SUMMIT CHAIR Triscia W. Hendrickson, Ph.D. Professor and Associate Provost for Research & Student Training, Morehouse College Triscia W. Hendrickson earned a BS in Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands and a PhD in Cell Biology from Emory University. After completing her post-doctoral training in the FIRST-IRACDA program at Emory, she joined the Morehouse College faculty, where she has maintained an active research program focused on (1) Elucidating the role of primary cilia in cancer, and (2) Investigating role of HBCUs in STEM training and diversification. Dr. Hendrickson is a servant-leader, as demonstrated by her service to the College on the Faculty Council, the Institutional Effectiveness Council, the 2018 Reaffirmation of Accreditation Leadership team, and other faculty committees such as Faculty Research, Faculty Development, the Curriculum and Education Policy Committee. Her passion for student success is demonstrated in the leadership roles she has undertaken in training and mentoring initiatives such as the MARC U-STAR program, the Morehouse-Johns Hopkins Vivien Thomas Scholars Partnership, and the James King, Jr., Medical Admissions Program. As the Associate Provost for Research & Student Training, she leads strategic initiatives to enhance the institution’s research enterprise while also developing opportunities for student training experiences. She has rendered service to the profession as a member of the Women in Cell Biology Committee of the American Society for Cell Biology and as reviewer for NIH, NSF, HHMI, and the Barry Goldwater Scholarship & Excellence in Education Foundation. Dr. Hendrickson is an alumna of the Center for the Advancement of STEM Leadership (CASL) program and the HERS Institute.

SUMMIT CO-CHAIR Tiffany Rogers Bussey, DBA, MBA, MSc, PMP

Executive Director, Morehouse College Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center Tiffany Rogers Bussey is the founding Director of the Morehouse College Entrepreneurship Center, a global model for providing small business support in the areas of organizational management infrastructure development and process improvement. Dr. Bussey has over thirty years’ experience in various aspects of business management for corporate, small business, educational and non-profit organizations. As Director of the Morehouse College Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, Dr. Bussey manages strategic teams of faculty, staff and consultants to achieve the goals of the Center, which is to assist in the development and growth of entrepreneurs of color through scholarly research, training and consulting services. Dr. Bussey is also an adjunct professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management at Morehouse College. She frequently provides commentary as a small business expert on NPR, Bloomberg News, Black Enterprise and Huffington Post. Dr. Bussey earned her doctorate in business administration and masters of science degree in strategic management from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, U.K. She received a masters in business administration from George Washington University in Washington D.C and a baccalaureate degree in economics from The College of Saint Elizabeth in New Jersey. Dr. Bussey is a Certified Project Management Professional, Certified Situational Leadership Facilitator, Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Training Presenter, and a Certified Teacher of Entrepreneurship. Her research interest intersects the areas of leadership behavior and strategic change in small firms.

OPENING REMARKS David A. Thomas, Ph.D. President, Morehouse College David A. Thomas, Ph.D., president of Morehouse College, is internationally recognized for his expertise in organizational management and higher education leadership. A noted academic scholar, award-winning author, and business consultant for 100 of the Fortune 500 companies, Dr. Thomas has also served as dean of Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and on the faculty of HarvardBusiness School and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. At Morehouse,his fundraising leadership has resulted in approximately $190 million, a still-growing total higher thanduring any other presidential tenure in the history of the college. Under his strategic direction, Morehouse has extended its reach by launching its first online degree programs and has amplified its positioning as a center of intellectual discourse and social engagement in areas such as global leadership, professional equity, social justice, and innovation. He has written or co-written three books and more than 100 scholarly articles, book chapters, cases, and teaching notes. Among other honors, Dr. Thomas is the recipient of Washington Business Journal’s “Minority Business Leader of the Year” award and the National Executive Forum’s Beacon Award and was named one of “Atlanta’s 500 Most Powerful Leaders” by Atlanta Magazine. Getting Serious About Diversity: Enough Already with the Business Case, co-written by Dr. Thomas, won the 2020 HBR McKinsey Award as the best Harvard Business Review article of the year. He serves on the boards of DTE Energy, Commonfund, Vanguard, and Yale Corporation. He is also a senior advisor for Grain Management. He earned a Ph.D. in organizational behavior studies and a Master of Philosophy in organizational behavior, both from Yale University, along with a Master of Organizational Psychology from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Administrative Sciences from Yale College.

GREETINGS Kendrick Brown, Ph.D. Provost and Senior Vice President Kendrick Brown, Ph.D., is the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Morehouse College. He has more than 20 years of experience as a professor and senior administrator, having served students and faculty with distinction at private liberal arts colleges on the West Coast and the Midwest. A published scholar and a sought-after speaker on issues of race, identity, diversity, and inclusion, Dr. Brown earned his doctorate and master’s degree in psychology at the University of Michigan. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Mount Union College in Ohio. During his tenure in higher education, he has worked to create and implement effective strategic plans while managing $50-million budgets, launching new academic majors, and empowering faculty to become national instructional leaders who innovate and inspire students to excel. Prior to coming to Morehouse, Dr. Brown served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Redlands in Redlands, California, an institution with more than 260 faculty members and 5,000 students. During his five years at Redlands, Dr. Brown led a multi-phased strategic planning process for the college that reimagined the institution’s mission and vision and expanded academic programs. He also implemented strategies to improve recruiting and talent development, which resulted in a more diverse workforce. Prior to his tenure at Redlands, Dr. Brown served as a senior administrator at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he worked as acting provost and chief academic officer as well as associate dean of the faculty. Dr. Brown shares a commitment to the Morehouse mission to develop men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership and service. Among his priorities are the expansion of virtual education and study abroad opportunities, the creation of innovative programs for students studying on campus, and development of the esteemed Morehouse faculty. Brown has written a number of published scholarly articles which have appeared in Current Psychology, The Journal of Applied Social Psychology, and The Journal of Black Psychology. He also has appeared as a panelist at the 2020 Naval Academy Leadership Conference, the 73rd and 74th annual meetings of the American Conference on Academic Deans, and the 31st International Congress of Psychology in Japan, and a host of other conferences. 6


KEYNOTE SPEAKER Grant Bennett ‘20 Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Strategist, Google Founder, The Two-Six Project Grant Bennett is a proud native of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Inspired by a conversation with local Fayetteville legend, J. Cole, Grant took a baseball and academic scholarship to Morehouse College. While in college, Grant was engaged in campus life as a student-athlete, a Ronald E. McNair Baccalaureate Scholar, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In 2020, he graduated from Morehouse with a B.A. in Psychology. While graduating during the pandemic, Grant founded a nonprofit organization, The Two-Six Project. The organization was created to assist marginalized youth through intentional programming and scholarship in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The organization has provided over $200,000 in community support through its programming and over $10,000 in scholarships to local youth. The Two-Six Project has partnered with brands such as Google, Charlotte Hornets, Nike, and Dreamville, in addition to hosting community events for NBA professional basketball player Dennis Smith Jr. and social media influencer Vic Blends. His background as an entrepreneur, consultant, producer, and community organizer has led him to engage in meaningful work with various brands and organizations. Grant has worked as a producer and consultant for the NFL, HBOMax, and the Clinton Global Initiative. He also serves as the Executive Producer for the Adobe AMPED content series. In addition, his work has been highlighted by Forbes and President Bill Clinton. Grant was named the Morehouse representative for the 2021 Nike Yardrunner 2.0 campaign and to the 2022 HBCU Buzz & Fayetteville Observer 40 Under 40 list. He currently works at Google as Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Strategist with a concentration in Analytics, Partnerships, and Storytelling. 7

LUNCH & LEARN SPEAKERS Krista Defalco, MHA, MBA

Director, Administrative Operations, Medical Scientist Training Program (MD-PhD) Krista Defalco oversees all administrative operations for the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) MD-PhD Program Office. She manages financial and academic affairs, administers the MSTP NIH T32 grant, and performs marketing and development functions for the program including extensive travel to recruiting a diverse group of students to the BCM-MSTP. Krista serves as a liaison between the MD-PhD Program and BCM Medical School and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at multiple levels from leadership to administrators and is a strong advocate for the importance of building a diverse and inclusive community. Krista has served as an ex-officio member for the Inclusion and Excellence Council since 2017 and an Ambassador for DEI since 2020. Krista has served on AAMC GREAT Group MD-PhD Section Steering Committee and the National Association of MD-PhD Executive Committee.

Fred Pereira, PhD

Director of Initiative for Maximizing Student Development and Post- Baccalaureate Research Education Program Dr. Pereira is an educator and an expert in human disorders of auditory and neuronal function and his research aims to develop pharmacologic, gene or virus-based therapy to improve the quality of life during aging and cancer. 12


LUNCH & LEARN SPEAKERS Dr. Pereira is the Director of Graduate and Postbaccalaureate Development at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, leads two graduate programs and several educational grants supporting diverse students, including two NIGMS-funded research education programs: the Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) supporting underserved graduate students to be successful in Ph.D. careers and the Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) offering underserved college graduates a year-long laboratory research experience to prepare them for a rigorous PhD education.

Geoffrey A. Preidis, MD, PhD Associate Director, Medical Scientist Training Program (MD-PhD) Dr. Preidis is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics, and is a member of the graduate programs in Development, Disease Models & Therapeutics, Immunology & Microbiology, and the Clinical Scientist Training Program. He is a graduate of the BCM Medical Scientist Training Program (MD-PhD) and was appointed as an Associate Director of the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Medical Scientist Training Program (MD-PhD Program) in Fall of 2022. He is a trusted advisor to MD-PhD students and serves as the faculty advisor of the MSTP Diversity and Inclusion Student Committee (DISC). Dr. Preidis is passionate about global health and health equity focusing his research on the prevention and treatment of early postnatal malnutrition by targeting the liver-gut-microbiome axis. At Texas Children’s Hospital, he leads the Neonatal Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition Consultation Service, attends on the Pediatric Liver Service, and oversees a NIH-funded lab that studies mechanisms of impaired bile acid synthesis in malnutrition. He is a diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Society for Pediatric Research.

Suzette Roldan, MS

Program Administrator, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Biomedical Sciences & Health Equity Suzette Roldan has been a student affairs practitioner for seven years working in various functional areas which include admissions, orientation, advising, and program management. Currently, she is the Program Administrator for the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Biomedical Sciences and Health Equity (BSHEq) program, which aims to enhance, develop, and enrich the academic knowledge base and skills of students prior to their entrance into medical and health professions school. 13

Communications Manager, Power Systems Business Unit Based in Columbus, Indiana, Jasmine is a dynamic and purposeful leader with 10 years of experience in the marketing industry. She has a track record as a marketer that partners with business leaders to deliver on marcoms initiatives that drive business growth. She has a breadth of diverse experiences in marketing, e.g., operations, communications and product and event marketing. At her heart, Jasmine is a forward-thinking leader who is known for her people-centric approach and dedication to delivering results. Throughout her career, Jasmine has been recognized for her leadership skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. She is currently the Communications Manager for the Power Systems Business Unit at Cummins Inc., where she leads the planning, management, and production of marketing and related materials for the Defense, Rail and Service Solutions segments. Before joining Cummins, she was a student at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications. 14

LUNCH & LEARN SPEAKERS Shawna Watley is a senior policy professional and strategist in Holland &

Knight's Washington, D.C., office. Ms. Watley has more than 17 years of experience in public policy, strategy development, lobbying, legislative and regulatory counseling, and creative solutions to corporate, nonprofit and governmental issues at the federal level. She has cultivated working relationships on the federal, state and local levels of government. This includes professional relationships with the new Biden Administration, leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate, moderate Democrats and the Congressional Black Caucus. Ms. Watley forges and maintains working relationships with key elected political leaders, appointed officials and corporate executives. She has extensive experience representing public and private interests on various issues, including financial services, transportation, homeland security, healthcare, energy and education.

Ashley Lawrence is a senior public affairs advisor in Holland & Knight's

Washington, D.C., office and a member of the firm's Public Policy & Regulation Group. Ms. Lawrence focuses her practice in the areas of education, civil rights, environment, health equity and local government. Ms. Lawrence is dedicated to public service and civil rights issues, and has more than 10 years of significant legislative, communications, research and nonprofit experience. She has a significant background with civil rights organizations in policy and legal support capacities to advance social justice advocacy. Her passions include voting rights, environmental justice and women's empowerment. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Government and Afro-American Studies and a law degree from Howard University School of Law where she concentrated on policy and civil rights. 15

ALUMNI PANEL DISCUSSION David Wall Rice, Ph.D. '96 Professor of Psychology, Morehouse College and Principal Investigator of the Identity, Art and Democracy Lab David Wall Rice is Professor of Psychology at Morehouse College and Principal Investigator of the Identity, Art and Democracy Lab, a research space that explores expressions of identity balance through engagement, the exploration of varied contexts and personal narratives. It is a strengthsbased lab that works to understand and to elicit behavioral bests. David is the former Danforth Endowed Chair of Psychology at Morehouse College, was founding director of the Institute for Social Justice Inquiry and Praxis and founding Co-Director of the School’s Cinema, Television and Emerging Media Studies (CTEMS) Program. While an active faculty member within his home discipline, he also serves as faculty for the film studies major, and in African American Studies, with special focus on narrative studies. David graduated from Morehouse with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and earned a Doctorate in Personality Psychology from Howard University. With a Masters degree in Journalism from Columbia University, David frequently applies his research to cultural criticism. He has served on the Editorial Advisory Boards for both The Journal of Negro Education and The Journal of Popular Culture; he has provided commentary for C-SPAN, NPR, PRI, CBS News, CNN, MSNBC; and his writing and opinion have appeared in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times Magazine, BuzzFeedNews.com, Vibe magazine, Ebony.com and The Root among other media outlets; his writing is also represented in the Cornell Hip Hop Collection as part of the Adler Hip Hop Archive. David’s research in Personality Psychology and theory development is sharply focused on identity and self constructs. This is demonstrated in his book Balance: Advancing identity theory by engaging the Black male adolescent and the text-in-progress, Buddy the Saint. An emphasis on “the positive” is an approach that informs David’s work in identity development that finds root in youth culture, music culture, media, politics, psychology, education and faith. David lives with his wife and two sons in Atlanta, Georgia.

ALUMNI PANEL DISCUSSION SPEAKERS Tavis Thompson'12

Vice President, and Mentorship Director of CodeHouse Tavis Thompson is co-founder, vice president, and mentorship director of CodeHouse, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on creating a pipeline for diverse students to enter the tech industry. Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Tavis recognized from an early age the disparities faced by many underrepresented young people like himself and was determined to make a difference. With the help of several dedicated mentors and teachers, he enrolled in Morehouse College where he discovered his love for computer science – a career field he never imagined possible during his upbringing – and held summer internships at Facebook and Deloitte before starting as a full-time Program Manager on Microsoft’s Bing Advertisement team post-graduation. In 2019, alongside his Alpha Phi Alpha brother Ernest Holmes and mentor Jaycee Holmes, Tavis helped found CodeHouse to ensure students of color everywhere not only have the tools they need to succeed in a career in tech but to know they exist in the first place. To date, CodeHouse has secured more than $3 million in funding from leading tech companies like PayPal and Google; hosted multiple Tech Exposure Days to educate thousands of high schoolers across the country about careers in tech; and launched the CodeHouse Scholars Initiative to provide HBCU students majoring in STEM-related fields with $20,000 in academic scholarships, networking opportunities, mentorship, and technical training as they matriculate. As Tavis looks to inspire the next generation of tech leaders, he leads CodeHouse’s mentorship program, providing students with the role models and resources they need to flourish in both their professional and personal endeavors. Outside of CodeHouse, Tavis is passionate about expanding access to real estate investing and recently accepted a role as a Product Manager at Zillow on their public data team. He’s also a strong proponent of creative expression and operates a professional photography business in Atlanta.

Co-Founder and Director of Artist and Sponsor Relations, Milk ‘n Cookies Jhordan Gibbs is the Director of Artist and Sponsor Relations. He has a background of 10+ years in artist relations, promotions and turnkey event curation. As one of the founders Jhordan has been with Milk and Cookies since the brand's inception, and is a self-described "lover of music analytics." Jhordan is from Harlem New York and a Morehouse College graduate. He serves two functions on the team, the first helping to fuse his intuitive love of music with tangible metrics to make business decisions that help fuel the booking team. His second role thrives in artist and sponsor relationship building.
