Snoring In Children The prevalence of snoring in children ranges from 10% to 21% from 6 to 81 months. Habitual snoring is documented in17% of pediatric patients and this percentage increases in children with neurological problems or psychiatric problems. Snoring is an indication of obstructive sleep apnea. In general population 2-3% of children have apnea. This proportion is growing more with the increase in childhood obesity. What is apnea? Apnea in children is events lasting longer than two missed breaths and most commonly associated with some change in oxygen concentration. Snoring and mouth breathing in children were initially thought of as not harmful habits but more recently it has been associated that these children have a higher risk of social problems, poor academic performance, decreased attention and anxiety and depression issues. Children who snore are not likely to grow out of it and the
neurocognitive and behavioral damage from snoring in children is related to the fact that their brains are still growing. Dentist have a unique role in early identification of the Sleep disordered breathing or SDB especially in children as these children have abnormal facial growth resulting in orthodontic problems and sleep related teeth grinding as well. Sleep disordered breathing or SDB may create facial growth changes and these skeletal alterations can further worsen the sleep disordered breathing. Head and facial maturity is about 60% complete in children by the time they are 4 years of age but the tonsils and adenoids begin to grow more in size when children are two and half years old and get to increase greatest in size by 6 years causing additional airway blockage. In our body, soft tissue and muscles that cover the bone influence the pattern of bone growth. Therefore the facial muscles and the tongue tone create a framework for normal development of the nose and jaws. In children with SDB these muscles are weak causing narrow palate and small jaws and this amplifies the difficulty in breathing. Mouth breathers typically have a smaller upper airway size. Sometimes when the tonsils and
adenoids get extremely bigger in size it causes more airway blockage. These children tend to have long and thin face along with small jaws and an open bite. The dentist is in the best position to diagnose these conditions in children. Identifying the facial growth changes early in development may help resolve the orthodontic issues by getting the proper treatment as soon as possible. Therefore it is extremely important to get children to see the dentist early on as the impact of SDB in growing children can be serious and proper treatment can help prevent further complications.

5 Steps to protect your home from rodents this fall
Trim back trees and move debris away from your home
(BPT) – Once they’re inside, rats and other rodents can do a lot of harm to your home. This includes damage to electrical wiring, metal or plastic pipes and insulation found in walls and attics. On top of structural damage, the critters aren’t good for the people who live in your home, either: Some species of mice and rats can transmit diseases like hantavirus through their urine and droppings.
Tree limbs that touch your house can provide an easy access point for rodents, almost like a ladder or bridge. Some species of rats even nest in trees. Do some careful pruning to clear away any branches close to or touching your house. You should also keep any stacks of firewood or piles of debris away from your home, as they can attract rodents and hide burrow entrances. Protect food from hungry rodents
Between the potential health issues and possible damage to your home, the last thing you want to hear is the scurrying of little rodent feet in your walls or attic. Luckily, there are steps you can take that will help keep those critters out.
Call in the experts Between work, family and other tasks around the house, it can be hard for busy homeowners to set aside time to proactively monitor their homes for invading rodents. The good news is that you don’t have to protect your home or deal with an infestation alone. BRENTWOOD LITERACY
Community Coming Together To Support Literacy Hello, I wanted to take a minute to bring some light to a Project that was 100% community based to support literacy in Brentwood. I’m a resident of Brentwood and when I moved here 2 years ago I noticed there are so many beautiful parks and so trails to enjoy, but I also noticed at that time the library was under construction and there are very few book stores in the community. I decided I want to put a plan into action to some bring together more access to books and to reading for our children and even adults in our community. After some research and ideas I learned about Free Little Library’s, a concept of book free book sharing for a community. I fell in love
and decided this was exactly the project I was looking for. I wanted to create this gift to help support children’s reading outside of school related assignments. Reading helps promote speaking, listening, and understanding and I believe access to free books can help strengthen these tools in our community. I put my plan Into action and was able to get a old nightstand donated and I upcycled it into a Library box. Next through community site for help to build the base and mount the library. To you my luck Adam from Handydads donated his time knowledge and resources of leftover materials to execute the completion of this. Lastly I was able to ask other community members to donate books to start off the library. The library is now fully finished, registered and up and running in Baird Circle all due to 100% community support for supporting literacy. When I started this project to create a free little library there were only three of these accessible in Brentwood. Over the last couple of months I was able to inspire another community member
to build one and ours finally finished which made a total of five. I would Love to bring some attention to these five amazing Free book exchanges in hopes that people will learn of their existence and be able to utilize them for their enjoyment as well as inspire other community members to build more and strengthen literacy with in Brentwood. Earthquake, Fire and Flood Oh My! Whether it’s the recent earthquake or last year’s massive wildfires, it serves as a reminder how hazardous Mother Nature can be to your home. There are immediate actions you can take to protect your property and prevent major damage should one of these elements strike in the future. Wildfire Some inexpensive home improvements include installing a spark arrestor on your chimney, eliminating brush and debris from around your property. More expensive improvements include replacing single-pane glass windows, doors or skylights with tempered glass, replacing your exterior walls and roofing with a more fire-resistant material. Earthquake anchoring appliances, dressers, TV, computer and other items to the wall is possibly one of the most important preventative measures. Apply safety film to non- tempered windows and

Having a home inventory can make it easier when filing an insurance claim. Start with a sheet a paper for each room in the
house. Go around the room listing every item with a general description. If you have it, write the original cost, purchase date, replacement cost, model number, brand name, where purchased, and don’t storage forget places. In addition, take photos or video of each room for visual documentation. It is also a good idea to itemize valuable collections, silver, jewelry, etc. and take close up photos. Try to update your home inventory photos and list at least once a year. It is important to have an emergency evacuation plan and designated meeting area to take a head count in case of fire or other emergency By taking precautions to protect your home, you can possibly help keep damage to a minimum when disasters strike; or in the case of severe damage, make sure that you have the financial means to rebuild.
