Boy Scout Badges Beginning Fishing Camp

Enjoy four days of fishing fun and adventure while learning how, when and where to catch freshwater fish. We'll fish Little Seneca Lake first to get some experience, then travel to waters outside of the park for new challenges. Black Hill Naturalists will provide expert, handson instruction on balanced tackle, live bait, artificial lure selection, knots, casting, and the latest fishing techniques. It's “Fun”damental!

Ancient artists and scientists were inspired by the four elements: Earth, Air, Water and Fire. We’ll build with mud, cook with fire, experiment with air and splash in water. Pick of the Parks

Hop on the “nature bus” and head to a different park each day to hike the most scenic trails in Montgomery County. Learn about native flora and fauna and explore a variety of habitats. Boy Scout Merit Badges at Meadowside Nature Center

Take some time out of your summer to get some hands-on fun and earn your Boy Scout badges at the same time! All programs are led by experienced and knowledgeable Park Naturalists at Meadowside Nature Center. Please dress for the weather and bring a non-perishable lunch each day.

Mammal Study Merit Badge

Learn the characteristics of the group animals of which you are a member. In this one-day, hands-on workshop, Scouts will work on and complete all five of the requirements for their Mammal Study Merit Badge, including a project that will benefit some of the animals living in Rock Creek Park. Bird Study Merit Badge

Geology Merit Badge: Wild Cave Excursion

Come learn about cave formations, cave life, and cave complexities. On the first day of this two-day excursion, we’ll explore geology in the classroom through hands-on activities and experiments. Then on Friday, we’ll head underground to a wild cave in Shepherdstown, West Virginia! We'll climb, crawl, and twist through passages that few others venture to explore.
