Esther Patterson launched Curiousa & Curiousa (now re-branded to just Curiousa) a year after graduating in 2010, and was overwhelmed, after earning the Elle Decoration Design Award, when her jewel-like lighting designs were an overnight success. I wanted to keep the authenticity of my products and keep each one free-blown and individually shaped by hand.” On show at LiGHT 23, will be the 2022 [d]arc awards winning product range, Waves. www.curiousa.co.uk

Stand D16

Iconic British brand and inventor of the lava lamp, Mathmos, has announced a curated collection of limited-edition collaborations of its design classic Astro lava lamp to celebrate its 60th anniversary year. Proudly being displayed on stand D12 in the darc space decorative area at LiGHT 23, the limited edition 60th Anniversary Astro lava lamps have been designed with global music legends Duran Duran; British creative Rankin; and multi-disciplinary designers Camille Walala known for her explosively colourful creations; Sabine Marcelis - known for her delicate play with light and colour; and Studio Job - who has brought his talent for creating once-in-a lifetime objects to the Astro lava lamp. www.mathmos.com

At Nexia, we believe in the balance between design and technology, and we go beyond the distinction between decorative and functional. We bring modernity, design and comfort through technology applied to light. We understand light as culture: its role in creating experiences creates a link between space and people. We adhere to a set of objectives: products and projects that seek lighting rigour, visual comfort, efficiency and innovation. Our mission is to enable the creation of friendly environments, bringing people and technology together to provide unique and memorable experiences. www.nexia.es

The beginnings of Humble go back to 2018 when Jorren Teertstra, teamed up with his design buddies from APE Amsterdam. With a love of design and an aversion to cables, they set out to create a modern-day alternative to the ultimate mood lighting: candles. Their first lamp quickly became a household favourite, with its long battery life and signature bulb. They named themselves ‘Humble’, after this small and friendly initial design. From their studio in Amsterdam’s Houthavens neighbourhood, they design and develop their lighting in close cooperation with their production partner in China. They both share the same goal: to build lights that last. www.humblelights.com
