Kirk Gibson • Joined the Spartan baseball team as a junior in 1978, hitting .390 with 16 home runs and 52 RBIs. • Four-year football letterwinner amassed 122 career receptions for 2,347 yards and 24 touchdowns. • Named to the All-America football and baseball teams. • Detroit Tigers No. 1 draft pick in 1978 (No. 12 overall). • Hit 20 home runs and stole 20 bases in helping lead the Tigers to the 1984 World Series title. • Joined the Dodgers in 1988 and picked up his second World Championship ring and hit one of the most memorable home runs in baseball history in Game One of the World Series. • Named National League MVP in 1988 after hitting .290 with 25 home runs and 76 RBIs. • Played 17 major league seasons for the Tigers, Dodgers, Pirates and Royals, batting .268 with 255 home runs and 870 RBIs. • In his first full season as a manager in 2011, led the Arizona Diamondbacks to the NL West title and was named the National League Manager of the Year. • One of just four people in Major League Baseball history to win both an MVP Award and a Manager of the Year Award. • Inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994. • One of four Spartans to have his number (30) honored.

Mark Mulder

• Earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore, going 7-2 with four saves and the second-lowest ERA in the Big Ten at 2.26. • Third-team All-America selection from the NCBWA and Louisville Slugger and first-team All-Big Ten as a junior. • Went 6-6 with a 3.40 ERA his junior year while hitting a team-best .355 with 11 doubles, five home runs and 30 RBIs. • Still holds the MSU single-season record with 113 strikeouts. • Second overall pick in the 1998 MLB draft. • Made major league debut in April of 2000 at the age of 22. • Finished second in the Cy Young Award balloting in 2001 and led the AL with 21 wins. • Went 19-7 in 2002 and 15-9 in 2003 en route to his first All-Star Game appearance. • Won 17 games in 2004 and started the All-Star Game. • Signed as a free agent with the Cardinals in 2005 and tallied a 16-8 record that year. • Earned a World Series ring with the Cardinals in 2006. • Collected a 103-60 record in nine seasons in the Major Leagues (2000-08).
