Stephen Christian Tew was born on April 18, 1987 to the parentage of Albert C. Tew II and Carol Regina Jones-Tew at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. What a be tting name for such an honorable young man of faith and love. Christian which means “Christ like” said all there was to say about this child of God. We all have a divine assignment in life and are called to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Stephen has truly done that in his lifetime.
Stephen attended Grandview Elementary from 1st -3rd grade, Lime Kiln Elementary School in Rockland County from 4th to 6th grade, Pomona Junior High School, and East Rampo High School. He then went on to attend Rockland Community College where he earned his Associates degree in Business Administration. He then attended Ramapo College of New Jersey where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Studies.
From a child Stephen was curious about the natural environment around him. He went on thrilling adventures collecting spiders and other interesting creatures as well as garden snakes and other critters. He would study the critters he collected and knew the scienti c name of each one. It made sense that he would go to school and earn a degree in an area of study that he was so passionate about. Stephen was an avid reader and had a love and joy of history. He could speak on any given topic from Judaism to Christianity and how it correlates with the Bible, and modern-day religious ideologies. In addition, he was able to discuss any topic or political agenda and had deep conviction about what was transpiring in our world.
Stephen had a deep abiding love for God, family, and others. As parents we fostered the spiritual growth of our sons at home and church. ey were members of Mount Moriah AME Church, under the tutelage and leadership of Reverend Robert R. Lowe, who christened Stephen at the tender age of 3 months old. He was blessed and given back to God. Due to work schedules, they attended Grace Point Gospel Fellowship youth services in Rockland County to further develop their spiritual growth. Stephen was an “old soul” and wise beyond his years. Even at a young age, he had insight and maturity that most people his age would not possess. Stephen was a deep thinker and would often make the most proli c comments that would catch us o guard and make us wonder in amazement where he would come up with those thoughts and ideas. e funny part is that he was right.
After graduating college, due to his passion for advocating for people with disabilities, Stephen chose employment with the NYS/DDOS agency where he worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for almost ten years. He encouraged and assisted in creating an environment where they could
strive and do their personal best. He empowered them to reach their goals. is is one example of Stephen’s life of service to others. Stephen carried on the legacy of both his paternal and maternal grandparents. ey were commissioned to win souls for Christ as they served others through their professional, personal and spiritual lives.
Stephen had a charisma that drew people to him. He was always spoken highly of and respected by others. Often people would say what a Christian young man he was, acknowledging the love and light of Christ that exuded from him. When his mother would attend open school conferences, his teachers, principal, security guards, and other faculty reached out excited to shake her hand saying, “Oh, you are Stephen’s mom! ey don’t make them like him anymore.” ere was a sincerity and pureness about him that came from his heart and soul and touched everyone he encountered. Many called him an angel on earth due to his gentility and kindness.
Stephen developed into his father’s twin when it comes to certain aspects of his personality. e way he spoke, his mannerisms, the way he talked “shop,” and the way he conducted business were identical to his dad. He looked up to his dad for the love, advice, and guidance that only a father could give. Both Stephen and his older brother, Albert III, are the men that they are today because of their father and mother’s love, and guidance.
Stephen, a ectionately called “Steph”, smiled all the time and brought joy to all our lives. No matter the challenges that he faced in his life, Stephen persevered and overcame every obstacle. Even while in the hospital Steph touched the lives of the doctors and nurses that cared for him. On March 8, 2023 at 8:43pm “Steph” made his transition from labor to reward at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City with his mother, father, Aunt Cheryl, Uncle Tony, and Aunt Madelin by his side. Steph ran his race and now he has nished his course. We love you Stephen, but God loves you best.
Stephen was preceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur L. Jones & Reverend Maureen L. Jones, paternal grandfather Albert Tew, his step grandfather Willie Ray McGuire & his Godparents James & Ethel Stroble.
Stephen Christian Tew leaves to cherish his memory: His loving parents, Albert C. Tew II & Carol Regina Jones-Tew; his paternal grandmother, Alberta Tew-McGuire; one brother, Albert C. Tew III; one sister in law, Camille Tew; two nephews: Oveon Walker-Tew & Albert C. Tew IV, one niece, Camryn Ava Tew; three uncles: Ronald Roberson (Gazella) of California, Craig Tew (Tamika) of Georgia; & Dr. Kenneth L. Jones (Keisha) of Texas; two aunts: Cheryl V. Jones & Rose Robinson of New York; eight rst cousins: Aaron Robinson, Justin Roberson, Devin Roberson, Craig Tew Jr., Kenneth Arthur Lee Jones, Naomi M. Jones, Nyah L. Jones, and Nicole N. Jones; special close family friends, “Uncle” Albert Belcher Sr., “Aunt” Andrea Belcher, Reverend J-Anthony & Lady Madelin Dargan, and Retired General Raphael & Jevor Peart; the entire Mount Moriah AME Church Family and New City Gospel Fellowship Family; Northern Westchester Hospital, Helen Hayes Hospital, and the care team at Mount Sinai Hospital; Sumitomo MITSUI Trust Bank, Limited; and a host of family and friends.
I made it, I’m home now at 35 years But I made it. Forever in the joyful presence of the Lord.
So be not troubled, don’t be sorry for me. Be proud I’ve earned a place on the “Forever Team,” through a life of faithful service. ose that know me will attest that in a world of “Givers and Takers” I gave , gave, and gave some more.
My purpose in life and my joy truly came from helping others.
To Mom and Dad, I see, I hear you, it hurts now, but know that in a little while it’s going to be alright. You will forever feel my presence and remember the joy and love that bonds only shared between a parent and child.
To everyone else please honor my legacy, take note of how much I cared. Extend your hand and heart to someone in need. Express your love without seeking reciprocation. Do this o en and willingly and rest assured we’ll be together soon.

Ephesian 1:11 says In him we’re also chosen having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of HIS WILL. Stephen’s spirit is with God, free with no more pain. We miss Stephen dearly. He brought us so much joy and comfort. Let us be on the lookout for all that God is doing each day, trusting and knowing that God’s way is perfect (Sara Young).
