id you ever get the idea that there's something in store for you and it's got to be more than what you're doing, but you don't really know what it is? I had that kind of inkling. And, looking back, sometimes I think that if I would have known what it was going to entail, I'd have died.

Years ago, when Spirit honored me
by saying, "You're going to do this spiritual work," I said, "No, I'm not." Spirit said, "Yes, you are," and I said, "No, I'm not," and we went back and forth like that for a while. In 1957 and again in 1958, the spiritual forces tried to get me to do it, and I said no. Finally in 1963, they made me "an offer I couldn't refuse." They just said, "If you don't do this work, you will die." So I said, "Well, okay, I'll do it." Some part of me had an inkling about it. Did you ever get the idea that there's something in store for you and it's got to be more than what you're doing, but you don't really know what it is? I had that kind of inkling. And, looking back, sometimes I think that if I would have known what it was going to entail, I'd have died.

That would be easy compared to this." My folks—that was impossible. I've talked about my folks over the years because they were first and foremost my really good friends— and they just now showed up here in Spirit. Secondly, they were my parents, but I sometimes thought they weren't very good parents. But my dad told me once, "You weren't a very good son, either." So I figured with what we all had to work with, we did pretty well.

that's the Christ. I think we should take to heart the real value of that. I'm not a person who gets hung up on a word, and so I've called it the breath of life, the Holy Spirit. We could also call it Maitreya, Buddha, Jesus. Whatever it is inside of you that rings with that same resonance, that is what I'm honoring.

e're tested all the time by opposition to see if we're strong enough for the next level of our awareness, which is going to need increasingly greater strength to maintain.
For my 10 percent level, I'll decide the socks I'll wear and the shoes, too. I'll decide what I do. I'll tell you if I feel like doing something, and I won't if I don' t. You have exactly the same privilege. That means there are people in here who have different skin colors, and we honor that because it's a part of the Spirit. People speak different languages, and we honor that. There are differences in race, creed, color, situation, circumstance and environment—and we honor all of that.
Do you know what that means? No one can sit in judgment. If I judge any part of you, I have honored my judgment more than I have honored the Spirit inside of you. Do you understand that? That would be shutting off the Spirit to me, and I won't do that to me. I don't honor my emotions, my thinking, or my presentation, because I'm going to keep improving it all the time-sometimes at your expense and sometimes at my expense. It's immaterial. I would say this to you: do the same thing.

nd the Travelers "rip you off" while you sleep. They remove you from this level and take you to the place where you get the invisible teachings, which the negative power can't corrupt.

hat information is not dependent on me and my mouth and my voice and my words or anything like that. It's a transmission that goes on spiritually. Then, when someone speaks the voice of love, we may become extremely skeptical because this planet is a rip-off. And the Travelers "rip you off" while you sleep. They remove you from this level and take you to the place where you get the invisible teachings, which the negative power can't corrupt. How many times have you heard me say I could sit up here and say "ham and eggs" all night and you would still get the necessary spiritual information? That information is not dependent on me and my mouth and my voice and my words or anything like that. It's a transmission that goes on spiritually. And we've also found out that I don't have to be there physically and it will still transmit. Do you know why? Because I'm not doing it. It's being done through me—not because of me, but in spite of me.
The teachings of this Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness have not taught the concept of faith because we could prove and manifest things out of our own consciousness; we could check out and test them and see whether they are so or whether they're not so. But there still comes a time in your existence when the levels you are on can't be checked. At some point, you cannot have an experience to validate your spiritual life. It'll be an existence but not an experience. Then you have to drop your truth of your experiences and go into the nothingness of the Spirit and know that that's so. You do this on the energy of faith.

People sometimes write to me and say, "What's my karma with this person? We're thinking of getting married." And I write back, "Ten-percent level." When they get that, they say, "Oh, that's really smart. There's no need to ask you." That's right; there's no need to ask me. You just look at the person and ask them, "Do you love me? Do I love you? Are we going to do it? If we are, let's do it." But don't rush. Check it out. Everything looks really good in the bloom of That faith is what brought us all here tonight. love. s the ashes fell from the bag to the sea where the gulls floated, I felt my heart was being poured out, dispersed into the water…my final act for his body…

The feelings inside of me
seemed to match the grayish monotone color of the outside world that morning. As I boarded the bus just outside of Asilomar and took my seat midway to the back, I could feel my jeans cold and wet, drenched through the pant legs between where my jacket and boots protected me from the downpour. The crystal clear blue waters and sun drenched seas of Bora Bora, where we originally had imagined doing what would be my final responsibility of taking care of J-R’s body, was now just some distant daydream. It seemed more fitting that we should choose a place with the same level of beauty, but with greater depth of range and ruggedness. Somehow, this land reflected my life with J-R, having weathered many stormy seas together yet all the while held by the depth of his strength and loving.
The bus pulled up to the docks where we were to board the chartered fishing boat. Our small group, dotted with umbrellas and rain gear, made our way from land to water, in the still rainy weather. Before leaving the bus, Phil recounted how he had recently heard a recording of J-R saying that he hoped it was raining at his funeral so he could see who showed up. All of us showed up, and had there been a place, I have no doubt many, many more would have come as well, instead of just this small group of representatives for all those who loved J-R. We boarded the water vessel as Jsu was trying to convince the captain to go around the point so we could be in front of Asilomar where Living in Grace would start later that day (as it had for decades with J-R attending). The captain couldn’t make any promises due to the severity of the swell and storm, but he would do his best.
As our boat stopped moving forward, the rain stopped and the clouds cracked enough for the sun to shine its rays upon us like a spotlight on God’s stage. A rainbow appeared on the horizon and the heaving mounds of water calmed down, as if the Lord was demonstrating what one man said to calm the raging waters 2000 years ago: “Peace. Be Still.” As we gathered at the stern of the boat, a flock of various seafaring birds flew in and landed in the water, facing us as if to witness the occasion. Drawing our bodies closer and blending our light to a point where J-R’s ashes were given to J-R’s brother and sister-in-law, Delile and Elda Hinkins, Jsu started a blessing that Delile would finish. As I held onto Elda and Delile, I felt the warmth of everyone behind drawing closer and closer just as I had felt the support for Jsu and myself from all those initiates, ministers and spirit beings who stood by us for all our years supporting J-R. As the words blessing J-R in whatever heavenly spheres he was traveling were being spoken, a couple of whales breached the water and a sacred mystical energy field descended upon us, extending out to sea and shore. I have been out in the waves many times surfing when a pod of dolphins would swim by, and I have felt a similar though less intense energy which transports the environment and those in it to a calmer, more magical place. It is fitting that the one who was known by his walkie call sign for so many years as the Green Dolphin, transported us in that moment to a magical world as we drifted in the ocean with his remains.

Your Body, Your Friend
W
ith your friendships in this world, there's no need to demand perfection from other people in order for them to gain your friendship. Be willing to give your friendship just because that’s who you are.
Do you relate to your body as your friend? Our body is one of our best friends amongst many best friends. The body is of the order of a perfect servant. Our body follows directions, and much of that direction is so far beyond what we know consciously. So it’s important to give our body responses and directions that are loving and healthy. Our body is a vehicle, a housing if you will, for our functioning in this world. Our body is vital to us as souls, as spiritual beings having human experiences in this world. When we begin to appreciate what our body is, where it comes from and how it functions for us, then it is more revealing as a temple for our soul. It then becomes more of a place of worship that’s holy. So consider the perfection and majesty of your body as an instrument of your divine nature working through the experiences in this world. When you don’t feel well, don’t judge yourself. For example, if you say to yourself, “I’d be really fine today if this body would do what it’s supposed to do,” that’s a statement of ignorance. Your body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do as a vehicle for physical experiences. It’s your attitude that needs some adjustment. Do something caring toward yourself, starting from within and expressing in your choices and actions. You can be a great friend to your body just by having a loving, peaceful way of being yourself. I'm not suggesting there will be no more storms, droughts or blizzards. Partnering with God doesn't guarantee we won't lose money or have a health challenge. We all have challenges to overcome and from which to learn. However, through my trust in God, I choose to respond to each challenge as an opportunity for learning to become a better person and contributing to a better world.

In my partnership with God, I have an agreement just like I have an agreement in any other partnership. I don't control my other partners nor do I control how anyone chooses to be a partner with me. I don't control those relationships, just as I don't control God. All I can do is make the best choices for myself through loving those relationships. I choose to strive towards perfection and then let go of control. I choose to let go and let God, which means to be patient and relax.
Move your consciousness toward being friends with your body regardless. Move your attitude towards what is joyful, healthful, and vital to you. John-Roger defines health as “loving who you are.” When I first heard that, I was struck by the simplicity and truth of that definition. God is Your Partner As a result of a financial crisis, a friend of mine told me he felt he'd lost control of his life. The challenges in our world make it clear that none of us have control of things that happen in the world. But what we can control is how we choose to respond to the challenges we encounter.
What I’ve learned is that my ability to experience prosperity and joy are more about having the willingness to choose how to respond in appreciation of what is present in each situation. When we choose to respond with trust in God, we are partnering with that One who is in control and leading us through learning and upliftment regardless of whether or not we obtain anything material. God, the Creator that created all of us, is within me and within you. I still am who I am, regardless of my financial situation or whatever challenges are in front of me. You are still who you are regardless of your material situation or bodily conditions.
Although my friend lost money, I saw that he could still choose to take every opportunity in his life to experience joy. He could still choose to be open to abundance and prosperity. Rather than giving up, I suggested he take action to protect and strengthen God is always our partner and truest friend. Your himself through these challenging times. What’s it Like Being Santa Claus? A Mall Santa Ministry
From mid-November through Christmas each year, MSIA Minister Jack Espey is the presiding Santa Claus at The Grove, a large combination shopping mall and entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles. Jack is an all-natural Santa—real beard and real sweet, open demeanor. I visited him in his magic castle in the middle of the mall, which was decked out with big red chair, elves, treats and photo equipment, for an interview at the start of his day. I asked one or two questions, but mostly Santa Jack spoke very eloquently without prompting, so this is sort of an interview-without-questions, with only a bit of editing. — Editor
I have children of all ages come in here.
Between 12 months and three years old, the kids want to see Santa, but they're thinking of Santa on TV. So they think he's a few inches tall. They're all excited, but then they get to the door and they see me full size and they're terrified. Then it's a process of helping them to realize that I'm OK. I talk to them, ask them what they want…basically I just get them talking. Usually I have the parents sit beside me, sometimes in my lap, and I can see the transition. The kids get more comfortable and less scared, and they start to open up and smile. In contrast to that, I have some kids who are around two years old, who come to the door and see me, and they start running full speed, arms open, and they jump into my lap. It's like being enveloped in unconditional loving. Total acceptance, total happiness. At this point I think, "Wow, I can go for another ten hours. This feels fabulous." There are some children who come to see me each year, so I get to watch them grow. They share a little more about their life each time, so I feel like I'm part of an extended family. It's like being an uncle in a special red suit. Some of the parents bring photo al-

bums to show me pictures of their children through excited about Santa, and it wants Santa. That the years, and I can see myself holding the child as a surprised me at first, but as I thought about it baby, and all the stages of their growth. I realized that Santa is someone you can ask for For example, two years ago, Iliana was not quite whatever you want without fear of rejection. As two years old. She could walk and talk a little bit. we grow older, so often when we want something She walked right by me and went to the marshmal- we're told, "No." But with Santa you can ask for low tray. She wouldn't sit with me. But she got her anything. It's sort of like God.
When I started realizing that there's a child within the parents, I started having just as much fun with them also. I have adults come here every year to take photos with me. They have no kids of their own; all they have is the child within. Gigi, who is 92 years old, comes in every year, and brings different friends or family members with her. She's very gracious, full of the all the polite mannerisms of a past era. But that sparkle is in her eye, the same sparkle that I see with the kids. She's so giving and loving and sharing, and I think that's why she's still so active at her age. I feel pampered when she comes to visit. I always I've seen parents get tears in their eyes as their look forward to her coming and when I see her I get children interact with Santa. When they hand a tickle inside. me the child, there's often this gleam of the child Before I started working here I asked myself, within the parent. As I've watched this I've come "What is Santa to me?" As I said, Santa is someone to learn that there's a child in all of us. It gets you can ask for anything. But there's more to it than mother's cell phone, and she'd come over and show me pictures, saying "baby" and pointing to a photo of me holding her as a baby. This went on for 11 visits that year. Finally her mother said, "No more treats until you take a photo with Santa." Then she was willing to sit in my lap, we took a photo, and now I'm her personal Santa. She was in here two days ago, came running up and hugged me, and was talking about how she was going to make cookies for me, and a bracelet and a necklace. I had five minutes of being enveloped in total love. That's hard to beat.

At first I thought I'd just be taking photos with the kids. That might be what draws them in here, but that's not the experience. The experience is something way beyond that. I never know from person to person or child to child what it's going to be. There are children and adults who come in here who so bless me that I feel my heart expand. At one point I said, "I want to go to hospitals to visit children." I told Francesca, who's waiting out there. She said if I got permission to go to hospitals, she would get her "mommy group" to get presents together for the children. So last November we went to Mattel's Children's Hospital. When we started making arrangements to go there, the woman I was talking to said, "Oh, I have a photo of you with my children, sitting right here on my desk. Please come." Usually it's a very hard process to get in there. I just said, "Thank you, spirit." We went through two floors of children, with gifts. These kids had tubes in them, they had wires, they had stitches all over‌and there was this laughter in them. I was so impressed with that. Even in their condition they were smiling and happy. Sometimes in between rooms I'd say, "I need a tissue so I can wipe my eyes before I can go to the next room." Whatever the spirit is that touches people, it's phenomenal. People come in here from all religions—Jews, Sikhs, Moslems. One lady came in wearing a full burka. All I know is there's something bigger than me going on here. All I have to do is put my body on the line, put the suit on, sit in this chair, ask for spirit, and then things happen. Well, the line is starting to grow so I'd better get to work. 21

is an ongoing service project of MSIA Riverdale, Toronto community built with commitment and love by Canadian supporters, founded in 2007. I have been heading up the project as its founder. Angels for Cuba fulfills very humble and simple requests: “wishes” from those in Cuba seeking a better life. This service project works with "Angels" (our volunteers) to manifest a long wish list of needed items, and then finds donors here in Canada. The requested list is very varied— from medicines, paints for hospital murals, laptops or hard drives, even a bride’s dress (!), to used computer equipment, used cell phones, e-books for schools, medical books, baseball caps, scarves for people who have lost their hair, used musical instruments, small toys, art and school supplies.

I always say an inner prayer each time I ask someone for a donation or resources for the project, whether it’s one person or a formal group presentation.
Second, I speak sincerely and bravely from my heart. Yes, sometimes tears form at the corners of my eyes. I want to risk the pure love and vulnerable passion that that is the heart of this project, so that it may be conveyed to others. Amazingly, people hear this authentic message and are inspired, supportive and want to help. I trusted being totally open to any donations, some that were odd and that just didn’t fit my vision of what J-R’s quotes have guided me each step was required to assist most effectively . There were times when the resources I had seemed so insignificant compared to the immense need for funds and medications. I soon learned to present each gift with a spirit of kindness that elevated the gift—making it a treasure. Many of the items on the wish list had been donated with unconditional love from total strangers who were oceans away, and these resources traveled with me to Cuba, bringing comfort and assistance to Cubans in need. Repeatedly the recipients in Cuba, even if they might have seemed too proud to receive the gifts, were honored—even by something small—as long as they came with such grace and love. A stranger’s generosity lifted people’s spirits and was perceived as profound and touching. I originally went to Cuba as a tourist. I hadn’t planned to create a service project. During one pivotal
trip what I saw really opened my eyes. I saw the reality of the average Cuban’s life, away from any tourist sites, and off the hotel grounds. I could no longer be in denial. What I saw shook my core right down to my soul. It felt like God had put me intentionally onto that path of service. And God said, “Hey! I want YOU to do something about this, now!” It did not feel like something that was optional for me..
to accept my limitations and rejoice in every small act of service I could offer. Continually there were sweet surprises that appeared from the most unexpected sources. I soon learned that the Angels (our volunteer angels on earth and the ones not of this earth) were doing their part. I learned to stay open to all possibilities and let go. My focus was to keep holding a clear vision for the project.

Patti Rayner Retires by Glenn Barnett
Thirty-five years ago
in September of 1979, Patti Rayner invited about 15 people to meet at the Santa Monica Insight offices to discuss participation in Christmas service projects. She challenged each of us to find and propose to the group a project that we could participate in. We organized about a dozen different projects that year from singing in retirement homes, handing out sandwiches and coffee to the homeless, doing handyman chores for the elderly and helping a food pantry open its doors. Perhaps a hundred volunteers were involved. That is how the Heartfelt Foundation was born. Over the years the Heartfelt Service projects grew into one of the largest unpublicized charitable events in Southern California. More projects came into being under Patti’s watchful eyes: Easter, back-to-school and Thanksgiving all became a reason and a mission for Patti and her growing number of volunteers and contacts. Heartfelt has become MSIA’s ministry to the world around us. About 17 years ago Patti established HeartReach to be our ministry to the MSIA community. Since then HeartReach has responded to the temporary crisis situations of many people in Los Angeles and around the country, even reaching overseas. This service is expanding rapidly.
She has left us an incomparable legacy to both cherish and to take into the future. Thank you Patti for showing us the way. In December the MSIA Presidency threw a retirement and thank you dinner for Patti Rayner at Prana. In attendance were her family and several people who have worked closely with Patti over the years in Heartfelt and HeartReach. Among them were John Morton and Leigh TaylorYoung Morton. Paul Kaye was the MC of the event and after we ate he invited each of us to share our Patti stories and express our appreciation for her and her work, allowing us to share in the adventure with her. Her family got the ball rolling as her three sons and several grandchildren kept us in stitches with their own insights on the beloved matriarch of the Rayner family. Next it was the turn of those who have known her through the years and served in the organizations that she and the Traveler created. When we had all had a turn, Leigh and John shared their heartfelt gratitude to Patti and her 35 years of service to our church and the world. 24

All in all, we had at least 34 online group gatherings in 10 countries worldwide: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, Nigeria, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, and Uruguay. If you are just starting the Soul Awareness Discourses, Discourse #1 explains initiation into the Sound Current. You may choose to study the Discourses with the intention to be initiated on this path, or to simply read them as information. If you do choose to study toward initiation, the Traveler works with you more closely, and you may notice a greater spiritual awareness in your own consciousness as this work goes on. If you are studying toward initiation, you need to write and mail a letter to the Traveler that this is your intention. If you have written and mailed your intention to the Traveler, you can apply for initiation when you have completed Discourse 24.

The MSIA Ministry The MSIA ministry is for initiates of the Traveler who are called inwardly to serve the spirit of their hearts. Service may be in any form, from volunteering for the Church to assisting people in need or organizations that serve those people, and anything in between. The only requirement is that the ministry is active and done regularly. MSIA ministers may perform services, like marriages, that clergy of other denominations are authorized to do as long as they comply with the laws of the locality in which they serve. Sometimes people reading Discourses, especially those studying toward initiation, want to write to John Morton. Writing often helps you let go of a troubling situation and open more to the Traveler’s assistance inwardly. As soon as you write to John Morton, he gets the message on the spiritual levels, and they do what Spirit allows. Then, to let go of the situation in your consciousness, you burn or mail your letter. Whether you burn or mail what you wrote, you may find that you get your answers on the inner levels, sometimes very quickly. You may also experience greater calm, clarity, or peace, which can help you go through whatever challenges you face. We suggest that you place the situation in the Light, ask for clarification during s.e.’s, dreams, etc., and then look for the answers within you. Often reading a Discourse or listening to an MSIA tape (either at home or at a seminar) will provide keys to assist you in handling your situation. You can also refer to any of the numerous books by John-Roger and John Morton to find information that relates to what you are dealing with. These two have shared so much with us over the years, and we encourage you to send your letters via e-mail, using these addresses:

You're following a Traveler that is invisible and that's teaching about things he won't validate, that tells you to check it out and challenges you to do it. You do it and you grow. We're all on this spaceship Earth, traveling through the unknown with somebody we don't know, going to a place we have never been to, and we're doing it lovingly.

When I do this, everybody goes, "Well, you've worked hard," and they leave me alone. But if I'm on vacation, it's more like, "He's doing nothing; let's call him up and talk to him." A few years ago, we were in the South Pacific. I was with John—-the Mystical Traveler over there—and, at that time, I was boss. He's boss now. So now there's no need to dislike me because I'm the Traveler; you can dislike him if you need to. The Traveler Consciousness has gone across from me to him—very nice. And it's 7:04 pm Pacific Standard Time.
But when we were in the South Pacific a few years ago, John wanted to go up this big rock, and I knew there was a gigantic devic form up there. He said, "I'm going to run up there," and I said, "I wouldn't if I were you." "No," he said, ''I'm going to run up there. I feel really attracted to it." Again I said, "I I have beautiful friends, and I have people who, wouldn't if I were you." The other island was quite a ways out there, through a really big, deep channel. I looked back from the boat and saw him coming with the Frisbee, but we were already gone. For me, it was like, ''Tough luck, buddy," because I had told him, "Don't go," and he went, so I thought, "Have your karma. It's fine with me." On the other island, we went snorkeling and windsurfing. When we were getting ready to go back to the first island, I sat in the boat facing the way we were going to go. And, suddenly, out of the water came this behemoth with a Frisbee in one hand. He walked toward the boat, and I told him to get into it. He got in, and I was really so glad to see him. I said, "Did you swim all the way over here?" He said, "Yeah." I said, "Damn it, you don't do that in these waters, with all the sharks around." He said, "I'm here." I said, "All right, okay. Don't do it again." It really scared me. I know that when you're on a spiritual path, all sorts of things work to knock you off it—all sorts of things. (Your best friends can be the sharks, but they're not your best friends; they just said they were.) While we went back to the first island on the boat, I asked John, "What'd you do on the way out here?" He said, "Oh, sang a lot, chanted a lot." I said, "Did you carry the Frisbee in your hand all the time?" He said, "No, sometimes I put it in my mouth." And I was sitting there thinking, "God, I love you, man. You did that, you just did that." He said, "You weren't going to leave me behind." I said, "I got that real clear." So from then on, if he was late I told the others, "Hold the boat," because I knew he'd start swimming, and I'd be thinking, "Where are the sharks? Where's the sting ray? He's going to get it. I won't be able to get off the planet right away." I think John has noticed that he has never been left since. That was an agreement I made to myself, not to him, because I don't make promises to anybody else. It was really, in a sense, looking at his birth inside of me and seeing the Christ manifest in him and seeing it manifest in others. I saw many people about whom I thought, "This person could be the next Traveler. Oh, boy. It's all set up. I'm ready to go. I just give it to you, and I go." And you know why I thought that? Because when I got the Traveler Consciousness, I didn't know anything, so I figured anybody else could do it without knowing anything, also. But I've given them a lot of teachings. And John could have a real cushy life. All he's got to do is just keep reproducing the information I put out for twenty-five years, and he's got another fifteen years just to oversee that, even if he didn't do anything else.

And all the karma's gone for all of us. I took him at his word and dissolved mine. He said it; I believe it; it's done. And it's amazing what that does for you. You have to be careful you don't go out there and just inadvertently mash into people, knowing you can get away with it. You actually walk the real fine line of obedience and honoring the Spirit of God in you and other people. Do that as a birth for you now and a rebirth every morning. And keep rebirthing yourself every second of the day.
