21 JAMESON ARVIN and NANCY THORNTON Of ESTILL COUNTY, KENTUCKY =========================================== B-1....JAMESON ARVIN was born about 1770-75 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, the oldest son of MARY (FULLILOVE) and JOHN ARVIN. He married, 26 January 1802, in Surry County, North Carolina, NANCY THORNTON, born about 1780, the daughter of John Arvin's sister SARAH, and William Thornton. According to family history, JAMESON came to Kentucky and settled in that part of the State which is now Estill County in the early part of the ninteenth century. JAMESON and JOHN WATT were among the first twelve men to settle upper Estill and Lee Counties. [Later, this was confirmed by a newspaper clipping written by NEVYLE SHACKELFORD, a newspaper editor and author in Kentucky.] Others who came about the same time were Lawrence Ross, James Ashcraft, Joseph Brandenburgh, Peyton Short, A. D. McGuire, George Tincher, Jacob Miller, William McGuire, Archibald Crawford and James McGuire. It is believed that JAMESON had made at least one trip to Kentucky before he left Lunenburg to make his permanent home there. I found the following record of him contained in the book, "Early Kentucky Householders, 1787-1811, by James F. Sutherland. Mr. Sutherland lists JAMESON as a taxpayer in Lincoln County, Kentucky for three consecutive years. Lincoln County was a very large county covering about one third of the state of Kentucky at that time. Jamieson Erwin - 24 May 1799. Jamieson Erwin - 08 June 1800. Jamieson Ervin - 13 July 1801.
