From the Principal…. As is the case each and every year, the pace of school seems to pick-up after we return from Spring Break. The days appear to be going faster and the excitement increases exponentially as our seniors march toward graduation and all students look forward to the warm weather and less-rigid schedule that summer provides. During the month of May, our students still have much to accomplish and also a lot to look forward to as several events are planned that add to the enjoyment and the overall experience of high school. We have concerts scheduled in almost every musical ensemble, Prom and our annual Senior Awards Night are on the horizon. In addition to the events mentioned above, Advanced Placement (AP) testing occurs in May and due to popular demand and incredible, initial reviews from students, families, and staff, we will be running our Re-F.L.E.C.T. schedule on May 4, 11, and 18. I would also like to share that we will host our last Communication Night of the school year on Tuesday, May 10. In closing, I want to once again thank you for all you do in supporting your student(s) and Mounds View High School. Get to Know ‘Em Meet Joelle Imholte I tell my students, “I’m older than the dirt, but younger than the stars,” so let’s suffice to say that I graduated from the College of St. Benedict enos ago with a B.A. in Art and Theater. I have also studied at Augsburg College, the International School of Art in Italy, and continue to work and study ceramics at Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis. One of my greatest joys in teaching art is when students create beyond their own self-perceptions of artistry, when students are able to recognize their own growth, and when learning extends beyond content to life lessons. I feel fortunate to teach such wonderful students here at Mounds View High School. Out of a love for travel my life took a new direction when I joined Global Volunteers, a service/travel organization. I have been to India 7 times, 6 as a volunteer. I have worked teaching conversational English to the children, played games, directed art projects, sung songs, danced the hokey-pokey countless times, and still thrill the children with goofy antics and all-around silliness. Hugs are dished out generously and in heaping portions so both the children and I are satisfied. One small boy, Augustine, has given my life additional purpose as I continue to sponsor him and have been welcomed into his family. My return trips to India are all about seeing him, the other children and the hosts, who all have become an extension of my own family. Additional interests include: gardening, cooking, spending time with family and friends and planning the next use of my passport! Looking ahead to the future I hope to write and make a few decent pieces of art.
Meet Aaron Wojahn My name is Aaron Wojahn and this is my first year teaching at Mounds View High School. Before arriving at MVHS I was teaching math overseas at International School of Myanmar (ISM) in Yangon, Myanmar. I was there for four years. At ISM, I was teaching AP Calculus AB, Precalculus, Consumer Math, and Algebra 1. At MVHS I am teaching AP Calculus AB and Advanced Algebra. My wife, May, my daughter, Emily, and I moved to the United States in June of 2015. I am originally from Minnesota and met my wife in Yangon. Our daughter was born in October of 2014 in Yangon. Overseas we enjoyed doing a lot of travelling around the region and visiting family. We are very happy to be in Minnesota and I have enjoyed my time teaching at MVHS.

June 20-24 is Minnesota Private College Week. During this week you can tour any of 17 private colleges in our state. Sessions are held twice daily, running from 9:3011:45 AM or 2:00-4:15 PM. College Notification Date
May 1 is college notification date. Be sure to let the college you plan to attend know that you are coming, and send in your enrollment deposits by this date. It is also polite to notify all colleges who have accepted you of your enrollment intentions. A simple email stating that you do not intend to enroll in the fall is sufficient.

Mounds View High School, in partnership with the Arden Hills/Shoreview Rotary and Rotary International, has been selected as a host school for a Rotary International student. We are very excited about this tremendous opportunity and we need your help in making this exchange a reality. Health Office News
May is Mental Health Month Mental health is the term we use to refer to emotional, psychological, and social well-being. May is mental health month. This is a great time to learn more about mental wellness and mental illness and how to identify when those ups and downs in life can be taken in stride and when it’s time to reach out for help. Below are links to some resources where you can learn more. Concerned about your student? School staff can help provide guidance and support. Your student’s dean is a great place to start. Mounds View’s School Psychologist or Licensed School Nurse are also happy to provide resources, information, and are available for consult. Just as there are habits that help keep us physically healthy, there are health-promoting habits that can help us with optimal emotional wellness. Here are a just a few examples: connect with others and nurture relationships, get enough sleep, eat well, take time for yourself, set achievable goals, help others, stay physically active.
