once again, and there’s nothing I can tell you that these learned men here haven’t already told you. And the big thing is that it’s empty. That’s either proof, or no proof. It would be great if we had some film with Jesus in the tomb, and then getting out and walking. But we don’t, so there’s not a lot that can be said about it. People ask, “Is this the place?” I don’t know. There are all sorts of archaeological points of view and theological points of view, and I don’t do any of those. I just do my point of view, and you get to do your point of view. And

maybe we have the same point of view. But mine is very simple. If it isn’t inside of you, it doesn’t matter where it is outside of you. If this particular garden is the place of the resurrection and it’s nowhere else, then there is no need for anybody to live anywhere but in the garden. That’s folly. It wouldn’t work. If it could be found here, there’s a good chance that it could be found a lot of places. I think what most of us want, and what we’re hoping to have all the time, is a constant resurrection inside. New Day Herald 7

I’m always recovering from something. I’m recovering from yesterday. I’m recovering from this morning. I’m not even inferring that that’s a resurrection. For a few days I thought it was. I thought, well, I’m dying, and then I woke up later and thought that I died and I’m awake. And I’m not even sure that’s true.

they’ll just say, “Well you’re absolutely crazy.” (I don’t know if crazy is a bad thing because my crazies are what kept me from going insane—because it was For quite a few weeks, almost since we started out just far enough out that on this trip, there has been trouble in the middle it worked and just close east. The God that we worship and know is a God of forgiveness. That is one of the most remarkable things—that we can, and we will be, forgiven over and over and over. And then we get to learn the lesson of what we’ve done, even though sometimes we repeat it.

This line of energy that we work with through Christ goes back to the Prophets and back into Adam and Eve, and back into the time before it all started. And we are connected spiritually into that energy, right into this second. That’s why we experience so many confounding things inside of us, so many different levels of wanting and not wanting at the same time. We can experience a duty and, at the same time, a hatred of it. So we can do the duty hatefully, and we really do it to our damnation, because we have to do it with the “Be-attitude.” Our job is so full-time, I don’t know that New Day Herald 9

we have time to discuss anybody else. Last night at dinner we were sitting and discussing a person, and how they are such a powerful creator that they created so many things that are contrary, controversial, loving, caring, upside-down, right side up, inside-out. And we all just love to be in that and talk about it and learn from it, all while we’re laughing and smiling. Somebody else listening to it might think, “Oh you’re demeaning their character.” No we’re not. We were sharing the value of what we’ve learned, and the points of view about our learning. That’s a nice thing to do. I think if the person who we were discussing were there, they would have been honored at listening to how we were honoring them. We weren’t being vainglorious and saying things that weren’t so. We’re aware of the faults and we said, “Hey, we saw that fault, and that was kind of neat the way they did it, and it’s neat because they recovered from it.” And we looked at how we can all create, make faults, recover, and keep growing. The Bible has a great statement in Proverbs that is something like, “If a man falls seven times, he gets up one more.” I just discovered that here in this garden and I was reading it. I read those before and I’ve said that no matter how many times you fall you only have to do one thing, and that’s get up one more time. The Bible said it a different way and I thought, “I like mine better.” I’ll quote the Bible, but I like the way that I say it. Just get up one more time. So what do we focus on? Getting up. That’s all our focus is. I’ve often focused on how many times I’ve gone down. But it’s amazing—as soon as I’ve focused on the times that I get up, I love the times when I fell down. I look at them and I look back down and I go, “Whoa! That was really wild. I did this, and then this, and there it was. I really struggled for that, and when I finally let it go I was free.” And I think, “How dumb. J-R, you’ve got a really dumb part inside of you.” And I don’t want to let go of that, because otherwise I can’t talk to dumb

people, nor can I talk to people who are doing dumb things. I may just think that they are evil or wicked and say something that is not what is so. I think all of us have got that little bell inside of us that goes, “Ding ding, that’s a stupid. Ding, that’s a crazy. Ding ding, that’s dumb.” And then sometimes we go, “Ding ding, that’s a good one!” But we’re not writing down the good one so we can remember it. We say, “Oh I’ll remember that,” and we don’t, until someone says something to clue us in and we remember it. Write it down. The memory is only designed to hold something for about six to ten seconds and then it dumps it. So usually by the time we’re going to tell somebody something we forgot what it was, unless we get some stimulus to clue us back in again. Writing it down clues us back in again. and to God. It’s like, “Oh God, I missed it.” You’re probably going to say, “Here comes another target, here comes another shot, aim a little higher.” I think we make two mistakes. We aim too high, and then we’re a martyr and a victim, or we aim too low, so that when we get it, it isn’t worthwhile and we have low self-esteem. It’s important that we aim at where we can hit the target so we have confidence, and then stretch ourselves a little more and shoot again. We’re going to miss it—no question about it. But we’re going to keep shooting—no question about it. Many of you have said, “Oh I’m not going to follow a spiritual path or anything like that, and I’m going to get up and walk out of this, and I don’t care and I don’t ...” You just did your whole number, and the next thing you know, you’re right back in there again. When you do something like that, you’re setting things up so that you can’t trust what you say. If you know your pattern or your habit, there’s no need to make statements against it, because you know you’re going to do it. But next time, you can try harder. And you say, “Yes I did it. Next time, I will do better.” You start to talk to yourself to do better and better until you hear the spirit of truth talk to you. And it’s amazing how you’re going to have a hard time discerning whether it’s the truth of your own beingness telling you truth, or your mind telling you the truth that you know is true, or your heart representing the truth clearly. So many of us have the games of communication down so that we can always act like we’re in the right. We know how to say, “Oh I misunderstood, I didn’t see this, or that, or something else.” And it was wrong. We’re further ahead to say, “I didn’t get that. It was an error.” People know that, and if you just tell them, it’s amazing how forgiving we are of each other. But this isn’t easy. Jesus Christ said, “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do,” and loved it all. God would often say to the prophets of old, “Go do this.” And they’d say, “No,” and start running away. He’d have to track them down and get them to do it. Why were they reluctant? People kill the prophets and the saviors of God. Humanity’s biggest crime is its own inhumanity to itself. Not just that we do it to each other, but we do inhuman things to ourselves.

@msiaorg

I know that every time Jesus touched somebody He opened their spirit. And I think that when He said, “This that I do you too shall do, and even greater,” that touching people to open their spirit is a big part of it. It’s not our job to teach what Christ teaches. Only Christ could teach that. And it’s not our job to convict, which is the Holy Spirit’s job. Our job is to make the connection, to make the bridge, to gap the dissension, to provide an intercession with people— into themselves, into Christ, into God, and into eternal life. And that becomes easy for us when we practice it daily. In the old days they used to wash their face, hands, and feet because it was a symbol of outward cleanliness. We’ve got a harder job. We have to wash internally—and we can do that by drinking water to help wash things and detoxify the body, by holding positive thoughts in our mind to keep the mind clear, and by loving with the heart. We keep the heart warm and growing and fruitful so that it puts out a sweet essence into the air. Then people say, “I’m glad I know you. I’m glad you’re in my life. My life is richer because your name is on my tongue.” In this you start to share back to them the good things they’ve done. When you’re in that there’s not a thing that can be done that’s bad. When you’re courting somebody, every little thing they do is so cute and wonderful. If they spill soup all over you, you go, “Oh I’m going to save the soup forever. That was the day you spilt the soup on me.” After you’re married and they spill the soup you say, “You clumsy person, why do you spill the soup?” Keep the courtship in the marriage. Keep the courtship in the relationship to God. Keep courting God. Keep doing those cute, clever, wonderful things that God will look upon and say, “I like that. You’re a joker. I love it.” When somebody asked Jesus, “What is it that I can really do?” he said, “Well, love God with your body, mind and soul, and your neighbor as yourself. And when you’ve done it to the least of these you’ve done it to me.” Can you image the burden that can be on you if you hurt somebody that is Jesus Christ in there? That’s like biting the hand that feeds you and then clubbing them in the head, and then stomping on them and saying “get out of my way.”

New Day Herald 13

And that’s the one you have to pick up. I think if there’s anything we could really say to ourselves, we’d say, “Just smarten up.” Quit looking into the debasement of anything. Quit looking into the judgment. Look into the information. We’re still going to be doing intercessory work. The Bible says there are going to be wars and rumors of wars and terrible things. The bloodshed on the physical is not as critical as the fighting in the spirit to hold and contain these negative powers that would corrupt mankind and block the salvation of Christ for all of us. We’d better save ourselves because nobody else seems to be getting around to doing it. But the spiritual part is saved. And if that’s saved and we keep attached to the spirit, it will come into the physical body. It will start to transmute it, and change it, and bring about wonderful things in our life.

“...L

But when we love people in spite of what’s going on, that’s when the greatest love appears.” punish ourselves more wickedly and more righteously than anybody else knows how to do. And we run from punishment, to man’s desire, and to salvation—which is the Messiah. And that becomes, then, the intercessory one between us and God.

We’re doing intercessory work between the negativity and mankind. We’re praying, and people are saying, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” They’re not just praying for this city. They’ve got to pray for the Jerusalem in all of us, the peaceful city where we live inside of us. If we don’t do it, who’s going to do You that have listened and heard, you’re blessed. You it? And if we don’t do it now, when on earth will it that have gotten antsy and distracted yourself, you be done? If people don’t do it for themselves we’re cursed yourself. Don’t do that to yourself. If you’re doing it for them. We’re interceding, we’re assisting, not going to listen to what’s said, chant God’s names. we’re giving them a kick start. ng Ourselves with the Christ by

John Morton

When our higher consciousness, the

Christ Consciousness, comes into this world, we can experience it practically as, “What was I thinking? It didn’t look like that from up here.” When you put gravity, and the layers, density, and forgetfulness, what we would interpret as the harshness or the darkness of the world, then it seems like, “Why is this necessary?” When we remember ourself as one with the Christ, then it’s about our awakening. It’s about enlightenment and illumination. It’s about coming into our spiritual heritage by emerging from the cosmic egg so we are breaking through our shell. At some point, when we’re full enough in our re-evolvement, we’re coming back through, in a sense, where we first incarnated. So it’s like a review.

@msiaorg

In looking at embryology, you can see whatever forms we came through as an awareness of creation. We’re evolving. We’re also involving in that the spirit is pulling upon us from the top down and from within out. We’re sourcing from within, from our heart of hearts. Then in our maturity, we have a beautiful expression. We have a Christ anointed expression into the world. That’s the human potential. It’s the spiritual destiny. It’s what we also refer to as the spiritual promise. So it’s not something such that we have to die in order to experience it. It’s not that until we drop the body, do we then know what it is. We can bring forward that awareness while we’re in the body. We can already be experiencing what it is to be one with the Christ.

New Day Herald 19

With these gifts of awareness, we may be called upon to share and to serve. When we’re inspired to serve in whatever way that would be, that would be a sign that we’re in tune with our true nature. Of course, there’s been lots of demonstrations in our world, lots of exampleship from those who were

sufficiently awake to demonstrate and give us exampleship of what it is to be in our true nature to live in this world. We are all well-served as souls coming into soul transcendence in this lifetime with the Traveler. Having that divine connection

is a very rich blessing. When we do baby blessings in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, we often refer to the School of Divine in the Holy of Holies. That’s the Traveler’s school. We’re in that. It’s like there are very beautiful curtains or energy fields of divine loving around us, but they’re not

allowed to interfere with the lessons of the world. In a Soul Awareness Seminar of John-Roger’s, he talks about the Buddha consciousness and how the father of Siddhartha attempted to shelter the Buddha from the world. If you look at the story, those seemed to be extreme measures of protecting and sheltering, such as, “I don’t want you to know about death. I don’t want to you know about illness or corruption. I don’t want you to have disappointment.” That approach was such that when Siddhartha went out into the world, he had extreme intensity in having life experiences that were in a way deprived to him. There was a lot of difficulty and challenge, of catching up to the world and being disillusioned by how he was raised about the ways of this world. Siddhartha had a lot of experiences that were kept from him that would really have been in his best interest to have had awareness about. We’re not here to be without any negative experiences. That’s pretty obvious. We can be strong. We can rise up. It may seem unfair from a certain perspective, except all is fair in love and whatever else goes on. Eventually, you’re going to overcome whatever it is that you’re dealing with in this world. You might as well do that now in your attitude towards your life, which includes whatever is going on at this time. Just embrace it. Give it a hug, even when you’re disappointed, mad or it seems @msiaorg

unfair. Self-minister or turn to the people who understand, who have been through it, who have the life experience to share their wisdom and pass it on to you. Those of us who are parents know there’s this intense desire to spare our children from unnecessary hurt, disappointment, mayhem and all the rest of negativity. At times it comes up, like, “I’ll put my body in front of that. I won’t let my child have that experience because I will do everything in my power to not allow it.” Some of that is allowed and some is not.

and let God. Don’t worry about where you came up short in the day or in the past. It’s not really your level of concern because in the blessing of the Christ, the forgiving of the Christ, you go free. Move into forgiveness, and get the forgiveness out. To the degree you forgive, you’re forgiven.

If we judge, we remain captive. How do we let go of judging when the mind is a master of judgment, a master of criticism and finding fault? The mind is pre-conditioned, pre-judged. If you ran through every judgment that you’ve already got coming to you, you’d still have more It can be a challenging world, lifetimes to get through all the but when it’s all said and done, judgments you have coming to in a way it drops away. We all lift you. Lord have mercy! And there from what this world is. We all is mercy; you convert into what transcend it. We have that destiny that mercy is. You become that built in. We are not to remain in mercy. So you’re called upon to our bodies. We are not to remain be anointed in the Christ and live in this world. as the Christ. What we’re doing in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is helping you have this experience now, early on, so you can partake in the gifts of that knowledge. You can know, “I’m not my body. I’m not what happens in this world. I’m not even what I do in my body or what somebody else does to my body. I’m transcended of that, and with that knowledge, then I don’t have to get caught in it. It’s not my business. My business is to go home with God. And while I’m assigned here, I’m to make the best of it.” Do the best that you can. That’s really it. And at the end of the day, there’s this opportunity with the Christ to turn it over, to let go

When we do that, I call it a “Grace Field.” We start putting out tenderness, understanding, laughter, peace, and encouragement. We start giving that toward one another, so that if we falter, if we slip, we have a brother or a sister who picks us up. Maybe there’s an elder who helps us or a child who leads us where we need to go. The way the karma flows, it’s often we just switch a position from one lifetime to another. It may be like “Who is going to be the mom and the dad this lifetime?” One of us may choose, “Okay, I’ll be the daughter this time since I was the mom last lifetime,” or vice versa. Can it be that simple, like drawing New Day Herald 21

cards? Consider whatever cards are dealt to you --- genetically, numerologically, astrologically, etcetera. Consider however you want to look at all these influences --- into what culture are you’re born, what lifetime, the community karma, the world karma, etcetera --- then every day it moves in another round. How can we keep up with all that? Go inside to the consciousness that overcomes it all and has already overcome. Tune in to the Christ Consciousness so that whatever the world can do, that Consciousness steps free from that. That’s the consciousness of the Beloved that loves all of God’s creation. In taking inventory of my abilities on a personal level, I don’t know how to love all of God’s creation. But the consciousness of God within me does. So I’m reaching toward that consciousness of unconditional loving extended to what I personally don’t want to do. Be aware of your resistance. Be aware when you’re fighting, in misery or in righteous judgment. This is where something is needed on the order of a self-hug, to embrace yourself within, because that’s where the healing occurs. Go inside and find that place that’s a sanctuary of God’s light and love. Call in God’s name so it steps it up as an infusion of the Christ consciousness, an infusion of what is the Traveler on all levels. We call it chanting your tone or the Ani Hu, to call upon God’s name so that you are tuning into the oneness of all. Then we start working our awareness, not just in this world but in the other worlds where we have life experiences. As we go up, our experiences are multi-dimensional. It’s miraculous that we could be working it here while working it on every level of our existence. Going into the realm of spirit where we come from, we can work above the soul. In my humanness, my mind doesn’t know how to comprehend that. But I know it from an intuitive place. It’s the message that I know in my heart. It’s a natural knowing. I know that in some way I’m connected to what it is. So I know it is already being done. What comes out of the realms of spirit is the knowledge that it is already done. So not one soul is lost. We are already home. What are we doing? We’re disbursing the sense that we’re not home. It’s just a sense anyway; it’s not a reality. Yet, our minds can’t help it. Our minds reinvent the illusion. Minds are like that. So don’t try to suppress the mind by saying, “Mind, don’t do that! I won’t have a mind doing that!” Instead, it’s about redirecting the mind so it is in alignment with your soul. It’s about redirecting to the good and to doing greater good. 22 New Day Herald

Every day we need to take a love bath, a light bath, so there’s an emersion in letting it go. Begin and finish the day in this way because these are points of transition, when we leave the body or come into the body. Put your order in correctly and get the soul activated in your awareness. John-Roger would say “God morning.” So get “Good morning” in there, or “Thank you,” even if it comes out through gritted teeth. Just have some level of you say it. God understands that it may sound feeble and it’s the best you could do. God knows your intention. So if that was the best you could do, the mercy of who you are as the Christ extends as you strive toward perfection.

The Christ is in the completing of what that is. We’re not called upon to do perfection through the body. It’s done in the spirit. We just do the best that we can and let it go. You may in a way need to do that several times a day. It may feel like, “I’m doing it with every breath.” Good, because that’s a blessing! In every breath, you are reconnecting yourself spiritually. That’s not a curse. Learn to do it so it’s effortless. You don’t have to think about it, you just do it. You form positive habits. You can recondition the lower nature so it becomes saint-like. Then at some point it’s like, you are one. You are a saint. It’s not that you need that recognition. Becoming saint-like has its own knowing of what it is. It just does it because that’s its true nature.

Serving in the Christ When you are serving in the Christ, it is not a path of discouragement. It’s a path of encouragement and enthusiasm. So find the joy. Serve because it’s the right thing to do even if you don’t feel like it. You may say, “I know it’s the right thing to do, but I don’t want to do it.” We all get choices, so then watch what happens as a result of your choices. If you don’t like the results, have the wit to change it up and do your life differently. If you’re looking for a partner or partners in your service, then choose to match up with those who are of a higher evolvement. Do that as much as possible such that they adore you as you are. If acceptance and appreciation are not present, it’s a recipe for difficulty. But you may receive what you need to learn because every situation is an opportunity to become what you are spiritually designed to become. In truth, we’re all teachers to one another. It’s not like our children don’t teach us. Children teach us, even if they are unevolved, relatively speaking, to where we think we are. Children often teach even more when we allow ourselves the perception that we can learn from them. The good news is you are being prepared. It’s okay that you’d want to do it right, but it’s important to have patience. Your ideal life is something that was prepared in the best way for you. And it involves having some patience and setting things up in an order.

If you think about how birds build their nests, at first it may seem crazy how they’re gathering all those pieces. Then they keep bringing the pieces to this particular place, and it sort of weaves itself into something that becomes a nest. Then the eggs appear, and we begin to understand. When something comes out of that egg, it’s like, “Oh my!” And when a young bird flies away, it’s like, “Wow! Where did that come from? I think it was a nest. A nest did that.” No, there was something before the nest. But you may not see that because your awareness doesn’t yet understand there was something going on before the building of the nest. So something is going on before you are nesting with somebody. That’s not a moral statement like, “I want you to wait until you have the nest to properly do something.” No, it’s about practicing so you know what to do when it’s the right thing to do to build something for the greater good.

Ever Greater Good Every day, in every way, we are reaching new levels of the highest good. New levels of the best yet. New peak experiences. have witnesses that say, “No, Christ is not here now,” which we refer to as negativity and denial, we don’t have to listen to those voices.

Dream big. Dream absolute. Then work it practically. Work it right where you are so it becomes day to day, moment to moment. This is the movement. It keeps moving. Then your ability is measured by how loving you are, how forgiving you are, how helpful and caring you are. These are the ways to extend and expand. We are allowed to extend grace to one another, to become those who are going with the focus that we can all see. There’s great value in our coming together to share and help one another.

Even if the world inflicts whatever negativity, choose into the willingness to process it in peace, love and understanding. That is a Christ action so that we can take on greater and greater levels of the karma here. As long as you’re getting strong spiritual muscles, you might as well use those abilities to love unconditionally, to serve and help others.

How would we know that we’re awake in heaven? What would it look like on earth? Our experience in this world still has DNA. Yet, it’s heavenly because of the experience we’re bringing to it. So we can relate to it in a heavenly way and experience it in a heavenly way while we’re experience ourselves in this physical world. Our choosing to relate as the Christ could be so transformative that something dissolves about the harshness and negativity of the world. So this third planet from the sun in this part @msiaorg

What if I said, “Hey everybody, let’s go meet Jesus. He’s at the head of a pin!” Are you up for it? I am. Instead of saying, “That’s ridiculous. Jesus isn’t going to show up at the head of a pin,” you might want to check it out. Lean into it. See what it is. What if the pin is your pin number and you can just unlock it? Wouldn’t that be nice if we just go “1-2-3” and it unlocks the Christ Consciousness? Would you then ask yourself, “What took me so long? Was it really just 1-2-3 all along?” Let’s not go into regret or doubt because the Christ Consciousness is here and now. And that’s part of it --- for us to be awake in this moment. And just because we

John-Roger reminded us to choose which voice we follow. Choose the voice that would help you understand how to work this world so you’re listening to the sound you want to vibrate to. And those sounds that you don’t want to vibrate to, just let them waft around. Let them go.

As you remember yourself as the Christ, it follows naturally to help this world be a place of peace, compassion and understanding. You demonstrate that. So don’t be surprised if you’re called into the Christ action. What would that be? A Christ action might be helping an old man across the street. Or it might be helping an old man cross the street. It’s like if we’re going to hand out loaves and fishes, it’s not just one. It might be, but more often it’s a shared experience with infinite opportunity to care and serve. We are in a family of the Christ here and now, helping one another. Choose to remember who you truly are.

Blessing of Expanding in the Christ Beloved In Your light, Lord, we become more consciously aware of Your loving that is absolute.

We find in every way we are opening in Your attunement as we have come awake in the purpose of this gathering. We find You in the Traveler consciousness, in this line of the Travelers. With the light is the anointing, the presence of this vibration, the holy vibration of God’s name, because it’s heard over and over, higher and higher, in ever greater harmonies. We’re in the chorus. We’re in the glory. We’re in the simplicity and ordinariness of this moment, the right here, right now. We are awake to the Christ beloved. Once again, we flood ourselves in Your compassion, in Your complete understanding, in Your joy, Your sense of humor, Your sweetness, Your adoration, the way You play, the way You lead, where we find You at our moment of greatest need. As we stand with You as we follow Your direction, Your purpose, in Your ministry into this world, we join in. We become one with You, integrated and whole, sharing Your blessings in simple ways.

We see it is like we are the one holding You as a tender child, the birth of the Christ in our arms. As we look into Your eyes, we see the innocence, the purity, the new birth, the new life. We know You are showing this in us and one another and everyone in the world. We ask for Your strength. We ask that we may always remember You and keep Your commandments, and have Your spirit to be with us forever more. We know this is the Holy Communion, that we are Your blood, this life force coursing through us in every cell, vital, on fire with Your purpose, lit up in our mind that we have this understanding that we can speak. It’s in our voice. It’s in our ears in what we hear. We can taste it. It’s a beautiful ambrosia. This world is a heavenly place in Your presence. Now we see You eye to eye, face to face, arm in arm. We go into this world full of Your purpose, full of the joy of knowing ourselves as one with you as the Lord of Lords, that they may know us in this world, that we are all the Lord’s keeping, safe and secure, the beloved of God.

The Hermitage of Saint Antoine de Galamus in southern France is a

cave cut into a deep Gorge where legend has it Mary Magdalene lived for 30 years. It is a relatively cosy place as caves go, warm because deep in a cliff, safe with running water from a spring and with sufficient height for smoky cooking and heating fire. It has an added bonus; a convenient hole to act as a chimney. @msiaorg

New Day Herald 33

Whether Mary Magdalene lived there or not, others did until in the fifteenth century Franciscan monks made it into a church. There are statues hewn out of the rock, little replicas of saints, pews, an altar and above it a massive crucifix. It was the first place that John Morton took us in the South of France. There he chose to speak, sitting on a rocky promontory looking down to where most of us sat. Leigh Taylor-Young leant her head on his knee and as the candlelight flickered and danced on the statues of saints around them, John read the Cathar Promise. The promise proposes a gentle loving way of living based in being positive and tolerant; Christlike behavior. It could have been written now. The parallels with J-R’s teachings were immediately obvious. Over the next few days we visited cathedrals and Cathar sites, each time pausing to listen

to John and anchor in peace, love and light. He led us up a steep pathway to Montsegur, a citadel high on a rock. It was a hard climb to the place where the Cathar story ended. In 1243-4, 500 Cathars were besieged in Montsegur for ten months by 10,000 Vatican paid troops. The soldiers finally managed to build a trebuchet, a massive catapult for hurling rocks, close to the wall. The Cathars gave up Montsegur. Over the next 14 days many swore allegiance to the established Catholic Church. On the fifteenth day in a field below the citadel, 200 men and women walked to their death, climbing willingly on to a massive pyre to be burned. We stood heads bowed in that field. A light breeze ruffled the trees, touched the pink orchids in the grass and carried the

sweet notes of a hymn sung to honor them. Why didn’t the Cathars resist? Why were they killed? They died for the right to express loving and gentleness as their understanding of Christ’s teachings. Discovering why they were killed is untangling a knot of changing belief. The root of their story began almost 1000 years before in May 325 AD at the Council of Nicea. You may remember it was the Apostles, and later Saint Paul, who held the Christians together immediately after Christ’s death. They advised the early Christians to live communally, seek support from one another and demonstrate the loving teachings of @msiaorg

Jesus the Christ. You may not know that it was the Roman Emperor Constantine who used his power to bring them together into an organized church with a management hierarchy which mirrored that of the Roman Army. Constantine was born in what is now Serbia, the son of the Roman Consul, and he became the Emperor of the Roman Empire through bitter military battles. His conversion to Christianity occurred in 312 AD just before the final battle of his campaign at Milvuin Bridge. In a vision he was told that if he rode into battle carrying the symbol of Christ he would win. He was massively outnumbered. He carried the emblem on his standards and won. From then on Constantine

protected and respected Christ’s representatives and teachings. By 325AD papers describe him sick of the small-minded, nit picking, argumentative Christians coming to him with their quarrels and requests. He invited them to meet him at Nicea. All the Bishops of the Eastern and Middle Eastern churches and a few from Europe accepted his invitation. Constantine wanted to end argument over the key doctrines of the church. Some Christians believed that Jesus Christ was entirely distinct and subordinate to God the Father by whom he was begotten. Others argued that together God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit were one God; a Holy Trinity. New Day Herald 35

I had devout parents. One was a Roman Catholic, the other Protestant. From 7 years old I attended a convent school and went to church as an Anglican. It was very confusing. I loved the pomp and ceremony of Latin incense filled Masses but enjoyed the cosy pleasure of Morning Song. I never questioned how the beliefs of those religions were established. When I learned that the process had more in common with a government debating taxes than divine intervention, my blind faith became a questioning attitude that led me eventually to John-Roger and John Morton. The beliefs underlying the Christian Church were agreed at the Council of Nicea, presided over by Constantine. He hosted the Bishops there until they agreed among themselves which documents represented the Christian faith. They wrote the Nicene Creed, the cornerstone of Christian belief,

the centerpiece of the Roman Catholic Mass and Anglican Holy Communion. It was Constantine who introduced the line that Jesus Christ was ‘of one essence with the father’ thus arguing for the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. Arius was the Bishop who unsuccessfully led the opposing argument and was declared a heretic. From then on anyone arguing against the Holy Trinity was thrown out of the Christian church. Arius was excommunicated which meant he was denied the sacraments, his goods and possessions were seized and he was no longer a member of the Christian Church, but his teachings did not die. They morphed over the centuries finding expression in various sects in Bulgaria and other middle Eastern and European areas. The Cathars of the Languedoc were the 11th-13th century followers of the Arian heresy. Cathars sought perfection, vowed poverty and preached.

They questioned whether Christ died on the cross. They claimed there was a single God opposed by a negative force; evil, the Devil; Satan. God created only the good found in a soul. The Devil created this world of matter and time. On our journey those ideas seemed to parallel the difference between my inner and outer worlds. My Inner World was the quietness of my being; my consciousness of a spiritual me where I rested in SE’s, or drifted when the Traveler spoke and where thoughts of J-R were vividly real. My Outer World was about being on time for a succession of coaches, eating good food, occasionally drinking a glass of wine, laughing a lot with good people while unchecked my reactions to that material world could shift me emotionally in minutes from joy to utter negativity and back again. The Cathars lived by example a tolerant and disciplined life, but the sect was declared heretic in 1022. They were to “be imprisoned and their property confiscated”. Almost two hundred years later they were living in their thousands in the Languedoc region of France. Pope Innocent III decided to protect the dogma of the Roman Church by eradicating the heresy. He sent in the Inquisition to root out and burn the heretics..

nity they prayed, aspiring to a life of contemplation leading to the inner self. They believed souls which were not purified before death had to pass through other incarnations to achieve reunion with God. And so John Morton, the Traveler, led us through many Christian Churches and cathedrals and Cathar citadels until we reached Montsegur and climbed its steep stony paths. It was sobering standing on those heights imagining the Croyants holding 10,000 men at bay while Parfaits prayed. After the surrender, the Pope offered conversion or death. All the Parfaits chose to burn rather than deny their beliefs. We left the harsh reality of religious controversy among the orchids of that field. We moved on to Moissac for PAT 8. Once there we met Mr Simon and learned how his parents and the townspeople successfully protected hundreds of Jewish children from the Nazis. Another story of people positively emerging from persecution for their culture and beliefs.

It was a relief to turn to the PAT 8 retreat with its offer of re-entry to an Inner Self, its challenge to shake off the outer world and forget that which is past while sitting on a hard chair in a pleasant hotel. The invitation of PAT 8 is to dwell in Christ, unfettered by religious convention. The Cathars had two levels of membership Parfaits and Croyants. Parfaits or Perfect ones had no sexual relations, were vegetarian, prayed before taking any action, did not travel or eat alone, promised to neither kill nor avoid death by betraying their faith. Their sacrament was called the Consolamentum in which they swore to uphold their beliefs even unto death. Their work was prayer and preaching. They would not fight. The Croyants or Believers did not swear the oath. They led more ordinary lives. They were foot soldiers, the supporters of the Cathar Parfaits. As a commu@msiaorg

DOING SPIRITUALLY, AND HOW THAT MANIFESTED.” NDH: What’s it like working with J-R? Nat Sharratt: He told me what he told others as well, that living and working with him is like living on the side of a volcano. There’s a lot of shaking. It’s an extraordinary experience. I’ve had some time to reflect on it, and to experience what it’s not like to live and work with J-R physically, since he passed. For my whole adult life—for seventeen years—I was there with him. There’s no one I’ve met yet who’s anywhere near J-R in terms of his loving, his awareness. Plus he’s a really fun guy. He’s the best friend I could ever have hoped for. Working with him tested me beyond the level I thought I could go. It tested all boundaries and limits. When I first came on staff at seventeen, J-R was working to clear whatever genetics, psychic genetics, and thinking patterns I came in with, so that I could be more available to the light. I don’t know how to explain it, but he had a way of breaking through all the limitations, the conditions that had built up in my consciousness so I could be a greater conduit, a great battery of light for him in his work. So I’d say my time on staff evolved, at least in what it meant for me, how it looked, and what my participation was. But through the evolution J-R

@msiaorg

always held the loving focus of Spirit. It was very clear being on staff that the primary focus was the work he was doing spiritually, and how that manifested physically. You really didn’t want to get in the way of his work. That was part of being on the edge of the volcano. Your personality can be imperfect and you constantly need work, and you can get into your own stuff, your own karma. If that started affecting the work it was a very unpleasant experience. He was very demanding in terms of the focus, which was loving, and the work of the spirit. It was mostly an internal thing, although of course it would manifest outwardly in your behavior. But if you let something get between you and J-R inside of you, or you and your loving inside of you, that was a problem, and you would start getting the negative feedback. Being on staff, J-R would deliver your karma to you personally. And he did it in a way that was really gentle—although if your karma wasn’t gentle it wouldn’t always feel that way. But now having time to reflect and time to experience other ways in which the karma can come to me in this world, I can see that it was a very loving way to get the lessons that I needed.

NDH: How did that kind of thing manifest?

There was a point where I was dealing with anger inside of me. I don’t remember exactly the thing Nat: It manifested in simple that sparked it. But I may have ways. I’d be driving with J-R, or gotten angry at J-R, or at someone even if I was driving by myself, I’d else, and let it go too far inside of come home and he’d say, “You’re me. J-R tried to work with me on it driving too fast,” or, “You’re not a number of times but I obviously paying attention.” He would tell wasn’t learning the lesson, so he me that a number of times and said, “Now you get that karma then at some point he’d say, and you get to learn about anger.” “I’ve told you, and obviously you It took me years to deal with don’t want the information, you the emotions of anger in all the want the experience. There’s different ways, and not let it get in nothing I can do now because the way of my loving. I remember I’ve told you what to do.” And it the point where, a few years later, I wouldn’t be too long before I’d got really really angry at someone get in an accident. and I was in the middle of it. I was

flipping out, not just inside but outwardly. I was yelling and going nuts. J-R said, “Stop it and get in the car.” So I stopped it and got in the car. And I stopped it inside me too. I took control of it. I thought I was going to be in trouble or that J-R was going to ball me out, but instead he said, “I’m really proud of how you handled that.” That was the point that I recall that the karma shifted. It wasn’t that I didn’t get angry again, it was that I didn’t give it authority over me. I have journals and journals of all the different ways I worked out my karma, with J-R guiding me through it all. Even though there were situations like that one where he gave me the karma to deal with, he was holding back so much of the karma. And he worked it so much with me. But there were those times when I had to work it myself, and I don’t think I was the quickest of students. There are just so many ways that you could be tested, because J-R was such a light that he was always being hit at. The negative power would do anything to get to J-R and to affect his work. And it would use the weakest link, so any of us who were close to J-R would be called into a very high standard of impeccability, because the negative power would go after you to get to J-R. So there was a lot of learning how to stay clear and stay loving and move off of these issues that you would otherwise have. It brought forward a lot of internal discipline. In MSIA, there were always petty tyrants around that J-R would allow to run out their behaviors on everyone else. That was a big

That’s was the body, but in another one thing I really miss, is that I’d sense the body was a focal point get worked up about something for the consciousness to work in that was going on in life on quite and through. To me there was a regular basis, and I’d just go to a definite presence with the J-R and tell him what I thought body, and to be in his vicinity about what was going on. And by physically, you could feel that the the time I got done talking to him, consciousness that was using he’d pulled the energy off me, and that body was there in a more I felt fine and it was like, “Well, um, concentrated way. that the negativity almost didn’t exist around him. It’s like he had no place to hold the negativity so it can’t exist around him. It can’t get in—but “getting in” is the wrong term. It’s like to him it doesn’t exist. And so the closer you get to that body the closer you are to that place where the negativity doesn’t exist. And so there are certain things that couldn’t come into the planet just because that body was on the planet. But what’s weird is that level is also an illusion because there’s another level where he hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s a total paradox. It’s almost impossible to talk about. Nat: I think anything about the spirit is impossible to talk about. NDH: So everything I say about that body is true, and the negativity can’t come around that body, and there’s a level where that’s still going on. But I only have access to it to the extent that I believe it and practice attuning to it. Sometimes I have access to it and sometimes I don’t. Nat: I think a lot of it is what point of view you’re looking from. The biggest garbage dump, if you’re floating up in space, might look like paradise. So it just depends on where you’re looking at it from. And being multidimensional you get those paradoxes. So you see it one way when you’re looking at it here, and you see it another way when you’re looking from another level. There’s that story that J-R tells of when he was in the higher realms agreeing to msia.org

paradoxes. Because how do you fit into a planet like this? You have to appear imperfect to be here, so you have to take on karmas of this level in order to be here. It doesn’t matter how high of a consciousness you are. You have to fit into how it’s done here.

In a way when the negativity came against J-R, it was kind of a mistake for the negativity because usually it would end up not working out for the negativity. Because J-R had such a purity of spirit working with him, the negativity would have to be converted or changed to a more positive thing. New Day Herald 49

NDH: So how has your life been different since J-R has been gone? Nat: It’s really been a process. Physically it’s completely different. Before I was living this very ordinary but very extraordinary life. And now I’d say I’m living just an ordinary life of an initiate. It’s been a really difficult process to let go and accept and cooperate with what this world is now for me. To me being with J-R was like being at the pinnacle of what I would want to be doing in life. Now, for the moment at least, my path is living an ordinary life of working out there in the world to pay the bills. So it’s been kind of difficult internally to accept. I’ve found that people out there in the world have priorities that are very different from how I’ve been raised by J-R. There’s a lot of wanting to get ahead or one-up someone else. There’s this whole idea that you have to compete with people. And then there are a lot of things that are driving people out there…money, acknowledgment. Not that it doesn’t drive us all in some ways, but having been with J-R so long, the primary focus was the loving and the spiritual work. That’s definitely not what I’m finding in the people that I work with out in the world. Their priorities are very different.

NDH: I think that the only way I’ve been able to handle it is to still think of myself as working for J-R. Otherwise I have no motivation. Even if I’m inventing it.

for him that was awakened in me. To me that was one of the most beautiful, amazing experiences of just being with J-R. And there’s a lot of romance to it too, being in the old city of Jerusalem, with all the lifetimes that we’ve had, sitting there looking at the old city walls and talking about nothing important, really, but just talking. There was this time in England when we were going to visit crop circles with dowsing rods, finding out which ones were real, and what they were all about. There was a nighttime excursion to look for UFO’s, and everyone got off the bus except for J-R and me and maybe one other person. Everyone else went up on this long hike at night, and of course it was J-R and me who ended up seeing the UFO. I always got a kick out of that, because everyone went looking and the ones who weren’t looking were the ones who found it. There are some things that just pop into my mind sometimes about J-R. When he was having to deal with entities and metaphysical things of that nature, his body odor would start to smell like chicken soup. So you’d always know, when you smelled that, that J-R was dealing with that metaphysical stuff. So all these kind of random memories about things pop into my mind. I remember in China, we were at one of those big koi ponds, and J-R was showing us and John how to call the fish over. He’d move his hand a certain way and all the fish would start migrating to J-R. He was always teaching us how to do interesting things. I think about New Day Herald 51

that story a lot when I’m surfing and there are all these dolphins around, and I try it. You know, even though I was physically close to J-R there was still a lot of mystery. A lot of his time was spent helping people by taking on their stuff. He would tell you that there’s an initiate who was dealing with—name any number of health conditions— and he was working that through. And sometimes you’d see the email or hear the story later and realize that was the person, and they’d tell you that it wasn’t as bad as they initially thought, or some miracle took place, or things changed, or it was in remission, and you’d get that verification of what he was telling you. And sometimes you never knew what he was talking about. It was the same with earth changes or political things. He would work on bringing the light into areas in a planetary way as well. And there were many times when he’d be in a whole other universe, working out of the body. I tend to be a skeptical person, so if I hadn’t had these experiences where he’d take me places spiritually, or I would see the results, it might be hard to understand what all that meant. And there are lots of things I still don’t understand, but there are enough things that are really far out there that I have experiences of, so that I get a sense of what he was about. When he’d move an earthquake it was really interesting because he’d not be feeling well and he’d tell us we’re going for a drive. He’d say go here, go there, turn here, sometimes 52 New Day Herald

driving all night, (maybe stopping at a doughnut place along the way). He’d take off and go out of the body, and on the CD player is the latest SAT CD (Soul Awareness seminar) that he’s clearing, and you’re the guy driving, trying to stay awake and alert all night long. My experience was that when J-R would take off out of the body, he’d pull whoever was around out with him. It was hard to stay in your body and drive with all that. Then you’d get back home, and some of the times he’d tell you what he was doing, that he moved an earthquake, and then the next day in the news there would be an earthquake in some far-off location. That kind of thing happened enough, where you have those direct correlations, and it’s more than just a story you’re hearing, because you see the direct cause and effect. Those kinds of things were just part of what we were doing when we were with J-R. I’m sure the other staff guys have similar stories to tell. I remember we used to play golf, and each of us had different personalities in the way we approached the game. J-R was a real jokester. He would talk during your backswing or say little things to get you going. But his golf game was a reflection of a lot of things that he did. He didn’t drive it really far, and he didn’t have the best anything, but he would almost always be right down the middle. Most of us would either hit it really hard and be searching for it in the bushes, or we’d get all grouchy about something, and there’d always be some drama

going on, reflecting someone’s personality. But J-R would just be right down the middle, not the furthest, but on the green, and every hole was just complete consistency—and he’d have a lot of fun. That’s what I loved about J-R. He loved a good joke. Before there was a Facebook he had the J-R “All list” and any funny joke that would be sent to him, he’d send to his “All list.” Whatever we were doing, he’d try to have the most fun he could, given the situation. In MSIA lore, the bar fight that we got into in Texas is famous. We were in this steak house, we were watching a Laker playoff game which we had arranged to watch with the restaurant management, and this group of inebriated twenty or thirty-something Irish guys started trying to provoke us because they wanted to watch something different on the TV. They were heckling John Morton and saying some really nasty things. One of them came up behind John and clocked him in the head with a wine bottle. J-R was halfway there by the time I had gotten out of my seat. J-R would have been in his mid to late sixties at this point, and going up against these pretty fit guys in their twenties. John had two guys on him so I went over trying to stop one of them, and managed to lend a helping hand...or fist to be more precise. I turned around and J-R had already taken down one of the other guys and was on the ground with him—and let’s just say J-R was winning. I picked J-R off the ground and I don’t remember the exact words but J-R was not happy with what I’d done getting in the way. I knew this was msia.org

a bad situation, even though we were winning at this point. (John was handling the other guy who hit him with the wine bottle just fine and J-R was handling the guy on the ground, and the second guy I got off John seemed to have been handled enough.)

add to the humor and irony of the situation—and I remember how as we were going to the hospital with John, J-R was talking about how we needed to shift the experience internally and immediately let go of all the charge and negativity, bring the loving in, and disperse the energy, and not go back into it. I don’t recall the words he used, but that’s my best memory of what I think he was saying. Later on we heard some friends of ours were in another part of the restaurant, and heard the young guys talking to the cops, pointing at J-R, and trying to blame him for hurting them, and the cops were looking at this old guy in disbelief going, “Really? You guys are saying this guy was going after you?”

I just looked at J-R, and said, “I’m getting you out of here now.” I just picked him up and ran out. By that time, the fight was pretty much over, and the cops were there shortly. I’m glad to this day that I didn’t listen to him and got him out, because even in his mid to late sixtes, you didn’t want to mess with J-R. It was my job (as well as the other guys) to protect J-R’s body, even if it meant paying a price and I couldn’t risk something happening to him even though he was strong as a bull, and so fast. We had just come It’s so much fun to say I was in a bar fight with the Travelers. What from a peace fundraiser—to @msiaorg

made J-R such a good friend is that he wasn’t afraid to get into anything to help you. That extends into being a Traveler. Initiates over the years have gone into some pretty dark places. J-R says the Traveler stands with one foot in the light and one foot in the dark, and it crosses both sides, positive and negative. I’ve never known J-R as being afraid to get his hands dirty, or to go to whatever level of consciousness he needs to go if someone needs help. So there’s no way that he would just sit there while four or five guys went after John. J-R had John’s back, and that’s the kind of friend and Traveler that he was and is. It wasn’t about what people would think of J-R being in a barroom brawl. He was going to back up his friend. You don’t want to fight, but if you have to, you go there. New Day Herald 53

I always found that in my worst situations J-R was always there with me. Even when I may have failed or fallen, J-R had my back, no matter what. He’s even talked about how he’s gone into some really negative levels of consciousness, or the “hells,” to get an initiate. It’s like the story of Jesus with the lost sheep. But he also had a way of getting out and shifting it so that once it’s done, it’s done. You don’t keep that going, and that’s what he was doing after the fight, getting us to let go of it and go back to the loving. You didn’t want to mess with J-R. There was a part of J-R that was like an old cowboy from a movie. One time we were in a theater and there was a guy sitting behind us getting irate about something. It just happened so fast. Before you knew it J-R was over there, with his hand on the guy’s shoulder, saying, “You need to settle down, sir.” When you feel the power that’s behind J-R’s voice, it’s shocking. He didn’t do anything violent, it was just the power coming from him. Never heard another peep out of the guy. Then J-R turned right back around as if nothing had happened. That was the brilliance of J-R, that he could bring that energy in, and he could switch at the snap of the fingers. He could very forcefully tell one staff member, “Stop that!” and then turn to another one and pop off a little joke. He was just so quick, there was nothing he was holding inside of himself. It’s interesting that we’re doing this interview a year after J-R passed. It’s just so surreal to me @msiaorg

that it’s been a year. In some ways it feels like a whole other lifetime that I lived, and in some ways it feels like it was yesterday. I can be driving down the road and there’s a thing inside me that thinks I can just call J-R right now, or I’m going to see him physically in a few minutes. It’s a set of strange, contradictory, opposing feelings at the same time. It feels like so far away and yet so close. There are so many little things that I recall that reveal how masterful he was. We used to get travel books with all the details we needed for our trips. He would get the travel book and thumb through it quickly, not really reading it, and he would stop right on the place where there was a mistake or missing information. It was like someone told him where the mistakes were. Within a couple of seconds he’s gone through thirty pages and was at the one place where there was a problem. He’d call up the travel person (which was Brooke at that time) and say, “It says this, this, this,” and she’d say, “Oh that’s wrong.” It was just little things like that all the time. They aren’t earth-shatteringly extraordinary, but just so frequent that it’s different from anyone I’ve known. When I first got on staff I was a teenager and I had zits. I don’t know how I figured out how he could do this, but he could put his finger on it and by the next day it would go away. So I’d get a zit and go up to J-R and say, “Could you put your finger on it and make it go away?” Or if you got injured he could just

heal it. Once at a retreat I twisted my ankle, and told him my ankle really hurt. He just touched my third eye and I felt the energy just rush through, and my ankle was better. He didn’t take credit, he just said, “the Christ did that.” I saw him do it with a lot of people, just take away pain in their body. He was the magic man. They’re all little things that seem so ordinary when you’re with him because he does them all the time. I don’t know anyone else who does that just as an ordinary process of living. He didn’t make a big deal out of it, which I so appreciated. It was like shaking someone’s hand or something. It was so normal and ordinary to heal people. We saw a movie with him, “Mr. Deeds,” with Adam Sandler. There was a line in that movie where somebody explains how he does so many things unnoticed—”I’m very very shneaky [sic].” There was a time when J-R was using that line all the time to explain what he was doing. He was doing all these magical things under the radar. You’d ask him how he did it and he’d just say with a smirk, “I’m very, very shneaky.” Nobody realized it wasn’t a big deal because J-R wasn’t making a big deal about it. He loved movies. And when TiVo came out that was popular at the house. I don’t know how we watched so much because he’d be working until three or four in the morning, then he’d get up and go to breakfast, and have a meeting, and then we’d see some healer, and then we’d see a movie, and then he’d do a seminar…. New Day Herald 55

It was like he was always working. But he fit in a lot of play as well, a lot of movies and a lot of fun stuff. It was really nonstop. He had so much energy. Even when I was young, when I was a teenager or in my early twenties and had tons of energy, he told me, “Don’t try to keep up with me because you won’t be able to.” I did try and I failed. No one could keep up at his pace. Whatever energy was sustaining him and working through him gave him so much, so he could be constantly working, moving, traveling, and working on himself in between it all. Even when he’d see a healer, it was almost like he was working on them at the same

time, helping them get better at what they were doing. Then the healer would get good enough and J-R would send other people to them. He would help everyone who was open to be helped. He was constantly looking for new inventions, new healing devices, new technology. He’d see something, order it, and it wouldn’t be too long before someone would ask about it in a seminar and he’d tell them about it. He really was the spiritual scientist that he was teaching us to be, and when he found what worked he would share it with everyone. That’s just how he was.

Home Seminars The world record

for the largest MSIA home seminar has been set. Over 150 people showed up on October 27 and were amazed by a John-Roger video seminar from the late 70’s in a remote cabin in Alaska that had no electricity. It was recorded on a battery-powered video camera, and the participants were just a handful of people, including a young John Morton. Most of the seminar was John-Roger counseling one person who shared, and it included psychological insights that reveal why he was the founder of one of the country’s foremost schools of spiritual psychology (USM). Of course this massive gathering in October wasn’t the typical MSIA 58 New Day Herald

by Matt VanFossan home seminar. First, it was held at 2101 Wilshire Blvd, which isn’t technically a home. Second, it was led by Traveler John Morton on his birthday. That explains the unusually large and festive turnout, but there’s a lot more to the home seminar story. “I really enjoyed the seminar on John’s birthday,” says Laren Bright. “It was funny how people clapped after the contributions. They don’t typically do that.” Laren knows a little bit about the subject as he hosts one of the longest running home seminars going in the Movement. He started it back in 1972 in Miami and he and his wife, Penelope, host a seminar

msia.org

every Thursday night at their home in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles. He says, “The Movement, the real foundation of the Movement, was built around the country and around the world at home seminars. Before there was Insight, before there was USM, and even before there was a fully functioning PTS, there were home seminars bringing hundreds and hundreds of people into the Light.” Laren describes how Miami became a thriving MSIA community built by an assortment of people who decided to open their homes to spiritual seekers. One of the first of those people was Rama Fox. “Rama started giving them, and people would come in droves. I remember she had maybe 60 - 80 people at her home in Coconut Grove on a Friday night. She was a model back then and I think some people came just because of her. We were all so open and loving at the seminars and some people took advantage of that. I remember at one point someone started raiding her refrigerator. It got so bad, she finally had to chain it shut. But aside from good-looking women and free snacks, people were earnestly seeking the Light. And they found it again and again in home seminars. Seminars are so simple that we overlook how much power they have. People forget the power and opportunity of contributions.”

@msiaorg

Laren describes how over the years he’s seen new people come into the seminar and put in the Light some of their greatest challenges, along with some of their most hard-won lessons. “People would say, ’I had a moment where it was difficult and this is what I learned.’ And someone else would say, ‘Gee I’m glad you shared that, you’ve really given me a key.’ Not that anyone came to teach, but it was like that. And over and over, different people would end up saying the same thing: ‘Boy, the light really works!’ It almost became a running joke because sooner or later, everybody would say it. The light really works!” Zoe Lumiere, an MSIA staff member who focuses on communications for the Movement, has been playing with how to make home seminars even more accessible. Recently, when she asked John Morton about varying the format, he said that the important thing was to make sure people got to hear or see a Traveler and be exposed to the teachings. Laren has a similar point of view. He relates that while making sure to include the key elements, he doesn’t follow a script. He stays as present and spontaneous as possible to allow Spirit to work through him. “At one seminar, contributions just kept going and the energy got higher and higher and we didn’t even play the tape because the thing kept going. That only happened one time in all the years I’ve been doing it, but the energy was unforgettable.”

“People would say, ‘I had a moment

where it was difficult and this is what I learned.’ And someone else would say, ‘Gee I’m glad you shared that, you’ve really given me a key.’ Not that anyone came to teach, but it was like that. And over and over, different people would end up saying the same thing: ‘Boy, the light really works!’ It almost became a running joke because sooner or later, everybody would say it. The light really works!”

New Day Herald 59

And Laren says he’s always amazed by what bits and pieces float to the surface for him to share about MSIA from the vast realm of possible ways to introduce it. Spirit seems to be guiding him to share what is relevant to the people present.

Whatever its

format, a home seminar is important in that it promotes small groups of people getting together and then building a sense of family or community around that Light action. As Laren describes, “Seminars really are community. At our seminar, the tape is usually over by 9 o’clock but people tend to sit around and talk. And that’s as integral to the overall experience as the tape.”

The basic home seminar format starts with calling in the Light, followed by contributions. Everyone who’s present is encouraged to put their name in the Light and, if they wish, to share awarenesses they’ve had or experiences they’d like the Light to work with. Then a Traveler recording is played for the remainder of the seminar. J-R has observed that this recording clears karma for people. It also can knock them right out only to have them wake up after the “Baruch Bashan,” a little dazed and a lot happier. This basic seminar format is by no means inflexible. Laren says, “I started doing a guided meditation after calling in the light during my seminars. I felt okay doing that because, at a retreat in Florida one year, I was leading a spontaneous meditation and J-R later told me he had come into the room during it and it was really nice. So I just ran with that at our seminars to give people an experience as well as information.” Another variation on the home seminar format is to put a series of Traveler meditations together to fill the space of an hour or so. This is now a bi-weekly event at Prana called “Sacred Tones,” and while this format is technically a PTS class, not a home seminar, it accomplishes the same objective: it helps lift negativity and exposes people to the Traveler’s teachings. Whatever its format, a home seminar is important in that it promotes small groups of people getting together and then building a sense of family or community around that Light action. As Laren describes, “Seminars really are community. At our seminar, the tape is usually over by 9 o’clock but people tend to sit around and talk. And that’s as integral to the overall experience as the tape.” This fellowship is sort of available at a live Traveler sharing but it’s different because live Traveler events are big and more formal. Home seminars are really grassroots and family.

Most home seminars are held on a weekly basis. J-R has emphasized the importance of showing up regardless of who else is present. Even if the host is watching the recording alone they are being of service by keeping the Light action going from week to week and they are still getting the benefit of the Light. And who knows who’s showing up on the other realms to participate? Of course, if seminars are going to grow, people must do their part to invite others to come: “Hey, there’s a seminar next Tuesday. Can you come with me?” Danielle Peterson used this approach with a friend of hers whom she brought to a Tuesday night home seminar at Prana that Danielle herself hosts one night a month. She says she’s invited other friends who were too busy or lived too far away, but this particular friend was open to it. She was going through cancer at the time and perhaps this life challenge opened her to trying something uniquely healing. Meanwhile, Zoe has been working on new ways to invite people to home seminars. She has helped create a Facebook group where seminar leaders can post information about their seminars. She is also creating an updated flyer template that seminar leaders can use to print off and

@msiaorg

put up at their favorite coffee shop. Finally, Zoe is hosting a monthly video call with seminar leaders around the country where they support each other in building active home seminars. She says, “I think it’s great that people can do things online, but what’s beautiful about home seminars is that people get together in person.” And the author of this article is doing his part, too. I’ve been holding the focus for the Tuesday night seminars at Prana. I’ll soon begin calling visitors to the labyrinth and gardens to personally invite them to come join the seminar party. But seminars are not just for newbies. Having a battery of initiates and ministers at a seminar is not only a tremendous blessing, it makes the night a lot of fun. If you have a free night in your week, I invite you to find a seminar to join. Or start one of your own. Just make sure you chain your refrigerator shut before sixty people show up looking for snacks.

This fellowship is sort of available at a

live Traveler sharing but it’s different because live Traveler events are big and more formal. Home seminars are really grassroots and family.

By the time “Lab” finished in 2015 (my first year in the University of Santa Monica year one course in Spiritual Psychology) I had many experiences of John-Roger coming into my consciousness and letting me see some things since his passing. I saw I needed to travel and I got very strongly inside that I must be in Israel with my partner Nicole. One of my dreams was that while John Morton traveled in France during PAT 8 we would be in Israel/ Jerusalem. I got that we would be screening the Mystical Traveler film (a documentary on J-R) in Tel Aviv on 9/24, J-R’s 81st birthday, and sharing a J-R Marathon of 9 hours of non-stop J-R seminars on 9/26. I asked and I received a lot of help. Thanks to all that gave their light, love and donations that made this dream come true. We traveled to Israel to celebrate J-R’s 81st Birthday. September 24th was approaching, almost one year since JohnRoger’s passing into Spirit, and I must say it’s been difficult. There he would be. Last year in Jerusalem was a spectacular moment in time, unforgettable. J-R was alive then, surrounded by 141 souls loving each other. The three day fundraiser with John Morton, Michael Hayes, myself, Benji Shavit (who was our guide in Israel on so many PAT IV tours with J-R) and MSIA President Paul Kaye, was transcendent and we were in one accord. This trip was the first of many to come where I wasn’t thinking of getting back to J-R to see how he’s doing. It’s like J-R is with me allowing me to enjoy fully and not worry about getting back to the hotel to care for him. It’s a hard habit to let down. I felt him young inside and showing me where to go. If I tried to recapture him in those old places he would not be there. Maybe it’s the same with the Christ. “Here and Now.” He’s in the here and now. I give that title credit to Ram Dass as I stole it lovingly from him. I kept hearing “Here and Now.” Be here. It was graceful when we arrived and for the most part it was smooth. 9/24, and that same night we celebrated J-R, overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem on the rooftop of Notre Dame Hotel. We skyped with John Morton and the J-R Legacy Tour in France, and the energies seemed to line up in a vortex, or ley lines, between Europe and the Middle East. It felt like we were transported to J-R’s universes. Some divine connection took place. On 9/26 we would hold nine hours of non-stop John-Roger seminars at Zahava’s Yoga Studio Called “Spirit of Tabor.” Benji Shavit, Gilad (Benji’s son) and Mia (Gilad’s girlfriend) all helped to set the stage for this great event honoring him. Many people came to the Mystical Traveler screening, about 60 new folks, and 10 people at the J-R Marathon in Tabor. We headed to the newly discovered first century synagogue in Magdala. I encourage folks to google it. This Synagogue indicates that Jesus and Mary Magdalene might have prayed or taught there off the shores of Galilee in Magdala. Thank you John-Roger for Nicole and for taking care of us. Much thanks to the Donors, John Morton and The Prez (the MSIA Presidency). We may find ourselves thinking, feeling, and doing things that we cannot explain or experiencing illness or pain with an unknown cause. The vastness of the unconscious is impossible to fully explore. It marks the division between our walking awareness and our true spiritual nature, and to become aware of our Soul, we have to cross that line into the unconscious. As we do so, we lose something of our daylight awareness. That is why so many people talk about their spiritual nature but so few are aware of it as a living experience.”—John-Roger, DSS

We all have our own ways

of dealing with challenging times. I often share with my parents – I’m grateful to have loving parents who support me unconditionally and I often feel better after hearing their support and suggestions. However, sometimes verbalizing my experience adds energy to the negativity that is already past. So a few months ago, I tried something different. I went home after a frustrating day, sat down, called in the Light, and wrote for 15 minutes without pausing. A remarkable thing happened. After the first one or two minutes of writing, the negativity had lost all its energy. I expected the negative thoughts to rush out of me like a swollen river during a flood; I had hours of “stinking thinking” from the day to release. But I could not sustain the negative feelings – it took too much effort! Within minutes, I was laughing at myself; starting to feel grateful for my life; thinking that things really were pretty good! I continued writing for the full 15 minutes, but most of the time, I was writing neutral observations, or positive thoughts. I had a nice conversation with my parents after my session, feeling the need to share nothing with them but my positivity.

Writing

A Remarkable Thing

“For years, I have used freeI was experiencing a lot of challenges at my job a few weeks later. My parents were traveling, so I could not talk to them about my frustrations at the end of each day. Instead, I did free-form writing, and was able to release negativity on my own. One night during this period, I couldn’t fall asleep – thoughts and concerns about my work and the next day wouldn’t stop! After an hour, I got up and did 15 minutes of free form writing. I went back to bed, and quickly fell asleep. Free form writing seems to work like magic – releasing negativity and almost instantly flipping my attitude to the positive. And while I often feel drained when I get home from work, I feel calm and energized by the end of my writing session. I need to allow myself to express negativity, so I can let it go. But discussing my negativity with others seems to be a slower process of release; with free-form writing, it’s just gone. It reminds me of something I heard in a J-R excerpt. To paraphrase: instead of working on “letting go” of something, just “drop it” like a “hot potato.” You don’t let go of a hot potato; you just drop it.

Free Form Writing A Guide for Clearing the Consciousness

by John-Roger, DSS

From Spiritual Warrior: The Art of Spiritual Living 1. Find a quiet place and sit down with a ballpoint pen and paper. I also recommend that you light a candle because as you write, emotional negativity may come up and release into the room. Since it tends to go towards flame, having a lit candle may keep the room clear and the negativity away from you. 2. Allow a thought into your mind and transfer it into the pen and onto the paper. You may not even finish a sentence before the next thought comes up. For example the thought “go to the restaurant together” arises. As you write “go to the,” you may have another thought, so you start to write that next thought. You do not need to finish the first one. The next word or thought that comes up may be “help,” and you may write “hlp”. That is fine because you know what you mean by it and you do not have to worry about spelling or punctuation. But do not write in shorthand because that was not the form through which the thoughts and images lodged into your subconscious or unconscious. It is important that you do not do free-form writing on a computer or a typewriter, since typing it does not carry the same impact and there may be too much negative energy releasing for the type-writer or computer to handle. Also, do not do free-form writing on a chalkboard or white board and then erase it. The energy that you released may stay in the board itself.

76 New Day Herald

Free-form writing is a kinesthetic activity. The neural impulses from the fingers are sent back to the brain so that the writing actually releases and records the patterns of the unconscious. I call them the “beach balls”, those things we have suppressed for a long, long time and on which we have expended energy to keep under the surface. They can carry tremendous emotion. So at times you may end up writing very forcefully. That’s why I recommend that you do not write with a pencil: the lead can break and you lose the flow. In some instances, you will find yourself writing as fast as you can, and at other times you will be writing slowly. But throughout this process, you should be writing continuously because there are always thoughts in your mind — and you are to write them down even if they are “I don’t know why I’m doing this. What should I write next? Hmmmm.” And do not be concerned if only “junk” is coming up when you do free-form writing: this means that the free-form writing is working. It is very important when doing free-form writing that you do not just let the pen write. That is automatic writing, a very different process in which you may be giving over your consciousness to something outside of yourself. Free-form writing is stream-of-consciousness writing, where you must just write whatever comes into

msia.org

your mind. You are not giving yourself over to anything in this process because you are in absolute control of what is happening. You also write with the hand that you normally write with, not your other hand; free-form writing is different from the technique of writing with the subdominant hand. 3. When you get through writing, do not read it over. Rip up what you have written and either burn it or flush it down the toilet. Some people still feel the energy of what they have released even after they have burned or flushed the paper on which they did the free-form writing. It is important that you stop the process when you stop the writing. Have a set amount of time to write, and when it is over get up right away, drink some water, move around, burn or flush whatever you have written right afterwards, and go on with something else. Also do not go back in your mind to what you wrote or anything you want through or felt when you wrote it. Let it all go. If you keep the paper, the lower levels of consciousness will hold on to the pattern, and the release will not happen. For the lower consciousness or the subconscious to release and let go of the things it has expressed, that paper must be destroyed. And after you have burned or flushed it, fill the empty space where the images and words were with loving and God. Do spiritual exercises, and allow the healing and the peace of Spirit to fill you.

After you have done free-form writing for any length of time, you may start to get some beautiful inspirational wonderful prose that you may want to keep, but when you are through with your session, you may forget where the beautiful writing was and want to read through what you wrote to find it. Do not do this because the energy and negativity that you released onto the paper can return to you if you reread it. Instead, as you are writing and thoughts are flowing through, take the pieces of paper on which you write the inspirational thoughts and set them aside, separate from the other writing. When you finish your session, rewrite the sections you want to keep. Then you can rip up and burn or flush all the original pages. 4. Never share what you have written with anyone else. 5. Start slowly but work up to writing for at least an hour. Actually two hours per session of free-form writing is optimal. Each person is different, but to notice some real changes, I recommend doing free-form writing for a minimum of three times a week for a minimum of three months. With practice you can get to the point where you can do this in fifteen minutes, but it will probably take you a year or so to get to that point. You can start by doing fifteen minutes at a time; then increase it, the idea being to work up to sessions of one or two hours. Don’t let the fact that two hours is optimal get in your way. As with anything I suggest, try it out as best you can.

plenty about life through death—perhaps because, unconsciously, I remember the title of a tape from my beloved John-Roger that I heard for the first time in 1998. It’s called “Living Through Dying,” a seminar that J-R gave in Chile. Back then, I had only been in MSIA for two years, surprisingly attracted by its energy, after having participated in a few Insight seminars. I was, then, beginning to take my first steps on a spiritual path that, to me, was literally the first I encountered. Never before had I opened up to divine energy. I remember clearly when I heard that seminar. How could I forget? From the first few minutes, I felt tears welling up in my eyes until they burst into thousands, washing down my face. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t stop crying, as if it was something that came from deep within me, and only became stronger. J-R’s voice combined with my sobs, which continued after the tape had finished playing. I had just heard a sharp, clear and outright explanation about death.

msia.org

I sat by (my son) in his bedroom, having promised him that I’d keep our conversation a secret. “Don’t tell my friends, because they’ll think I’ve gone crazy,” he whispered. Then, calmly, with pleasantness, he said, “Mom, please, stop crying. I didn’t suffer at all. I went to a very beautiful place. It was so beautiful that I did not want to come back.

Soon after, in August of that same year, 1988, I replayed J-R’s seminar. This time I was seeking consolation from a profound pain and desolation that had taken over my life. My dear son, Demian, in his 20th year of life, had just transcended to the Spirit, after respiratory failure.

dawn he came back home with us. I felt a mix of emotions, and I could not stop crying. I had seen my son die, and a few hours later, I hugged him while he rested on his bed. That same day, which happened to be my birthday, he said he wished to tell me something, but only to me.

Yes. I was saying goodbye to the physical presence of my first son. I still didn’t have enough spiritual knowledge to avoid feeling as if this was an irreparable tragedy. However, some signs began pointing to the path of acceptance and understanding. Signs that started to appear two months before his passing.

I sat by him in his bedroom, having promised him that I’d keep our conversation a secret. I saw everything like in a movie. I saw my friends, my toys when I was a child, everything… It was a very beautiful place. I didn’t suffer, mom. I also didn’t want to come back. So, stop crying because nothing bad has happened.”

One early morning in June 1998, Demian had a strong asthma attack. In spite of trying, he could not breathe anymore and collapsed. They took him on an ambulance and I, by his side, traveled the miles that separated us from the hospital, whispering in his ear a song that I used to sing to him when he was a baby, asking him to stay, and imploring J-R for help. My son did not react and his skin felt very cold. When we arrived at the hospital, the doctor communicated that that loving child, who would daily manifest his love to me with words and caresses, no longer showed any vital signs. He had died. I screamed and wailed in the arms of my husband. Suddenly, we all saw how Demian sit up on the hospital bed while saying, “Where am I?” Medics and nurses ran to aid him, they gave him a shot, and stabilized him, and almost at

@msiaorg

His tale was like a healing balm for me. I calmed down and placed his words somewhere in my heart. I noticed that, from that day, Demian had become more beautiful, with a softer energy, and a special cadence to his voice and look. I enjoyed him more, day to day, in our daily sharing. Two months later, a night in August 1998, I received a call warning me that my son was in very bad condition. The same event of that June morning was repeating. This time, he was in the company of a few friends. They witnessed his last breath while they drove him to the ER. New Day Herald 83

“There’s nothing we can do now. He definitely died.” The words of my husband resounded in my head, and in that instant, I saw myself small, very small, imprisoned in the immense basement of the universe, while a very clear voice said to me, “you control nothing.” The scene is very clear in my memory, and I can feel its intensity and power each time I remember.

“J-R, I also want to thank you for the support that you gave me during my son’s death,” I added. He was distracted, looking around, and when he heard the last sentence, he fixed his eyes on mine, looking for something. My body shook strongly, as if I had touched an electric wire. A few seconds later, he said smiling, “Oh, yes. I remember. It was terrific!” And he brought his face close to mine to pose for the

From that moment on, a whirlpool of tears, suffering and grief caught me and I just barely felt relief with the company and words of my Minister friends from MSIA, who showed up immediately. That same night, one of them emailed J-R announcing my son’s transcendence. However, the Traveler asked that I, myself, should tell him all the details, and how the process had been. Then, I decided to write everything that had happened two months before, the beautiful rebirth of my son, and about how he eventually departed from this plane. At that time, I was taking the Master of Spiritual Science course that was taught in Colombia. Once a month, along with a small group of MSIA Ministers, I traveled from Venezuela to Bogota, to take classes during the weekend. The class that August would take place only a week after Demian’s farewell. But, I was sure in my heart that I wanted to go to the Master’s class, no matter what it took. And I did. The love I felt during those days was so immense that, for the first time in my life, I believed I was very close to heaven. Paul Kaye and Jesús Becerra as facilitators, and almost 100 participants in the hall, enveloped me in a cloak of light and unity that is difficult to describe. I began, then, my healing and the path that would lead me to the acceptance and understanding of my son’s departure toward Spirit. Months passed and my devotion to J-R’s teaching intensified, as well as a personal search about the meaning of death. A year later, I came to the MSIA Conference in Los Angeles, with a petition from my little son, Edgar Daniel. “Bring me a picture of you with John-Roger,” was his answer when I asked him what gift he wanted me to bring him. And that Saturday night, during the celebration dinner in the conference, I found the precise moment for the picture that you see with this article.

camera, which Magaly had already framed. 84 New Day Herald

J-R walked around tables, greeting and talking with people. Suddenly he stood behind ours, and Magaly Sánchez said, “it’s now or never.” We walked up to him, said hello and I asked for the picture. I remember. It was terrific!” And he brought his face close to mine to pose for the camera, which Magaly had already framed.

Finally, today, seventeen years later, I understand why his departure was “terrific,” and I can thank God for that experience, which has taught me profound lessons in life. I’m still here, without having stopped, in an eternal etcetera, knowing that I am that soul that inhabits my body, and sure of the great reunion we will celebrate when I return to my true home. Thank you, J-R.

My body still shivered when we sat back on the table. I was confused by J-R’s words. I asked Magaly, “Did you hear him say ‘terrific,’ or did I make that up?” Indeed, that was the word he used, and that remained in my head without understanding the meaning he had given to it.

“terrific,” and I can

I grabbed the camera to take other pictures, and I realized that it didn’t work. It was one of the small kind that used film rolls. It didn’t wind or shoot or give any signs that it worked. I could not believe I was going to lose the picture with J-R! So, one of the first things I did when I returned to Venezuela was look for a place where they could fix the camera and save the roll. And certainly, they saved it, but in order to do so, they had to break open the camera. The last picture it captured was the one with J-R, and I keep it like the memento of a magical moment.

Finally, today, seventeen years later, I understand why his departure was thank God for that experience, which has taught me profound lessons in life. I’m still here, without having stopped, in an eternal etcetera, knowing that I am that soul that inhabits my body, and sure of the great reunion we will celebrate when I return to my true home.

Almost ten years after the transcendence of Demian to Spirit, thanks to consistent spiritual work, the light and the Traveler, I began to feel for the first time that there was no pain in my heart or tears in my eyes, when I remembered him or spoke about him.

Meditations 1 Year After J-R’s Passing by Mario Tenaglia

I saw many of my friends and fellow ministers participating in their own searches and achieving their own discoveries. It appears that the playing field has been leveled now that J-R has passed. We are all more powerful in our spiritual gifts and strengths. Each of us is stronger in our Spirit and divine radiance.

86 New Day Herald

It has been a year now since our beloved J-R passed away into Spirit. For me at least, this year since his passing has been nothing short of miraculous, incredible, and totally unexpected. With J-R in particular, my experiences have spanned the gamut of possibilities. I have swung from deep, deep sadness and grief, to denial and refusal to feel, to great joy and elation, to incredible transcendence and oneness, to dire loss and separation. Pretty much all of the major experiences one would expect to feel at the loss of such a close and intimate loved one. In the midst of all these experiences, I found myself searching deeply and looking for him far and wide, and for that personal connection with him I know and love so much. I saw many of my friends and fellow ministers participating in their own searches and achieving their own discoveries. It appears that the playing field has been leveled now that J-R has passed. We are all more powerful in our spiritual gifts and strengths. Each of us is stronger in our Spirit and divine radiance. Looking back now, all the experiences with J-R, even though they may have felt inadequate or incomplete at the time, are now bright beacons of Light, Truth, and Loving. It also seems we are all more dependent upon one another, connected to our fellow brothers and sisters, the sacred act of giving and receiving, and perhaps most importantly to recognizing msia.org

I think that those who knew J-R when we was here physically would agree that we were always being forced to update ourselves to whatever our new relationship was with him. I always felt like I both knew exactly where I stood with J-R while at the same never knowing what the heck he was going to do next with me. And isn’t that one of the most wonderful things we love about him!

our weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and areas of insufficiency. This trifecta of awareness catapults us into a deeper and more meaningful oneness. A togetherness that is more palpable, humbled, and universal. The teachings, more than ever before, are alive within us and all around us, as us. We are John-Roger’s legacy. We the initiates. We the ministers. We that knew him and loved with him. The living, breathing manifestation of his teachings is perhaps the greatest legacy of all. And we can provide that. We can do that. As we all stand taller in our Spirits, as we all reach out in practical and caring ways to help one another, to love, to be, to enlighten the immediate world around us, so too do we stand with J-R, with Jesus, with all the Travelers, and Christed Ones throughout creation. We are all one with God, and it is all so good. We can each carry the torch that is the greatness of J-R on earth and in Spirit. It is within us, we know it, we love it, we yearn and strive for it, we are it. It is all within, and it is all now. I think that those who knew J-R when we was here physically would agree that we were always being forced to update ourselves to whatever our new relationship was with him. I always felt like I both knew exactly where I stood with J-R while at the same never knowing what the heck he was

going to do next with me. And isn’t that one of the most wonderful things we love about him! He was such a unique and special man with a fabulously dynamic spirit and consciousness. Throughout 2015 I felt distant and disconnected from J-R. I couldn’t sense him anywhere or in any of the ways I normally could when he was alive. It was a very unusual and uncomfortable experience for me. I felt like I was floating in an etheric void held above and beyond space and time but also not fully connected to the Spirit that I know and love so much. In an effort to work this out for myself, I began to consider other people close to me that had passed away. I thought of all of my grandparents as well as my Professor, Dr. Richard Tobias, a dear man that I loved discussing literature with while at university. I’ve experienced pain, loss, and grief with these peoples’ passing, and I’ve wished on numerous occasions that I could call them up, share with them, have them over for dinner, but alas they are gone from this level, transcended onward and upwards. But even in the midst of that loss, I still always sensed them, felt them in the Spirit world somehow. I know them and could contact them, and that has been a deep, deep comfort and joy for me here on this earth. I suppose in the Spirit world I know where they are, I’m familiar spiritually with them

New Day Herald 87

and with that terrain and landscape, and I can contact and connect to them with relative ease and grace. So then I considered my relationship with J-R and his passing. Yes I have definitely felt the loss, grief, and sadness of his passing, but I wasn’t able to easily connect up to him in the Spirit world like I could with my other close loved ones.

I came to the realization that J-R was at a level in Spirit that I had not fully explored, so I was not able to really access or connect with him. And unlike when he had his physical body, he wasn’t really “bending down” to lend me a helping hand either; I had to step up to him, fully with great humbleness as well as with bold conviction. So I immediately set an intention— I intend to grow spiritually to meet up with J-R. And bam! Just like that -

As I meditated upon this, I came to the realization that J-R was at a level in Spirit that I had not fully explored, so I was not able to really access or connect with him. And unlike when he had his physical body, he wasn’t really “bending down” to lend me a helping hand either; I had to step up to him, fully with great humbleness as well as with bold conviction. So I immediately set an intention— I intend to grow spiritually to meet up with J-R. And bam! Just like that - there he was again! Haha! I couldn’t believe it! It was (and frankly still is) a Christmas miracle (pun intended)! High up in the glorious realms of Spirit, there he be, that which is, radiant and bright, fully alive, and of course dancing, laughing, and smiling all the while too. And Jesus is there as well, beside us both. The great Lord of Lords. A Master Traveler, along with J-R. The Christ Being here with all of us, radiant and one, united through Love, through God, through Being and genuine Joy. There is an ever-expanding nature about J-R, about the Christ, about Jesus’s great love. It’s as if we are on an elevator or a conveyor belt that is forever moving upward, inward, further out beyond all breaches of God’s Domain. And here we are, J-R’s initiates, directly plugged in to all of this—all that we are, all that he is, all that is available to us with the Spirit. It is equally important to note that things are not always peaches and cream now either. There are still days when I miss him deeply, where I’m brought nearly to tears with big lumps in my throat. These feelings appear to rise up in me particularly when I’m confused, feeling insecure, all alone in this wide world, or out of balance. It’s really in those darker times, when the shadows leer over me, that I miss him most, and want to just be able to know he’s here.

His teachings, which really are our teachings now, have even more significance as a direct means to connect to him, to participate in the Christ Action, to remember to the Traveler Consciousness, and the True Self within. We are all one with J-R within, and the more we can live and experience the Light, the Love, the Sound that is God, the more too do we get him, and all that we love about him. I am so grateful to J-R. . .

@msiaorg

To be frank, I am not really one of those people that experiences J-R everywhere, all the time, and in all things now that he’s passed. I really do sense a loss with his passing; that whatever he was doing on this planet while he was here, it’s just not happening anymore like it used to since he’s passed from this level. In a very practical way, he’s gone, and I feel his absence most particularly when I’m down myself. It seems to me that now more than ever J-R is inextricably linked to me from the inside. As he would say so often, “If you feel separate from the Traveler, guess who moved?” So we are one now more than ever. As I go to him in Spirit, so too do I find him everywhere. When I go down, so too do I feel lost and forlorn. Really, my relationship to J-R is, even more than ever before, a reflection of my own relationship with myself, with life, with whatever and whoever is present with me.

His teachings, which really are our teachings now, have even more significance as a direct means to connect to him, to participate in the Christ Action, to re-member to the Traveler Consciousness, and the True Self within. We are all one with J-R within, and the more we can live and experience the Light, the Love, the Sound that is God, the more too do we get him, and all that we love about him. I am so grateful to J-R for everything he’s done for me, for himself, and for so, so many of us in so, so many ways. Dear Lord, I thank you! And please keep me close to J-R, to Jesus, to You Dear Lord. Thank you. I love you. God bless you.

of World Religions was held in Salt Lake City Utah from July 15th to 19th. The theme of this sixth Parliament was “Reclaiming the Heart of Our Humanity.” It was attended by approximately 9,500 people representing over 55 faiths. John Morton & Leigh Taylor-Young Morton and seven other ministers: Candy & Stu Semigran, Ezra Mack, Kate Ferrick-Klein & Richard Klein and Laura & Andrew Munts were in attendance representing MSIA.

The Parliament began for the first time ever with a women’s plenary during the day prior to the evening’s grand opening ceremony. This focused on faith in women, women’s dignity, and human rights, bringing together divers female religious leaders to address the vital nexus of women and religion.

The evening opening ceremony was attended by Ezra, Kate & Richard. We began by calling in the light in our own little group of three, asking for blessings of peace and harmony to be present in the hearts of all attendees, and all involved in the Parliament. The ceremony then started with a colorful procession prominently featuring the Utes, the indigenous people of the area, whose leaders and elders welcomed all in attendance with a series of prayers and ceremony from their faith and culture. After this beautiful opening the hall was welcomed by many state delegates and the chairman of the Parliament. There were also many speakers representing the different faiths present. The spirit was palpable in the auditorium. The variety of religious dress and languages reflected the diverse and multicultural nature of the attendees. Over the next four days there were 5 more plenaries held on the topics of income inequality, war, climate change, indigenous people and emerging leaders. There were also many workshops one of which was presented by John Morton and Leigh Taylor-Young Morton. The title of the workshop was “Silence as a dynamic way to compassion and peace awareness. Attended by approximately 45 people completely new to an offering by MSIA, the Traveler’s energy was infusing the room and blessing each of us. @msiaorg

The workshop began with participants being welcomed into the presentation space in silence. After approximately 5 minutes John and Leigh explained a little bit about invoking the Light of Spirit and then called us all forward into the Light. During the course of the next 90 minutes there were offerings from the Traveler on the spirituality of and opportunities to know Spirit more deeply in the silence, shared Moments of Peace from John-Roger, and stories and facilitation into the Light and heart of peace from Leigh Taylor-Young Morton. Leigh also led the room in a guided meditation that brought forward a profoundly deep stillness in the silence that invited and guided

attendees into the sacred Light and peace within themselves. Interspersed with these offerings were extended periods of silence which seemed to magnify the experience of the Holy presence more deeply with each new interval. The workshop concluded with Traveler sharing. Participants were asked to share keys they had learned and ways that being in the silence has informed their spirituality and benefited their lives. From those who were able to get back in their bodies and be grounded enough to share, there were many wonderful stories and examples of the profound gift and meaning of silence.

One of the great blessings of having John and Leigh available to offer this workshop at the Parliament was the direct experiential nature of the Traveler’s work with initiates, which made this workshop stand out from many at the parliament. In our experience a number of the offerings at the Parliament were ‘about’ the topics, mental level presentations of great interest and of value, but limited experientially. Having John and Leigh present, grounding and communicating the spiritual energy in the way that they do as a facilitating team, as well as a couple in the divinity of the Lord, and having John present anchoring the Traveler consciousness and holding the keys, offers the direct transmission of the Spirit. Sunday morning brought with it the opportunity to listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the Tabernacle. Those that attended were deeply moved by the beautiful music of the choir and the majesty of the Tabernacle building. Afterwards John Morton led us in walking around ‘Temple Square’ where we encountered two larger than life statues depicting the restoration of the Aaronic and Melchizedeck priesthoods, and a statue as a testament to the revelation of St. John the Divine. The Mormon temple was a sight to behold, resembling a majestic castle to the Lord. John brought forward a beautiful moment of peace, and Leigh and Ezra both brought forward two beautiful blessings, one placed in the center of Temple Square, and one just by a visitors center that contained a detailed scaled model of Jerusalem as it was near the time of the crucifixion.

The Gift of Silence by Ezra Mack

I was gifted

“I was experiencing such a profound sense of loss, a sense of oppression of the spirit, and remembering a line from the movie Kundun, as the Dalai Lhama comments, ‘They have taken away our silence.’ ” 102 New Day Herald

with the extraordinary opportunity to stay overnight at Drepung Monastery, located a short walk outside of the city boundaries of Lhasa. Even after all of the destruction, hardship, and decline of the monastery since the time of the Chinese Liberation of Tibet in 1950, Drepung remained one of the largest monasteries in the world, and the largest in Tibet, still with many hundreds of monks in residence. A small group of these monks had befriended me as we found ourselves walking a Kora (a Tibetan spiritual practice of circumambulating a sacred site) together at the Jokhang in central Lhasa. After three or four complete cycles around this great temple, most of the time in silence, and some of the time in quiet conversation and laughter, I was invited to come back with them to their home.

The year was 2000, and though this visit took place during a small window of one of the most open times in Tibet for both the Han and Tibetan cultures, it was explained to me that what we were doing was quite illegal, for myself as a foreigner to be on the grounds of the monastery overnight, and to be in their private quarters at any time, and that there could be severe consequences for all of us if found out. It was explained to me that while it was night, I could venture into the small courtyard adjacent to the small complex of buildings we were in, but that in the morning, I was to stay inside until after 10:00 am, which was about one half hour after the monastery officially “opened” to any visits from foreigners. I was also told to not wander down to the lower part of the Monastery, as the Chinese had “moved in” msia.org

to the lower 1/3 of the overall complex as a gift for the “protection” of the monastery and its inhabitants. I did not think much of this at the time, but certainly agreed to the plan. What occurred next was one of the most heart centered sharings of consciousness I have ever experienced. I was given a simple meal of Thukpa, a simple dish with broth and noodles, and Tsampa, a hearty but simple paste of roasted barely flour, and we sat and ate together, again, mostly in silence. What was so extraordinary to me was the awareness that within very close proximity to us was a community of nearly one thousand other souls going about their evening rituals, in near complete silence. The resonant space of intention and love was palpable throughout the complex. It is one thing to experience the deep quiet of a forest, or an open plain, or the desert, but to experience this same quiet over an extended period of time amongst the remnants of what was once a small city was profound. After many hours I was brought to a small space and offered a sleeping mat of some sort and was told someone would let me know when it was OK to venture out the next day. I recall settling into the quiet, and noticing how calm my mind had become, after the near twelve hours of being in the peace, and the quiet, of my hosts, as I drifted into one of the most peaceful periods of sleep I have ever known. What transpired next was as much a shock to my consciousness as anything I can remember, significantly because of how incongruous it was in juxtaposition to the peace of the previous evening. Just prior to dawn, I was awakened by blaring loudspeakers that sounded as though they were coming from every direction. The broadcast was very loud, in rapid and consistent Chinese, and it went on, and on, and on. After the first ten minutes or so, I began to experience

@msiaorg

some form of disassociation, and after about the first hour, I started thinking I was simply going to go insane. About an hour after that, I was ready to turn myself in to the police at the lower third of the complex just so that in some way the horror would stop. My hosts were all off somewhere attending to their morning rituals and I was left alone to honor my commitment to our plan, that I not leave the room and building I was in until I was summoned. The range of emotion welling up inside of me was so intense, from revulsion, to extreme anger and judgment toward the Han culture, to confusion and empathy toward this violation, and the simple experience of the cruelty of the action. Then, as suddenly as it all began, the broadcast stopped. A short time later one of the younger monks from the evening before came to let me know it was OK for me to wander out into the grounds of the monastery and work my way back to Lhasa. As I went out I began to see the old horn and fan style loudspeakers scattered atop poles and on the corners of some of the buildings that I had not noticed when arriving the day before. I asked about the loudspeakers and the broadcast and was told the security department that had moved into the lower third of the monastery made the broadcast every morning, from dawn until about forty five minutes before the official opening time of the monastery. It was explained to me it was for the safety and reeducation of the inhabitants of the monastery. I presumed the ending time was orchestrated so that foreign guests would not be aware of the practice. As I made my way back to Lhasa I began to notice the sound of car horns, trucks, construction and Chinese radio broadcasts-—a number of noises that prior to my overnight visit I had just allowed to blend in to the background “unnoticed”. Growing up in New York City I had become accustom to “blocking out” the back-

New Day Herald 103

ground noise of a big city, although it was that very noise that drove me to leave New York, and seek the relative quiet of Connecticut. I began to remember my previous visit to Lhasa, in 1985, when hardly anyone from the West had ever been on the plateau, and the Han culture, though having progressed in its policy of cultural annihilation, had not yet moved forward with its policy of colonizing Tibet with it’s own population. In 1985 there were almost no cars in Lhasa, no construction noise, no Chinese radio blaring. There was still, relatively speaking, quiet. As I progressed closer to the city center, I began to realize I had been crying, not even realizing when it had begun. I was experiencing such a profound sense of loss, a sense of oppression of the spirit, and remembering a line from the movie Kundun, as the Dalai Lhama comments, ‘They have taken away our silence.” I have thought of this many times since that visit, during processes at USM, and PTS, when offered the opportunity to come into silence. I realize part of me sometimes frames it as, “I am being asked to be silent on a break,” but really, it is an offering of silence, an offering and invitation to come into a resonant space of peace, of quiet, of communion. It is an offering and invitation to participate and experience in and benefit from one of the rarest forms of healing and Grace that was once so common, and is now so preciously scarce in a modern world. The gift of stillness and silence. I have struggled in seeking understanding and forgiveness, as when I had lived in mainland

104 New Day Herald

China in 1984 I came to love the Han culture, and then after my trips to Tibet felt such pain in my witnessing the violence perpetrated there by the Han culture. I realize that as this does happen, I became, at least in part, that which I judged—in the times I have not been still in my consciousness on a silent break, the times I have outright disregarded the invitation to be silent, or thought I could slide by by speaking softly, or whispering, I realize that I have not only deprived myself of the gifts of silence, and all that comes forward in that beauty, but I have stolen the silence of others, for where one is speaking, there is no silence. As I have been taught, I must practice forgiveness for the judgments I have placed on myself and others, to find peace with this, but I also have been called to share this with our community, to invite us to consider what we are choosing, and how that is working for us and those around us. For so long, for many years prior to these trips to Tibet, and these experiences, I functioned under the belief that by not following the “rules” or by not coming into discipline in my life, I was only hurting myself, so it was OK. I realize now that hurting myself truly is also hurting others, and that breaking silence is not only giving away my silence, it is taking the silence from others. Having experienced this in one of its most severe forms, I realize it is a pain that I never want to experience again, and it is a harm that I never want to perpetrate on others again. For the times I have done this, I ask for forgiveness, and it is my wish that you may learn from my pain, and learn from my experience, and never give up the extraordinary gift of silence again.

The MSIA Ministry The MSIA ministry is for initiates of the Traveler who are called inwardly to serve the spirit of their hearts. Service may be in any form, from volunteering for the Church to assisting people in need or organizations that serve those people, and anything in between. The only requirement is that the ministry is active and done regularly. MSIA ministers may perform services, like marriages, that clergy of other denominations are authorized to do as long as they comply with the laws of the locality in which they serve. People who have received initiation into the Sound Current through the Traveler may request an Application for Ordination packet from: .JOJTUFSJBM 4FSWJDFT *O "DUJPO r 8 "EBNT #MWE -PT "OHFMFT $" @msiaorg

Initiation Students in MSIA have an opportunity to be initiated through the Mystical Traveler Consciousness into the Sound Current, the audible stream of energy that comes from the heart of God. The levels of initiation in MSIA correspond to levels of consciousness both within and outside each person: astral (relating to the imagination), causal (relating to the emotions), mental (relating to the mind), etheric (paralleling the unconscious), and Soul (relating to who we truly are). There are also initiations above the Soul level. The astral initiation happens in the “night travel (dream state) after a person has in some way come in contact with the Mystical Traveler; it is not anchored physically at that time, and the person may do no more with it in their lifetime. The next initiation is the causal, which can generally take place (be anchored) after two years of study with the Soul Awareness Discourses. (The astral initiation is anchored at the same time as the causal initiation.) Successive initiations are mental, etheric, and Soul. If you are just starting the Soul Awareness Discourses, Discourse #1 explains initiation into the Sound Current. You may choose to study the Discourses with the intention of being initiated or simply read them as information. This is up to you. If you do choose to study toward initiation, you need to write a letter as soon as you have decided and then email (or mail) it to the Traveler, saying that you are doing this. If you write this letter, the Traveler works with you more closely, and you may notice a greater spiritual awareness in your consciousness as this inner work goes on. After two years of study with the Discourses and if you have written and sent your intention letter to the Traveler, you can apply for causal initiation, generally when you have completed Discourse 24. The Traveler will look into your request, and you may be offered the opportunity for initiation. For astral/causal, mental, etheric, and Soul initiations, the person meets with an initiator and is given an initiation “tone (the name of God for each realm that applies to the tone), which the initiate chants inwardly during spiritual exercises. These initiation tones are charged with spiritual energy by the Traveler Consciousness for each person individually, and the Traveler assists the student in clearing enough karma on one level to be initiated into the next level. For the levels of initiation above the Soul level, no initiation tone is given physically. For more information about initiation, you could read the chapter called Initiation in John-Roger’s book Fulfilling Your Spiritual Promise (available in paper and electronic versions).
