We believe in learning through experience and in applying knowledge to solve real problems. MB students are exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in traditional classroom and lab settings, as they also learn progressively complex skills in design, rapid prototyping, building, and coding; honing their creative problem-solving and engineering skills in one of the largest, most well-equipped maker spaces of any school in New England.

The Y-Lab A 5,000-sq.-ft. engineering and maker space, the Y-Lab is where ideas move from theory to practice, and students are encouraged to make their own discoveries. It features an endless supply of modeling materials and leading-edge technology—3D design software and printers, multiple CNC routers, laser and vinyl cutters, industrial sewing machines, a wire bender, largeformat scanner/printer, a video and sound production studio and dedicated robotics lab.

Athletics is an extension of the MB classroom, helping student-athletes develop intangible skills like leadership, work ethic, collaboration, relationship-building, discipline and resilience. MB fields 61 teams in 16 sports at the Middle School, JV and Varsity level and more than 80% of middle and upper school students play at least one sport. On average, more than 20% of each graduating class goes on to compete athletically at the collegiate level. Equally important, over a five-year period our student-athletes were recognized with 22 team sportsmanship awards.

Athletic Facilities With two full-length basketball courts, a four-lane track, strength training, and medical facilities, the Waughtel-Howe Field House is well-equipped to help student-athletes cultivate their best efforts, and provides a fun place for exercise and play. Campanella Field is home to Moses Brown’s football, lacrosse, and field hockey teams. With a quarter-mile track, long-jump pit, and high-jump area, it’s also an ideal training ground for track-andfield athletes. The Wasserman Soccer Field is situated just behind middle house, and in addition to being one of the main playing areas for boys’ and girls’ varsity teams, it also hosts junior varsity and middle school teams, and P.E. classes during the day. In 2016, the McCullough Baseball Diamond was completely renovated, including a new infield, outfield, backstop, dugout areas, and scoreboard. The Moran Softball Diamond is expected to have several upcoming renovations as well. The Cooper Tennis Courts has six newly-renovated outdoor tennis courts that feature an updated playing surface, all-new netting, and comfortable, convenient spectator seating with parking nearby. A fun and flexible space, Mann Field hosts varsity athletes, middle school introductory teams, and lower school play throughout the academic year.

& g n i m or f r e isual Arts PV The arts are an essential academic subject at Moses Brown because of the ways they integrate skills learned in other disciplines, and bring students back, over and over again, to the essential humanity in all people—the central tenet of Quaker values.
Whether students are already highly accomplished or are trying something for the first time, Moses Brown offers an extensive range of opportunities for visual, musical and performing artists to develop their craft and artistry. For students who aren’t sure about stepping into something new, there is a broad base of encouragement to give it a try, and a community of friends and mentors ready to celebrate their success.

Woodman Center The Woodman Family Community & Performance Center is a 36,000-sq.-ft. multifunctional facility that is the heart of the MB campus, providing dynamic spaces to learn, play, perform, worship and celebrate. The award-winning design includes theater-style raked seats that fold back into the wall and a hydraulic floor that turns a 500-seat theater into a completely full floored hall that can host science fairs, receptions, school dances, dinners and more. With a lobby cafĂŠ, art galleries, costume and scene shops and professional-grade sound and lighting, it is transforming student life.

Three Oaks Studio & Hoffman House Art Studios Three Oaks Studio houses work spaces for painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, and an expansive wood shop. Students in kindergarten and above use the facilities as they learn techniques and materials for rendering their own visions. With tremendous natural light, age-appropriate tools, and right-sized workbenches, the Three Oaks studio is a favorite spot for students who like to make, create and explore. Hoffman House is home to two large studios for middle and upper school artists, offering courses in printmaking, textiles and fashion design, painting and even a darkroom for film and digital photography.

d n a h c r a e s e R , l e v a r T s m a r g o r P n o i s r e m m I TRIPs—the Travel, Research, and Immersion Programs—foster a rising generation of civic-minded, multilingual and ethical global citizens. New courses and a broad array of travel opportunities help students explore cultures, life experiences, and worldviews different from their own. Because these educational experiences are so transformative, we believe they need to be a critical part of a Moses Brown education for every student, regardless of financial circumstances. In 2018-19, 449 students—from third graders to seniors—led by 62 faculty members, participated in one of 17 TRIPs to places like the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Kenya, Spain, the White Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. Lower School From the moment you step inside, Moses Brown’s lower school challenges children’s assumptions and encourages them to think and play in new ways. In addition to classrooms for nursery–fifth grade, lower school has a dedicated music room, two playgrounds for children of all ages, and direct access to Campanella Field and the outdoor track for those times when kids need to get the wiggles out before the next learning unit.

Middle House In addition to administrative offices, Middle House is home to classes in all three divisions and the primary cafeteria. One of the joys of the MB community is seeing lower, middle and upper school students pass one another in the hallway, calling out greetings to friends of different ages and building a shared sense of community that transcends grades. Middle House is also home to the lower school library and science lab.

Friends Hall Friends Hall houses World Language, Science, and some Math classrooms, as well as the College Counseling and Head of Upper School’s offices. It also provides spaces for social gathering, quiet study and grab-and-go dining in Marc’s Place. During the warmer months, no place is more popular than the front deck of Friends Hall.

Jones Library Completely renovated in 2016, the Walter Jones Library serves middle and upper school students and connects to the Woodman Center via an enclosed glass bridge. Modeled on evidencebased best practices for 21st-century library design, it contains classrooms, quiet study rooms, a variety of furniture and seating options and flexible spaces for teaching, research and presentation. Three full-time librarians actively foster students’ love of reading and develop their research skills, including the complexities of digital resources.
