City of Newark, NJ Consolidation & Transportation Plan As Northern New Jersey has grown it has fractured into too many muncipalities, creating inneffeciancy and a large amount of government. To remedy this in New Jersey’s largest city, Newark, a consolidation and transportation plan has been created to create a worldclass city that can compete with cities across America. The urban areas around the existing city limits of Newark have been consolidated to form new city limits that make sense. The new city has been sectioned into Regions, which will act as the representative districts on the new city counsel. These Regions are similar to the original town boundaries with small alterations. Two Consolidations have been laid out, creating the 24th most populous city in America with 615,946 people and the 14th most populous city in America, with 813,204 people.

Light Rail can be very useful in the new city as the primary form of transportation and economic growth. The existing system does not connect all of the sections of the city. The expanded system connects the different sections of the city as well as creating Park and Ride facilities to relieve traffic from the downtown area. Meadows Station, Newark West Station, and Brick Church Station are light rail stations that will have parking facilities and commercial and retail opportunities. The new NLR (Newark Light Rail) will also be connected to a newly formed Greater Paterson Light Rail and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail in Jersey City. These connections will transform the region, connecting people through mass transit as opposed to automobiles.
