Statistical Notes Springfield’s Evangel University used Plaster Field for most home games from 1988 to 2000 and is the only other collegiate tenant of the Bears’ facility included in stadium records. The NCAA didn’t require kickoff and punt return stats until 1970, making return records incomplete on many former players, notably Bears TB Cornelius Perry (1963-65) who returned five kickoffs for TDs and had several other long runbacks in three seasons at Missouri State. Defensive statistics on tackles were first maintained in 1972. Complete Missouri State season stats are only available from 1956 to the present, and complete single game stats are available only from 1972 to the present. Prior to 2002, postseason stats were listed as playoff/bowl game records, but were not included in regular season NCAA stats. From an MSU standpoint, this affects the NCAA season and career stats of people who played in the Bears’ three NCAA FCS playoff games in 1989 and 1990, notably DeAndre Smith, Chris Potthast, Richard Grote, Rodney McConico, Phillip Collins, Anthony Pegues, Chuck Calhoun and Brett VonWiller. Their career stats in all categories listed include stats compiled in FCS playoff games in MSU records, but in NCAA and Valley records, stats compiled in NCAA playoffs are deleted. That method of charting records was changed with 2002 and all individual and team stats compiled in FCS playoff games are now incorporated into regular season stat categories, for purposes of noting Valley and FCS game, season and career record performances.
