photography Photography Technique Digital Intensive: Textures and Patterns in Nature (750-09-28-13) Saturdays, September 28, November 9 and December 7, 2013, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. 3 sessions • Learning Center Carlyn Iverson, professional scientific illustrator for over 200 textbooks and publications Nature is filled with amazing textures, patterns and rhythms. In this new three-part intensive, you will expand your botanical understanding of why these patterns occur and revel in finding them throughout the change of seasons in the breathtaking Arboretum collections. After you’ve learned to best capture them with your digital camera, you’ll then learn how to think in terms of cropping and using computer software to increase depth of field and focus. Finally, you will apply all of your new-found understanding of textures and patterns in nature, and how to use computer software tools, to produce and print several “final” creations on archive-worthy paper. 3 sessions. Required materials: bring personal laptop (PC or Mac) and digital camera to each session. $180 members/$210 non-members, includes Arboretum admission

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Photographers Society is a group of photographers who want to express and share their passion of nature photography with the Arboretum and each other. Composing Your Autumn Photographs for the WOW! (750-10-12-13)

Saturday, October 12, 2013, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. • Learning Center John Pennoyer, http://www.impressionsofnature.net/ Take your autumn color photographs to the next level. The key is composition, and acclaimed photographer and Arboretum instructor John Pennoyer will show you how. Spend the beginning of the session in class learning how to improve your visual perspective. Then take what you’ve learned immediately out into the field and apply your skills to the inspiring subject matter to be found at the Arboretum in autumn. At the end of your time, you’ll have photos that bring the viewer to gush “Wow!” Skill level: All photography levels will find value from this course. $85 members/$100 non-members, includes Arboretum admission
