Corporate Social Responsibility On the 1 of May i take my one man demonstration to the main shopping street of Copenhagen. I am going to improve conditions for workers around the world by means of critical consumption. My banners will be the slogans of the multinational companies and “Because you`re worth it� will no longer sound hollow when I ask about the conditions of production for everything that I let myself be tempted by. My credit card will be heard
Town Hall Square Copenhagen My one man demonstration starts out peacefully. I have taken out the first slogan of the day”You can’t be too thin or too powerful”, a slogan that Apple had to pull back after massive protests by critical consumers.It is perfect for my mission and it gives me a sense of being both skinny and powerfull
McDonalds While ordering a Big Mac I tell Maria at the counter about Jorge Rios.An exchange student from south america that paid 3000 dollars to live in a basement, sleep in a childs bed and work at McDonalds in Pennsylvania. Maria smiles and shrugs, then she asks me what I want with my fries. I press delete on the credit card terminal and walk away.
The Body Shop I am looking for my favorite sent Activism among the perfumes at The Body Shop. I am approached by the sweet shop assistent Camilla. I ask if she knows about a former employee (Beyonce) that was washed white with Photoshop in a commercial by L’Oréal (The Body Shop is owned by L’Oréal) ...we laugh a little, but I don t get an answer. She evades my question.My consumer sensetive nose smells a cover up and my purchase impulse fades immediately.
Marc Jacobs I love his shoes, I love his shirts and I love when he takes of his clothes in his own commercials. But Marc Jacobs has sold himself to Coca Cola, a company that loves to take advantage of poor farmers in south america. I have brought along a Coca Cola slogan “Love is heavy� to the store and a pair of red plush handcuffs ( notice how they match the sweater in the back). I chain myself to a bag.Either he cuts of all relations with Coca Cola...or I am thrown out ( but still manages to save a small part of his empire)
