A Message from the President

Hello, Mounties!

This fall, in keeping with our commitment to provide “unmatched support” for all, we will launch a new branding campaign. This is a substantial refresh for the Mount, bringing the College current with vibrant images and language. However, for those who know us, this is also a continuation: Mount Aloysius has always supported our students, from their very first step on campus to when they step across the stage at graduation. We’re in this position today because of the support of those who came before. In their time here, the Sisters of Mercy and all of our alumni laid the groundwork–and built the support structure–for the Mount Aloysius you see today.

Of course, the only fitting response is to take this moment to say: Thank You! Your love and dedication to Mount Aloysius–your support–contributes directly to bettering the lives of our students. Alumni giving has risen dramatically over the past two years, and your generosity provides our students educational scholarships to fuel their success. Nearly all (99%) of our students receive some form of aid, and alumni giving is instrumental in ensuring that our students will make the most of their education at Mount Aloysius.

In this magazine, you’ll see the many changes that have taken place on campus in the past year. You’ll see updates to ongoing projects, upgrades to make campus safer, and a great effort to maintain the beauty of campus. You’ll also get a sneak peek at the physical updates that have come with our brand refresh, including the beautiful new wall graphics featured around campus. The changes we’ve made are simply wonderful. I hope you can visit us soon to see how well the Mount now shines!

Dr. Renée MartinNagle, J.D., LL.M., ΄79, CEO & President of A Ripple Effect, PLLC and current secretary of the Mount Aloysius College Board of Trustees, served as the commencement speaker for MAC’s Class of 2022. Renée shared stories from her experiences as a daughter, mother, grandmother, lawyer, professor, author, businesswoman, and world traveler, and encouraged graduates to “find the North Stars.”

1989

Marie Little ΄89 was recognized at the 2022 WISE Women of Blair County Tribute Dinner. The WISE Women of Blair County Tribute recognizes and honors Blair County women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in promoting the awareness of the significant role of women in the quality of life in the community and its economic growth. Marie is the President of the Hollidaysburg Area Arts Council.

1994

Shawn Kauffman ΄94 started his new role as Director of Human Resources at McAneny Brothers, Inc. McAneny Brothers is a full-service convenience and grocery store distributor, offering online ordering and next-day delivery throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, and New York.

1995

Marie Simmers, RN ΄95, director of case management, graduated from Conemaugh Health System’s Aspiring Leaders Program in December 2021. She has served in the health system for nine years.

1999

Quan Britt ΄99 took over the helm as head men’s basketball coach at Penn Highlands Community College in Johnstown, PA in May 2021. Quan and the Black Bears may have far-exceeded expectations in his first year leading the way, as they reached the semifinals of the Region 20 Tournament.

2004

Jessica (Fleegle) Lieb ΄04 was hired as Director of Business Operations at MyAdvisor, a ThreeWire Systems Company. MyAdvisor provides mental health and wellness care coordination, with services ranging from crisis care, wellness coordination, clinical behavioral telehealth sessions, financial resources, career development, and referral management.

2007

Meghan (Wojcik) Perrone ΄02, ΄07, office manager for Conemaugh Physician Group – St. Benedict Rural Health Clinic, recently completed the Conemaugh Health System’s New Leader program. Now in its 10th year, the program offers management skills training and process management training, supporting new managers and directors as they transition into leadership roles. Meghan has been a Conemaugh employee for a total of seven years.

2009

Paula (Custer) Kline ΄09 recently completed the Conemaugh Health System’s New Leader program. Now in its 10th year, the program offers management skills training and process management training, supporting new managers and directors as they transition into leadership roles. Paula, nurse manager of the palliative care/medicalsurgical unit in the Good Samaritan wing of Conemaugh Memorial, has been with the health system for over 24 years.

2011

In January 2022, Joseph “Joey” Stephenson ΄11 was promoted to Vice President, Financial Intelligence Group CoordinatorFraud Team at S&T Bank, based in Indiana, PA.

One month after Elizabeth “Liz” Price ΄11 and John Harris lost their 6½-month-old daughter Riley to a congenital heart defect, Liz released a book to tell the story of their daughter and other CHD warriors during their stay at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The book, titled “The CHD Alphabet Book” can be purchased on Amazon, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

2012

Matthew Stoyanoff ΄09, ΄12 was voted on to the Mount Aloysius Alumni Executive Board of Directors during the 2021 Alumni & Homecoming Weekend.

2013

Dustin Leverknight ΄13 graduated in the fall of 2013 and started with Lias Tire Inc. as a sales and marketing rep in the spring of 2014. During his time there, he’s moved up the corporate ladder and is now the Division Manager of Lias Tire’s Racing Division, the largest distributor for American Racer Tires. Dustin now oversees all sales and customer accounts at Lias Tire and contributes his professional success to the education and experiences gained at Mount Aloysius College!

Dr. David Tran, DPM, ΄13 was hired as a podiatric surgeon at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. Dr. Tran specializes in podiatry, diagnosing and treating common problems such as foot pain and arthritis, but also performing surgeries including ingrown toenails, hammer toes, and more.

2014

Jacqueline “Jackie” (Bost) Kyle ΄14 recently began working at UPMC Altoona as a Labor and Delivery Nurse.

2015

Tanner Thomas ΄15 was named to PA Business Central’s 2021 list of Foremost Under 40. Tanner is a Senior Accountant at James Moore & Co. The selection committee based its final selections on nominees who have made a positive impact on the Central Pennsylvania business community by consistently moving their business forward, adapting to major changes in their personal and professional life, and giving back to the community through volunteering or mentoring.

2016

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center has awarded Alaina (Mock) Heeter, RN, ΄15, ΄16 the hospital’s Amber Port Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship was established in 2020 in memory of Amber Port, RN, PACU/SDSU Nurse Manager.

Kristy M. Daniel ΄16 was hired as Associate Registrar for Records and Progression at York College of Pennsylvania.

A former member of the Mountie baseball team, Nicholas DiDiano ΄16 was recently recognized in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s (AMCC) 25th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Series. Following graduation, Nicholas decided to join the United States Coast Guard. He serves as the Officer in Charge – Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDets). The LEDets are specialized groups responsible for enforcing maritime law, aboard both U.S. and Allied ships.

2019

Lucy Craig ΄19 and Alison McElheny ΄19 joined the Mount Aloysius Alumni Executive Board of Directors in December 2021. Alison also serves as the Board’s secretary.

Emily Goldyn ΄19, a four-year member of the women’s tennis team, was recently recognized in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s (AMCC) 25th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Series. As part of her education, Emily also served as an FBI Honors intern in New York,

Pittsburgh, and Quantico, VA. She also interned with the District Attorney’s Office in Ebensburg, PA. In 2019, Emily became the first AMCC Woman of the Year from Mount Aloysius. She was then nominated by the AMCC for the NCAA Woman of the Year. Following graduation, she accepted a full-time position as an Operational Support Technician with the FBI.

2020

Domity Dahn ΄20, a former member of the men’s soccer team, was recently recognized in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s (AMCC) 25th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Series. Following graduation, Domity took a job with Sure Secure Solutions, a company that he interned with during his junior year. He currently represents the company as a contractor for NASA, working as a System Engineer. Domity is currently supporting the ModelBased Systems Engineer (MBSE) team but has worked with NASA on multiple past projects.

News from Mount Aloysius College

“A Night in the Vineyard” Raises Over $122,000

was started in 1997 by Nancy Way, assistant professor of music, who is still directing Vox Nova today.

Thousands of songs and hundreds of performances later, the group is still active at the College and in the local community. They have sung both religious and secular music for College events, Stations of the Cross services at area churches, concerts in surrounding venues, and many other appearances.

Mount Students Volunteer at Free Clinic in Pittsburgh

Mount Aloysius College hosted a “A Night in the Vineyard” dinner gala to raise funds for student scholarships. The event raised more than $122,000 towards scholarships for Mount Aloysius students.

The “Night in the Vineyard” occurred on Saturday, November 6, 2021 and featured a three-course meal paired with wines of the Pacific Northwest. David Ulbricht, owner and winemaker at SchöneTal Cellars, Oregon, provided background information and commentary on the wines paired with each course.

In addition to the dinner, attendees participated in a silent auction and themed activities, as well as a reception that kicked off the event.

Vox Nova Celebrates 25 Years

FNB Donation Supports Dual Enrollment

Katie Fasel of Bedford, PA, and Ally Bihary, of Duncansville, PA, two pre-dental majors at the College, worked alongside 1,000 other volunteers at a free dental clinic in Pittsburgh to provide care to over 1,000 patients.

Vox Nova, the select mixed vocal ensemble at Mount Aloysius College, celebrated 25 years of performances with “Vox Nova is 25!”, a reunion concert on Saturday, April 23 in the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel.

This performance included not only the current Vox Nova singers, but also alumni who were involved over the group’s 25-year lifespan. The ensemble

First National Bank recently donated $6,000 to Mount Aloysius College via the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. The donation will go towards the Mount’s College in High School program.

The College in High School program offers high school students the opportunity to take reduced-tuition courses for college credit at their high school. These courses allow students to enter college a step ahead, with credits already on their transcripts, so they can better explore their interests or graduate early.

“We are thankful to First National Bank for their generous gift and commitment to Mount Aloysius College students,” said Dr. John Farkas, Vice President for Institutional Advancement for Mount Aloysius.

“The College in High School program provides a unique education opportunity for local high school students, and students interested in any major can benefit from this program.”

The group, Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh, serves underinsured individuals in the Pittsburgh area. They provided extractions, root canals, fillings, and examinations. Bihary worked with other hygienists to offer routine cleanings, while Fasel assisted dentists in the periodontal and imaging department.

Next year, Katie, Ally, and the Mount’s pre-dental club want to be able to return to Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh with even more volunteers.

Nursing Faculty Contributes Chapter to Award-Winning Book

Dr. Julie Decker, assistant professor of nursing, has co-authored a chapter in the book “Veteran-centered Care in Education and Practice: An Essential Guide for Nursing Faculty,” which focuses on educating nurses on understanding why and how veteran

patients may need specialized care due to trauma, exposure, and other factors relating to their military service.

Dr. Decker’s chapter, co-authored with Dr. Carma Erickson-Hurt, focuses on dangers veterans are exposed to due to their occupation and their environment. The chapter covers everything from noise exposure, to radiation, to Agent Orange and Gulf War Syndrome, for which there is no known definitive cause.

The book is the recipient of two awards. The Sigma Theta Tau 2021 Capstone International Nursing Book Award recognizes outstanding books published by nurses. The AJN Book of the Year Award 2021 (Nursing Education/Prof Dev. category) recognizes the most valuable texts of a given year as chosen by a panel of American Journal of Nursing judges.

Mount Receives Grant, Kickstarts New Major

Mount’s ultrasonography department. “This simulator can provide students with a realistic sonography experience in the classroom, preparing them for jobs in hospitals and clinics.”

The VIMEDIX is a manikin, meaning that it is designed to look and perform like a live patient, and allows students to develop their skills in ultrasound probe handling, image interpretation, diagnosis, and clinical decision-making. Dr. Dave Haschak, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Mount, says that this machine is an exciting learning opportunity for the students.

“Students who choose to study echocardiography at the Mount will have such a higher quality of learning thanks to the VIMEDIX device,” Haschak said. “We really cannot thank the UPMC Altoona Foundation enough for continuing to support education at the Mount, and for supporting our students’ educations.”

Echocardiography, sometimes called cardiac sonography, uses ultrasound equipment to get images of a patient’s heart. Mount Aloysius will be adding this bachelor’s program to their allied health majors beginning Fall 2022 and is now accepting applications.

The increases we experienced are due to your generosity and support of our student body.

• Restricted giving rose by $232,225 or 74%

Mount Aloysius College recently received a grant from the UPMC Altoona Foundation for a new machine to help allied health students learn. The grant, worth $25,000, will go towards the purchase of a VIMEDIX ultrasonography machine. This machine will help the Mount launch their new Bachelor of Science Echocardiography program.

» The Branding Journey

Our journey to ELEVATED and UNMATCHED SUPPORT was an exciting one. After some external

audience research in Fall 2020, we launched a college-wide brand exploration initiative in Fall 2021 with the goal to discover who Mount Aloysius really is, and what makes the Mount such a special place to pursue higher education.

Who best to answer those questions? The ones who know us best: our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community.

The early process involved a series of online surveys, in-person interviews, focus groups, and informative presentations. The response was incredible.

“We decided early on to do this process in-house,” said Sam Wagner, Vice President for Marketing and Communications. “The cost to outsource was astronomical and we felt strongly that we could deliver the best product using our own, great internal teams and really getting the community involved early. With survey responses from nearly 600 students and the incredible response from our faculty and staff, we know we made the right choice.”

After concluding the research phase in December 2021, the marketing and admissions teams worked together to review the data and bring the key findings to the front of the project.

“A few themes jumped out at us very quickly,” said Jake Yale, Vice President of Enrollment Management at the Mount. “Our whole community described the friendly and caring nature of the College as its top quality, and our students told us overwhelmingly that they came to the

Mount because it is a career-focused institution.”

In addition, the themes of “support” and “care” came up again and again as defining qualities at the Mount. Whether it was from an academy alum or a brand new freshman, the tangible feeling of support stuck out. Brand pillars, or qualities that support our brand promise, included quality investment, first-choice employability, lifelong community impact, and individualized growth. These are all backed by facts and Mountie stories that prove the brand promise of Mount Aloysius College.

With our research findings in-hand, we began the creative process of writing a brand promise, defining brand pillars, and creating and launching a brand theme. Wagner was amazed at how organically the process went.

“A brand promise is an experience that everyone can expect every time they interact with an organization,” said Wagner. “For us, the value proposition that jumped off the page was that we are unmatched in terms of student support. It came up in almost every single discussion we had, and it is something that we never really centered on in our marketing efforts.”

Yale explained that their early decisions on the process also set the stage for a successful project.

“A lot of people are excited about the visual/creative part of branding,” said Yale. “We started with the words, and we got buy-in early. Then when the visual stage began, it was icing on the cake.”

Why do Mounties land careers with businesses

We put out a call for students to participate in a new brand photoshoot, and had over 100 students respond and come out. That led to the creation of the new brand theme: Elevated.

“We were really struck by the confidence and pride that came through in the portrait shots that were taken,” said Wagner. “We remarked that our students really flourish in the supportive environment here. The supportive community lifts them up. At the same time, we were interested in choosing a theme that tied into our beautiful, mountainous campus. All of the sudden we landed on ΄Elevated’ and immediately fell in love with it.”

The community response has also been extremely positive.

“΄Elevated’ really does capture the essence of the caring environment at the Mount,” said psychology student Noah Ports, who graduated in May 2022. “Everyone has their own stories for how they’ve been elevated here, and for how they’ve been supported.”

The new branding visuals include the use of some new secondary colors in the style guide, new fonts, and new messaging. It also includes some graphical themes such as contour lines (as you’d see on a topographical map), arrows pointing up, frames, and graduated dots. The tower logo and primary blue color will remain unchanged as they continue to help build visual brand equity for the College.

The long-standing mission and history of Mount Aloysius, combined with this new branding initiative, will lead to a stronger reputation, increased awareness, and the long-term success for the College. The new branding effort includes new and improved visual branding on-campus, new admissions collateral, unified advertising efforts, and a shared sense of understanding and storytelling for the Mount Aloysius community.

A LOOK AT Elevated ACROSS CAMPUS

ADDITIONAL CAMPUS UPDATES FOR FALL 2022: In addition to the branding updates happening on campus, there have been plenty of visual updates to campus this summer. New sidewalks have been installed on the north side of Main and from the library to Pierce Hall. The steps in front of Main were repaired and reset, and new steps were poured at the entrance to Main beside Alum ni Hall. The first floor of Main has been painted and new lights have been installed. The first-floor hallways in Main, St. Gert’s, and Alumni Hall have been painted, new carpets were installed where necessary, and new lighting has been installed. Both gyms in the ACWC and the multipurpose room in Bertschi Center are now brighter thanks to new LED lighting.

A Fresh Look for Ihmsen Hall: Complete

Recently, the three-year long renovation project of Ihmsen Hall was completed. Originally constructed in 1963, the upgrades to the building included a new sloped roof, new windows, and a new exterior with added insulation. They also brought an elevator and air conditioning to the College’s original detached residence hall. Rooms were updated to have new flooring, ceilings, fresh paint, shelving, and furniture. The first-floor lounge now features increased study spaces, a kitchen for residents, and much more.

Mount Aloysius College Announces New VP for Student Affairs

The renovation project was made possible in part by a $550,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). The Ihmsen Living and Learning Center will help Mounties for years to come by providing a modern, relaxing environment to study, congregate, and live.

After a national search, Mount Aloysius College announced that Robin A. Gore, Ed.D., has been named Vice President for Student Affairs. Gore comes to Mount Aloysius most recently from Pepperdine University in California, where she served as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.

“Dr. Gore brings a great amount of depth and experience to this vice presidential role,” said John N. McKeegan, president of Mount Aloysius College. “Her experience with residence life, tailoring the first-year experience, and working in retention performance will be a great addition to the Mount. We are excited to welcome Robin to our student affairs team.”

Before her time at Pepperdine, Gore served in a variety of student affairs roles at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. At the Mount, she will be responsible for guiding and overseeing student affairs and Title IX operations for the College.

“It is an absolute honor to be joining the Mount Aloysius team. It is evident that the college puts students first, and I am excited to share in–and build upon–student success efforts,” said Gore. “I look forward to engaging with our students to provide them the support they need in order to thrive at the Mount and to be ready to launch into their careers.”

Gore earned her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College. She also earned a Master of Science in Education, Student Affairs Administration, from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology, from the University of WisconsinPlatteville.

Gore started in her new role at the Mount on April 19, 2022.

“My family has had a long relationship with Mount Aloysius. My mother attended when it was known as Mount Aloysius Academy. I personally have taken classes at the Mount.

After the untimely death of my daughter, Julie, who was enrolled in the nursing program at the Mount, and preparing to graduate in the spring, I was moved to establish a scholarship fund in her memory, the Julie Riley Hale Memorial Scholarship.

“Follow Your North Star”

Mount Aloysius celebrated its 81st annual commencement ceremony on May 14, with students, faculty, staff, and loved ones gathered in the Athletic, Convocation, and Wellness Center to celebrate the Class of 2022.

Reneé Martin Nagle, J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., ΄79, CEO of A Ripple Effect PLLC and Mount Aloysius College Trustee, instructed students to “follow their North Star” and advised students to continue learning all their lives.

Student speakers included Corrin Dagostin (invocation), Anne Way and John Price (welcome), Enoch Quarcoo (student commencement address), and Sarah Rathmell (benediction). Also honored at the ceremony were the College’s Sisters of Mercy: Sister Benedict Joseph Watters, Sister Giuseppe DaBella, and Sister Eric Marie Setlock. The three Sisters were given the Catherine McAuley medal, which honors individuals whose life achievements center around compassionate service.

Mount Aloysius Named Center of Excellence by NSA, DHS

Mount Aloysius College has been named a “Center of Academic Excellence for Cyber Defense” by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Only 16 schools in Pennsylvania and just over 350 institutions across the country hold Center of Academic Excellence status. The Mount is the only four-year program in Blair and Cambria counties with this designation.

The select designation is awarded to US colleges and universities who meet the NSA and DHS’ rigorous standards for cybersecurity teaching and awareness. It recognizes colleges whose programs

fall in line with rigorous expectations for instruction and support.

Mount Aloysius’ “ability to meet the increasing demands of the program criteria will serve the nation well in contributing to the protection of the National Information Infrastructure,” stated the NSA’s certification letter.

“We’ve been working on this designation for over a year,” said Kristi Smith, chair of the information technology department at Mount Aloysius. “We have one of the longest-established cyber programs in the area, so to have the NSA validate the program in this way is really special. Our cybersecurity students regularly land impressive internships and careers with major companies and

federal agencies, and this designation really validates our program’s excellence.”

In their review of the Mount’s cybersecurity program, the NSA and DHS looked at assessment data, curriculum, student transcripts, campus activities, and how cybersecurity is integrated into other programs on campus.

“This designation confirms that our students receive powerful instruction in fields that really matter to the future of our country,” said John McKeegan, president of Mount Aloysius College. “It is a very exciting day for the Mount, and I am thankful for the exemplary work of our IT faculty and staff.”

Mount Aloysius Partners with Penn Highlands Healthcare System

Mount Aloysius College and Penn Highlands Healthcare DuBois announced a new opportunity to pursue a career in surgical technology, providing incoming students up to $44,000 in educational funding, hiring incentives, and guaranteed employment at any Penn Highlands Healthcare hospital. The two-year program will feature a mix of online and in-person classes at Penn Highlands Healthcare DuBois.

Mount Aloysius College will offer a $14,000 scholarship to all incoming surgical technology students in the DuBoisbased program. Students are also eligible for up to $15,000 in educational funding from Penn Highlands Healthcare while enrolled, and up to $15,000 in signing bonuses upon hiring at Penn Highlands Healthcare.

Penn Highlands Healthcare has expressed the need for surgical technologists, and through this collaboration, we will provide students a stellar education at very little cost,” said John McKeegan, president of Mount Aloysius College.

In his inaugural address, college president John N. McKeegan reflected on the influence of the Sisters of Mercy, both in his personal life and the lives of the members of the Mount Aloysius community. The ceremony, a belated celebration of the Mount’s history and legacy while looking toward the future in honor of McKeegan’s placement as the 15th president of the college, took place in October 2021.

Presentations during the two-day event included a panel discussion on the value of a Catholic higher education and a keynote address by John Garvey, president of the Catholic University of America.

In addition to the panel and keynote address, Mount Aloysius College academic department chairs presented to guests the strides each department is making to assist students in their educational pursuits. Dr. Julie Decker, assistant professor of nursing, spoke Thursday, October 7 on the role of the Sisters of Mercy nurses during the American Civil War. Dr. Donald Talbot, professor of fine arts, presented the same day on Arts for Healing and using art as a way to assist people suffering from a variety of illnesses in their healing journey.

Mounties Capture Two AMCC Titles During Strong 2021-22 Season!

The 2021-22 Mountie athletic season saw all sports compete in a full season of competition, as well as many successes across the board. Conference championships and individual recognitions were among the accolades received, to go along with the many other accomplishments.

Fall sports made their first official appearances again since 2019. All of the fall sports made their respective postseason tournaments. Men’s and women’s soccer both earned wins in the AMCC Tournament and were capped by the men’s soccer program’s run to a second AMCC Championship. The men topped both top seeds, Medaille and Penn State Behrend, by 2-1 scores. The championship game was even more improbable as the Mounties played a majority of the game a man down. In the NCAA First Round, the Mounties fell to #8-Messiah, despite a valiant effort.

Women’s bowling made their seventh consecutive appearance in the AMCC Postseason Tournament, before falling in their opening match. It was the first year under Head Coach Jessica Miller (Bello) ΄18.

The spring season saw many firsts. Men’s volleyball competed in their program’s first season, including winning their first game. The lacrosse program also won their first official game, beating Wilson. Both baseball and softball teams made their conference tournament. Baseball had their best finish ever, earning the second seed. Head Coach Kevin Kime also won his 300th career game. In the AMCC Tournament, they won their final three games, including two consecutive wins against top-seed Penn State Behrend to win the program’s first AMCC Championship and tie for the program record with 27 wins. They had a very impressive showing in the NCAA Tournament, dropping their two games, both in extra-innings.

Annual Day of Giving!

In the spring, the Mount Aloysius community set a lofty goal: raise $25,000 in 24 hours in the first annual Day of Giving event. Dubbed the Growing Greater Day of Giving, this fundraiser aimed to support scholarships for Mountie students. Annual scholarships are a necessary component of financial aid for students, and every contribution is a lifechanging investment in our students’ success in the classroom and in life.

Through a generous offer by the Mount Aloysius College Board of Trustees, every dollar raised was matched 1:1. The College is grateful to the 57 donors who helped us reach our goal of $25,000. Their generosity will help our students continue to receive unmatched support and a quality education.

SUMMER FUN!

Finding their Future in Healthcare

Mount Aloysius College hosted a two-day healthcare camp providing students with a hands-on introduction to a wide variety of healthcare careers, including nursing, surgical technology, physical therapist assistant, radiography, ultrasonography, and biology. The inaugural Future Healthcare Leaders Camp was open to students in grades 9 through 11 and ran June 21 and 22, 2022.

The Future Healthcare Leaders Camp was sponsored by a grant from the UPMC Foundation, the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, and PA Area Health Education Center (PA AHEC), and attendance was free.

Students who completed the camp also received a scholarship from the College.

Learning the Skills to Score

This summer, Mount Aloysius hosted two sports camps for kids. The Youth Soccer Camp ran June 6-9, and was taught by Mount Aloysius College soccer coaches and students on the school’s soccer field. Campers learned proper techniques and skills, team building, and much more. Taught by the Mount Aloysius College basketball coaches, the Youth Basketball Camp ran June 20-23. Campers ran drills on the basketball court in the ACWC, learning the skills they needed to be great team players. Both camps were a great opportunity to learn teamwork, advance kids’ skills in a sport they love, and have fun.

The Business of Esports

For the second year in a row, Mount Aloysius partnered with The Esports Company to host an esports summer camp. The camp ran from July 27-29, and taught campers the business of esports, with classes in marketing, graphic design, production, video editing, IT, and gameplay coaching. The camp concluded with a game tournament on July 29.

Camp Cadet returned to Mount Aloysius College once again this year, after being cancelled due to the pandemic. Camp Cadet is hosted by the Cambria County PA State Police and gives kids ages 12-15 the chance to experience the criminology field. Campers learn more about careers in law enforcement, including the PSP and the PA Game Commission. Camp Cadet ran July 31 through August 6
