Penthesilea, a top model from the Netherlands and a finalist of Miss Europe, the owner of the cosmetics company Be Glamorous, talks about the realities of modeling life during a pandemic, how to start a business and how to combine these two different but at the same time overlapping areas.
Penthesilea, you’re quite a successful model who often participates in photoshoots for different magazines. Have you always wanted to be a model?
Aaawww thank you for the compliment. Well as a little girl I would go through my mother’s fashion magazines and I would admire models like Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell and I always wanted to be like them, so yes, I always dreamed of being a model.
You seem to be a very confident young woman. Was it easy for you to start your modeling career?
Haha, now I’m confident, but I wasn’t always like this. Till the age of 25/26 I was insecure and trying to find my identity. Before I was very insecure, so modeling wasn’t always easy if you’re insecure. But somehow I managed.
If not modeling, which career would you choose and why?
I studied law, so I think I would be a judge or a cosmetic doctor. My passion lies in beauty and everything surrounding it.
Tell us how the idea of creating your own cosmetics brand was born? How did it all start?
It started 6/7 years ago, I was an avid hair extensions user, but could never find good quality hair. So after years of being frustrated I created my own hair extensions brand with top quality hair. When I was 14 I dreamed of one day having my own makeup brand, so I started with hair extensions and have extended the brand with a whole make up & lash collection.
Now more and more brands of cosmetics appear on the market, and it pleases! What are the special features of the Be Glamourous brand? What principles do you follow in creating cosmetics?
Be Glamourous is a high quality brand, but it’s not crazy expensive. I want every girl or woman to have the feeling of buying a luxurious brand at a normal cost.
All our products are cruelty free, suitable for vegans and the pigmentation and quality is amazing!
The package is extremely luxurious, it’s made with quality materials like Swarovski crystals.
What products would you recommend to start getting to know your brand?
It really depends on what your goal is or what products you really like.
Your Be Extra Highlighter Palette was a success. Why did you choose highlighter to be your #1 cosmetic product?
It’s still our number one product which is sold out every time. When I created the palette, highlighter was the #1 product in makeup, so I wanted to create a palette that is suitable for all skin-tones and for all women.
Hair extensions, lashes, highlighter… Where did you get your inspiration to create all these products?
I myself am a real girly girl, I love shoes, bags, clothing, jewelry, perfume and of course MAKE UP! But I also love luxurious products and high quality. So I create products that all women will love who have the same love for luxury as me.
What’s your favorite product out of your line? Why?
Really difficult, because I love all the products, but my absolute favorite is the “fierce” lip gloss.
Is there anything that you haven’t created yet but want to? What is it?
Yes, as we speak I am creating a makeup` setting mist and eyeshadow palette. So give us a follow on Instagram to keep you posted.
Are you going to expand your beauty empire?
My dream is to one day have one of the biggest beauty brands on the market, so I will put all the effort & energy to reach that goal.
You obviously love luxurious outfits and accessories. Have you ever thought of launching your clothing line, for example?
As a matter of fact I actually did consider launching my own clothing line, but as for now I too busy with my makeup line. However I don’t rule that option out, so who knows, maybe in the future I will.
How would you describe your typical day?
Not one day in my life is ever the same, so it really depends. One day I am cleaning my house, the other day I do my groceries etc, some days work, some days I spend with loved ones. My life has plenty of varieties!
We know that you love traveling. What are your favorite destinations and why?
Traveling is my hobby! I really love Dubai and the South of France. I love luxurious destinations, with good restaurants, well dressed, classy people, nice shops etc. I also love the Maldives, it’s such a beautiful place where you can totally charge yourself. When I go to the Maldives all I do is eat, sleep, going to the spa, eat, sleep and that’s it haha.
You were a guest of the GRAMMY awards. Tell us a little bit about this experience.
Being at The Grammy’s was a once in a lifetime experience. The show was amazing, I was on the red carpet with all the celebrities, it was a special evening. One I will never forget.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I have made Be Glamourous an empire. I see myself married with my now boyfriend, hopefully a baby and living in our dream house.
As a professional model, what advice would you give to beginners?
Never give up, even if you keep being rejected, don’t stop until you reach your goals and don’t get insecure. You are beautiful!
