I no longer need to work for a living, as today I became very, very wealthy. This morning I received three e-mails to inform me that: 1. I would be receiving 7.3 million US Dollars inheritance via courier. 2. I had won 1 million British Pounds in the BBC Lotto Draw. 3. I had won 150 000 US Dollars from Nokia in a random computer ballot draw. I doubt that anyone, not even Richard Branson, earns that much in a day! The terrifying reality is that there are SOME people (yes, you know that I know who you are...), who are very tempted to actually click on the attachments that these skelms send you via e-mail, and some of you actually DO open the attachments and/or reply! If you're feeling tempted to react to these e-mails, please consider the following: 1. It is unlikely that someone you have never met, and who lives abroad, is going to die and leave you millions of Dollars. 2. You cannot win a lotto draw if you have not bought a ticket. 3. It is improbable that Nokia would be sending you a lot of money from a random draw you did not enter. So what to do when your mouse is itching to hit the REPLY button...? Just click DELETE and don't bother telling them where you'd like them to go... or visit www.snopes.com for thousands of scary stories and info on hoax e-mails and scams which will send you scrambling for the good ol' days of posting letters. It was a relaxed and chilled affair until one out-ofcontrol three year old arrived. This child was so bad you could "hear" each parent's inner dialogue regarding how they would address the unacceptable behaviour. She would hit the other children, grab toys, shout and on the whole was a real little brat. I recently came across an ingenious product called The Spot that would be very helpful in situations like these. The Spot is a non-slip machine-washable portable time-out mat. What I love about this product is that it can travel around in my handbag until required. Cooper, my little boy, must know when the bright red circle is placed down either at home, out at a friend's house, a restaurant or on holiday, I mean business. The Spot comes in three different colours and costs R120 each. To place your order contact 072 993 0754. Star in Your Own Book: When I was young my folks gave me a book called "The Mystery of Scented Mountain" and the main character's name was Jane Robyn Linley - yip, me! I was totally bowled over that this book had me as the star and mentioned my best friends' names, my school, my parents and my pet's name. It was almost too much to take in. I still have the book and although the stickers are faded, just looking at it brings all the memories back. I so wanted to make Cooper the star in his own adventure book and LizaJane made that happen. This Christmas Cooper and his dad star in their own version of "My Fishing AdvenVisit us at www.mumsmail.com 14 ture". Mike loves fishing and we often talk about our one-day Midlands get away with Coop and dad casting off and mom on the banks with a G `n T. "My Fishing Adventure" is set in the Midlands and makes mention of his cousin India, his ginger cat Fanta, as well as one of his best friends, Samke. Go and check out Liza-Jane's website (www.liza-jane.com) and create your own book for your little one. The books are very reasonably priced at R160 including postage. Contact Liza-Jane, 083 311 9033, firstname.lastname@example.org. Funny Dummy: It is no surprise why people fall about when they see this dummy! Epic, ha! Cooper must be really confused as to why he continually has hoards of hysterical people gathered around him snapping pix with their cell phones. He also has a dummy with a full set of teeth on it, too funny. Also don't you love his Tshirt!? I reckon Debs Harry would be stoked. It was sent along with a few others from one of my oldest school mates, Teri who lives in the UK. I find it really hard to find cool kids' ( especially boys') clothes - "Black Sheep" do have cute bibs and burp cloths for smaller babes. "Lady and The Punk" in Gateway has some cool "Six Bunnies" kids' clothes too. Coop has a grey hoody from there complete with "I Love Mom and Dad" tattoo-type print all over it which I love. To view the full range of these funny dummies contact Paul on email@example.com or call 083 212 1714. Source: Jane LinleyThomas, Radio Presenter and Voice Over Artist, 082 538 5511. Festive Celebrations 15 To advertise call 031 - 573 1731 Festive Celebrations UVA and UVB Protection Many people are aware of the risks associated with UVB exposure but few are aware of the real risks associated with UVA exposure. UVA rays are considered to be the main cause of pigmentation, premature ageing and skin cancer and can also penetrate the skin much deeper than UVB rays. Unlike UVB, UVA rays have the ability to pass through clouds, glass and water. Applying a suitable, high protection UVA sunscreen each day can lead to the avoidance of unprotected exposure, helping to minimise the risk of developing skin cancer. Exfoliac Matifying Suncare Fluid not only has a 50+ UVB protection factor, it also contains a UVA protection factor of 42.2 which is higher than regular sun care products. This scientifically formulated, high-protection sun care fluid also provides matifying action for a non-greasy effect, which is of benefit to individuals with oily skin and yet also highly suitable for combination and normal skins. Ask yourself the following questions: Does your sunscreen leave your skin feeling and looking non-greasy? Do you know what UVA protection factor your regular sunscreen has? If the answer is no to either question, then use Exfoliac Matifying Suncare Fluid with SPF 50+ and UVA protection factor 42.2 and guarantee your UVA and UVB protection. Think of all the food consumed and wasted, all the presents brought and wrapping thrown away, and all the miles travelled to visit relatives. With a few more conscious decisions we can still have just as much fun and lighten the load on the planet too. Here are some reasons why a real Christmas tree is better for the environment than a fake one: Real trees are grown here, fake ones are shipped in from China. Most artificial trees are made from metals and plastics and are not biodegradable. The best option in South Africa is to buy an indigenous tree in a pot, and plant it in your garden after Christmas. Another idea is to use a dried branch and to decorate it. Christmas Cards: You don't have to sacrifice the celebration of Christmas to make it sustainable. Send Christmas e-cards from: World Land Trust, Friends of the Earth, care2.com. Or buy charity and locally made Christmas cards instead of imported ones. Make your own recycled cards with your children. Green Gift Ideas: Once you start looking it isn't difficult to find great local gift ideas. Making local markets your main source of gifts is really a lot of fun, e.g. Woza Moya, Hillcrest Aids Centre, 031 - 765 5866.
