Faculty Athletics Representative 24th Year at Missouri State
Dr. James Hutter begins his second year as faculty athletics representative and his 24th overall at Missouri State in 2012. Hutter took over the role of FAR last year after serving as vice-chair of MSU’s Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (IAC) in 2010-11. Hutter has been a faculty member for Missouri State’s William H. Darr School of Agriculture since completing his Ph.D. in agriculture education from the University of Minnesota in 1991. He has been recognized by MSU on several occasions with excellence in teaching and service awards and has served on numerous committees during his tenure at MSU, including a stint as chair of the University’s Professional Education Committee. Hutter graduated from Missouri State with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education in 1984, then earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1987. A native of nearby Miller, Mo., Hutter and his wife, Leslie, reside in Republic with their two sets of twins, Tate and Hayes, and Gibbs and Tess.
General Manager, Collegiate Consulting First Year at Missouri State
After announcing its new ticketing partnership with Missouri State University in Februrary, Collegiate Consulting selected Tom Ladd as the general manager of ticket sales and service for the MSU athletics property. Ladd enters his new position after spending over 20 years in the radio broadcasting business. He began his broadcast career in Farmington, Mo., as a sports director and play-by-play announcer. His on-air play-byplay personality earned him several awards, including Missouri’s Best Play-by-Play Announcer in 1993 and 1994. He later served as operations manager, sales manager and station manager for Meyer Communications in Springfield and spent more than a decade (1995-2007) as the radio voice of the MSU Lady Bears. Ladd also spent time with the Springfield Cardinals as sales manager, helping the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals average over capacity at Hammons Field every season under his direction. Ladd, who began his duties in late March, is originally from Marine, Ill. He attended McKendree College and Maryville University. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children, Holly and Skyler.

Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Seventh Year at Missouri State
Terry Sauerbry enters his seventh year as head strength and conditioning coach for the 16 MSU intercollegiate sports in 2012-13. Sauerbry began his current role at MSU in 2006 after serving in a similar capacity at the University of Rhode Island. He established the Rhode Island athletics strength and conditioning program where none had previously existed. Like MSU, Rhode Island is an NCAA FCS school. Prior to his tenure at Rhode Island, Sauerbry was associate strength coach at Temple University from 1998 to 2005. Previously, he was an assistant strength coach at the University of Maryland from 1997 through 1998. A native of Langhome, Pa., Sauerbry competed as a student-athlete on the football team at Maryland before graduating from the school in 1998 with a degree in kinesiological sciences. He also earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Temple in 2000.
Director of Athletic Medical and Rehabilitation Services 23rd Year at Missouri State
Jim Penkalski enters his fourth full year as director of Missouri State Athletic Medical and Rehabilitation Services and his 23rd year overall at MSU. Penkalski took over as head of the MSU athletic training program in March 2009 following the retirement of Ivan Milton. Penkalski oversees a staff of six full-time certified athletic trainers, three intern athletic trainers and a host of student trainers. A Broadview Heights, Ohio, native, Penkalski also fills the role of primary athletic trainer for baseball and has worked with a number of MSU athletic programs throughout his tenure. Penkalski competed in football and wrestling at Brecksville High before completing his undergraduate degree in physical education from Kent State in 1987. He then moved on to Northern Michigan for his graduate studies, completing his master’s degree in 1989. Penkalski and his wife, Missy, have three children, Amanda, Katelyn and Russell.
