Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo
I was reading a story about a man living in Kandos (near Mudgee in NSW) seems he received a bill for his as yet unused gas line stating that he owed $0.00. He did what I’d do, ignored it and threw it away. Well a month later he gets another bill and threw that one away too. The following month the gas company sent him a very nasty note stating they were going to cancel his gas line if he didn't send them $0.00 by return mail. So he calls them, and talked to them, they said it was a computer error and that they would take care of it…. The following month he decided that it was about time that he tried out the troublesome gas line figuring that if there was usage on the account it would put an end to this ridiculous predicament. However, when he went to use the gas, it had been cut off. He called the gas company who apologized for the computer error once again and said that they would take care of it. The next day he got a bill for $0.00 stating that payment was now overdue. Assuming that having spoken to them the previous day the latest bill was yet another mistake, so he ignored it, trusting that the company would be as good as their word and sort the problem out. Yep you guessed it… the next month he got a bill for $0.00. This bill also stated that he had 10 days to pay his account or the company would have to take steps to recover the debt. Finally, giving in, he thought he would beat the company at their own game and mailed them a cheque for $0.00. The computer duly processed his account and returned a statement to the effect that he now owed the gas company nothing at all. A week later, the manager of the Mudgee branch of the Westpac Banking Corporation called our hapless friend and asked him what he was doing writing a cheque for $0.00. After a lengthy explanation the bank manager replied that the $0.00 cheque had caused their cheque processing software to fail. The bank could therefore not process ANY cheques they had received from ANY of their customers that day because the cheque for $0.00 had caused the computer to crash. The following month the man received a letter from the gas company claiming that his cheque has bounced and that he now owed them $0.00 and unless he sent a cheque by return mail they would take immediate steps to recover the debt. At this point, the man decided to file a debt harassment claim against the gas company. Can’t say I blamed him... Well it took him nearly 2 hours to convince the clerks at the local courthouse that he wasn’t joking. They subsequently assisted him in the drafting of statements which were considered substantive evidence of the aggravation and difficulties he had been forced to endure during this debacle. The matter was heard in the Magistrate's Court in Mudgee and the outcome was this: The gas company was ordered to: [1] Immediately rectify their computerized accounts system or show cause, within 10 days, why the matter should not be referred to a higher court for consideration under Company Law. [2] Pay the bank dishonor fees incurred by the man. [3] Pay the bank dishonor fees incurred by all the Westpac clients whose cheques had been bounced on the day our friend's had been. [4] Pay the claimant's court costs; and [5] Pay the claimant a total of $1500 per month for the 5 month period March to July inclusive as compensation for the aggravation they had caused their client to suffer. And all this over $0.00. Makes you wonder just how things work in our paper shufflin’, computer driven work centers.. When I worked at the factory I hated taking readings and any kind of paperwork that was required by the local government.. They sure do have a lot of forms to fill out and who reads all that stuff. Guess the computer does and, he/she/it thinks zero as in “0” deserves some-sort of form to fill out... Go Ahead... Take It! Mrs. Hollis Sharpe was walking her poodle, one night on a Los Angeles street when she was attacked by a mugger, shoved to the ground, and forced to hand over her purse.

Wiggins, MS. — The 13th annual Wild Turkey Run Car and Truck Show hosted by the Wiggins Knights of Columbus (KC's). This year our show has moved to the SAWMILL RESTARUANT on highway 49. The new venue provides for more parking, a section for a swap meet and the Sawmill will provide their great food for us throughout the day. The show is from 7 AM till 3 PM, Saturday, November 23, 2011. Pre-Registration is $20, until Nov. 18th, and $25 the day of the show and all pre-registered entries will be eligible for a Thanksgiving Turkey drawing. This annual event has been held every year with the exception of 2005 (Katrina). Entries had numbered above 100 in years prior to Katrina and have steadily increased in the years since. The show lives up to its theme as we have drawings from entries and raffles throughout the show for Turkeys and prizes including oil changes, tune ups and car gear which are donated by our many Sponsors. There will be a 50/50 drawing held at the conclusion of the event. We have added a Swap Meet to the agenda this year and any registered car or truck can bring automotive items to trade or sell. Non registrants will pay a $15 fee to display their car stuff. The weather usually cooperates with a sunny and mild November day to enjoy the vehicles and visit with fellow gear heads. A live DJ will be spinning oldies for the crowd. Food!! There is always plenty of food. Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks will be available during the event provided by the Sawmill. We added a Rat Rod division in 2011 and the crowds really love these oddities that are salvaged from numerous donor vehicles and crafted into works of art! Dash plaques and goody bags will be given to the first 100 entries. All vehicles will be Judged and awards will be given to the Top 3 Cars, Top 3 Trucks, Top 3 Rat Rods. The remaining cars and trucks will be judged and awards will be given for Best 3 Engines, Best 3 Paint/Exteriors and Best 3 Interiors for each. The Wiggins KC's are a part of an international fraternity of 1.8 million Catholic men whose principle work involves helping others in need. The KC's support youth programs, aids the mentally impaired and assist the less fortunate members of our Wiggins community. Our local council supports the Retardation Center in Wiggins and supplements the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program with clothing. Also donations are made to the youth soccer and baseball programs and to the High School Tennis team. We help our youth with travel expenses for youth leadership conferences, and provide holiday groceries for needy families. All proceeds from this show are used to continue these charitable works. Gulf Coast MotorSports is happy to announce that David Chapman aka “That Chapman Kid” will set up his display at this years Hot Rod Alley during the Emerald Coast Cruizin’. Drawing the iconic hot rods and characters from the Roth and Barris days with his own style didn’t come easy. That took years of practice and a lot of paper. David posted some of his early drawings (when he was about twelve) on his facebook site - That Chapman Kid. You will see just how far he has come since the early days. David is working as a full time graphics artist for a verity of clients designing logos, t-shirts, business designs, etc. and that pays the bills for the young married Chapman family. But he always makes time to return to his story board for another drawing that reminds of us of the early days when “Rat Fink” was king.. 6

Ed and Carolyn met while on a singles cruise and Ed fell head over heels for her. When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few miles apart Ed was ecstatic. He immediately started asking her out when they got home. Within a couple of weeks, Ed had taken Carolyn to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums. Ed became convinced that Carolyn was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last. On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise ship, Ed took Carolyn to a fine restaurant. While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ed said, "I guess you can tell I'm very much in love with you. I'd like a little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage. So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it's only fair to warn you, I'm a total golf nut. I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and breathe golf. If that's going to be a problem for us, you'd better say so now!" Carolyn took a deep breath and responded, "Ed, that certainly won't be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we're being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I've been a hooker." Ed said, "I bet it's because you're not keeping your wrists straight when you hit the ball."

1,500 Vintage Cars Heading For Tampa! Memphis, Tennessee: - 1,500 street rods, customs, muscle cars and street machines will be on hand at the Florida State Fairgrounds this fall as the National Street Rod Association® presents its 26th Annual Southeast Street Rod Nationals Plus. The dates for the city’s largest vintage car show will be October 11, 12, 13, 2013. This will be the 26th time the NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals Plus has been held in Tampa and an all time high number of participants and spectators are expected this year. Almost all of the Florida State Fairgrounds will be utilized for the event as well as many of the buildings, which will house a large number of manufacturer and dealer displays and other attractions. The host organization, NSRA, defines a street rod as a modernized vintage vehicle that must be of pre 1949 manufacture. These vehicles are equipped with the latest options available on the newest model vehicles, including but not limited to disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, and tilt steering wheel. Most of those attending have updated the engine and drive train to enable the owner to cruise down the highway in comfort and safely maintain the speeds traveled by more modern vehicles. All vehicles must be driven on to the grounds.
Included in this event are muscle cars, those factory produced high horsepower machines from the 60’s and 70’s along with the classics cars of the 50’s. This is truly unique mix of old and new together at Florida State Fairgrounds and a national gathering of fine vintage automobiles of every description. The NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals Plus is the area’s largest automotive participation event and spectators from around the area will attend the event. The NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals Plus is an excellent event for spectators to attend and those who take time to attend will be treated to the sights and sounds of some of the most beautiful, best constructed vintage vehicles ever assembled in one place. One of the special attractions for the spectators is that they can walk right up to the vehicles and check each one out close up as they are not roped-off or otherwise confined. All are in the open and can be examined top to bottom, front to back, inside and out. While the exquisite paint and other features of the car should not be touched, spectators are free to look to their heart’s content. Playing in the garden, he noticed an earthworm in his hole. So he pulled the worm out of his hole, and started playing with it. But after a while, he got tired of this worm, so he decides that it's time for the worm to go home. Home being, of course, his hole in the ground. After an hour or so, he still can't get the worm into his hole. Little Johnny's Grandfather was watching him all the time, interested to see what would be the outcome of this. He walks over to Little Johnny and tells him: "Johnny my boy, if you get that worm back in his hole, I'll give you ten bucks." Inspired, Little Johnny thinks for a while, runs into the house, and returns with a can of hairspray. He sprays that little worm with hairspray till it is as solid as a welding rod, and neatly slips it back into the hole, earning himself ten bucks. Next morning, Grandpa walks into the room, and gives Little Johnny a hundred bucks. Little Johnny looks at him and says, "But Grandpa, you already gave me ten bucks!" BONNEVILLE SALT FLAT NEWS… The award for fastest run on the salt has been brought back to Mississippi again this year by George Poteet and the Speed Demon with a run of over 430 mph. I just haven't looked up all the facts and figures yet but it was another great year for George and his crew. We had some members who were there and saw the action. Alan and Amy Hutcheson were there with Hutch working as a part of George's crew. Larry and Barbara Blaylock drove out there to take in the action as well. Whether you're a fan of salt flat high speed trials or not, it's very impressive that a local guy has gone out there and set new records that will be tough to beat. When George first went out there to participate the old timers there saw him as a country boy who wanted to go fast and they nicknamed him “Ricky Bobby” after the movie character. Love it!!! Rey Franco - Went for lunch on opening day and ordered the Green Chilies with Pork. Was so good I had to go back after work for dinner to get me seconds. Good authentic Mexican food Wendy Morreale Roberts - We ate there the other night. It was delicious!!!!
There is a new restaurant that opened in town call “El Agave” You might say “oh no not another Mexican place.” This is more than a Mexican place. El Agave is a upscale restaurant with prices that compare with all of the others. This is the type of restaurant that you would find in the best places in Mexico city and some of the food is the same that you can find in those restaurants. This isn’t your Tex-Mex type of restaurant. For the taco and enchilada lovers, they are on the menu, but also other foods, like Green Chile with pork. I grew up in south New Mexico and we had green sauce on the food. New Mexico raises a lot of green chilies. There are 3 dishes with green sauce and green chilies on their menu, I just like green sauce better than red sauce. The enchilada still come with red sauce for the red sauce fan. For you fire eaters out there try the Diablo Shrimp. The regular Diablo shrimp isn’t bad, BUT if you get the inferno sauce it carries a warning: It is not for persons with heart or respiratory problems. The El Agave menu has rib-eye steak and grilled salmon, and several heart healthy dishes and salads, also there is a children’s section on the menu so there is something for everyone.. A few of you may know the owner of El Agave. His name is Mercedes Carranza, he was the manager of the restaurant that sat on the corner of Hwy 90 and 15th Street before Katrina came to town. He has been helping in a food store here in town and spending time with his children. His said it was very important to him to be there for his children during their growing years. He missed the restaurant business, because he loved the cooking and meeting people. Some of the dishes on the menu he came up with when he cook for his kids and there friends in the backyard. Then one day his wife turned him loose and said go back, which he did. Mercedes tries to help young people out in a lot of ways. One is to put people to work and give them a change if they are willing to work. He said everybody wants someone with experience, but how do you get experience if no one will help you. I looked up the word [agave] on line and found this: It said the word agave in short was meat, drink, clothing and writing material in the Aztec time. I know the meat and drink is correct because I will be going back for some more green chilies and green sauce. Go by and try some of the other Mexican dishes that you don’t find around here very often. Till we eat again. J. R.

Aging Disgracefully By: Kay What's wrong with the younger generation these days? I don't belong to it anymore. If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times. At my age, that's true of everything you can possibly ever say. I used to have Saturday Night Fever ... Now I just have Saturday Night hot flashes. Ever get the feeling your stuff strutted off without you? Any woman can have the body of a 21-year-old ... as long as she buys him a few drinks first. I've still got it, but nobody wants to see it. I'm getting into swing dancing. Not on purpose ... some parts of my body are just prone to swinging. It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker. People our age can still enjoy an active, passionate sex life! Provided we get cable or that dish thing. The good news is that even as we get older, guys still look at our boobs. The bad news is they have to squat down. Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out. These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says, "For fast relief." I think I've reached my sexpiration date. Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches. And for you men reading this… don't let aging get you down ... It's too hard to get back up!
Tornado Hits Coast Buildings That was the headline of the Daily Herald Newspaper in February 1965 and that was the day I decided to cut school at the old Gulfport High. Also that was the day I ended up in this picture and in papers across the nation... seems that the Associated Press picked it up and sent it over the wire. Any way I cut school to work on my car and didn't re-bolt the hood down on a trial run. A tornado came off the gulf and into town. It did some damage to a few business and took my hood and hung it up on the wires for the world to see…. For those of you who live here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast you might recognize some of the buildings in the background. The brick building with the awning is the old Red & White grocery, now O’Reilly’s Auto Parts & the two story building was Cy Rape’s Drug store, now the Kangaroo gas station. “I don't need your help”, I yelled at Sharon sitting in the back seat. She was not the instructor, but felt compelled to throw in her “two cents” of knowledge. Driving with the teacher in the front seat was difficult enough without someone with less experience than me giving advice. I learned to drive a race car when I was four years old. Driver Education should be easy for me…at least the driving part. When I signed up for Driver's Education in high school, I don't think I realized that so much of the course was based upon the classroom. Driving a car was all I was interested in. I couldn't understand why we spent more time studying about driving than we did actually driving. I wanted to be behind the wheel as often as I could. Amos Neyhart, a professor at Penn State University, is credited with starting the first high school driver's education course, which began on February 17, 1934 at a high school in State College, Pennsylvania. Most high school training courses featured instruction with standard shift vehicles. These were used throughout the 1950's. At this time the cars for the courses were leased from local dealers and were equipped with right side foot brakes. Cars with automatic transmissions appeared in the 1960's and 1970's when the local dealerships provided cars free of charge. Four lane roads didn't exist in many areas and passing another vehicle on a two lane road was frequent. Horsepower was important for passing and for climbing steep hills. When that power is achieved, speed is a natural result. Speed was a byproduct for the demand for power. Driver's Ed taught that drivers climbing hills should shift to second gear when speeds dropped to 20 MPH and when going downhill. The students were also schooled on how to drive on ice and snow, not over-driving your headlights at night, road signs, keeping both hands on the wheel at the ten and two position, maintaining the proper distance (safety margin), staying to the right, and using hand signals. In 1936, General Motors produced “We Drivers”. This driver's education film featured Reckless Rudolf and Sensible Sam. This film was used to influence new driver behavior behind the wheel. It was not long before driver's education became compulsory many states. One movie, “Wheel of Tragedy”, was a gory shock film produced by the Ohio State Patrol aimed at scaring students into safe driving behaviors. It featured actual footage of accident scenes showing the dead bodies being removed from the vehicles after actual crashes. “Wild at the Wheel” was another film used extensively in the 1970's to deter hazardous driving. Movies of this type were shown to the students during the classroom portions of the courses. The automobile played an important part of history because of the freedom that it allowed. Young people took advantage and exploited that freedom. Some used the car for carnal attempts at deflowering young innocent women. Others used it for racing endeavors. Whatever the motivation, the cars of our youth were more than just machines… they were our coveted friends. They were a part of the lifestyle and we loved them. I was much too big for my britches when I took driver's education. The classes saved me from the many dangers of the road, though. I am glad Amos Neyhart had the brilliance to recognize the importance of skillful driving. Thank you, Amos. Former Marines Lenny Cestaro and Aaron Showalter leave Anchorage at 5 a.m. Thursday morning to drive a hot-rod, Ford Model A 5window coupe to Arizona. It's a rig to behold and one Cestaro spoke of with love and laughter Tuesday, the specs rolling off his tongue like military designations: 292 Ford Y-block engine from a 1956 Ford F-100, a 1958 2-speed Fordomatic transmission ("And there's a reason why they stopped producin' 'em," Cestaro says), three twobarrrel Holley carburetors. The "Rat" is a low-slung road warrior "custom fabricated through trial and error" that hits its sweet spot between 70 and 80 mph. Cestaro, a federal firearms instructor, and Showalter, a certified diesel mechanic, are having fun, but fun isn't why they're strapping in for 3600 miles and change. They're on a mission. Cestaro recently discovered that Capt. Derek Herrera, one of his old unit commanders, was shot and paralyzed while commanding a special forces operation in Afghanistan's Helmand Province. Cestaro learned that Herrera is trying to remain active duty and to that end is experimenting with a high-tech medical device called an exoskeleton that allows him to walk. Cestaro wants to "yell out enough for people to hear" about his old commander. He shouldn't have to yell much. Just drive.
Do you keep WD-40, hair spray, Off, Fix-A-Flat, etc. in your vehicle? If so, you might want to reconsider. The 1st picture is of a pressurized can that exploded in a person's vehicle and imbedded itself in the back seat of the car. The temperature outside of the closed up vehicle was about 100 degrees F. What if you or a loved one had been sitting in that seat? Do any of your family members keep aerosol cans in their vehicles? If they do, please pass this warning along to them! The 2nd incident pictured happened at a refinery in Beaumont. A deodorant spray can was left in the back of the vehicle that was parked in an open space in the middle of a hot, sunny day. Without warning, the can exploded inside the car. Fortunately, no one was inside or near the car when it happened.
Lesson: Do NOT leave pressurized containers (of any kind) in your vehicle where they can be exposed to sunlight! You should always read and follow the manufacturer's safety recommendations that come with the can. Thousands Busted in CA for DWT By: Tony Barthel - Curbside.TV More than 57,000 drivers were ticketed for handheld cell phone talking or texting during April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety and the California Highway Patrol. The citations written by CHP officers as well as over 250 local law enforcement agencies across the state match the number handed to drivers in last year’s April campaign. The monthly number of cell phone tickets outside of this special high visibility enforcement averages 36,000 violations. More than 3,500 citations were handed out for other types of distracted driving violations. The Office of Traffic Safety also announced that the percentage of drivers actively using cell phones at any one time in the state dropped from 10.8 percent in 2012 to 7.4 percent in 2013, nearly returning to the baseline 2011 total of 7.3 percent. The largest drop, 33 percent, was from those holding a cell phone to their ear, the report said. Really, people still do this? Of course I saw a CHP officer doing this so I guess it's still a practice. Two words - Blue. Tooth. Okay, that's one word. The information was contained in the third annual cell phone observational survey conducted in March by OTS through the UC Berkeley Safe Transportation Research and Education Center. The results are likely the low-end indicators due to the short, limited view observation of whether a driver was using a phone, especially for texting. “We are very encouraged to see the usage figures decline, especially after the increase last year,” said OTS Director Christopher J. Murphy. “But any number is too high, since any usage of cell phones while driving takes away too much of our brain’s ability to react to what’s happening on the road, not to mention when our hands or eyes are disengaged also.” Law enforcement agencies from across the state joined in the high visibility enforcement efforts of the April campaign. Officers have been witness to the ever increasing number of crashes in recent years due to cell phone use and other distracted driving. Participating agencies came together for two area-wide concentrated enforcement days during the month as well as smaller city-wide enforcement days. “The month of April is behind us, however, distracted driving awareness education and enforcement continues for law enforcement statewide,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “Inattention while driving is a dangerous behavior with potentially deadly consequences. Motorists, especially parents with impressionable children in the vehicle, are strongly encouraged to practice safe, legal driving behaviors. Lives depend on it.” Over and above the enforcement efforts, the “It’s Not Worth It!” campaign continued to make drivers and the public aware of the dangers of distracted driving, as well as the high cost of tickets, through Caltrans changeable message signs over highways, DMV messaging in field offices, plus internet, social media and other outreach. Costs for violating the cell phone laws start at $162 for the first offense and $285 for subsequent offenses. Other violations for actions that can be classified as distracted driving can range even higher. More important are the hundreds killed and thousands seriously injured every year due to drivers thinking they can operate a vehicle safely while engrossed in talking or texting on a cell phone. Blushing, he said, 'Well, thankya, ma'am. Ah'm real pleased. Ain't nobody ever paid me fer mah services before.' 'Don't be flattered she said...... Take the money and buy yourself some boots that fit...'
Here's some little known history for you ... Bet this is one of those "I didn't know that" moments ...... This Really Exists. Giant Concrete Arrows That Point Your Way Across America‌ Every so often, usually in the vast deserts of the American Southwest, a hiker or a backpacker will run across something puzzling: a large concrete arrow, as much as seventy feet in length, Sitting in the middle of scrub-covered nowhere. What are these giant arrows? Some kind of surveying mark? Landing beacons for flying saucers? Earth's turn signals? No, it's...The remnants of the Transcontinental Air Mail Route. On August 20, 1920, the United States opened its first coast-to-coast airmail delivery route, just 60 years after the Pony Express closed up shop. There weren't any good aviation charts in those days, so pilots had to eyeball their way across the country using landmarks. This meant that flying in bad weather was difficult, and night flying was just about impossible. The Postal Service solved the problem with the world's first ground-based civilian navigation system: a series of lit beacons that would extend from New York to San Francisco. Every ten miles, pilots would pass a bright yellow concrete arrow. Each arrow would be surmounted by a 51-foot steel tower and lit by a million-candlepower rotating beacon. (A generator shed at the tail of each arrow powered the beacon.) Now mail could get from the Atlantic to the Pacific not in a matter of weeks, but in just 30 hours or so. Even the dumbest of air mail pilots, it seems, could follow a series of bright yellow arrows straight out of a Tex Avery cartoon. By 1924, just a year after Congress funded it, the line of giant concrete markers stretched from Rock Springs, Wyoming to Cleveland, Ohio. The next summer, it reached all the way to New York, and by 1929 it spanned the continent uninterrupted, the envy of postal systems worldwide. Radio and radar are, of course, infinitely less cool than a concrete Yellow Brick Road from sea to shining sea, but I think we all know how this story ends. New advances in communication and navigation technology made the big arrows obsolete, and the Commerce Department decommissioned the beacons in the 1940s. The steel towers were torn down and went to the war effort. But the hundreds of arrows remain. Their yellow paint is gone, their concrete cracks a little more with every winter frost, and no one crosses their path much, except for coyotes and tumbleweeds. But they're still out there.

SILVER BULLET TAKES A SHOT By: Steve Kanter Well, this is October, and that means that we are back from our Bonneville trip. Yup, We went to Bonneville this year to establish a new record in A/GMS. The crew of Bucket List Racing this year was Dan Tackett (owner/driver), Greg Burge (chief mechanic), and Steve Kanter (crew chief). Our car is the Silver Bullet, which is a modified 1954 Corvette. The A/GMS record is 259.829mph, and we planned to beat this record. Our goal was 260mph! But first the rest of the story. We picked up our chief Mechanic, and got on the road at 8pm. What a ride it was. First off, we were told that "its only a thirty hour drive to Bonneville". No it isn't. Actually, it's a 42 hour drive. The rides not bad though, and it goes faster than you think. But we had some problems on the way, and because of this, the trip to Bonneville took us over sixty hours. And that was starting to get a bit long, but we made it.
Bonneville, what an experience. To begin with, the surface (salt) is brilliant white, the air temperature is hot, but the humidity is only about 8%, so it doesn't seem as hot as it really is. The racing area is huge, I mean really huge. This year they were running four tracks (sometimes three at a time). Each track is 100 feet wide, and each track is separated from the adjoining track by 100 feet. Three of the tracks are five miles long with two miles of lead in, one track is three miles long with one mile of lead in, all tracks have at least two miles of shut down area. The track area alone encompasses a very large piece of real estate. Our pit area, from the tracks, towing the race car at twenty miles per hour, took us over twenty minutes to get there. Twenty minutes to go from the pit area to the track, think about that for a moment, and you begin to realize just how large an area the Bonneville Salt Flats really are. Also keep in mind that this is just the racing area, which is really a small part of the salt. worked perfectly. The guys at BTE were eager to help us, and had the torque converter designed, built, and delivered to us on time. In April of this year we took the car to the Ohio Mile and set a record in A/GMS. Wow, a record the first time out, cool. We were excited about our prospect of Bonneville. We were on a roll. But to do 260mph, meant that we needed an engine that would spin to 8500 rpm. Enter Tim Scarborough, of Scarborough Engines. Tim built us a 500 cubic inch "Chevrolet" engine using a Merlin block, aluminum heads, and top shelf internals, that spins to 8500 rpm! Tim did a great job! Gary Williams, of Williams Carburetors-Hot Rods-and Motorcycles (1-601-939-5861), provided us with two custom built 1050 Dominators, and a custom built tunnel ram manifold to feed our big block. If carburetors and a manifold can be viewed as art, they were beautiful, and performed without any problems. After settling in, getting the car to tech for inspection, doing some minor modifications brought to our attention by the tech inspectors, we were ready to race. In the pits we did some last minute tuning, cranked the engine to check it, and it sounded great. To get to the five mile track, you first have to go to the three mile track, and do at least 175mph by the 2.25 mile marker. Dan took a blast down the track, Greg and I jumped into the support truck, and turned on the radio to hear the announcer, who said "car 255 147mph". Greg and I looked at each other in silent disbelief, and a bit confused. We were not prepared for this result. At the pit, we tried to figure out what the problem was, I even called Robert Greenburg of Top Performance (1-228-832-4837) to get his opinion, who gave excellent advice. We made some adjustments, went back out to the track, and had the same results. We tried a few more times, but got the same results. The Silver Bullet wouldn't run over 147mph. But we did learn a lot about the car. It handles great, goes straight, and is smooth going over the salt. When the chute is deployed, it doesn't upset the attitude of the car in any way. We learned that our cooling system worked very well, and all other mechanical aspects of the car worked as designed. The fact that everything worked as designed was very rewarding. We packed up and left early. The 42 hour ride home allowed us to talk about the car and its speed problem. Dan explained that the car would accelerate to 6000rpm, but then drop to 4000rpm. If he took his foot out of the throttle then floored it, the car would rev to 6000rpm. We deduced that the car was actually running out of gas. The problem, we concluded, was that we had used to small of a fuel line. In speaking with Tim and Gary, Both of them recommended using a #12 fuel line to feed the Dominators. The #8 fuel line we chose just couldn't keep up with the demand to feed the carbs.

The club secretary, Mike Paolella, emailed me back stating that they were indeed the same club and wondered if maybe they had something to do with my love of old cars and thus having a street rod. Our communication and friendship started with that. Mike said he read my e-mail to the club at their normal Thursday night meetings. time for everyone. I hung around talking and looking at all the memorabilia and pictures from their 50 plus years as a club that are proudly displayed on all the meeting room walls. Most every member has a nice shot of their car framed on a wall somewhere. My evening was over and I was very glad to have the opportunity to spend an evening with this club. Oh, back to those kids on bicycles for a minute. Paul bought a '57 Chevy Bel Air in 1962. It was raced well into the 60's & early Paul's '57 at Dragway 42, West Salem, Ohio circa 1965 70's lettered up as “The Gold Getter” first then re-done in a nice blue color. He bought a 1966 Impala station wagon as a special order with a 427, 4-speed and 4:56 positraction rear end. He still has both cars. Paul was my best man in 1964 and had married my sister in 1962 so we are brothers-in-law too for 50 years. As for me I have a 1969 Roadrunner that I bought new in '69, and also have my 1936 Plymouth street rod with a 350700R4 combination and it is pink and white with “Sweet & Low” across the trunk. This is our 1968 Camaro, we drove this on the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour. From a very young age I have always had a love for cars. I would draw pictures of the ones I liked and dream of one day owning my own. Not long ago the opportunity to own my very own muscle car arose. My hunt was on. I decided it didn't matter how far I had to drive to get what I wanted. I searched everywhere; magazines, car shows, Internet, and on Sunday drives. Finally I found this car in Orlando, Fl. One of the best days of my life was when I loaded the car on my car hauler and headed for home. I ended up with a 68 Camaro resto-mod. It has a 350 HO crate motor with a 700 r4 transmission. My wife and I enjoy using the car for what it was built for, "To Drive"..... This past June (2013) we were able to join Hot Rod magazine on the Hot Rod Power Tour. This is a true test for a 44 year old car without a doubt. We are always looking for somewhere to take the car to enjoy, and we really enjoy looking at other cars also. On August 3rd my worst dream came true, as we were heading to Flint Creek Waterpark for the Red Creek Classic Cruisers' old car appreciation day. I was driving down Hwy 26 when a "turkey", yes a dang turkey, flew up in front of us and decided to commit suicide in my grill. Sick to my stomach my wife asked me " are we still going to the car show" I replied, “with out a doubt we are going.” As I said before we bought and built the car to drive and I was going to show it busted grill and all. It still makes me sick that it happened but you know what? It is a memory I will never forget. I have given KARS Unlimited the major task of repairing the car and most of all "match the paint". From seeing his work I know they are up to the task. I hope to have it fixed for Cruising the Coast, so we will have the fun of enjoying what we love most about the car. Jason & Suzette Graham

On July 1, 1971 Judy Enfield of Kalona, Iowa took possession of her new 1971 Dodge Challenger (named her BETSY) which she had special ordered from Hartwig Motors of Iowa City, Iowa. On August 3, 1971 I met Chuck Houdesheldt of Keosauqua, Iowa, engaged on Valentine's Day in 1972 and married on June 3, 1972. We presently live in Blue Grass, Iowa and still have the 71' Dodge Challenger (Betsy) with the original bill of sale, Judy's cancelled check, the original build sheet and many other documents, pictures, manuals and memorabilia. The 71' was a JPC (just plain Challenger) with a 318 engine, white exterior with optional chrome/black side molding and white interior seats, door panels, back seat sides, headline and visors. Early in May of 2011 we realized we were coming upon the 40th anniversary of the 71'Challenger and our original meeting and wedding anniversary in 2012. We decided to try and locate a new 2011 Dodge Challenger as close as possible to Betsy and take possession on July 1, 2011 which would be 40 years to the day. We went back to Hartwig Motors, now Deery Motors, who had nothing to match our wishes. They did a search for several hundred miles but found nothing. They indicated that it was probably too late to order and be assured of taking possession on 7/1/2011 so we contacted another dealer which told us the same thing. Judy then went to the internet and searched the entire nation and only found ONE that matched what we wanted. It was a plain while Dodge Challenger Rallye and it was located at Egolf of Hendersonville, NC. She called and began
talking with a sales professional by the name of Brandon Lance who became very impressed with our story so he and the dealership began working with us. Brandon called us back the following morning and stated: "I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is we no longer have the car at our dealership. Good news is that we can get it back!" Unbeknown to Brandon, the new car sales manager, Joby Stephens had released the vehicle to a dealer on the North Carolina coast. So within the next 10 days the two of them proceeded to work together to get the car brought back to Hendersonville. The original title showed the transfer from Egolf Motors and back! To match the 71' we sent interior and exterior pictures of BETSY so that Egolf Motors could work with their detailer to provide a white leather interior that came very close to match the 71' plus two small black stripes front to back on the sides to match BETSY. The 2011 has a sun roof and several electronics that obviously were not on the 71'. With many phone/e-mail discussion between Joby, Brandon and us, it resulted in an agreement to purchase the vehicle on two main conditions: 1) the new vehicle would match BETSY as close as possible and 2) the bill of sale would show July 1, 2011 which is 40 years to the day from Judy purchasing BETSY. Throughout, Eglof Motors made every effort to ensure our requests. We would recommend their organization to anyone. On June 28th, we left for Hendersonville in our 2004 Toyota which we traded on the 2011 Challenger. We arrived in Hendersonville on

the 29th. Due to an unforeseen situation, Brandon was unable to be with us on the 30th so we met with the owners Joby and Jay Egolf to view our new 2011 and complete the last minute details. On July 1, 2011 which was 40 years to the day we took possession of our new 2011 Dodge Challenger which we have licensed as PLUS 40. We spent July 1-3rd in Hendersonville during which time we were able to meet with Brandon 2x before leaving to return home. The rest of the summer we enjoyed attending several car shows & cruiseins showing our "twins" which turned many heads along the way! Judy even got dubbed "Challenger Girl" by a spectator and she like that! In the fall of 1971 one of our 1st dates was to drive BETSY to the Iowa State Fair and spend the day. So this year on August 19th we drove PLUS 40 back and spent the day. Another day trip that fall was to NE Iowa and SW Wisconsin to view the fall foliage. We are both now retired and this year we were able to spend 3 days viewing the foliage, frequenting antique/craft shops and enjoying the fall weather cruising in PLUS 40. One final irony‌.upon our return from Hendersonville we were organizing all the paperwork we had received on July 1st. it appears that Joby Stephens had place the order for the car that was to become PLUS 40 on December 6, 2010 which is Chuck's birthday. Hey Y'all, I have to tell ya, I found our truck quite by accident. My wife and I were looking for a “classic car”, or truck when we happen to come across this; A 2005 Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab, aka “The Viper Truck”. It fit all of our criteria. Something we can take to car shows and Cruise-ins, a 4 door to handle our kids and still being unique. The truck is a blast to drive!! The truck has many Dodge Viper inspired features; most notable is the 505, 500hp, Viper engine it sports under the hood. It also has 22” polished aluminum rims, leather and suede SRT seats, 8 speaker Infinity sound system, and a very intimidating looking hood with the SRT Viper style hood scoop. We have added a few modifications to make it our own; a Leer bed cover, Bed Rug carpet in the bed, updated floor mats, a Roe Racing throttle body, a K&N drop-in filter, an Optima red top battery. Other modifications will be coming in the future. Owning this truck has also allowed me join Deep South Mopars. I am President of the Gulfport Chapter. I have met some really great people the 3 years we have owned this truck. The truth is, most of the events we go to, are found right here in your magazine. Keep up the good work! Randy Kelly from Carnes, Mississippi sent us pictures of his latest project. Although still under construction, here is a couple of pictures of my 1984 Pontiac Fiero. Randy has converted the Fiero into a K.I.T.T. car. “I obtained the parts off a stunt car and incorporated them into the Fiero. It is voice interactive, has front camera, rear camera, smokescreen, it will also interact with you. It has the original 2.5 Iron Duke 4 cylinder engine and 4 speed transmission.” All the work to transform the Fiero into K.I.T.T. is being done by Randy.

Here's a little about my car: I purchased the car from a friend about 30 years ago for $800.00. I drove it back and forth to work for a while. After going to Cruisin the Coast in 2008, we decided to restore it and have it ready for the Cruisin the Coast the next year. We finished it one week before Cruisin the Coast in 2009. The restoration started with a frame off and sand blasting. We completely replaced most of the interior. The front seats came out of a 1995 Cadillac and we used the original seat for the back. Gulf Coast Trim and Upholstery created the interior for us, including building the console, the door panels and custom door pulls. Since we weren't restoring it back to original condition, we ordered a custom steering wheel with flames from True Custom Steering Wheels. The bottom portion of the steering wheel has the words "At Last" hidden in the bottom flames. They also created the chrome flame pedal covers. Our license plate says "At Last" and we drive around listening to Etta James sing her famous "At Last" song. The paint is Banana Pearl with glitter added to it, finished with a coat of pearl. A lot of the exterior trim was replaced along with the window glass and the front and rear bumpers. We finished with a set of Chip Foose wheels and new tires. We used the original motor for several years, blew a rocker arm in to and replaced it with a 350 motor out of a dirt track racing car in 2011. My wife and I have enjoyed the process so much and have gone to every Cruisin the Coast since 2009. We also took it to many of the local car shows. Bobby Hall

That was 27 years ago! Fast forward to 2013 and some of the same somewhat older teenagers are still cruising. Although it’s not officially a cruise-in, or even a planed event sponsored by the city, classic cars still cruise into Long Beach to take a cruise down memory lane. Guess it couldn’t be a better time. Long Beach has completed their new Town Hall, the town green park is finished, new restaurants have opened and life is coming back to the town. IS IT GREEN ? When Mike and Kathy Hanephin, of Biloxi, Mississippi, cruise past in their 1946 Chevrolet, you might ask. “Is it green?”. Well, you would be right. The color is PPG's Vibrance Collection,' Is It Green', provided by Pro Color in Picayune, MS. The '46 goes from a deep emerald green to a rich blue, but unlike the earlier “flip flop” paints changing from one color to another one, the Vibrance fades through a madrid of colors to change. The interior is just as nice featuring leather, ostrich, and blue python, by Stewart's Kustom, in McCalla, Alabama. The wood is Wabbit Wood, custom done for the car. Keeping tabs on things is Dakota Digital's, VHX series digital gauges, with analog faces and blue backlighting, matching the numerous blue accent lights inside. In addition to the normal things gauges let you know, these also monitor fuel pressure and transmission temperature. Keeping things cool is Vintage Air's Gen Four digital a/c, heat and defrost, which also supplies air to the back seat thru the console. Pioneers Pandora supplies the tunes from XM to ipod, with navigation and back up camera. Other feature's that enhance the cruise are automatic headlight with delay, retained accessories that keeps the tunes coming until you open the door. Remotes for the doors, windows and trunk, and six way electric heated seats. It doesn't just look good, it goes good. Powered by a Scott Shafiroff Ultra Street 427 ci small block, topped with Fast fuel injection, it dyno'd at 568 horse's and 588 foot pounds of torque at 4200 rpm. Delivering the power to the Strange 9” Ford rear-end is a Bowtie Overdrive 765R4 Transmission, rated at 800 hp. To keep control of things the '46 sits on a modified Art Morrison triangulated 4 link chassis, smoothed and filled before painted with PPG's Daytona Blue. With Wilwood 12 inch four wheel disc brakes and adjustable Stange coil overs all the way around, sitting on the Nitto NT 55S P255x50xZR18 on the rear and Nitto NT55S P245x45xZR17 on the front, this baby screams along with the feel of sports car. An Adventure Trip I received a call from Jimbo asking if I would like to participate in a photo shoot at a custom rod shop in Picayune, Mississippi. They had a special 1946 custom Chevrolet they wanted to highlight. Being the adventurous person that I am, I replied: “Sure!” Jimbo set the shoot up on a Monday with B and B motor sports. Why a Monday Jimbo? I shuffled my schedule around and was able to squeeze it into my calendar. I had an idea... and got on the horn to my good friend Kane McMellon. Kane is the president and founder of our photography club called Rats and Cats Kustoms. I thought it would be a fantastic idea for us to include video footage of the shoot. He quickly agreed and I called Jimbo to present the idea to Barry Barone, owner of B and B. Everyone was on board and we all made arrangements for the shoot. Sunday came quick and our adventure was just around the corner. Kane and another club member, Dain arrived at my house in Louisiana. We couldn’t just sit around the day before the big shoot, so of course we schedule another photo-shoot with one of Gulf Coast MotorSports cover girls, Kayla Joy. We did a pinup video of her with my 1950 Ford coupe and a couple of friends of hers and their bikes. We had a blast doing it, and were able to keep our nervousness of the upcoming shoot at bay. Morning arrived and we woke at the crack of dawn for our trip to Mississippi. We ate a quick bite of breakfast, bought some delicious Boudin balls to share with our new friends, and headed East. We thought we would never arrive, but soon we pulled into B&B Motorsports. Our first view was a huge area with a pond and a bunch of classic cars and hot rods all lined up. What a nice view, I thought!
Jimbo was there already in action getting our model for the day, Jeanne, set up for us. We parked and stepped out of our vehicle. Introductions were made and with no hesitation, we followed a B&B staff member to the waiting golf cart. He had a ladder in the back of the cart and we were off to the front of the property. Wow! I thought. What a set-up! Kane and I got into position and started shooting, Dain right behind us with the Gopro camera. We shot the front of the B & B building across the pond then moved onto individual shots of the cars. Kane and I got to work posing Jeanne, our model for the day, in different positions with the cars.

After a couple of hours at the shop, Mr. Barry told us to get ready, we were heading to town to shoot in front of city hall! We arrived at the Picayune City Hall and got the VIP treatment. Officers were on hand to block cars from coming in and they even barricaded the two entrances. Boy, did we feel special! Kane, Dain and I started shooting aerial shots from a ladder, ground shots from every angle we could think of.. We even had some fun with the officers and had them pose with Jeanne, pretending that she was getting a ticket. I told her, “run like you are a fugitive!” Of course, she did just that. We all had a laugh and wrapped the city hall shoot. Next, we went to the paint store, Pro Color, where Barry and his crew purchase their paint for all of their projects. We took some great shots in front of their store. Traffic slowed to a crawl as drivers took in the camera crew and all the people around the car. After all of that work (Fun), Barry asked who was hungry. We all immediately replied, “Me!” For lunch, we went to a place called Crescent Cafe. This restaurant was a quant little joint, with a big delivery. The food was...well...to die for! They served fried shrimp po-boys, fried green tomatoes and every delectable thing you could imagine. Thank you Barry! We ate and talked for over an hour, then it was time to head back to the shop. It started to rain as we were leaving the cafe and we wanted to take some photos of the ’46 in www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

We thought we were going to have enough time before the big downpour, wrong, it caught up to us! But we got a few shots in, before we had to tuck our cameras under our shirts and make a run for it! Back at the shop, we took a few more photos of the car with Barry then he gave us the grand tour and explained how the B&B team takes care of the customers vehicles and keeps track of things. The day was ending and we definitely had a great time at B & B Motor sports in Mississippi. We said our goodbyes and headed home. Kane, Dain and I looked at our work all the way home and talked about our plans for the photos and video. Oh....and I have to thank, John for being our chauffeur on this grand adventure! ~~Neecy Cobb
I asked Coast Cruizer Jeanne Firmin if she would like to stop by and meet us at a photo shoot we were doing at custom car shop not to far from where she lived. I knew Jeanne had a great appreciation for a finely tuned motor. She said, “Horsepower has always fascinated me whether it be a street rod, motorcycle or a great working horse.” Prior to Katrina she enjoyed street rodding and even had a 2003 Anniversary Edition Harley Low-rider. All that was lost in Katrina. She spent the next few years without a street rod or a bike. After attending a local car show, all that changed. “I knew what was I was missing and shortly after that show I bought a ‘57 Chevy Belair which I really enjoy.” Jeanne also is a business owner. She took an existing business that did custom etched glass, rhinestone shirts, and jewelry and geared it to fit into the car world. You may have even received a custom glass award etched with the club logo on it that came from her shop. And the ladies really like her selection of custom made shirts and jewelry.. She sure was surprised when I said, “Hey Jeanne stand by the car and let us get a picture of you.” ……… Jimbo

As Vintage Air dealers they will sell you a complete A/C, heat defrost unit for less than you can buy it from Vintage Air. And have the skill to install it in your car professionally. When rewiring a car B&B uses American Autowire, preferring it over others due the higher heat tolerances of its insulation. "When we start rewiring, the first thing we do is remove all the old wire, then starting from a new fuse block we work our way out replacing every wire. Our wiring may take a little longer, but we solder and heat shrink every connection for superior conductivity over merely crimping" says Barry. With the prices of fuel going up B&B is doing more fuel injection conversions. "Most carburetors just can not stand up to ethanol in today's fuels. Fuel injection has been developed with that problem in mind. Being able to offer over three hundred horsepower and 26 miles per gallon makes many a customer able to enjoy their rides more everyday with less problems" says Barry. Many parts, especially body parts are no longer available, but the fabricators at B&B will make whatever is needed, often times coming up with one of parts, giving the customer a truly unique ride. This is what it takes to do what we do, to face a problem, sit down as team and discuss it, come up with ways to overcome it. Then as they say, “Just do it, " say's Barry. Terry Mason’s The quiet summertime car show season has come to an end as the fall car show season explodes on to the scene. The Coast Cruizers had our regular 1st Saturday of the month cruise-in for September, it’s the warm-up for our biggest cruise-in of the year in October. September 7 we had over 100 cars, gave away some killer door prizes and our 50/50 was over $500, a pretty good night for a 3 hour cruise-in. It’s important because we’ll wrap up the season with our Mega Cruize-in at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi on Saturday night October 12, the final night of Cruisin The Coast. We move our cruize-in from the 1st Saturday night of the month to the 2nd Saturday Night for the Mega Cruize-in. The Mega Cruize-in is a whopper, we’ll have over 1,000 cars, our Mega 50/50 pot will be huge, (last year our pot was over $1,500, our goal is $2,000 this year) our sponsors load us down with door prizes, (we’ll give away about 5 door prizes every 20 minutes) nice door prizes, every one worth $20 to $50 or more in value. Our sponsors have been amazing, the Coast Cruizers are now well known for the quality of our door prizes and the size of our 50/50, of course the music is not too bad either, ;). For the Mega Cruize-in you’ll want to get in and get parked early, early early on the west side of the mall, inside the barricades. We’ll start setting up at 5:00 pm and we’ll try to be ready to go at 5:30 or so. Our Mega Cruize-in is from 6-9 pm.
This year’s Cruisin The Coast looks like it will be another record breaker as around 7,000 registered cars are expected. It’s hard for the locals to realize how big this coast event has become. We kind of take the show for granted. For the locals it’s tough to take vacation days and never leave town, but it’s like living in a candy store for 7 days and we get to sleep in our own beds. From Hardy Court and downtown Gulfport kicking the show off on Sunday, until the Coast Cruizer’s wrap it up on Saturday night in Biloxi it’s a whirlwind week. Another thing that will make Cruisin The Coast special for me this year is that my brother is coming in for his first show here with his car. He will be able to experience what I’ve been telling him about for years, that’ll make the event so special for me.

As soon as we recover from Cruizin the Coast in October, it’s time to head down to the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches in Panama City Beach, FL for Emerald Coast Cruizin. Emerald Coast Cruizin will be November 4-9 and is a very special show because all the cars are in one location. With Cruizin the Coast you have 7,000 cars, but they are scattered over 30 miles and five cities. In PC they’ll have around 2,000 cars and you get to see ‘em all. With that many cars in one spot it’s a great show. Emerald Coast Cruizin is big and it’s getting bigger every year. Terry Mason’s Hot Rod Show music will be back, the Vicari Auto Auction is also back. There’s a beautiful new event site next door to incredible shopping for the ladies. More bands and a larger parade highlight this year’s show.
On a personal note…I’m a big Alabama Football fan, have been for 50 years or more. This year a friend of ours, who is also friends of the coach, had set us up with tickets to see the Alabama-LSU game including a visit to meet the players and coach before the game. As I am writing this month’s column and checking dates, I discovered that the AlabamaLSU game is on November 9, the same day as Emerald Coast Cruizin, so I’ll have to catch the game another time because I will not miss Emerald Coast Cruizin! It’s that good a show. As the weather starts to cool down and the fall car show season starts to crank up in full gear, get that classic you have sitting in the garage out, dust it off and attend a great car show event so you too can enjoy that 17 FOREVER Hot Rod style of life! I have been stepping out of my comfort zone lately with movie genre choices and I'm proud of myself for trying something new. I have also been reminded of why I have a comfort zone in the first place! I'm sure Hollywood has put out some great scary movies and great car chase thrillers but I must have picked the wrong ones. Don't worry, I won't slam them to hard, just enough to send a message to the man. And the message is.....we need better story lines and more dialogue, Less blow them up, crash them up or stab them, uh, well you know what I mean. Here we go with a slash fest titled "You're Next". It was directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett. The genre is horror, rated R and has a run time of 1hr 34m. It stars Sharni Vinson, Joe Swanberg, AJ Bowen and Nicholas Tucci. I don't recognize these actors names but maybe they are big in the horror/thriller world. I wonder if Tucci is related to, well, you have to start somewhere. Plenty of big box-office names started in this type of film. Johnny Depp and Kevin Bacon both were eliminated early in the scripts of there first movies by a horrific act of terror. Maybe the magic will happen for some of the early kills (new term for actors characters that don't make the final curtain, so to speak!) from this happy tale of horror. The film is set in a secluded house in the woods. So far, so tired. Their are a few neat twist in the story but most of it has been used so much it's not worth repeating. The main story is about a dysfunctional family getting together to celebrate their father's retirement and this party goes wrong fast. There was not much set up time before the faux blood hit the wall. In most of these movies you can tell who will be killed first and that is part of the fun. They did not disappoint all you "early kill" enthusiasts. What I did like about the story is that a female takes charge and tries to protect the innocent from sure and painful death by knife, sledge hammer, cross bow, you name it. The other interesting twist in this you might not guess who the bad guy is. I can't say much more or I will give the ending away and that is not good in this business. If you are a fan of old school slasher fare, do go see this. If you are a fan of horror where suspense comes from creative writing and masterful camera work with top notch acting, not who is hiding in the closet or under the bed, hit Netflix up or red box for the Exorcist. I give this, I give this movie 4 out of 10 pics. Every chance I get I like to give my editor a shout out and catch a good "car chase" movie. I was glad to see one such film called Getaway. The director is Courtney Solomon. The script was written by Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker. The genre is action and the movie is rated PG 13 with a run time of 1hr 30m. It stars Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez and Jon Voight. Right off the bat, the title is real familiar to gear heads and film buffs. The classic Steve McQueen (my personal action/style guru) film titled Getaway had me hoping for a good remake but this is another turbo charged tale of Detroit steel doing the deed. This film has all the ingredients needed for success, a bad ass Colby powered Ford Mustang, a tortured anti hero driving it and the bad guys chasing him. They even had a tip of their hat to the classic getaway with one of the bad guys driving a contemporary Dodge Charger. Hope that sounds familiar to everybody around my age! I was kind of wondering about the choice of Selena Gomez as a costar. I guess she is hot in Hollywood right now and maybe she can bring in some preteen and tween ticket money. I tried not to laugh at the sight of her pulling a gun on Hawkes he stops at a redlight and trying to steal his ride. Being a cute, petite ex Disney star will put the fear of God in any anti hero tryin’ to drive fast and save the day. I think the gun she poked in Hawke's face weighed more than she does! The basic story is Hawke's character is an ex race driver who is forced to still a car and drive through a series of high speed driving test in order to save the life of his kidnapped family. Cameras are set up everywhere in the car and also the bad guy has a computer aided lock down on all city stop lights etc. In the story, Hawke has no idea who has it out for him and gets
phone calls telling him where to go and what to do. If he doesn't complete the task by a certain time frame, his wife will surely be killed. The plot is not real easy to figure out and I did enjoy the high speed stunts without the aid of green screens and computer magic. What I didn't enjoy was the now, tired and used too much quick edit style of movie making. I know it's probably hard to work up a good, believable dialogue with a race car driver and a tween star but enough with the color treatments and the five camera swap backs. It must be hard to drive that Mustang with Raybans on when everything is a unnatural shade of green during daylight. Forget it when it gets dark. Not being able to see the face of the evil genius behind the evil plan keeps you guessing who he is and why he puts Mr. Hawke in harms hi speed way. I know that most people enjoy this action genre for the action not the chit chat. But I think they did a good job with the sub plot but it would have been nice to more character back story. It is good to see Ethan Hawke back on the big screen and Ms, Gomez held her own with the veteran actors. Guess who the bad guy is? I wont give that away but a good hint is that he has a famous actress for a daughter and has won an academy ward. They should have spent more time showing the audience Jon Voights reasons for being the heavy and why he is so mean to his costars. Well, this isn't a Woody Allen film so no time on the couch winning about things. It's time to drive hard! On a personal note, I used to be a Mustang fan but the new RT Charger is my current choice for boss muscle car. I hope someone at the Dodge corporation reads this and needs a new spokesperson because I'm available. I will give this fun car flick 6 out of 10 pics. Speaking of Woody Allen, I had the privilege of seeing his latest release, Blue Jasmine. I was going to review it this month but will save it for a later column. The reason, because I was side tracked by something that as on TV while I was researching for this month's review. The Last Picture Show is one of my all time favorite movies from the 70's. If you haven't seen it you are missing out on a modern classic. It was shot in black and white during the multi color crazy 1970's and set in a bleak, dying small town in Texas. What a master piece. Co written and directed by Peter Bogdanovich it is a perfect example of a character/dialogue driven film. I'm no movie snob, I don't really care for black and white movies but this one covers all the basis of what a drama should be. This film was hot in 1970 and some of it's stars have gone on to be major stars at one time or another. I really like the work of Cybil Sheppard as a spoiled brat looking for something more in a town that can't give her anything. Also, Jeff Bridges plays an cool but unlikeable high schooler who is shallow in character and doesn't come through for his best friend who is played by Timothy Bottoms. His is the main character and the story is told through his easy going, naive journey through a Texas roughneck oil town where cowboys are real and you can't be anything but a hard ass if you want to be successful. This is one of the best soundtrack and song choice's for any movie ever made. It's all real country music, Hank Williams leads the list of old school country songwriters who push this story right along a great pace. Better than any rock and roll movie soundtrack ever put to a movie score. If you haven't seen it, watch it. If you haven't seen it in awhile, watch it again. Tons of great acting and great story telling lets give this film 9 out of 10 pics. by: Lynn Makua I got up this morning at about 5:30 a.m., it was still dark out (no rain) but “Easy” was in the kitchen waiting by her feeder for breakfast. I bought this feeder in case we didn’t make it home for a night or two. This morning it only needed a cup to fill it. So, after filling it I went to the stove to fix my breakfast (Chili & Rice). I bet you thought I was going to say “Spam, Rice & Eggs”! In Hawaii Chili & Rice is another favorite breakfast, especially when you go to the beach early in the morning. I look over and “Easy” was eating the “fresh” out of the top, not the usual that come out the bottom. It was there in the tray but “oh no” she went for the fresh! I shrugged it off, went into the bedroom closet and slipped on my Levi Mini Skirt and a Hawaiian Dark Blue Blouse (I was in the Hawaiian mood) with purple and white flowers on it. I don’t own any pants, just shorts and mini-skirts. I looked out the kitchen window, (over the top of “Easy” who was laying on “her shelf”) that Larry had built. The sand on the back acre (we don’t believe in grass) made me remember

Makaha. This is the town that is 21 miles north of Waikiki Beach. The Makua Ranch is on the way there. I had tears when I left and still have them if I think about it. We lived there on the 6th floor, on the beach, with the Lanai looking out at the ocean and to the left was the 50’ swimming pool for the property. The 1969 XR7 you see for sale in the attached flyer (black and white) was parked downstairs. It’s been 13 years but we are going to visit in December or January. That’s when the tourists are few, and cocktails are priced right! Since we are talking about Hawaii let me tell you a story about Chili & Rice. We got up early one morning to go the North Shore. The champion Surfers (from all over the world) were going to be there. We get to the beach and are starving. We wait and sure enough here comes the food truck with chili and rice! Sorry y’all no grits. Here is a picture of Waikiki, the beachboys, and the sport of surfing made the cover of the December 15, 1938, issue of Vogue magazine. He said my fondest (Hawaiian) memories are of the Waikiki beachboys who tried to teach me how to surf, but couldn’t. They just paddled me out to where the waves were breaking and held me up on the board. None of them would accept any money for those surfing lessons, but they’d spend their own money on leis, putting so many flowers on me that sometimes I had trouble turning my head. I loved those guys. Without these remarkable people the island would be nothing. With them, it is a carnival. They are generous, courageous, and comic. They awake each morning to a fresh day that has forgiven the previous day’s outrages. In the pursuit of money, they are irresponsible. In the pursuit of happiness, dedicated. They are the perpetual adolescents of ocean, the playboys of the Pacific. – James Michener OK, back to Mississippi: I got an email from Carol Jacobs Commander of American Legion Post 139 in Bay St. Louis. She is having a 1st Annual Car Show Nov. 16 at the post, see events for time. She wants to be in Motor Sports events and wants to place an ad!! So I jump into Precious (300 ZX) turn on my tape of Michael Bolton (bet you thought I was going to say my Hawaiian tape) and head for the Legion. As I drive in the driveway I park in front of a beautiful pool! (reminded me of the Elk’s in Waikiki) To my right is the back entrance, I walk to the bar. They have a big round bar about 20 bar stools. To the right I see a pool table. Plenty of parking for all you CRUISERS! The bartender is Theresa. I think she said she has been there for 9 yrs. They serve beer and wine and are open 7 days a week and the public is welcome. I’m not sure of the pool hours. I do know you can be a guest of a member and can swim in the pool for $3.00 a day. They have taken out an ad so check it out for there hours and address. They are also in Motor Sports events for their car show Nov 16th.

I leave the Legion and get on Hwy 90. Since I’m out I decided to stop at Anita’s Bar and see Debbie the bartender and drop off some magazines. (see Anita’s ad) I then stop at the 19th Hole Bar, drop of some magazines, and talked to the owner Scott, he is now opening at 3:30 till. I then decide to stop at El Maguey’s Mexican Restaurant (see ad). Juan the owner was not there but his good looking brother Carlos was. I decided to have one of their lunch specials and a glass of wine and talk to Carlos and one of my favorite waiters Hector. (Larry was at home working on his 1940 Ford or as I call it his Darlin Child) My lunch special was only $5.00! It’s now Wednesday and time to head for the Kiln. Diane, owner of Dempsey’s is having a Cruise-in Party October 12 – 6 p.m. till. (see black and white flyer) She is going to have Coast 102.3. Give A Ways, and a Live Band. Tents outside beer – food. I plan to be there with Precious and yes, I will bring Larry. When I left Dempsey’s I stopped to see Rene’, bartender at CC’S Bar. I think it is the only “just a bar” in the Kiln. All the other places have restaurant and bar. I’m headed for Bay St. Louis to check this cute little shop on Hwy 90 next to the storage place and the Pawn Shop. It’s called Rusty Mermaid. Collen & Robert are the owners and have only been open a month. The have shells, souvenirs and beach stuff. Prices are right! Open 7 days a week. Robert is getting a corner ready in the shop. They are going to have beer and light wine and soft drinks next month. It’s Friday and it’s time for French fries. So, Larry & I head for the VFW in BSL. (see ad) All the usual suspects were there. Beas was wearing a good looking hat. He must have a hot date! Every Friday Bobby and Mike have seafood and side dishes. I think $7.00 a plate. Looks like they do real good on orders to go. Every other Friday at 7 p.m. they have live music with Bill Lee, and open mic night. Watch next month for some of my old and new places! ome are in wheel chairs, most are dead, none of my articles have they read, but my thoughts always return to them. I was talking with my friend David and he said as soon as he sells his place, he is moving to Omaha, Nebraska to be with his grand kids. Omaha is across the river from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Well, Pauline lived in the outskirts of Council Bluffs and you can believe this little darlin' could stop your heart with a smile, a nod of her head, and those dark Irish eyes looking at you! I can't say her last Irish name due to the fact that there are probably many of her grand kids still around. My nickname for her was “Irish”, her dad didn't like it, but she was 19 and a hard working gal! She stood about 5'3” and weighed about 110 lbs. I had met her at the skating rink, as most of you know, I didn't drink or smoke the 12 years I went racing. So, at the roller rink (1949) a guy could get a good look at the gals figure, above the knee skirts, bare midriff, and then a tight top. When they would spin and do a show in the center of the rink, the tights would show the rest of their legs as they bent over spinning. Pauline was about 34 C and looked fabulous. The way we met was a little different, I had just finished putting my shoe skates on, and looked up to see her standing in front of me. “Would you hold this for me” she asked. She was holding a little cloth make up purse out to me. “Sure say I, anything for a damsel in distress”. She laughed and said “you don't look like Galahad to me”. “I have to be in RINK CENTER again, one of my girl friends just got sick in the rest -room and I have to take her place.” So that how “Irish” and I met, and soon after the rink closed that night I followed her to her apartment and she dropped off her car, and jumped into the front seat of my 46 Ford Convertible. ...
“Where to” I asked as I noticed her left knee was against my right knee. “Lets go down to the Blue Gardens and listen to the band” she replied. “By the way, what are you doing with a California plate on this car? We were running Cedar Rapids mile track that Sunday and I told her I drove race cars for a living and would like her to go with me to the races. She smiled and said “If we get along good tonite, I'd love to go!” I wasn't sure what she meant by that, but I said “do we stay at your place or my motel tonite?”. “I held my breath waiting for her answer”. - “I'm not going to have to explain a California plated car staying all nite at my place to all the ones that know me, so its your place” That night I had to get out of bed and turn the thermostat down to 65`. We got up at 6 a.m. and were ready to go at 6:30 due to the several showers that we took the nite before. Off we go to Cedar Rapids, its about a 4 hour drive @ 65 mph and I wanted to get there early and eyeball the track. Joe Lucy was towing the #4 car with his brand new 49 Lincoln with the Burbank trailer on the back. (2 tire/posts and dual wheels). Eddie Moore, St. Louis, Mo. Midget racing champion was going to drive the #4 car for Joe and I'm to drive Eddies car. (I don't remember the #) he wanted to keep the points as car owner with his car running and me driving his car for points.

Cedar Rapids was a 1 mile dirt horse racing track, no crash walls just a “Farmer Fence” out of 1 by 4's. The promoter would bring in about 20 truck loads of clay and spread it out about 3” thick over the soft horse racing dirt. After the race they would scrape it off & remove it. AAA had a sprint race the Sunday before and the 1st turn had a hole in the fence. There was also a long deep trench in turn 1 leading up to the hole in the fence. Eddie, Joe, and I were standing there in the infield with the promoter and Eddie asks the promoter “what happened to the driver who took out the fence?” “He died” the promoter answered. I thought it was Ceil Green, but no, he died at Langhorne.
Well I loved Eddies car, it was a dream to drive, and at the last 5 laps I passed Eddie and that put me in the 4 car after that (see photo) I drove the #4 till 1952. In 1953 I bought my self a brand new Kurtis, and my driving days until 1961 were in my own car. As my e-mail buddy Mitch G remembers, I stuck that V-8 60 Turkey nite in the main and finished 8th. His Dad was in the stands that nite. There was 65 cars there to qualify. I was 8th quick with 20% nitro to qualify. I never saw Pauline again, too many races, too many other girls. Female racer accelerates into male-dominated sport by Seth Dickerson championseth@gmail.com University of Louisiana at Lafayette marketing student, musician and sorority member Sarah Montgomery lives life in the fast lane. Literally. Nineteen-year-old Montgomery competes in road races around the nation in her highly modified Mazda Miata. Montgomery took fifth place in this summer's season of the Mazda Teen Challenge, a series of road races pitting teens from around the nation against each other. “Racing in the Teen Mazda Challenge was an experience in itself,” Montgomery remarked. “The people I raced against are the people constantly winning national championships. I consider it an honor to be competing with them and also doing well when racing against them.” Montgomery found her love for burning rubber eight years ago after attending IndyCar races in Texas with her family. Being able to watch professional driver Danica Patrick's career take off in such a maledominated sport was a big inspiration for the young racer-to-be. “I understand, because I'm kind of in the same situation,” Montgomery said. “But she gets stuff about it all the time because she's a female in a very professional league.” Montgomery commands the wheel of “Captain Nemo,” which earned its name after being submerged during Hurricane Katrina. The car was restored and modified by Sarah's trainer, Brent Mosing. Along with Mosing, Montgomery is strongly supported by her family: her father, Robert, coaches; her mother, Laura, budgets expenses; and her younger sister, Emily, photographs her events. Montgomery's racing exploits are a family operation. “He's a nutcase!” Montgomery exclaimed in front of her dad. ”He's a lot of fun, though. He makes every situation a good thing, so there's never a dull moment.” “I'm a horrible pit crew,” Robert Montgomery responded with a chuckle. “It's impossible not to be proud of her, because it is very difficult to be an automobile race-car driver,” Robert Montgomery continued. “And to be a female, with a low budget and everything, she's phenomenal.” Wanting to continue her racing career after college, Montgomery said she hopes a marketing degree will help in turning pro. “What I really want to do is race,” Montgomery said. “I'm hoping with marketing I can market myself instead of paying people thousands of dollars to do it. If racing doesn't work out, I can still be in the racing business and help market other young drivers.” Montgomery attended Lafayette High School, where she was student leader and head drum major. Her interest in music continued from being the lead singer of Christian rock group Turning Point to soloing Carnegie Hall with her clarinet. “Carnegie Hall was the most nerve-racking experience I've ever had!” Sarah exclaimed. “Standing up in front of hundreds of people playing all by yourself is nothing but terrifying. But it was excellent!” On Sept. 7, Montgomery placed second out of 15 racers in the fall opening race for the Spec Miata racing league. The contest took place at Montgomery's home track of Grand Circuit Bayou in Belle Rose, La. “It honestly feels like a dream,” Montgomery remarked after the race. “I never imagined myself succeeding in such a highly competitive sport. At age 20, I left a downtown bar one school night near 2 a.m. and drove toward a friend’s home on General Mouton. As the designated driver, I had one beer and one double Crown and Coke throughout the course of the evening. No sweat on my or my passengers’ part. Minutes later, it wasn’t erratic driving, failure to yield or a forgotten blinker that got me pulled over, but my fog lights. My fog lights? To shine those lights in addition to regular headlamps when there’s no “inclement” weather, I later learned, is a ticketable offense. Because I panicked and threw the remainder of my Crown and Coke out the window once I saw those red and blue lights (smart), the officer administered a field sobriety test in front of 2 a.m. downtown traffic. I distinctly remember there was so much traffic. “But I’m not drunk!” I argued, although I admitted to what I drank. I was almost correct. The breathalyzer registered me with a 0.07 blood-alcohol content, and those familiar with the law know that’s below the 0.08 limit allowed for an ofage drinker. But it’s 0.02 if you’re under 21. If it had been a year later, the arresting officer — who disclosed he belonged to the governor’s “OWI Task Force” and is now the state police spokesperson — would have let me off. I later argued these points to my parents, friends, everyone I got into conversation with about OWI arrests. Especially when I was drinking. “Fog lights! Point zero-seven! Below the legal limit! This is a racket!” The holding cell that night was cold, and that sucked. Paying more than $100 for bail sucked. My car was towed, and paying $250 for that sucked. Court sucked. But paying $2,500 for a lawyer didn’t suck, because my dad paid for it. I can’t even remember what I pleaded, but my underage drinking and driving charge warranted only a couple of court dates and the same defensive driving course I took when I got my first ticket at age 16. How many of you have been enabled in that way? That was 2008.
2010. My car is barreling through a quaint neighborhood at some wee hour of the morning. It was a night of many Vegas bombs, I think, and although I’d been taken “safely” by a drunk driver back to a friend’s house, I got restless. I snuck out the back door. My house was but a few blocks away. With music blasting and my windows down — I’m feeling good and drunk about now — I run a neighborhood stop sign and cut an aggressive right turn. Did I mention it was raining? My car fishtails, and I feel some turbulence. But I make it home and quickly pass out. It’s never actually sleep when you’re that drunk. Wasn’t till the next morning that I traced my steps and realized my car’s tail end had crashed into someone’s concrete fence. I left a note and my phone number at the house, whose owner had just died, a neighbor told me. The children were now trying to sell the house. Couple days later, an officer knocks on my door. “Why didn’t you stop?” she asked. “It was late and it was raining and no one was home.” Same thing I told the neighbor. The officer asks no further questions and issues me a ticket for hit-and-run. A little more than a hundred bucks. The accident totaled my car, but I had full coverage insurance — that I didn’t pay for — which bought me a new car and repaired the destroyed fence. How many of you have been enabled that way? Six months later, I wrecked two more cars. But we won’t get into that. Sunday’s cover story in The Daily Advertiser — an incredibly investigated piece by veteran reporter Claire Taylor — asserts that Lafayette’s “intoxicated drivers rarely face jail time — unless they kill someone.” Her report quotes ailing parents, like Paula Romero, who have watched their children’s drunken killers get away with “a slap on the wrist.” A twice-convicted drunken driver killed Romero’s 18-year-old daughter, Shelly, in 2011. She was on her way to babysit after serving as designated driver earlier that evening, and Tyson Dupuis was driving 99.8 mph after a bar fight when he crashed into her car. Shelly died in the hospital two days later. Dupuis will serve only five years hard labor for her death, although Louisiana’s vehicular homicide law allows for sentences up to 30 years. That sucks.
The Daily Advertiser’s report further details plea-deal accessibility, including suspended jail time for repeat offenders. Taylor quotes Lafayette District Attorney Mike Harson, saying some repeat offenders slip through the cracks because of technical loopholes like “paperwork requirements” that differ from Lafayette’s and sometimes don’t allow out-of-state convictions to hold up in court. That sucks. Although the Lafayette Police Department has clocked the most OWI arrests in the state four years in a row, a look at the daily arrest report shows drunken drivers still infect the streets. “But football! But Mardi Gras! But I haven’t had that much to drink!” I hear you. There’s always an excuse when you need one. But have you considered how every excuse is a departure from personal responsibility? Responsibility to yourself? To your loved ones? To people you’ve never met? Shelly Romero never once crossed Tyson Dupuis’s mind, until he killed her. I’d never noticed that home in the Saint Streets, until I crashed into the property and later learned that grieving family’s plight. It took one OWI, two other alcohol-related arrests, three car accidents and a near-decade of drunken driving before I began to take personal responsibility for that low -life habit. I’m now 25. Yeah, how many of you started drinking in high school, too? How many of you are drinking underage? How many of you drove drunk last weekend? Last night? Isn’t it all so… easy? You obviously think you can get away with it, and most of you probably will until the split-second that changes your life irreversibly. And maybe takes someone else’s. To you, crashing on a couch may suck. Waiting 45 minutes for a cab may suck. Finding a ride to your car in the morning may suck. Or maybe it’s just you. Get with it. Now there is a show in Madison, Mississippi that is growing every year. This year it is expected to be the largest yet. I'm talking about the 10th Annual Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show October 18-19. Madison, Mississippi, is just 10 minutes north of Jackson off I-55, the city of Madison has become a central location for classic car show events. With up to 500 classic cars expected to converge in downtown Madison this has grown to be the largest car show event in central Mississippi. Friday's activities include vehicle registration and the annual Cruisen-4-Cash event. Cruisen-4-Cash provides registered participants an opportunity to drive their classics to 12 area locations where they can win $1,000 in cash and hundreds of door prizes such as gift cards to local restaurants, free oil changes, car washes as well as gift cards to area merchants. Everybody is a winner in this event. It will take 80 to 90 minutes to make all the stops. Saturday starts off with vehicle registration as well as another opportunity to drive your classic in the Classic Car Caravan. The caravan will start staging at 8:15am at beautiful Reunion Golf Course approximately 15 minutes from downtown Madison. At 9:00am the caravan, with a police escort, will make its way through the neighborhood and will then head toward downtown Madison to join other classic cars that are already in place. There were over 100 classic vehicles in last year's caravan. It is great seeing lots of local residents sitting in their lawn chairs in their front yards waiting to see the beautiful classic cars parade past their homes. Lots of cameras, big waves and thumbs-up from mom, dad and the kids. Everybody will have a great time participating in the caravan. Once at the show the smell from the food vendors will quickly get your attention. Hot coffee, juices as well as sausage and biscuits cooking on the grill will be hard to resist. On a cool October morning a big breakfast will certainly hit the spot. If you decide to bring the wife and kids don't worry about finding something for them to do. For the wife more than 50 merchants will have booths set up for the annual Shopping For SIDS. Hope Hollow's Silent Auction will also be of special interest to the ladies. The ladies will be busy, don't worry. For the kids a free two hour magic show from 11:30 to 1:30 will take place inside the old school's auditorium. Stage magic and balloon art by local magician Dorian LaChance will entertain the kids. Also, a special appearance by Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers will be a big surprise during the magic show. The kids will love it! The first 500 registered participants will receive an event dash plaque as well as an 18X24 full color event poster suitable for framing. More than 170 awards will be given out in various categories including Top 50 Automobiles, Top 20 Trucks, Top 20 Street Rods, Top 20 Imports in addition to Top 10 Most Nostalgic, Top 10 Late Model Muscle, Top 5 TV/Movie Theme Cars, Top 5 Most Unusual, Top 3 most Radical, Top 3 Project Cars, Top 3 Most Original, Top 3 Rat Rods, Top GM, Top Ford, Top Mopar, Top Japanese, Top British, Mayor's Choice, Longest Distance, etc. Also, $1000 in cash drawings will also take place during the closing ceremonies. One look at this Hot Rod and you know you better be holdin’ on when the light turns green… at least that’s what Jim Kotto from Columbus, GA tells me. His 1984 S-10.. has a 454 cubic inch Chevy mill under that tunnel ram, and that is supplying power to a turbo 350 trans. You better have a light foot on the pedal, because you can bet there’s no problem twisting the 9 inch Ford with the 410 gears. The top has been chopped 7 inches, and that’s a hood off a 61 Dodge Polaris replacing the old metal roof. A grill from a ‘40 Ford deluxe sits in front of the Speedway front suspension. What a Hot Cajun Pro Car… and Shayla Broadway must have thought so too. Her great smile just shows you that this little ol’ Hot Rod has that “I wanta’ take a ride in it….” look written all over it! Emerald Coast Cruzin 2012 It was great time had by all! We are very exited about joining the Coast Cruizers & meeting all the great people associated with this group. My name is Vic Seay & my wife is Donna, we live in Boston, Ga. We have a yellow 1932 highboy coupe that we built in 2007. the coupe has an aftermarket little M block, Brodix aluminum heads, 871 Kuhl blower, baffled zoomies, and we love Cruizin’ in. This was our 4th year in Panama City Beach and our second year bringing the coupe. On Saturday, the big day of the show, Donna drove our truck to the pier across the road from the show. She asked me to go with her to the beach for a couple of hours & get a bite of lunch. While out on the beach we got a call from our good friend Walter, who we met 3 years ago, telling us Jimbo wanted to use our ‘32 for some kind of photo shoot. I told him I had the key but they could roll it around anywhere they wanted. Well I don't know what kind of shoot it was but everyone was laughing about it and said they had fun. We are looking forward to getting our Coast Cruizers MotorSports Magazine, to see what they did and reading about all the great people and events.
My name is Rena, I live here in the Panama City Beach area. I'm a single mom of 2 wonderful children and a beautiful grandbaby. My interest are riding my Harley Davidson Street Glide "prenup" (long story behind that one), Hot rods, traveling and spending time with my family and friends. I consider myself a people person and my motto in life is....... "I admit, I’m a handful! I'm strong willed, independent and some what outspoken. I make mistakes and out of control sometimes and hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst then you sure don’t deserve me at my best" I love the pinup look for many reasons. It's a classic style that evokes femininity, strength and sex appeal. But still being classy. It’s not just a look its an attitude. My favorite past pinup was Marilyn Monroe and current is Sabina Kelly. Both are blondes but I can say....blondes don't always have the most fun !!!! My wish in life is to live what years I have left to the fullest.

So we got permission to roll out Vic & Donna’s yellow ‘32 for some background color, Walter at the wheel, and added Rick & Lisa’s blue ‘48 Chevy pick-up for a little more contrast, then placed Rena on her newly pinstriped Harley right in the middle.
