Sobre un solar ubicado en el centro de una manzana de tipología constructiva adosada, recibimos el encargo de construir una vivienda. La parcela se localiza en el ámbito sur de Ciudad Real, en el último anillo de crecimiento de la ciudad que no se ha desarrollado desde la crisis económica de los años más recientes. Nuestra propuesta es la primera que emerge en este entorno, desde un escaso contexto urbano y ausente de otras viviendas circundantes, referencias tipológicas o legado arquitectónico que pudiese servirnos como aliado en la reflexión de la vivienda.

On an urban context, in the center of a rowhouse type block, we were commissioned to build a single house. The plot is located in the southern area of Ciudad Real, in the last growth ring of the city that has not been developed due to the economic crisis of recent years. Our proposal is the first to emerge in this area, from a void without urban context and absent from other surrounding houses, typological references and architectural legacy that could serve at some point as an architectural tool in the design of the house.

El proyecto nace desde la necesidad de ejecutar una serie de columbarios en la ampliación del Cementerio de Robregordo, en la Sierra de Madrid, finalizado unos años antes.

The project located in Robregordo´s cemetery, in Madrid´s mountain range, satisfies the need of the cemetery enlargement.

El acceso, desde la nueva ampliación, no presenta ningún ámbito a cubierto en el que poder realizar la espera de duelo a la llegada de los restos mortales; una puerta a modo de cancela, un muro perimetral de sillares de granito irregulares que separa el interior del exterior y dos cipreses colocados de manera simétrica son los tres elementos preexistentes.

The access to the cemetery, since its last intervention, does not have any cover place to wait for the arrival of the coffin and the ashes. The preexisting access consists in three main elements: the gate of entrance, the perimetral wall made of irregular granite blocks as a limit between outside and inside, and two cypresses symmetrically placed in the entrance to the cemetery.

Con la propuesta, además de responder a la necesidad de ubicar veintiún columbarios, se ofrece una zona a cubierto que marca el acceso y un lugar de espera, a modo de refugio en caso de lluvia, nieve o sol excesivo.

The aim of this proposal is not only to enlarge the cemetery with a strict budget by placing twentyone new columbaria, but also to offer a covered entrance for the users to give them refuge against the inclemency of the weather.

El proyecto se encuentra en Buitrago del Lozoya, un pequeño municipio al norte de la Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid, situado en el Valle Medio del Lozoya, a los pies del puerto de Somosierra, en plena sierra de Guadarrama. Es el único pueblo de toda la comunidad que conserva íntegro su antiguo recinto amurallado, de origen árabe del siglo XI y restaurado en el siglo XV. El río Lozoya, que da sobrenombre al municipio, lo circunda por todos sus lados menos por el meridional, conviertiéndose en un foso natural de defensa. Buitrago de Lozoya cuenta con otros iconos arquitectónicos como el castillo goticomudéjar de los Mendoza , que data del siglo XV y la iglesia de Santa María del Castillo, realizada en 1321 en el mismo estilo. Además del patrimonio histórico Buitrago cuenta con una de las mayores referencias artísticas de nuestro tiempo como es contar con el privilegio del Museo de Picasso. El Museo Picasso de Buitrago contiene la colección Arias, donde se conserva una peculiar colección fraguada a través de una larga amistad de 26 años de dos españoles exiliados: el artista Pablo Ruiz Picasso y su barbero procedente de Buitrago, Eugenio Arias.

The lighting project is located in Buitrago de Lozoya, a small town of the autonomous community of Madrid in central Spain. It is closed to north mountain range and it lies on a peninsula surrounded by the Lozoya river. The town is one of the few in the community that have maintained its walls, which are of Moorish origin (11th Century) and have been restored in the 15th century. Between its iconic monuments, Buitrago de Lozoya has kept as well the Buitrago del Lozoya Castle, a Gothic-Mudejar structure dating from the 15th century and the church of Santa Maria del Castillo which was built in 1321 in the same style. Last, but not least the town includes also the Picasso Museum. This small museum contains works by Pablo Picasso from the collection of Eugenio Arias, a citizen of Buitrago de Lozoya who was barber by profession and friend of the artist. The aim of the project was to provide the strategic and historical spaces of Buitrago del Lozoya not only functional but also decorative lighting. Especially the wall, church Santa Maria del Castillo, and the Castle.

Una fachada de Iglesia orientada al norte y, por delante de ella, una doble crujía de aulas que pertenece a la escuela que da nombre al espacio sacro y que oculta la nave. El Colegio Hermano Gárate, localizado en el centro de Ciudad Real, presenta un volumen edificado y compacto de grandes dimensiones en una de las manzanas que vuelcan su fachada principal a la Plaza del Pilar. El carácter unitario de su cerramiento actual, un revestimiento cerámico de tonalidades cambiantes, hace imperceptible la presencia de una Iglesia. Los huecos existentes en la fachada recuerdan la escala doméstica del uso docente tras ellos. Únicamente la cruz ubicada en el porche de acceso se muestra como un símbolo literal –y necesario- que funciona como reclamo visual. El edificio residencial, colindante en el lado contrario, presenta una altura desproporcionada a la escala de la Plaza, creando un escalón urbano entre una pieza y otra.

A church facade facing north and a double bay classrooms belonging to the school that names the sacred space and hides the main hall (Colegio Hermano Gárate) are located in the center of Ciudad Real. It is a compact building in a large block that faces its main facade to the Plaza del Pilar. The unitary nature of its current enclosure, a ceramic coating that changes hues, makes the Church invisible. Existing openings in the façade, reminiscent of the teaching scale domestic use, are located. Only the cross in the entrance porch is displayed as a literal and necessary symbol to remind the religious activity inside -that functions as visual element too-. The residential building, adjacent on the opposite side, has a disproportionate urban presence to the scale of the Plaza, creating gaps between one volume and another.

A la vista del cerramiento semi-derruido del Cementerio de Lozoya, el Ayuntamiento encarga el proyecto de adecuación del acceso y ampliación en el frente principal además de un nuevo columbario que aumente la capacidad del recinto. El presupuesto es muy escaso, cerca de treinta mil euros.

Due to the condition of the semi-ruined perimeter wall of Lozoya’s Cemetery, the Council commissioned a design project to adapt and enlarge the access at the front besides a new columbarium that will increase its capacity. The budget for the whole intervention is very tight, only about thirty thousand euros.

El muro existente es un cerramiento de adobe, masivo y sin trabar, que presenta grandes deformaciones y con peligro de colapso. Por tanto, es necesario demoler el muro y al mismo tiempo adelantar la línea del cerramiento hasta llegar al límite de la parcela actual. Además, este muro masivo impide la conexión visual del embalse de Pinilla desde el camino y propicia un campo santo aislado de su contexto vegetal más próximo.

The existing wall is massive, made of lime and stone. It has large deformations and cracks that may have risk to collapse. Therefore, it is necessary to demolish the wall and at the same time, increase the enclosure limits to the end of the municipality´s plot. Furthermore, this massive wall does not allow direct views to Pinilla Reservoir from the road. This position encourages an isolated cemetery from its nearest natural context.

Si bien el acceso al cementerio se produce desde una de las direcciones del camino que coincide con una de las salidas del municipio, la entrada actual está ubicada en una posición perpendicular, lo que impide a los vehículos realizar el giro necesario para acceder al recinto.

While access to the cemetery is produced by only one of the directions of the road, the one that comes from the town, the current entrance is designed frontally without letting vehicles to make the necessary turn to work inside.

La propuesta potencia la interacción con el paisaje, subrayando la identidad del lugar. A pesar de la condición expresa del concurso por establecer una conexión directa con la trama urbana existente, se opta por ofrecer la continuidad del paisaje en la ciudad como actuación destacada que cosa la intervención. Se pretende conservar, por tanto, la identidad de Romainmôtier, cuyas nuevas condiciones de escala permutaría el contexto urbano existente. Sin embargo, la yuxtaposición de la nueva trama y la establecida, ofrece espacios de interacción que atraerá nuevos residentes junto con formas híbridas de relación social, habitar y trabajar.

The proposal generates new relations to the landscape, considered the most relevant character in the surroundings, instead of creating predictable links to the existing urban development. Thus will preserve the identity of the town, besides adding a layer of new ways of living and working around consolidated areas that will attract new dwellers. Both urban patterns will establish a fresh dialogue by juxtaposition. The structure solves three different categories related to VERSALITY (the organization of cores established a new morphology of expressive space), capacity of ALTERATION of surroundings (re-ordering; re-solutions; re-use) and ADAPTATION to all type of users through the develop of furnishing modules.

La estructura afronta tres aspectos ligados a la manera de habitar; VERSATILIDAD (la organización de los núcleos establece una nueva morfología expresiva del lugar), capacidad de INTERVENCIÓN en las áreas más próximas (reordenación, reutilización, resolución) y ADAPTACIÓN a un amplio perfil de usuarios a través del desarrollo de una serie de mobiliario. Los núcleos principales (o terraza-estructura), además de poseer una función estructural, contienen instalaciones, escalera y el mobiliario equipado, liberando así la máxima superficie útil de la vivienda. Además, la composición entre diferentes partes del programa proporciona una composición jerarquizada del uso de la vivienda sin perder la capacidad de modificación a lo largo del tiempo.

Main cores contain installations, structure, stairs and built-in furniture in order to liberate the maximum area for the needs of users. Besides, there are different units that offer freedom in the composition of the apartment program, being able to be modified through time. Due to the range of different units used for each case, the flexibility of their combinations makes possible the transformation of any space to hold complementary activities. The user will customize the ambient of each dwelling, opening and closing different light and isolation panels in façade. The proposal gives users the opportunity to decide whether to have open spaces or separated areas.

El proyecto se presenta como un objeto más en el lugar y enfatiza los elementos naturales existentes. Se levanta únicamente una planta para que adquiera un carácter extensivo adecuándose a la vegetación y curvas de nivel de la parcela, ofreciendo unas cualidades volumétricas y espaciales diferentes. Su posición en esquina enfatiza su mayor presencia urbana hacia el viario público. Contra el volumen compacto, la casa se extiende por la parcela para separarse de los linderos y permitir así la presencia de vegetación en toda la casa. Evita ver y ser vistos desde los laterales de las viviendas colindantes para mirar a la Sierra de Madrid. La clara direccionalidad de la pieza permite que se adose y entierre parcialmente la casa en el terreno desde la fachada trasera, aprovechando el muro de 1,7o metros levantado para contener las tierras en la pista de tenis.

The project is presented as another object in the place but emphasizing the natural elements that surround the new house. The construction is only one level high, only for an extensive organization that could adapt to the existing vegetation and contours of the land in order to offer different volumetric and spatial qualities. Its position –on a corner- emphasizes its urban presence towards the public street. Against compact volume, the house extends to keep away from the plot boundaries and allow the presence of vegetation throughout the whole house. Avoid seeing and being seen from the houses nearby, the house is facing to the Sierra de Madrid mountains. The clear directionality of the piece allows the house to be related to the ground and partially buried into the ground from the back façade taking advantage of the existing wall of 1.7o meters high.

El proyecto se sitúa en la localidad de Robregordo, entre las dos vías más relevantes del municipio, la calle Real y la calle Balagares. El objetivo principal es realizar una cuidadosa intervención siguiendo las pautas de ocupación tradicionales del municipio, así como el control del proceso de completamiento y remate de la nueva edificación en el límite entre el núcleo tradicional y las nuevas edificaciones, armonizándose con las características morfológicas y tipológicas de su entorno. La intervención recoge la consolidación del carácter arquitectónico tradicional y la aportación de nuevas tecnologías que, por una parte, ofrecerán un confort adecuado al uso de las viviendas; y por otra, consolidarán y potenciarán la tipología tradicional de la vivienda. Se plantea el primer cuerpo de la construcción, o zócalo pétreo, ocupando todo el perímetro de la parcela. Compacta las manzanas que aún quedan libres. La piedra y la cerca son dos elementos que toman especial protagonismo en su relación con el municipio, estableciendo recintos semi-privados, a modo de patios o huertas, que pertenecen a distintas unidades vecinales. De esta forma, se sigue con la estructura heterogénea de patios y huertos típica de estos municipios desarrollado durante las últimas décadas.

The project is located in Robregordo, one hundred kilometers away from Madrid to the North. The site is surrounded by the two main streets, Calle Real and Calle Balagares. The main purpose is to make an intervention than respects the local context and continues the traditional ways of housing occupation. Besides, the key position of the site between the traditional urban core and the new extension creates an in-between urban pattern that may study this situation in order to harmonize both morphological and typological environments. The intervention aims to capture the consolidation of the traditional architectural character without forgetting the contribution of new technologies. On this argument, we try to provide adequate comfort to the user without losing the traditional style of living in the area. We propose a stone-base volume, which occupies the entire perimeter of the plot. Its thickness varies in order to adequate the topography and some of the houses besides. The stone and the fence are two elements that take on special importance in its relationship with the street, establishing semi-private patios as an orchard that belong to different neighborhood units. Thus, it follows with the heterogeneous structure of courtyards and gardens typical of these towns.

El edificio se sitúa en el parque de Liisanpuisto, a lo largo del paseo marítimo de gran valor histórico en el centro de Helsinki. Se trata de un kiosko de madera cuyas puertas abatibles conforman una terraza del restaurante Sueco Klubben.

The building is situated in Liisanpuistikko park, along a historically valuable maritime environment in central Helsinki. It is a wooden kiosk, which serves the outdoor seating area of the restaurant Svenska Klubben.

El kiosko se abre únicamente en el periodo estival. El diseño enfatiza la capacidad de transformación de la estructura de acuerdo al transcurso de las estaciones. En invierno, durante la clausura, se convierte en un volumen sólido y cerrado de madera que se protege de las inclemencias del tiempo.

The kiosk is open in the summertime, and shuts down in the winter. The design of the kiosk emphasizes this by structurally transforming itself according to the time of the year. In the winter it forms a solid wooden box, clearly stating it’s hibernating status.

Sobre un solar en esquina, de pequeñas dimensiones, recibimos el encargo de construir dos viviendas independientes para dos hermanos jóvenes y solteros. Tomelloso, un pueblo de la Mancha llana que vive de la cultura del vino, aún conserva en sus calles el dominio de austeras tapias blancas; casas del pasado, casi todas con bodega, que sobreviven envueltas por nuevas construcciones rara vez respetuosas con el medio; casas, aquéllas, que se abren generosamente en su interior a un patio, y que renuncian a aperturas indiscriminadas a la calle; casas donde las cuevas-bodegas, situadas bajo ellas en el sustrato calizo, ventilan por troneras abiertas en el zócalo o en el acerado. Desde el conocimiento de esta realidad, un magnífico pueblo cada vez más deteriorado, este proyecto pretende hacernos reflexionar sobre fórmulas que, desde nuestro tiempo, reaviven el amplio y profundo legado de la arquitectura popular. Todos los condicionantes físicos del solar, -reducida superficie, distintas alineaciones interiores,...- o del cliente, -amplísimo programa para un solar tan reducido,...- o urbanísticos, serán siempre puestos a favor de la reflexión anterior.

On a corner site, small in size, we were commissioned to build two separate houses for two young and unmarried brothers. Tomelloso, a village of La Mancha which the main economic support is based on the wine culture, still preserves traditional white walls. They are historical houses, most of them with an underneath winery that have rarely survived from new renovations. They are houses that are generously open inside a courtyard and regrets its connection to the street. They are houses where the caves, as warehouses, are located beneath them in the limestone substrate and ventilated by open loopholes in the plinth or sidewalks. From knowing the reality of this great town that is being deteriorated day by day, the project aims to make a reflect on formulas that, in our time, rekindle the broad and deep legacy of local architecture. All the physical constraints of the site, small plot, various internal alignments,- or client´s constraints, -large program for such a small plot-, will be always taken positively for our design task.

El edificio se sitúa en la parte alta de la ciudad nueva; en el barrio de Buenavista, en un solar desde el que se domina a lo lejos la bella silueta del recinto histórico. Sobre una trama urbana fragmentada y descontextualizada, donde predominan los vacíos, proponemos un nuevo segmento arquitectónico, que se asienta sobre la medianería construida, liberando el resto de la parcela como jardín. Con esa posición retranqueada respecto a la alineación oficial, el volumen edificado asume una mejor relación perceptiva con el entorno próximo de la calle, desde la que se afronta como una pieza sesgada a la que se accede casi sin darnos cuenta por debajo, guiados por el muro curvo que encinta y delimita el jardín.

The building is situated in the upper part of the new city of Toledo; in the Buenavista neighborhood, on a site from which we can see the beautiful skyline of the ancient area in the distance. Over a fragmented urban pattern without context, where empty plots predominate, we propose a new architectural piece, which is based on an existing wall, liberating the rest of the plot and converting it into a garden. With the recessed position on the official alienation, the building volume assumes a better perceptual relation to the immediate environment of the street, from which it is addressed as a piece that is accessed almost imperceptibly beneath, guided by the curved wall that surround and defines the garden.

La propuesta arquitectónica, lejos de posiciones conceptualistas, resulta como reflejo de un riguroso y escueto programa funcional, que agota el aprovechamiento urbanístico del solar, de cara a la obtención del mayor número de unidades-vivero posible.

The architectural proposal, far from conceptualist positions it as a reflection of a rigorous and concise functional program, which runs the urban use of the site, in order to obtain the greatest number of units.

Los espejos reflejan y refractan infinitamente, creando una sensación de interminable. El ángulo de una cara de la pared a la otra es de 15 grados. Este ángulo de 15 grados, el cual es la vigésimo cuarta parte de un círculo, está situado en un camino que genera un espacio virtual en forma de rosquilla. El muro , arropado por un espejo negro en su parte trasera, también está inclinado 15 grados. Se refleja un magnífico árbol por detrás de los DJs residentes y sirve como un cómodo respaldo del asiento ejecutado. Sólo un vidrio de 226 x 226 cm separa la mesa de mezclas de la calle, transformando la acera en un escenario. El ritmo de Nueva York, la música y el deseo de un espacio increíble guió este proyecto. Mirrors reflect and refract infinitely, creating a sense of endlessness. The angle from one sidewall to the other is 15 degrees. This 15-degree angle, which is a slice the 24th of a circle, is placed in such a way to generate a doughnut like virtual space. The mirror cladded back wall is also tilted at 15-degree angle. It reflects a grand tree behind the resident DJs and serves as a comfortable backrest for the built in bench. Only glass separates the 226 x 226cm DJBooth from the street, transforming the sidewalk into a party scene. The rhythm of NY, music, and desire for an amazing space guided this project. El estadio está emplazado en el Parque del Manzanares, muy cerca del río, y cuenta con treinta pistas de tenis, además de otros equipamientos. Acero, madera y vidrio son los materiales elegidos por Perrault para dar forma a esta “Caja Mágica”, cuyas cubiertas adquieren dinamismo al abrirse y cerrarse, interactuando continuamente con el paisaje mientras que sus fachadas, cubiertas por tejido metálico, filtran de día la luz solar y de noche centellean, dando la imagen de un edificio transparente, que permite la visión de lo que sucede dentro y fuera. Con la perspectiva de los Juegos Olímpicos de 2o16, Madrid, ciudad candidata, inicia una campaña de equipamientos espectaculares. Uno de estos edificios es el Centro Olímpico de Tenis, el cual ha sido concebido sobre una superficie de 16.5 hectáreas en antiguos terrenos abandonados situados entre la autopista y los terrenos baldíos de las vías de tren, y cuenta con una superficie de cien mil metros cuadrados. Se compone de tres pistas de tenis cubiertas y con la posibilidad de descubrirse parcial o totalmente. Con un aforo total de veinte mil espectadores, dieciséis pistas de tenis exteriores, cinco pistas cubiertas con capacidad para trescientos

The stadium is located in the Manzanares Park very near the river and boasts thirty tennis courts as well as other facilities. Steel, wood and glass are the materials chosen by Perrault to give shape to this “Magic Box” whose roofs acquire dynamism by opening and closing, continually interacting with the landscape while the facades, covered in a metal fabric, filter the sunlight during the day and sparkle at night, giving the image of a transparent building that permits a view of what is happening inside and outside of it. With the perspective of the 2o16 Olympics, Madrid, a candidate city, set off on a campaign of building spectacular facilities. One of these buildings is the Olympic Tennis Centre, which has been conceived on a surface of 16.5 hectares on the old abandoned land situated between the motorway and the fallow terrain of the train tracks and covers a surface space of a hundred thousand metres square. It is composed of three indoor tennis courts and has the possibility of uncovering them partially or totally. It seats a total of twenty thousand spectators, contains sixteen outdoor tennis courts, five indoor courts seating three hundred and fifty spectators each, six training courts, an indoor swimming pool and the headquarters of the Madrid Tennis

El próximo martes 3 de diciembre, la Cooperación Española presenta en la Fundación ICO la itinerancia de la muestra de fotografía “El arte de la construcción en España”, que viajará por diversos centros culturales del mundo a lo largo de 2o14 y está comisariada por Alberto Cubas. Esta exhibición incluye imágenes tomadas por Ricardo Santonja de obras de los más prestigiosos arquitectos, tanto nacionales como internacionales. De esta manera se relacionan dos disciplinas diferentes: la fotografía y la arquitectura, utilizando puntos de vista y encuadres novedosos. “El arte de la construcción en España” se exhibirá en la Academia de España en Roma en Enero de 2o14, prosiguiendo después su itinerancia por otras capitales de Europa, Asia y Oriente Medio. On Tuesday, December 3 2o13, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECID) presents the photography exhibition “The art of building in Spain” at the ICO Foundation in Madrid, which will tour various cultural centers around the world throughout 2o14 curated by Alberto Cubas. This exhibition includes images taken by Ricardo Santonja of works by the most renowned architects, both domestic and international. Thus two different disciplines relate photography and architecture using new viewpoints and frames. “The art of building in Spain” will be exhibited at the Academy of Spain in Rome in January 2o14, continuing its tour after other capitals of Europe, Asia and the Middle East. El diseño para el montaje de la exposición Jóvenes Arquitectos de España, JAE, se materializa en forma de un gran esqueleto metálico compuesto por 65 costilla. Cada uno de los 62 arquitectos, o equipos de arquitectos seleccionados, está representado en una de estas costillas, las tres restantes sirven de soporte para dar información complementaria a la exposición (créditos y localizaciones geográficas). La repetición es el mejor soporte -el más neutro-, para resaltar la individualidad del trabajo de cada uno de los equipos. Se prentendía así no competir con el material expuesto, sino ser un soporte, como si del marco de un cuadro se tratase, capaz de exponer simultánemente una información estática (el panel), una pieza exenta (la maqueta) y una proyección audiovisual (la pantalla de TV-LCD). El material de este gran esqueleto, acero, forma parte de la esencia con la que se llevó acabo la rehabilitación de la Sala Zuazo -de la mano de Jesús Aparicio y Héctor Hernández-, y dialoga con la otra pieza exenta de esta sala, la escalera de acero que protagoniza el espacio. Las cajas negras que se disponen en este mecano de acero están pensadas para su itinerancia, para que puedan ser reubicadas en cualquier otro lugar de forma exenta. Jesús Donaire

The design of the exhibition Young ARchitects of Spain, JAE in its Spanish initials, has materialized in the form of a large metal skeleton made up of 65 ribs. Each one of the 62 architects or teams of architects selected for the show is represented in one of these ribs; the remaining three serve as support to provide additional information about the exhibition (credits and geographic locations). Repetition is the best support -the most neutralto bring out the individuality of the work of each one of the teams presented. The aim was to not compete with the material on exhibition, but rather to be a support, as if it were a picture frame, capable of revealing the static information (on the panels), the free-standing piece (the scale models) and the audio-visual projection (the TV-LCD screens) simultaneously. The material for this large skeleton, steel, forms part of the essence of the rehabilitation of the Zuazo Exhibition Space designed by Jesús Aparicio and Héctor Fernández and enters into dialogue with the otherfreestanding piece in the hall, the steel staircase that dominates the space. The black boxes that are arranged in this steel tinker toy have been conceived and chosen for their mobility, so that they can be relocated in any other spot freely. Jesús Donaire

The FAD Awards are granted by Arquinfad FAD from Foment de les Arts i Diseny in June. The Awards is focused on individuals, entities or institutions that submitted works completed during the previous year in the Iberian Peninsula and islands. They were founded in 1958 by the architect Oriol Bohigas.

Desde el año 2oo6, cinco familias de obras conceptualmente diferentes son las susceptibles de ser premiados: · Arquitectura · Interiorismo · Ciudad y paisaje · Intervenciones efímeras · Pensamiento y crítica Los Premios FAD se crearon con la idea de recuperar los concursos de edificios y establecimientos que había convocado el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona entre 1899 y1912, en una primera época que coincide con el auge del modernismo y con la configuración definitiva de la ciudad después de la demolición de las murallas, y en una segunda época, entre 1913 y 193o, coincidiendo con la eclosión del novecentismo.

Since 2oo6, five categories based on different fields are likely to be awarded: · Architecture · Interior · City and landscape · Ephemeral spaces · Critical thinking FAD Awards were created with the idea of recovering contests buildings and establishments that had convened the Barcelona City Council between 1899 y1912. The first period coincides with the rise of modernism and the final configuration of the city after the walls demolition. The second time is between 1913 and 193o, coinciding with the emergence of novecentismo.

Tanto Croacia como Eslovenia poseen una historia cultural, económica y política compleja. Hoy, perteneciendo a la Nueva Europa son lugares de intensidad, inspiración y productivos debates de arquitectura y urbanismo.

Both Croatia and Slovenia have had a complex cultural, economic, and political history, and now as members of a New Europe are sites of intense, inspiring, and productive architectural and urban debates.

La exposición se centra en estudios de arquitectura y urbanismo que despuntan en ambos países. Estos arquitectos comenzaron sus carreras al tiempo de la transición de la Yugoslavia comunista al sistema capitalista de naciones independientes. Esta transición se convirtió en oportunidad y en un contexto que facilitó el desarrollo de jóvenes profesionales, se convirtieron en una nueva visión del futuro de la arquitectura de sus ciudades.

The exhibition focused on innovative practices in architecture and urbanism in Croatia and Slovenia. These architects began their careers at the time of transition from a communist Yugoslavia to a capitalist system of independent nations. This transition became an opportunity, and within a context that facilitated the development of young professionals, they became responsible for providing a new vision for the architecture, and future, of their cities.

A pesar del carácter local del trabajo construido, estos estudios presentan una serie de estrategias proyectuales que les sitúan en el núcleo de la producción arquitectónica contemporánea. Sus fundadores enseñan en escuelas en todo el mundo, participan en bienales y publican en medios internacionales. Esta condición de ejercer la profesión superando las barreras geográficas les sitúa como parte del fenómeno arquitectónico global.

Regardless of the locality of the built work, these firms’ production techniques and strategies may be situated at the core of contemporary architectural production. The practitioners teach in schools around the world, participate in biennales, and publish in international media. It is this condition of practice beyond geographical boundaries that situates them as part of a global phenomenon.

Aunque la exposición subraya parte de la producción, es importante reseñar que la selección supone un reflejo del resto de trabajos. A pesar de compartir contextos históricos y políticos, las diferencias entre ambos países son destacables. La reconstrucción supuso diferentes maneras de enfocar el progreso. Durante diez años, las economías dañadas permitían el desarrollo intelectual sin presiones del mercado.

Although the exhibition highlighted the work of certain works, it is important to present such work as a reflection of its conditions of production. Despite the shared historical context and common political history, the differences between the two countries and among the firms are vast. Therefore reconstruction had different focuses and priorities, and certainly different meanings. Still, for ten years, the damaged economies allowed for intellectual development without the pressures of a demanding market.

Durante la última década, ha habido un cambio significante en el campo de la arquitectura finlandesa, debido a que una nueva generación de jóvenes arquitectos se han establecido ganando un gran número de concursos de Arquitectura recientes en Finlandia y en el extranjero. La exposición “NEW ORDER - Emerging Finnish Architects” (NUEVA ORDEN Nuevos Arquitectos Finlandeses) presenta a los próximos Arquitectos jóvenes finlandeses más interesantes, sus últimos proyectos, visiones y formas de trabajo. La exposición presenta nueve estudios de Arquitectura finlandesa. Los “Nuevos Arquitectos FInlandeses” son ALA Architects, NOW for Architecture and Urbanism, VERSTAS Architects, AVANTO Architects, Hirvilammi Lassila Architects and Anttinen Oiva Architects, Architects, Frondelius+Keppo+Salmenperä, K2S Architects and Hollmén Reuter Sandman Architects. La mayoría de estos estudios jovénes han sido fundados después de 2oo2. Aún así, ya son ampliamente reconocidos en Finlandia y en el extranjero.

During the last decade, there has been a significant shift in the Finnish architectural field, as a new generation of young architects have established themselves by winning many recent architectural competitions in Finland and abroad. The exhibition “NEW ORDER - Emerging Finnish Architects” introduces the most interesting young, upcoming Finnish architects, their latest projects, visions and ways of working. The exhibition introduces nine Finnish architectural offices. “NEW ORDER Emerging Finnish Architects” are ALA Architects, NOW for Architecture and Urbanism, VERSTAS Architects, AVANTO Architects, Hirvilammi Lassila Architects and Anttinen Oiva Architects, Architects Frondelius+Keppo+Salmenperä, K2S Architects and Hollmén Reuter Sandman Architects. Most of these young offices have been founded after 2oo2. Nevertheless, they have already been widely recognised both in Finland and abroad.
