HEADING AWARDS This year Melbourne Queer Film Festival will present $8,500 in cash prizes to films across a range of genres. Through these awards we support the exceptional work of talented filmmakers from Australia and around the world.
JURY AWARDS Our Jury Awards recognise home grown filmmakers from the diverse selection of Australian short films screening this year in the Oz Shorts and Celluloid Casserole packages. The City of Melbourne Emerging Filmmaker Award for Best Australian Short Queer Film $3,000 Cash All films in the Oz Shorts are eligible and the winner will be announced at the screening on Saturday 23 March. The winner of the City of Melbourne Award also qualifies for automatic inclusion in the international queer shorts competition, the Iris Prize, which is the world’s largest prize for a gay and lesbian short film. The winner of the Iris Prize receives £25,000 to make their next short film in the UK. In 2012 Melbourne filmmaker Grant Scicluna (opposite) won the Iris Prize for his film The Wilding, that screened at and won several awards at MQFF.
