Fall in the Forest (965-10-24-13) Suggested ages: K-1st grade Thursday, October 24, 2013, 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. • Learning Center

Meet the “Talking Tree” and learn who lives in each forest layer. See how sowbugs and mushrooms turn leaves and dead trees into soil. Search for signs of forest plants and animals on a forest hike. $8 member/$10 non-member, includes adult admission for home school educator and all materials. Siblings are welcome but all participating siblings should be registered.

Minnesota Harvest (965-11-08-13) Suggested ages: 3rd-6th grade Friday, November 8, 2013, 12:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. • Learning Center Celebrate the Minnesota Harvest. Enjoy a feast of hands-on learning about locally grown foods. Students will begin this experience by reading food labels, and maps to find out how far sample grocery foods have traveled. Then the students will embark on a tasting tour of locally grown foods. In the Harvest Kitchen, students will harvest sweet potatoes, prepare and taste sweet potato pie. In the Garden Shed, students will make and taste popcorn as we learn about the Three Sisters: Corn, Beans, and Squash-Minnesota’s longest cultivated crops. In the Garden Lab we will make and taste applesauce and learn about how Apples have come to be grown in Minnesota. $8 member/$10 non-member, includes adult admission for home school educator and all materials. “Did You Eat A Plant Today?” Discover the plants that become our groceries. Investigate the sources of Hershey bars, bananas, Wheaties, and pizza in the “Please Touch Greenhouse”. Make and taste a delicious plant snack with green garlic in the Harvest Kitchen. Plant your own garlic bulb for making the snack at home. $8 member/$10 non-member, includes adult admission for home school educator and all materials. Siblings are welcome but all participating siblings should be registered.

Days of the Dinosaurs (965-01-17-14) Suggested ages: 2nd-5th grade Friday, January 17, 2014, 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. Learning Center

Explore what the plant world was like during the days of the dinosaurs. Study ferns, horsetails, cycads, and conifers to see the distant relatives of the plants that were on the plant eating dinosaurs menu. Find out why many scientists believe we have dinosaurs to thank for the abundance of flowering plants in our world today. Make and take home a terrarium filled with dinosaur plants. $8 member/$10 non-member, includes adult admission for home school educator and all materials. Siblings are welcome but all participating siblings should be registered.
