Welcome to the 17th edition of the UK Festival Awards!

It’s been a while, 3 years is too long but we’re back together to look back at the first full festival season since our enforced break. We’re together to celebrate and acknowledge each other’s vision, creativity, tenacity, and energy that powers our world-leading festival industry.

With almost 400 entries generating almost 200,000 votes, engagement with the UK Festival Awards is as strong as it has ever been, demonstrating the public’s continued love of festivals which will surely provide a good platform for everyone to face the challenges ahead.

This year you’ll notice two new categories: The one-off Positively Perfect Pivot Award, recognising the efforts made by festival organisers and suppliers during the Covid 19 pandemic, and the Sarah Nulty Community Impact Award, dedicated to Sarah in consultation with her family and colleagues, this award celebrates those festival that go the extra mile to have a positive impact on issues facing the communities that surround them. A reminder to us all to #bemorenulty

To reach the shortlist stage of the UK Festival Awards is no mean feat, we congratulate every one of you. But this year more than any, the fact that you and we are still here to celebrate together is a huge reward. Not that we ever doubt the UK’s appetite for a great festival, and you ability to provide them.

Cheers!

festivals have begun to offer free drug testing facilities onsite, What DO THEY THINK?

I think this is a good idea but only if the acts are of a good standard. It is not worth losing out on good acts simply to make the gender balance.

Security should be better at picking this up not advocating it

What do THEYthink about...

I prefer line ups based on talent and popularity rather than gender.

I agree with it and believe it's important that festivals try to achieve it, it's highly commendable that they hold themselves up to be accountable like this.

of festival goers do not care about the environmental impact that festivals create

56%

11% of festival goers care more about the overall environmental, social and sustainability impact of festivals than they did this time last year

It's great! Helps to create a safer festival. It is good to recognise that people are going to do it so may as well provide an option for people to check out what they are taking to ensure it isn't something they weren't expecting.

Is a good idea in theory but I have seen people be followed back to their campsite and later have police have shown up to confiscate and even sometimes eject the person/persons from the festival.

This is s great idea, I don't do drugs. However I feel if people choose to then this facility at least give people the chance to do so safely

It is essential that all festival line-ups are gender balanced. It puts me o going to a festival if there are not enough women or bands of ethnic diversity on the line-up

I think we shouldn't force representation when it comes to talent, we should judge musical acts as being genderless when judging who to add to a set list or line up. Forcing representation means others miss out.

HOW THE AWARDS ARE DECIDED

This year, we have placed more awards than ever before in the hands of the public vote, without the influence of a judging panel.

The votes have been weighted according to festival size, with the decision being ultimately guided by the proportion of your audience that thinks you deserve their vote.

The following categories are decided by public vote:

• Best Non-Music Festival

• Best Family Festival

• The Grassroots Festival Award

• Best Overseas Festival

• Best New Festival

• Best Metropolitan Festival

• Best Small Festival

• Best Medium Festival

• Best Large Festival

For the following awards, we engage a panel of relevant specialists and industry luminaries to study entries and decide their preferences. Those categories decided by the judging panel are:

• Marketing Campaign of the Year

• The Innovation Award

• The Sarah Nulty Community Impact Award

• The Positively Perfect Pivot Award

• Best Festival Production

• The Brand Activation Award

• Line-Up of the Year

• Year

• The UK Greener Festival Award

• Promoter of the year

The Outstanding Contribution to Festival Award is decided by Festival Awards staff.

The Outstanding Contribution to Festivals Award

Tonight, we award not one but two individuals who, through the worst crisis that the festival industry has ever dealt with, stepped up beyond pay grade, expectation and the capabilities of mere mortals to lobby, research, represent and nurture their respective memberships through the Covid-19 pandemic storm.

One of our recipients becomes a double winner, an extraordinary achievement through extraordinary times, the second receives the award after bidding a fond farewell to the role he embraced so emphatically.
