Q. A.

Q. A.

Q. A.

Q. A.

What country do you come from? I was born and raised in Brazil and had a very happy childhood. Do you ever go back to Brazil? Not really because I only get a very small holiday each year. I was thinking about leaving at the end of the school year so that I can spend more time with my family in Brazil. Where did you go school? I went to school in Brazil. I enjoyed school a lot and had many friends. What is the most important aspect of Lent for you? I think it would have to be the forgiveness of the sins and how you have to suffer the bitterness of Jesus in the wilderness for 40 days and nights when you are giving up something.

Q. A.

Have you given anything up for Lent? Well in Brazil we don’t really share the tradition of giving up anything for Lent, so no.

Q.

How are you spending your Easter holidays? As I am a caretaker, as I said I don’t really get many holidays, so I am thinking about taking my family on an fun day out instead of a holiday.

A.

Q. A.

How did you get this job? My wife was a cleaner and cleaned a house belonging to someone who worked at St George’s and recommended me the job.

Q. A.

When did you start working at St. I started working here in 2006.

Q. A.

What types of jobs do you do in a day? I fix a lot of things, paint, do some gardening and I’m basically like a handyman all in one!

Q. A.

Who is your favourite teacher? Oh, that’s a hard one, but it would probably have to be Mrs Gerry Burgess or Miss Therese Elledge and Val of course.

George’s?

Q. A.

What is the most enjoyable job around the school? I would say gardening; cutting the grass watering plants and being outside in general. Especially in the warm, fresh spring months.

Q. A.

What is the hardest part of your job? Painting because you have to have a really steady hand, which I don’t have.

Q,

What is the most embarrassing moment you have ever had whilst at school? Well when I first came to this school, I didn’t speak much English so when I was talking no one could really understand me and when I realised I felt really embarrassed!

A.

Jesus

The Easter Bunny

In Easter we remember Jesus,

It’s Easter time and the sun is glistening,

Everything he’s done has pleased us,

So everyone please keep on listening,

He also resurrected from the dead,

The Easter bunny will hop with its furry legs,

We place a crown upon his head,

And bring you lots of delicious eggs.

Written by Megan Forshaw

We will always worship God on high, Jesus lives with his father in the sky.

Spring Time

Written by Orla Pitts

The sun is coming now today, To chase the winter blues away. We smile in the new found light, Until the day turns into night. Flowers sprouting everywhere, Pink ones lovely in our hair. Daffodils, tulips, roses and more. Looking at them is never a bore! Baby animals being born today, All they want to do is play. Like us, they run, skip, jump around, Until their mother, again is found. We are smiling every day, Especially when it gets to May! Ice cream, ice cream, oh so sweet, That is what we love to eat. Sandy beaches - holidays are fun! And swimming in the shining sun. But when the Spring if finished and done, We’ll still have fun ‘cause Summer’s begun.

Flump and The Ball of Wool Written by Orla Pitts, Illustrated by Lukas Roberts

One sunny day, Flump and his mum were playing with a red ball of wool that belonged to Flump’s mum. “Flump, I am just going to make a nice fishy dinner for you and me. Stay here and don’t move. Don’t play with the ball of wool in case you lose it as it is mine, not yours. OK?” Flump nodded and went back to playing again. His mother went inside and made a start on their dinner. Suddenly, the wool stared to unravel and rolled down the hill that Flump and his mum lived on. Flump gasped and ran down the hill after it. The ball ran on and on and Flump ran after it. Soon they reached a river—the exact river that Flump’s mum warned him never to go too close to. But the ball of wool ran down the hill and straight into it! Flump stopped at the waters edge, wondering what to do. Should he get into the river to get it? He might get in trouble if he didn’t! But mum always told him not to! What should he do? Flump decided to be brave and jump into the river to get the ball back. He took a deep breath and then … SPLASH! He jumped into the river. Under the water, Flump’s fur was matted against him and his lungs were burning for air. His head finally bobbed up from under the water and he took a long, deep breath.

Flump started trying to swim but the water dragged him down. He reached out and grabbed the wool. At least that’s safe now. But Flump wasn’t! A raven flew overhead and Flump suddenly heard the pounding of feet running down the lake towards him. Then, he heard voices. His Mum’s voice! And the flapping of wings! Raven's voice! Then, through the trees he could see his mum rushing down towards the lake with Raven flying along beside her! He called out, so happy that his mum had come to rescue him. Mum reached the lake and stopped. She stretched out a paw and Flump grabbed hold of it. He was saved! Mum dragged him out of the lake, his fur dripping wet. He let go of her arm and crawled up the bank of the lake. He slowly got up to his feet and shook himself dry. Then, Flump and his mum gave each other a long hug. Mum said to him “ Come on Flump, I think it’s time for dinner. It’s tuna tonight! Your favourite!” Flump smiled at her and replied “Thank you mum!” Then, they both walked up the hill together to their little house, to enjoy a nice meal with each other.

The Romans Written by Mayze-Jane O’Mahony, Illustrated by Megan Forshaw

The Roman Army

Roman Buildings

The Roman army is an army that only men were allowed to join. The men would have to be 20 years or over. They were not expected to get married. Most soldiers were not from Italy, they were from Africa, Gaul, Germany, the Balkans, Spain and the Middle East .

There were many Roman buildings like temples, palaces, amphitheatres and villas. Romans also built coliseums. The coliseum is just like a stadium or a theatre and it

usually has four floors. The first three had arched entrances but the fourth one had a rectangular entrance.

Soldiers were forced to stay in the army for 25 years! Then they would be able to receive a pension or maybe a gift of land to farm. Often old soldiers settled down together in military towns or a colonia. The Roman Religion For many years the Romans believed in gods and goddesses. The Romans had a god or a goddess for everything like Mars for strength in battle or Minerva for wisdom. The Emperor would pray to Minerva for wisdom whilst ruling the Empire.

The public baths were very popular in Rome. They were a bit like leisure centres. They went there to relax as well as get clean. After swimming in the pool they went into heated rooms to sweat out the dirt. They might then have a massage with scented oils and a slave would scrape off the dirt and oil. The Roman Empire The Roman Empire stretched over three different continents— Africa, Asia and Europe.

Pom Pom Easter Chick

Easter Book Mark This will be fun to use for your books and it is also really easy to make.

What you will need: A pom pom Easter chick is so cute and easy to make. You will want to make the whole next after making the first chick!

What You Will Need Yellow pom poms Googly eyes or black beads Craft glue Orange fun foam or orange paper Scissors

A4 piece of paper Laminating Machine An Easter picture eg: Cross, Chick, Bunny Scissors Glue

Instructions Fold and cut the A4 sheet of paper into quarters, lengthways.

Instructions Cut a small triangle out of your fun foam / orange paper the size that you want your beak. You can adjust your beak if you don’t like the size or the shape. If you want, you can make every chick with a different beak. Make a trial run for the beak placement, and once you’re satisfied, coast the beak in craft glue. Part the pom-pom fibres slightly with your fingers and position in place. Leave to dry! Experiment with the eyes to see if you like them above the beak or on either side. Different placements means more faces and more creativity! Repeat the procedure you did with the beak, parting the fibres slightly to help get the eyes in the right spot. The two feet are pieces of orange paper or fun foam, cut in a “D” shape. Again the feet are creativity, they can be out far from each other or “pigeon toed” look. This time you can just press the feet into position, stand the chick, then leave to dry. An alternative option is to cut a heart shape from felt, and use the upper arches of the heart as the chick's feet. Just glue the heart in place at the bottom of the chick, with the two "arches" pointing outwards. Older children may wish to snip some fluff from the back of the chick, to shape the body, creating a slight taper toward the tail end. However, the chick looks just fine with some finger sculpting of the pom-pom.

Cut your Easter picture to size, so that it fits onto one of the quarters. Now take one of the quarters and glue your chosen picture onto it. Decide whether or not you want to write on the bottom of your bookmark. When you have decided what you want to write, jot it down on the paper quarter. When you have finished writing, you can decorate it with things like stickers, feathers or whatever else you want to use. You will then need to place your bookmark into a laminating sheet and ask an adult to help you laminate it. Be careful though as the laminating machine gets very hot! When you have finished laminating, trim around the edge of your bookmark so that it’s nice and neat. Finally, start reading a book and you can use your new bookmark when you have finished reading!

Happy Easter

Games Reviews Article Written by Ross Sullivan

FIFA 11 FIFA 11 is a great game and is one of the best in 2011. It has lots more things than 2010, and has a new feature called Ultimate Team. In Ultimate Team you are randomly given a team which you can name and make better by buying new players from all over the world. You also get the career and the custom matches. You can get it on PS3, Xbox, Wii and DS. Its price ranges from £20-£40 depending on the console. FIFA 11 definitely gets 5 stars from me!

Minecraft This a game on the computer. It is brilliant but it come with a price tag of £13 which you have to pay for on the internet so make sure you ask your parents! It is absolutely fantastic and is well worth the money! You have to place blocks to build anything you can imagine, castles, caves, houses, it is completely up to you. But, watch out, because monsters come out at night, so make sure you build a shelter before that happens! It’s another 5 stars from me!

Grand Turismo 5 Grand Turismo 5 is a great game and is well worth the money! It is similar to the other games in the series, but it is more fun and the graphics are better so it is more realistic. You can’t break down, which is good for when you crash! It is really fun but the only downside is that it is the same as most other driving games. It comes on PS3 only so, if you have a PS3, it’s definitely worth it. The price ranges between £30 and £40. Once again, this game gets 5 stars from me!
