Next on the horizon is the grand opening of our newest venture, the Members Club. This exclusive locale will provide our most dedicated supporters—our members and sponsors—a place to network, mingle, and relish in first-class concession services prior to shows (and throughout the week!). This coming year will also mark our second annual Emerging Artist Benefit Concert, featuring a world-renowned performing artist—we can’t wait to reveal who will take the stage this year! This fundraiser allows us to fulfill our mission of presenting aspiring artists early in their careers, while keeping those ticket prices accessible. Our focus for this season is the ongoing modernization and preservation of our beloved Historic Theater as part of our strategic planning work. We are diligently responding to your feedback, making plans for tangible improvements (namely, the seats you are sitting in right now!) to elevate your overall experience. First and foremost, allow me to express my heartfelt gratitude. Gratitude for the folks surrounding this organization, the support The Music Hall receives from all of you, and the programming we enjoy so much. The Music Hall is a gift for all of us. It developed over time and through the effort of countless people who valued the arts and all its benefits in the Seacoast. The Music Hall is a special place that brings us together, inspires us, excites us, and soothes our souls. Sharing events in-person builds our community and binds our humanity; thank you for being here.

I want to take advantage of this opportunity to ask a favor, not for me but for your family and friends, and in turn for you. Please invite your closest circle here to The Music Hall and The Lounge to share in this gift. Many, many of you do this now and it is deeply appreciated but let’s renew our efforts for their sake and our own. Is there a better gift? The Music Hall has more programming coming in the months ahead than at any time during its existence. More music, comedy, authors, films, and talks and forums than ever before. Your circle will enjoy these events and have the memories for years to come. The Music Hall and the arts at large, serve as a substantial economic catalyst for the greater Seacoast region. According to the Arts and Economic Prosperity® 5 study done back in 2015, “The nonprofit arts and culture sector is a $58 million industry in the Greater Portsmouth Area—one that supports 1,825 full-time equivalent jobs and generates $9.5 million in local and state government revenue.” Keep in mind this was way back in 2015. This past year, we participated in the latest study and we can’t wait to share the updated numbers with you this winter. Even if we don’t attend a performance on a given evening, we know that Portsmouth thrives as a vibrant and fun destination. We also appreciate that it is largely driven by the artistic events taking place across town, drawing thousands to us here. So, do the Seacoast this favor and bring your family and friends to The Music Hall, The Lounge, or any of the other wonderful venues in the city to enjoy some art, in all its forms. Cheers,

TICKET FEES The fees you pay when you purchase tickets cover the expenses associated with offering in-person and user-friendly online box office services. While labor and technology costs continue to rise, we work hard to manage our nonprofit business to keep ticket fees as low as possible and ensure that they are considerably less than or on par with other venues.

EXCHANGES & REFUNDS Can’t make a performance? Music Hall members at any level may return their tickets to the Box Office up to 48 hours before the event for the value of the tickets to be put on a Music Hall gift card. Patrons may also donate the value of their tickets to The Music Hall at any time, and donations are tax-deductible. The Music Hall reserves the right to update the exchange policy; please inquire at the Box Office or visit our website. PARKING The Music Hall’s downtown campus does not include designated parking. The Foundry Place Garage (100 Foundry Place) is about a 5-minute walk from The Historic Theater, and the Hanover Parking Garage (2 Hanover Street) and Worth Parking Lot (25 Maplewood Avenue) are also within walking distance. We encourage all guests to visit ParkPortsmouth.com for the latest updates and parking options.

GENERAL POLICIES Trained service animals only are welcome at Music Hall events. No weapons or outside food and drink permitted in our buildings. Music Hall management reserves the right to refuse service.

GROUP SALES Families, friends, and organizations of 10 or more can receive discounts on tickets, including 15% off for our holiday productions with the Ogunquit Playhouse. We also offer pre-show gathering spaces and other amenities as available. Please email GroupSales@themusichall.org for more information about group sales for any event.

ACCESSIBILITY • The Historic Theater has a staffed elevator providing access to the orchestra level and concessions lobby. Stairs lead to the balcony from the orchestra level. Accessible restrooms are in the lower lobby. The Lounge has an elevator that leads to accessible restrooms and the exit on the lower level. • To assist with seat comfort and visibility, booster cushions for children and seat and back cushions for adults are available at the Box Office • Assistive Listening Devices may be checked out from the Box Office. • Wheelchair seating is available to patrons with disabilities and their guests. Our staff makes every effort to assist and accommodate all patrons. • If you have questions about accessibility in either of our venues, please contact the B2W Box Office, and our staff will do everything we can to accommodate you.

TIDBITS OF BITE-SIZED HISTORY “The English settlers who started what is now Portsmouth, NH in 1630 brought along plenty of musical instruments, but only one Bible.” —J. Dennis Robinson, Music Hall: How a City Built a Theater and a Theater Shaped a City • Big enough to fit an elephant, the red loading dock doors had Buffalo Bill's horseback riding routine charge through in the late 1800s. • Barry Fritz, who was a projectionist in the 1950s, installed what has come to be known as the “Trashcandelier.” This was, in a feat of thriftiness, a metal trashcan lid with six flood lights stuck through it. It hung above audiences for over 65 years until it was replaced with a new chandelier from The Lighting Center at Rockingham Electric in 2013. The Trashcandelier is still working; suspended backstage above the stage doors, it greets performers at every show. • The Music Hall’s Historic Theater was designated “An American Treasure” by the Department of the Interior in 2004. PRESERVING AN AMERICAN TREASURE MODERNIZING A HISTORIC THEATER TO WITHSTAND THE TEST OF TIME

Through patron surveys and strategic planning efforts, your feedback has been astounding. While we are quite biased, our patrons share the same dedication to preserving the historic integrity of the Hall, from the plush seats to the gilding around the stunning chandelier.

OUR STORIED PAST We live in an area rich with history, and our Historic Theater has an abundance of stories to tell. Built in 1878 by shipwrights, we are one of the last remaining “hemp houses” in the country, still using the original rigging system from 1901 that depends on rope, block and tackle, and counterweight to make theatrical magic happen. Our acoustically rich space has inspired artists like The Indigo Girls and Brandi Carlisle in their own work. As proud as we are of our historic roots, modern amenities are necessary to keep up with the times. To combat environmental changes, we’ve eliminated 22,500 single-use plastic bottles a year, converted to compostable cups and Bluedrop Water’s fountain system, and incorporated energy-efficient lights and windows. From our restoration and renovation that included our award-winning restrooms and the lower lobby, to our new HVAC system and the backstage green room and dressing rooms, we aspire to provide comfort to artists and patrons alike.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE We strive to ensure that The Music Hall is here for future generations. There is always more to do—from the roof to the brick walls, there are continuous maintenance expenses and improvements to make. We want everyone in our community, both today and in the future, to be able to comfortably enjoy our performances. Because of you, our members and donors, we will be able to maintain this historic gem, honoring the past while offering entertainment, education, and inspiration today.
