Greg Symes ACADEMY MANAGER

“ No matter how talented you are behind the wheel, your education should remain your absolute priority. If you think that you don’t need to study because you’re going to become a world champion, you should think again. T hese days, just being quick isn’t enough if you want to make it to the top of the sport; the leading teams are now only interested in intelligent drivers who can communicate on a technical level with their engineers, and understand the complex data that unlocks those last few tenths. ow, thanks to the Motorsport UK Academy AASE N programme, there really is no excuse for neglecting your education in pursuit of your driving ambition. The programme is designed to help you become a better athlete, while also providing academic qualifications, including A-level equivalents.” motorsportuk.org/aase

The Motorsport UK AASE programme was launched in 2009 as part of the Motorsport UK – a development pathway for the most promising drivers in UK motor sport. The Motorsport UK Academy peaks with the Team UK national squad.

- The two-year programme is delivered in partnership with Loughborough College (Good – Ofsted). It is essentially a sports science course for motorsport, and focuses on all of the human performance elements that combine to create successful drivers. - Athletes are required to attend Loughborough College twice a month for four days at a time. In their spare time, athletes are required to be preparing for competition, in competition or be gaining work experience within the industry. - Additionally, athletes will be required to attend focused development sessions at key motorsport facilities.

- Motorsport UK and Loughborough College have developed the programme from the generic Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme to a bespoke motorsport specific programme to ensure that the needs to a developing competitor are met. It echoes the same principles as you would find in every other AASE programme, however it is now its unique programme specific and wholly exclusive to motorsport. - Each year, one member of the Motorsport UK Academy AASE programme is named the Motorsport UK Young Driver of the Year. The winner receives a trophy at Motorsport UK’s prestigious Night of Champions ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club.
