David Esleck Trio Wed. October 17, 2012 • 7:30pm Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music When the David Esleck trio performs, surprises are in store. The grand tradition of jazz piano – Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, Bill Evans, and many more – are filtered through Esleck’s mind and fingers, sprinkled with a little Beethoven, Debussy, Ives, Bartòk, Reich, and even a little Billy Preston, Keith Emerson, or Jerry Lee Lewis. Joined by jazz masters Jason Jenkins on bass and drummer Keith Willingham, this group is a favorite of jazz fans who enjoy both traditional and forwardlooking music.

UR Schola Cantorum and Women’s Chorale

This year’s festival will feature ensemble-in-residence eighth blackbird performing works of the brightest younger composers, and new music flutist extraordinaire Camilla Hoitenga (Germany/US) performing with electronics improvising whiz, Taavi Kerikmäe (Estonia). Third Practice will also present cutting-edge work for computers, acoustic instruments, video projection, and surroundsound by composers from around the United States, Asia, and Europe. UR Wind Ensemble

Director David Niethamer will conduct music from the classic repertoire for wind ensemble, including Gordon Jacob’s William Byrd Suite. A guest composer/conductor will lead performances of his or her music for the second half of the concert. Past composers have included David Holsinger, Timothy Mahr, Thom Ritter George, Samuel Hazo, and Elliot del Borgo.
