched last month in Stuake, Donoughmore. It was standing room only as the capacity attendance enjoyed a highly entertaining evening where old friends met and reminisced. John O’ Connell MC acclaimed the determination, foresight, vision and courage of the author Gerard O’ Rourke to publish this new information for the benefit of the public. Guest speaker Michael Lenihan delved into the book and highlighted some interesting anecdotes such as the fact that hidden treasure is buried in the townland of Pluckanes. Of particular interest was a story about a tenant’s lease agreement in the late 18th century. The plight of the people during the famine was another fact that has not been universally known. Mr Lenihan remarked that as an avid local history collector this book was one of the finest he had seen in every aspect. Author Gerard O’ Rourke recalled the research and publication of his first book A History of Donoughmore Hurling & Football Club in 1885 where he found that a vast amount of information on the parish was waiting to be explored. Family commitments postponed any intensive research for this book but he made provision for future investigation by detailing sources and references. His involvement in the local historical society’s two journals and his close involvement with Richard Henchion in the publication ‘Donoughmore and All Around’ further delayed the present work. Following this, time permitted him to unravel Donoughmore’s early history and through extensive research the basis of a publication was made, but it took five years of intensive work. A recitation of an old parish poem The Cross of Donoughmore by Joseph Twomey accompanied by Oisin Sheehan provided an uplifting experience for the attendance. The finale was a recorded version of the poem/ ballad Ancient Sweet Donoughmore by Paddy Foley formerly of Ballycunningham which brought rapturous applause on a night when Donoughmore came alive. The publication, which retails at €25, is of interest to anyone with a connection to Donoughmore and makes a perfect Christmas gift. It is available

in many local stores, from the author (021 7337368) or online at www.donoughmore.com.

The November Blarney Person of the Month is local lady Anne Gabriel. Anne, who last month celebrated three years in her popular art studio YAA It’s an Art Studio Blarney, is one is of the organisers of the fabulous Cork Toy Run, an annual motorcycle Christmas charity event which has been happening every year for over 20 years. The first event was organised by The Ducks Motorcycle Club and it has happened every year since. Various motorcycle clubs in Cork have taken on the organisation of the event and in 2012 Shamrock Rose MCC, of which Anne is a member, took it on. Last years Cork Toy Run was the biggest motorcycle Christmas charity event in the country with over 600 motorcycles in the the run from Midleton to Cork city centre via the quays. Motorcyclists travel from all over Munster to attend the event, many dressed as Santa,

News from Times Past with Brian Gabriel, Blarney & District Historical Society

Fête at St. Ann’s Blarney 1870 It still is important to many of our readers to describe briefly the architecture and arrangements of this large and prosperous establishment. It occupies the summit of a hill overlooking the valley of the Shourna, facing Blarney Castle and its historic groves. The pile consists of a main building, surrounded by ornamental detached villas, the grounds being tastefully laid out with walks, terraces, flower-gardens and conservatories. The whole, including the Baths, form a group of unique beauty, replete with every convenience and luxury, which has been created by Dr. Barter solely for the special purposes to which it has been devoted, and for which it has become so long and justly celebrated. The divisional walls of the sudatorium or hotroom are carried out in Cork stone piers and styles, panelled in red Cork marble. The capping of the top rails is finished in polished Sicilian marble. The floors throughout the entire building are laid in Cork red marble which has a beautiful effect. On the gentlemen’s side the wall dividing the hot-room from the cooling room is broken by a circular-headed archway, twelve feet high and six feet broad, occupied by a single sheet of plate glass, through which from either side a beautiful view is presented of the cooling room from the one side and the hot-rooms from the other. These noble rooms are decorated in the highest style of architectural and ornamental art, and with the most consummate taste. Much use has been made of mirrored and stained glass, which, combined with the charming colours displayed by the tapestry and other decorations, give an Oriental and magnificent effect. In the centre of the beautiful cooling-room above as described, a marble fountain plays into a passage of large dimensions. The exquisite harmony of the colouring in this room requires to be seen to be appreciated, and, in fact, each portion of the building becomes a study in itself. The ladies end of the building is carried out in the same harmony and finish, but here more privacy has been obtained without injury to the general effect. A special arrangement is provided in the hot–rooms, which are lit from the ceiling by a novel and effective plan, the chief features of which are the maintenance of the purity of the internal atmosphere, the products of combustion of the gaslight passing directly into the external air, being separated from the hotrooms by oblong circular-headed stained glass panels, the light from which produces a most pleasing effect. The architectural beauty of this stately structure is due to the talents of Mr. Richard Barter, on whom it reflects the highest credit. The arrangements made for the accommodation of the company yesterday were worthy of the place and its spirited proprietor. In addition to the magnificent suite of apartments thrown open for the occasion, an immense and taste-fully decorated marquee had been erected on the esplanade. Guests began to arrive at an early hour, and when the fête was at its fullest there could not have been less than seven hundred ladies and gentlemen on the ground. The coup d’evil at this time was of a character perfectly charming and in some respects unique. It is only in some “Eastern province of the Sun” or in some forward region of that land, from which the title of the establishment has been drawn that portions of the picture might be looked for. In a few words our readers must fancy for themselves a landscape worthy of the loveliest clime – mellow depths of woodland enfolding reaches of emerald sward, all sheen and shadow beneath the soft glamour of an Irish summer sky. Centred in this fitting frame work let him picture the gleaming pinnacles and picturesque Oriental outlines of a building, which might be Aladdin’s lost palace dropped on a Munster hillock, the harem of the good Caliph Haroun, stolen (with the Monarch’s daughter in it) by the magician Nouvezin, and transplanted to a country where abduction was at one time a popular recommendation – or, to be at once modern and matter-of-fact, the Serai of some wealthy pasha in the Valley of Sweet Waters. Only that the Sunday’s Well of the Turkish capital can boast of no accessories such as those which heightened the grace of yesterday’s festival. Scattered in laughing groups on the greensward or promenading on the terrace and shaded woodland ways, the company wiled the time to the music of the band of the 63rd Regiment, which, with the Rhine String Band, was in attendance, till, assembled at a signal, the gay throng congregated at the marquee, where Dr. Barter delivered the following address: Dr. Barter then said- Ladies and Gentlemen, we are this day, to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the introduction of the Bath into Western Europe since the time of the Romans, by the opening of the Bath just completed. But, as the Romans never visited Ireland, we celebrate the first Bath of this kind ever built upon Irish soil, and further the first Bath in the world’s history built for the purpose a special curative agent. So you see we commemorate several events to be recorded by future historians. I was not long in preserving that the bath had a far wider range of usefulness than that of a mere curative agent, important as that is. I have laboured hard to establish it as a great social institution, and now, every town of importance in Ireland has its hot air bath. Several hundred private mansions possess them. They are also to be found in large factories, lunatic asylums, union workhouses and hospitals. It is worthy of remark that the medical officers attached to those latter institutions have, without exception, reported favourably of the Bath, after long experience of its value as a sanitary and sanitive agent. Indeed, as far as Ireland is concerned, the Bath has assumed the dignified position of a national institution, of which Ireland may feel pretty proud. I have been accused by several of my friends

of want of prudence in extending the bath. They said I should have kept ‘the goose that laid the golden egg’ at home, but, the good of my fellowman was my guiding principle. When the Bath was built I had to undergo an amount of persecution almost beyond human endurance. My fellow labourers in the large field of professional advancement were my chief opponents, and are still, with a few honourable exceptions; but they are fast following the tide of public opinion, which has now fairly turned in my favour. Dr. Golden, physician to St. Thomas’ Hospital, in London, says that “the bath has opened a new era to man healthy and man diseased.” Erasmus Wilson says, “the bath is to man what the sun is to the world and its inhabitants.” Sentiments of similar import now frequently come from medical men, who have given the Bath a fair trial. The class who do not approve as a rule, are those who have no personal experience of the Bath, and they are legion. The Bath has already conferred untold happiness on millions of the present generation, and will millions still unborn. The Bath is a luxury free from vice, and may be daily taken with increasing pleasure and benefit, in health and disease. Its mission is to suffering humanity, its objects are the prolongation of life, the increase of human happiness, and mitigation of human misery. It is based upon science, is supported by theory and is established by experience. It is the only institution in the world’s history that has been handed down unchanged in its leading principles and has always been enjoyed by the Eastern nations and Homer sings its praise. In conclusion, I have to thank you all for coming here. I see many in this large assembly who have come from a distance at great personal inconvenience to testify by their presence here, their approval of my principle, for which, be assured, I feel deeply grateful. I have to thank my friend, Mr. Barter for his untiring zeal, and for the taste displayed in the architectural design and ornamentation of the building; nor must I forget my lady friends, who for the love and gratitude to the Bath, for curing them, have added much to the internal adornment. We will now proceed to open the building. I will lead the way with my daughter and then leave you to other hands, trusting you may enjoy the comforts and pleasures which I have provided for you, as far as it was possible for me to do for so large an assemblage, but without the cup that inebriates, and as that is contrary to my principles, you will have an abundance of Samson’s beverage. (Non-alcoholic drink) At the conclusion of the address, the ceremony of the opening of the New Bath was performed; an interesting feature in the proceedings being the delivery of the following address by Miss Barter. The young lady said: - I now declare this Bath opened, and I hope you will all experience it yourselves, its benefits some time or other. My father has told you how he was led to build the first bath, and how successful it has since proved itself, under God’s blessing. Permit me, for him to say that no thought of self, influenced him in his exertions, his one and only aim being to spread the principle he believes to be so beneficial to his fellow-man. In conclusion, I desire God’s blessing on the building now open. At the conclusion of this address, which was received with universal applause, three hearty cheers were given for Dr. Barter and Miss Barter, and the company were then entertained to a magnificent dejuneur comprising the most excellent delicacies of French cuisine, after which dancing commenced and the company separated at a most reasonable hour, having spent a charming evening. The reporter then named, in alphabetical order, the entire seven hundred people who attended. The above article was printed in the Cork Examiner of 7th July 1870. The next illustrated lecture of the Blarney and District Historical Society is on Thursday 7th January 2016 at 8p.m. in Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál. Mr. Gerry White, of the Cork Branch of the Western Front Association, talks to us about ‘The Unknown Warrior or The Unknown Soldier of Westminster Abbey’. He was an unknown victim of the carnage of the First World War and Gerry asks: ‘Could he have been from Cork?’ We invite you all to hear his opinion. On 12th July 2015 the Blarney and District Historical Society celebrated 30 years in existence and our latest ‘Old Blarney’ Journal, is a special 30th Anniversary Edition of 160 pages. It also marks the 250th Anniversary of what is regarded as the official founding of Blarney Village. It is for sale in the local shops and it makes a perfect gift for both family and friends, especially those living abroad, at Christmas-time which is now fast approaching. Blarney and District Historical Society would like to thank all its members and friends for your support during the past thirty years and would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Pleasant and Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. Donoughmore mother, Amanda Power, was crowned Irish International slimmer of the year in Liverpool last week, whilst up against 16 countries. Amanda is the first female to win and the first Irish International slimmer. Amanda told us, “I set my heart on succeeding for the sake of my kids. For years my weight has always been a battle due to being diagnosed with Graves disease at 13. I had tried various diet solutions to try and get my weight under control, with varying success, and in 2008 I was finally doing it with the help of Cambridge Weight Plan. However disaster struck in May 2009, I needed two operations on my back. The second operation caused serious complications, leaving me at the young age of 21 with a permanent catheter among other medical problems. “I couldn’t cope, so I just ate and ate, it got harder to do any normal activities. Eventually I moved on with life having two children, a little girl in 2012 and my little boy in 2013. I was getting so fed up with life, I couldn’t play with my children, cloths shopping was not the fun it was meant to be, my weight and having to dress to hide my catheter bag, meant I was just left depressed. “On 4th January 2015 my journey with Cambridge Weight Plan began (again). This time however I set my heart on succeeding for the sake of my kids, I didn’t want to be a fat mammy. With the amazing support from my consultant and my family along with seeing the weight fall off each week I had the motivation I needed to keep on track. Now after losing almost 10st I am finally living my dreams. The icing on the cake was having the opportunity to represent Ireland against 16 other countries in the Cambridge Weight Plan international slimmer of the year even and to my amazement I became the first Irish winner as well as the first female winner in the competitions history.” For further information or to contact Amanda please contact Cambridge Weight Plans Irish Representative Tracy on 085 1989849.

Brighter, Whiter Smiles! Our Smile is often the first thing others notice. Whiter, brighter teeth can give us more confidence and make that smile all the more ready to appear. A beautiful smile is now much more readily achieved than ever before. The first stage to obtaining a beautiful smile is to ensure that the teeth and gums are healthy. Visit your dentist regularly for a check up so that any cavities or gum problems can be treated early before they turn into bigger problems. The sooner problems are detected the simpler they are to treat and the less noticeable they will appear. Everybody with PRSI cover and a Medical Card (over 16 years old) is entitled to a free dental check up once a year. There are many causes of tooth discolouration. The most common are smoking, coffee, tea and red wine. An extensive scale and polish can sometimes remove the majority of these stains without any further treatment required. Deeper more extensive discolouration however may require further treatment such as tooth whitening. Tooth Whitening is suitable for most people as long as the teeth and gums are healthy. So called whitening products are available in the supermarkets and Pharmacies, these have been found to have limited affects on discolouration due to the amount of bleaching agent contained. EU directives have limited the strength of whitening agents sold over the counter to less than a tenth of that which can be prescribed by your dentist. The steps involved in tooth whitening are simple. Impressions of your teeth are taken by your dentist from which special custom fitting trays (like thin mouthguards) are made. Whitening gel is then placed in your custom trays which fit snugly over your teeth. The whitening gel breaks down and oxygen ‘dissolves’ the stains inside your teeth. You can wear the trays when you want to, over night or any time during the day. The whitening gel is available in different strengths and your dentist can recommend the best product to suit your teeth and lifestyle. Everybody’s teeth will whiten at different rates but on average excellent results are obtained after about 5-14 days. The results will last indefinitely although can be refreshed when required if restaining occurs (coffee/tea/smoking!) Clinical studies have shown that bleaching using this method is safe for teeth and gums. A minority of people may experience temporary sensitivity to hot and cold. Carolyn Barry Murphy BDS NUI.

Behind the Castle Walls with Adam, Head Gardener Blarney Castle

November or not? November has been an odd month in many ways. Temperatures have been fairly high and grass is still growing. The end of the month saw the first real winter storms and a little damage in the arboretums. Fingers crossed this doesn’t continue. The colours in our arboretums and woodlands have been exceptional this year and there are still many trees holding their leaves. I hope some of you got to see. We have yet to put our tree ferns to bed. Usually by now they are well wrapped up to protect from the elements. Dicksonia antarctica is the common tree fern and is generally hardy in light frosts. The crowns of our tree ferns are protected by first stuffing with straw, which is then wrapped in horticultural fleece. We will be doing this as soon as the first heavy frosts arrive. For anyone who has a couple of specimens in their garden though, my advice would be to bring them indoors in a pot, and not take the risk. Christmas is approaching fast and the hustle and bustle and general madness is definitely upon us. Work in the gardens has become very typical for the season, with emphasis on tidying, cutting back and mulching. We have also started planting bare root trees, including new apple varieties in our orchard which will add to our range of traditional Irish trees. We intend to explore cider making in the new year! A big job for us this time of the year is leaf collection. We compost a lot of our leaf litter, as it’s a free source of extremely good mulch for plants. Let’s face it the natural ways are usually the best! We do not however collect up the leaves from our main Lime tree avenue. These are pushed back under the trees to provide a protective mulch and feed for the snowdrop and bluebell bulbs that live there. December is always a month where we aim to finish up projects etc, but I have learnt to be fairly realistic. Life goes on in January! Other work for the month includes wind lopping roses to prevent wind rock, roughly digging over vegetable beds, tidying up and disinfecting glasshouses, planting or moving bare root trees and shrubs, sorting out compost bins and spreading on the surface of vegetable beds, tree surgery and general housekeeping. I was lucky enough to spend the first half of November in Vietnam, studying native plants as part of a 4 person expedition. It was wonderful and hugely informative and this has provided great inspiration for future projects here in the gardens. We have had a great year here in the gardens and I feel that things have progressed very well. The new Seven Sisters development has proved very popular and I can’t wait to see how the newly planted grass beds mature. It’s very exciting to be part of this historic site. We have a progressive and energetic team here and I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the grounds and gardens. It really is a wonderful place to be! All of us here would like to wish everybody a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year. We hope to see more of you in the gardens next year. Do make use of the season passes, as they represent excellent value for money. I look forward to seeing you in the gardens in 2016. Adam

Dara’s Diary In addition to my duties in Brussels & Dublin in my capacity as Minister for European Affairs and Data Protection, I’m always glad of an excuse to attend local events, and to bring events to the area - as my home and heart lie in Cork North Central. Paris Terror Attacks. As European Minister, it was of course a very difficult month following on from the horrific events in Paris. In Cork City Hall I attended a very poignant ceremony on Saturday 21st November organised by the Honorary French Consul, Patricia Mallon. The event was attended by a large number of the French community who live and work here in Cork. The event emphasised the very strong links there are between Ireland and France and highlighted the shared ambition we all have to support and protect democracy, liberty and freedom of expression. Most importantly, this Ceremony was also an opportunity to sympathise with the people of France at this very difficult time and to stand in solidarity with them. Vive la belle France. Great news for Carrignavar and Blarney with green light for schools under major building programme. This month the Government announced a new Capital Building Programme for Schools. With the recovery of our economic fortunes, a significant number of schools around the Country can now be planned. I was particularly delighted that two schools in Blarney, Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Scoil Chroí Íosa got the green light. Also included in this project is indeed Scoil An Athar Tadhg in Carrignavar, There is no better investment that any Government can make, than in our young people. We have an excellent and highly skilled teaching workforce in our Country and these new schools will provide the 21st-century facilities that the young people in both Blarney and the Carrignavar region deserve. It is a particular credit to the Boards of Management and the Parents Associations and indeed the Principals and teaching staff that they have managed to bring these projects to a point where Government can support them and deliver the facilities that are so important for our excellent young people.

Wishing all our customers and friends a very happy Christmas

Blarney Hurling & Football GAA Club:It was a great pleasure to meet some of the very active members of Blarney GAA Club on a Saturday morning recently. I had met some of the officers in advance of their excellent sports application and was delighted that the club secured a grant for €110,000. The members and officers of the club gave me a good outline of when they expect construction to start and by this time next year it is hoped that the project will be completed. This is a very worthwhile project that will be of huge benefit to the very large number of boys, girls, men and women who are active members of one of Cork’s finest GAA clubs. I wish them every success. Activity Days Tourism Business Launch. I was delighted to receive an invitation to attend the launch of a new Tourism Business for Blarney called “Activity Days”. The launch took place at the Blarney Tourist Office and was attended by a large number of people. It is the type of business which is of particular importance to a wonderful tourist destination like Blarney. We learned at the launch, that there are a very large and growing number of tourists who want to come to our Country and to our County to experience activity based holidays. I wish Máire Ní Mhurchú and her team the very best of success. It was particularly interesting & welcome to see the great focus she has on employing local guides with local knowledge to give the fullest possible local activity based holiday experience for these tourists - many of whom, of course, return year after year.

Meet giant continental rabbits Jennifer and Percy, Monty their 14 foot albino Burmese Python, browse at their snakes, lizards, geckos and iguanas in the reptile section, or lose your heart to the cute chipmunks and chinchillas. Upcoming celebration? Why not book a pet party?

Coleman Player Of The Year. Big congratulations to Mark Coleman who received the Paddy Cremin “Adult Player Of The Year Perpetual Trophy” at this years AGM. Mark put in some great performances playing his first full year with our Intermediate team this year while also representing Cork at minor level. Well done Mark! Blarney GAA helped the big man himself get ready for his arrival to Magical Blarney in Blarney Woollen Mills recently. Minister Visit. Minister of State Dara Murphy recently called to our club grounds to view our plans for the Astro Turf facility. The Minister spoke about the great work our club volunteers do and the role the GAA play in our community. He also saw the importance of the facility to the future development of our club and community. Thank You. On behalf of the club, outgoing vice chairman Michael O'Shea, presented our current Club President Michael O'Leary with the hurlers prayer recently. It was a small gesture to show the club's appreciation for the president’s active involvement in the club this year and for the many years volunteering before becoming president at last year’s AGM. AGM Results Thanks to all who attended our AGM on Sunday 22nd November last. The following officers were elected for 2016 with the outstanding positions to be filled in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Kevin on (087) 245 1111. We would be delighted to hear from you. 2016 Club Officers Club President: Michael O'Leary Club Chairman: Kevin Kelleher Vice Chairman: Secretary: Shane Jordan Assistant Secretary: Stephen O'Brien Treasurer: Sean Mac Donnchadha Registrar: Pat Harrington PRO: Donal O'Leary Oifigeach na Gaeilge: Child Welfare Officer: John Quirke Health & Wellbeing: Dónal Ahern Memorial 5km Run/Walk. Well done to all who took part in the Dónal Ahern Memorial 5km Run/Walk that took place on the 28th of November last in aid of Build4Life/Cystic Fibrosis (CF). It was another great success with a good turnout in the mixed weather conditions. Dónal was a very active member of our club before he lost his fight with CF. It was great to see club members and the wider community supporting this great cause. Huge thanks to the volunteers who assisted on the day and to all of those who made sandwiches & cakes.

Shane Jordan pictured with Kevin Kelleher (Club Chairman), Ray Murphy, Peter Philpott and Stephen Blake BFS.

that was known then as “The Plots” (this was because the field had in previous years been divided into small plots of ground and leased out for the growing of vegetables). We of course now know it as Monacnappa. The green field site at “The Plots” had a steep gradient at the time. In order for roadway’s and level sites to be laid out, a great amount of soil had to be excavated and disposed of. The Club negotiated with the contractor, outlining they had a very suitable close location for all of the excess soil. The agreement made was that the soil would be transported from Monacnappa to the GAA grounds and would then be graded to form a suitable spectator viewing area all round the pitch. The officers of the club had the vision to realise that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity not to be missed and it was all done at no expense to the club. So anybody from Monacnappa watching a match from the bank, you really are on home soil.

Shane Jordan - What the club means to me "For as long as I can remember, Blarney GAA has been a major part of my life. The earliest memories I have are of indoor hurling with St. John Cremen and Michael Horgan in the secondary school in Blarney on Friday nights. Coupled with this are the vague memories of the 1999 Intermediate final. Some of my fondest memories with Blarney GAA come with the Parish leagues. This is where hurling really started. All week in school in the old boy’s schools, all we could talk about was the Parish Leagues. It is also here where I have some of my best memories with the biggest influence of my career, and I’m sure my brothers would say the same, my grandfather, Joe Bradley. He never missed a night of the Parish Leagues. He may have shouted the wrong names (one time even calling Joe my sister Kate) at us when trying to encourage us on the pitch but we got the message loud and clear. I can still remember my brother Joe buying me my first hurley in New Ross, Wexford where my father is from. What you may not know, however, is that my first love is football. Unfortunately, at underage level the football was quite the opposite of the hurling, where in this case it was quite seldom we won. Over the last number of years Blarney has seen a rise in football both at underage and adult level. A major influence on this has been that of Colm O’Connor. For me personally, Tom Hallahan and Terrance Ryan must be acknowledged when it comes to the efforts they put into minor and U21 football throughout my time at these grades. Over the last number of years playing with the Junior Bs has been a pleasure. It was the first time we really got involved with the legends of the club such as Colm Sheehan, Niall Hayes, Cormac O’ Keeffe and co. Much praise has to be given to Frankie Downey, Donal O’Donovan and Denis O’Donovan who have been the main driving forces of the Junior B team, not just since I have been playing but for long before my time. “Back in August, I took up the role of Secretary in the club. It has only been over the last number of months which I have really began to understand the work that goes on behind the scenes. From hosting championship matches to hosting car boot sales, the work that goes on within the club which may not be seen is phenomenal. Blarney GAA really is the heart beat of the village and whenever the club is doing well you can feel the buzz all over the village. We are extremely lucky in Blarney to have such a close knit village, which transpires out onto the pitch. From Mairead Sheehan and Dan Dilworth with Club Beag and Club na nOg, to Michael O’ Mahony with the Intermediate team, the running of the club, on and off the field is in tremendous hands. Blarney GAA has been a major part of my life, even giving me a nickname which is now likely to stick for life, for as long as I can remember and I don’t see that coming to an end any time soon"

Happy Christmas. From everyone at Blarney GAA Club, we would like to wish you and your family a very happy and safe Christmas. Thank you for all your support during 2015.

Know Your Club Question: When was the spectator embankment at pitch 1 developed and where did it come from? Answer: When the grounds for the pitch were acquired in the 1950’s, the entire field was completely flat. The grounds remained in this condition with no spectator facilities at all during the 1960’s. In 1970 a new development of residential houses was underway in an area
