Notice of NCAA Probation

From 2007 to 2010 the University of Nebraska unintentionally reimbursed student-athletes for recommended textbooks as well as required textbooks through a failure to properly administer and monitor book scholarships. Only reimbursement for required books is permissible under NCAA rules. As a result, the NCAA placed the University of Nebraska on two-year probation, beginning in January of 2012. The NCAA did not impose additional penalties such as loss of scholarships, forfeiture of games, or a ban on postseason play. Rather, as a condition of probation, Nebraska will continue to educate student-athletes and staff thoroughly on NCAA bylaws and will notify prospective student-athletes of its probationary status.

Non-Discrimination Statement

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln does not discriminate based on gender, age, disability, race, color, religion, marital status, veteran’s status, national or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.

A Tradition of Success

Coach Robin Krapfl continues to emphasize the principles of achieving excellence on and off the course in her 27th season as Nebraska's head coach. It shows. Since Krapfl took the reins in 1987, the Huskers have: Earned a nation-leading 64 WGCA Scholastic All-America honors. In 1992, all five of Krapfl’s starters were honored with this distinction. It was the first time in women’s college golf history that a team had accomplished such a feat. Again in 2003, five Nebraska starters earned Scholastic All-America honors. Won 102 academic all-conference awards.  Produced two NCAA All-Americans, two conference champions, the 1990 Edith Munson Award winner, a twotime TrueTemper Scholastic Award honoree, one Big 12 Golfer of the Year, one Nebraska Student-Athlete-of-the-Year and 23 all-conference (16 Big Eight, 6 All-Big 12, 1 All-Big Ten) awards. Qualified for 11 NCAA Regionals. Participated in the first three NCAA Tournaments in school history with trips in 2000, 2003 and 2006. Regularly finished in the top half of the conference standings. Posted a team GPA of 3.71 in 2006-07, the fifth-highest team GPA in the nation. Despite the past success of NU's program, Krapfl believes the best is yet to come.

Huskers Take Aim at 12th NCAA Regional

In their first season of Big Ten Conference competition in 2011-12, the Huskers just missed an NCAA Regional berth while finishing sixth at the Big Ten Tournament. Madeleine Sheils earned All-Big Ten honors while tying for third at the Big Ten Championships. She also earned a spot in the NCAA Central Regional as an individual. Nebraska had its streak of three consecutive NCAA Regional bids end in 2008-09, but the Huskers will focus on earning their 12th regional bid since 1994 in 2013-14. NU advanced to its third consecutive regional in 2008, qualifying as the No. 17 seed in the NCAA Central Regional in Austin, Texas. The Huskers missed a berth to the fourth NCAA Championships in school history by just one stroke, finishing in a tie for 10th with a score of 903 on the University of Texas Golf Course. NU qualified for regionals on the heels of a solid sixth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater, Okla. Along with their strong play on the course, all five starters in Nebraska’s lineup earned academic All-Big 12 recognition. In 2006-07, NU earned a second straight NCAA Regional bid with a fourth-place Big 12 finish. NU claimed three team tournament titles, led by All-Big 12 performer Elli Brown. NU also led the conference with five academic All-Big 12 selections.

11 NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES

The Huskers produced one of the best seasons in school history in 2005-06, with a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Nebraska also posted its best-ever score at the NCAA Championships by firing a 1,221 over four rounds, 18 strokes better than the 1,239 NU shot at the 2000 NCAA Championships. The final-round 299 was NU’s best NCAA Championships mark in history. The 2005-06 Huskers finished eighth at the NCAA Central Regional after entering as the No. 15 seed in the 21-team field. The Huskers also tied for fourth at the Big 12 Championships at the Country Club of Lincoln. NU also produced the best team stroke average in school history (304.88). Stephanie Ruiz earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and finished in a tie for 38th at the 2006 NCAA Championships. In 2003, the Huskers played host to the NCAA Central Regional, held at Lincoln's Firethorn Golf Club. Nebraska was ranked 19th going into the tournament, but ascended to fifth place to qualify for the NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. The Huskers closed the season strong by finishing 22nd at the NCAA Championships. NU finished with a four-round total of 1,281 led by Sarah Sasse’s 40th-place showing. Krapfl, a native of West Point, Neb., has been associated with the Husker program since 1979 when she played collegiate golf for Nebraska (1979-82). A three-year letterwinner, she graduated from Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1984. Krapfl went on to become a PGA Professional at The Country Club of Lincoln, where she worked as an assistant under head professional and former Husker coach Jerry Fisher. Krapfl also worked under Fisher as an assistant for the Huskers from 1984 to 1987. As head coach, Krapfl has guided the Huskers to 28 tournament titles. She is only the third coach in Nebraska women's golf history, following former men's coach Larry Romjue and Fisher. She is married to Richard Krapfl and the couple has two sons, Robert and Ryan.

Shawn Eichorst was named the 14th Director of Athletics of the University of Nebraska by Chancellor Harvey Perlman on Oct. 4, 2012. Eichorst leads a tradition-rich athletic program of 24 varsity athletic teams, 600-plus student-athletes and more than 275 fulltime employees. Eichorst succeeded legendary Nebraska football coach and Athletic Director Tom Osborne and officially assumed his duties on Jan. 3, 2013. “I am honored to have the opportunity to join the University of Nebraska family,” Eichorst said. “Nebraska is an outstanding academic institution with one of the strongest athletic departments in all of college sports. Most importantly, everyone here is committed to keeping the welfare of our student-athletes at the heart of everything we do. I am humbled by the responsibility and opportunities that lie ahead and will work diligently to carry on the rich tradition of Husker excellence set forth by Coach Osborne and so many others.” Perlman said it was Eichorst’s commitment to putting studentathletes first that made Eichorst stand out. “When I asked him how I would be able to measure his success if he were here five years from now,” Perlman said, “his response was that if the coaches and student-athletes had been successful and nobody knows his name, it would be a success.” Although his preference is to serve and lead diligently from the background, Eichorst has already canvassed the state promoting Husker Athletics and Nebraska’s tremendously talented studentathletes making more than 70 appearances across Nebraska and visiting eight other states in just his first seven months. Eichorst emphasizes academics first and is proud to acknowledge Nebraska’s nation-leading 307 Academic All-Americans, including eight who earned the honor in 2012-13. In fact, he has invited all of the academic honor winners back to campus for a reunion in November. He has met with each college dean on campus and uses his monthly radio show and his Connecting on Campus column to promote campus, coach and student-athlete academic and community successes. More than 200 Husker student-athletes were honored at the academic recognition banquet this spring while 188 were named academic All-Big Ten in 2012-13. During Eichorst’s first semester at Nebraska in the spring of 2013, women’s bowling, coached by the legendary Bill Straub, won a national title and Rhonda Revelle’s softball team advanced to the Women’s College World Series. The women’s basketball team, coached by Connie Yori, completed a run to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in program history

Wisconsin-Whitewater (1990)

and the women’s tennis team, coached by Scott Jacobson, made an appearance in the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history and earned a share of the Big Ten title. Tennis player Mary Weatherholt finished runner-up at the NCAA Singles Championship, the highestever finish for a Nebraska tennis player. In addition to women’s tennis, two other Nebraska teams added Big Ten titles in the spring of 2013, as the women’s gymnastics team, coached by Dan Kendig, won its second-straight Big Ten title and third-straight conference title overall. The men’s track and field team, coached by Gary Pepin, claimed the outdoor team title. In the summer of 2013, three facility projects were completed: Memorial Stadium, which expands to accommodate more than 90,000 football fans and will include the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) and the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3) research facilities; Pinnacle Bank Arena in downtown Lincoln, where the Husker men’s and women’s basketball teams will be permanent tenants; and the renovated Bob Devaney Sports Center, where volleyball, men’s and women’s gymnastics and the wrestling team will compete. Construction for each of these three facilities began with Osborne at the helm. Athletic Director Emeritus Osborne continues to provide Eichorst with counsel on a number of items including the East Stadium research initiatives. The collaborative research that will take place within an athletic facility shared by academics and athletics is believed to be the first of its kind and sets the tone for the leadership role Nebraska has taken in the Big Ten Conference and nationally. Eichorst came to Nebraska after spending 18 months as the Director of Athletics at the University of Miami. He was named the 12th Director of Athletics at Miami on April 12, 2011 and served until Oct. 4, 2012 when he was hired by Nebraska as a Special Assistant to Chancellor Perlman. In his first year as Director of Athletics at Miami, Eichorst helped grow the academic reputation as well as the fan base. Under his watchful eye, the Hurricane Club grew by more than 500 members, surpassing 5,000 members nationwide. More than $19 million in student-athlete support was generated in 2011-12 and an additional $14.2 million in capital gifts was raised toward the new Center for Athletic Excellence facility, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2013. During his tenure, both the Hurricane men’s and women’s basketball programs advanced to the postseason, with the women posting the highest national ranking in school history at No. 5, advancing to the NCAA second round. The women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the fourth straight season and the baseball program extended its NCAA postseason appearances streak to 40 consecutive seasons. The women’s soccer team posted the first NCAA postseason win in program history, while the volleyball team advanced to the NCAA postseason for the third straight year and finished the season ranked 15th in the nation. Before his appointment at Miami, Eichorst served from 2009 to 2011 as the Deputy Athletics Director at the University of Wisconsin, where his responsibilities under Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez included serving as the department’s Chief Operating Officer and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the highly successful athletics program. At Wisconsin, Eichorst was involved in the design and planning of a new ice hockey and swimming facility completed in the fall of 2012, as well as with the Student-Athlete Performance Center in the north end zone of Camp Randall Stadium. He joined the Badgers’ staff in 2006 as a Senior Associate Athletics Director and was promoted to Executive Associate Athletics Director in 2007. Eichorst has experience with three BCS conference institutions

11 NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES

previously serving as University of South Carolina’s Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration from 2004 to 2006. With the Gamecocks, Eichorst oversaw daily operations of the department and supervised the football and baseball programs. The football team was bowl-eligible each year during Eichorst’s tenure, and the baseball program competed in the 2004 College World Series. Additionally, he coordinated and supervised multi-million dollar facility projects, including a state-of-the-art football training facility. Eichorst served as the Director of Athletics at his alma mater, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater until 2003. Under his tenure, UW-Whitewater developed into one of the nation’s top Division III athletic programs, with four top 10 percent National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Directors Cup finishes; one NCAA team championship; two NCAA team runner-up finishes and five individual national champions. The program also featured 38 Academic All-America selections, seven NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winners and 74 All-Americans. A native of Lone Rock, Wis., Eichorst was an all-conference defensive back, a three-time letterwinner and 1990 team captain for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team. He graduated magna cum laude in business from UW-Whitewater in 1990 and earned a law degree from Marquette University in 1995. He practiced law in Milwaukee before accepting the position at Wisconsin-Whitewater. He is a past member of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee and State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors. He also previously served as an assistant adjunct professor of law at Marquette University Law School, where he taught classes in sports law. He currently serves on the Marquette University National Sports Law Institute Board of Advisors. In 2006, he was awarded the Sports Law Alumnus of the Year by Marquette. He also is a graduate of the Sports Management Institute and serves on its Executive Committee. Eichorst and his wife Kristin have three sons: Jack, Joseph and Bennett.

Executive Associate A.D. 11th Season Kansas State (1984)

Associate A.D./Life Skills 26th Season Wayne State (Neb.) (1985)

A member of the Nebraska Athletics senior administration since May 2003, Marc Boehm (pronounced BAME) serves as executive associate athletic director and is the top assistant to the athletic director. Boehm fulfills the director’s responsibilities in his absence and also serves as the department’s chief operating officer. Boehm oversees the efforts of several areas within athletics, including marketing, media relations, HuskerVision, facilities and events. Boehm also oversees the Nebraska men’s and women’s basketball programs and the Husker soccer program. He also played a major role in the athletic department’s negotiations for its contract extension with IMG College Sports. To date, it is the largest multi-media rights contract in college athletics. As the primary administrator for the NU basketball programs, Boehm played an integral role in the hiring of Tim Miles as the Huskers’ new coach in March of 2012. He has also played a lead role during the men’s and women’s basketball programs move into Pinnacle Bank Arena in 2013-14. He also worked to help develop Nebraska’s new practice facility - the Hendricks Training Complex - which opened in October of 2011. Boehm has worked to create a fan-friendly atmosphere at men’s and women’s basketball, leading the Husker men’s program to shatter season ticket sales records for both programs as they move into the new arena. In fact, the men sold out season tickets for 2013-14 in early May, shattering the previous record for season tickets sold by well over 2,500. Under Boehm’s supervision, Coach Connie Yori’s women’s basketball program has enjoyed the most success in school history over the past five years. The Husker women have advanced to a pair of NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2009-10 and 2012-13, while producing the three highest single-season win totals in NU history over the past four years. Yori’s 2012-13 Huskers made their second NCAA Sweet 16 trip in the past four years, while finishing the Big Ten regular-season runner-up. Yori was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year, while NU’s 25 victories were the second-most in school history, trailing only the 2009-10 Huskers’ 32-2 campaign that included a perfect 16-0 Big 12 campaign. In 2009-10, Yori captured 2010 National Coach-of-the-Year honors by leading the Huskers to a Big 12 record-tying 30-game winning streak and the 2010 Big 12 regular-season title. NU ranked in the top 10 in the final national polls and seventh nationally in home attendance with 7,390 fans per game. In conference play, NU led the league with 11,383 fans per game. The Husker women have earned three NCAA Tournament trips in the past four years and have played for three conference titles during that span. The men have added four postseason trips during Boehm’s tenure, including a trip to the 2011 Postseason NIT. Boehm, who played a significant role in aiding Nebraska’s functional transition to the Big Ten Conference in 2011-12, was also instrumental in conceptualizing and developing the Husker Nation Pavilion, which is the premier pregame event around home football games. Boehm also took the lead role in obtaining First National Bank and Ameritas as premier sponsors for the Nebraska Athletic Department for a combined deal worth more than $7 million over a three-year period. First National Bank and Ameritas joined Pepsi and adidas as premier corporate sponsors for Husker athletics. Boehm held the same position at Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2003. Boehm assisted in the rise of the Panthers’ basketball program with the men’s team posting back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. During construction of the Panthers’ new athletic facilities, Boehm played a central role in Pitt’s athletic teams moving to the UPMC Sports Performance Complex, Heinz Field and the Petersen Events Center. Boehm served as interim athletic director at Pittsburgh for nearly five months before coming to Nebraska. During that time, he hired men’s basketball head coach Jamie Dixon. Boehm also spent five years as associate executive director of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. He directed and managed a 125-member fund-raising committee of Arizona business people responsible for generating more than $4.5 million in cash and in-kind partnerships. Previously he spent four years as associate executive director and public relations director of the Sun Bowl from 1987 to 1991. Born in Grand Island, Boehm earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Kansas State in 1984 and added a master’s degree in sports management from St. Thomas (Fla.) University in 1985. Boehm and his wife, the former Janelle Broderick of Minot, N.D., have three boys, Broderick, Christian and Lukas John.

In his 26th year serving Nebraska Athletics, Keith Zimmer leads Nebraska’s Life Skills unit within the department. He also serves as the sports administrator for the men’s and women’s golf program while playing in key role in continuing relationships with members of Nebraska’s Letterwinners N Club. Zimmer, who started at Nebraska in 1987, carries 25 years of life skills and student services experience and provides support to all current Nebraska student-athletes in addition to providing life skills guidance to former student-athletes. Components of the Husker Life Skills program include individual student-athlete meetings, major life skills events, facilitation of two zero-credit seminars, community outreach, graduate school assistance and postgraduate scholarships. Life Skills annually coordinates an Involvement Fair, Student-Athlete Career Fair, Networking Night, Senior Retreat and Leadership Breakfast. Zimmer, who worked in Nebraska’s Academic and Support Services area from 1988 to 2006, is regarded as a national leader in the life skills area. He received one of the top honors in college athletics in September of 2006, when he was chosen for the Dr. Gene Hooks Award as the Life Skills Administrator of the Year. Zimmer has also served as an NCAA Life Skills trainer and is active with the National Consortium for Academics and Sport. Zimmer continues to serve as the advisor of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and remains active in the Ventures In Partnership program, where student-athletes are integrated into various outreach initiatives with Lincoln Public Schools. Zimmer also pioneered the annual “School is Cool” Jam, which reached more than 100,000 middle-level students in the 12-year existence of the event. He is an honorary member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and Mortar Board and has received the Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Service to Students. Zimmer earned his bachelor’s degree at Wayne State College and his master’s in education from Springfield (Mass.) College. Zimmer and his wife, Michelle, have two sons, Logan and Caden.

Pat LOGSDON Senior Associate A.D./SWA 34th Season Nebraska (1989) A member of the Nebraska Athletic Department since 1979, Pat Logsdon currently serves as Senior Associate Athletic Director and is a member of Nebraska’s senior management team. She also serves as the Senior Woman Administrator to the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference and serves on the Big Ten Sports Management Council. Logsdon’s duties include oversight on all administrative issues and operational functions of the Athletic Director’s office, including the areas of Human Resources, Department Travel and the Department’s Gender Equity Plan. She also oversees equipment and serves as a liaison to adidas. In addition, Logsdon manages student-athlete end of season evaluations and exit interviews. She also serves as the sport administrator for volleyball, softball, and men’s and women’s gymnastics. Previously, Logsdon spent 23 seasons in football operations, including six seasons as NU’s director of football operations, the first female in Division I to serve in that capacity. She handled organization of all recruiting functions, supervised compliance activities and coordinated all football administrative operations, including travel and practice operations. Logsdon earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska in 1989.

More Experienced Huskers Ready to Climb

Senior leadership, more experience and greater depth in competition both in practice and tournaments are expected to help the Nebraska women’s golf team climb the ladder in the Big Ten Conference in 2013-14. Last season, Nebraska’s nine-player roster lacked both seniors and sophomores. This season, two extremely experienced seniors and four sophomores with solid experience of their own will make up the nucleus of the Husker lineup. “We were probably the youngest team I have ever coached last year,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “We didn’t graduate anybody this year, so having six players with lineup experience is definitely going to help us a lot this year.” Nebraska’s more experienced 2013-14 team starts with seniors Steffi Neisen and Katelyn Wright. Neisen enters her fourth full season in NU’s lineup with 96 rounds of experience. The three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American has played in a trio of conference tournaments and is a twotime Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner. After producing two of the top five freshman and sophomore stroke averages in school history, Neisen struggled at times as a junior. However, her career 77.58 stroke average ranks among the top 10 players in Husker history. “It is hard to believe Steffi is a senior already. I’m excited to see how she closes out her career,” Krapfl said. “She has the all-around skills to have a great year. It is great when your senior leaders really stay committed to getting better and have the desire to do everything they can to lead the team to a successful year.” Wright led the Huskers with a 77.39 stroke average as a junior. The Incline Village, Nev., native has played 89 competitive rounds as a Husker in her career and owns a 78.86 average. She played the best golf of her career last fall, when she notched a 75.13 average through 15 fall rounds, including a pair of top-five tournament finishes and a Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week award on Oct. 11. Wright battled health issues during the spring portion of her junior season but still represented the Huskers for the second time at the Big Ten Tournament. “Katelyn has put herself in position to have an outstanding senior season,” Krapfl said. “It starts with hard work for Katelyn, whether it is on the course, in workouts or any other area that can help her become a better player. Katelyn has taken charge and put in the hours. It is pretty exciting to see her grow as a person and a leader.” Without the benefit of having any juniors on this year’s roster, the leadership load for the Huskers will again fall on Wright and Neisen. However, a sophomore class that includes third-year returners Morgan Smejkal and Cassidy Stelzmiller will be much more prepared for the grind of the collegiate season than last year’s team. Add to the mix true sophomores Cassie Deeg and Hannah Luebke - Nebraska’s top two finishers at the 2013 Big Ten Tournament - and the Huskers enter the season with not only more experience, but also more talent and depth than a year ago. Stelzmiller earned WGCA Scholastic All-America and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards last season, while finishing in a tie for 50th at the Big Ten Tournament. The Placerville, Calif., native managed an 81.64 stroke average. “Cassidy was probably our most improved player last year, and we look for that to just continue,” Krapfl said. “She probably possesses the best short game on the team, and has good length, too. Cassidy has a very bright future, if she continues to work hard.” Smejkal could be another one of NU’s most improved golfers this year. The Columbus, Neb., native carried her improvement through the summer of 2013, when she captured the Nebraska State Women’s Match Play championship. Smejkal finished with an 81.56 stroke average through 25 rounds as a redshirt freshman.

Steffi Neisen owns one of the top 10 career stroke averages in Nebraska history. The three-year starter is NU’s most experienced golfer and is a leader on and off the course. The three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American is a two-time Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.

“Morgan gained some valuable playing time last season and really made a huge jump in her game over the summer,” Krapfl said. “She has an excellent work ethic and is a sponge for knowledge of things that will grow her game. I look to Morgan to be one of our most improved players this year, as she begins to trust and is able to play without thinking so much.” Deeg was arguably Nebraska’s steadiest player in 2012-13. The true freshman from Hugo, Minn., produced NU’s No. 2 stroke average (77.71), which ranked among the top rookie seasons in school history. She also led the Huskers with her tie for 32nd at the Big Ten Tournament. Deeg recorded a trio of top-20 finishes during the fall, including a career-best 10thplace effort at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial. She added Nebraska’s best individual round of the season with a 69 in the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge in the second tournament of her career. “Cassie is due to have a huge breakout,” Krapfl said. “She has a very high golf IQ and the overall skills to be a great player. I love her attitude, desire and personality. It will be exciting to see how much she improves this year as her comfort level rises.” Luebke emerged late in her true freshman campaign after battling a back injury in the fall season. The native of Germnay earned a lineup spot in NU’s final two tournaments of the season, finishing in a tie for 38th at the Big Ten Tournament. “Hannah got off to a slow start last season, as she battled illness while adjusting to a different culture,” Krapfl said. “She started to make big strides toward the end of the season. Hannah has tremendous upside. It will be exciting to watch her grow and develop. With her extreme length, she has the potential to dominate courses once the rest of her game matures. “Last year we only had two players who had ever played a collegiate round. This year, we head into the year with two seniors with some high caliber experience and four other players who have a year of real lineup experience under their belts. We think that is going to make a major difference for us.”

11 NCAA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES

In addition to the six golfers with lineup experience, Nebraska returns a pair of redshirt freshmen in Abbie Hunke and Yoorim Kang. Both golfers hope to push the six returning players for lineup positions throughout the season. The only new golfer on the Husker roster is Jordan Chael. The true freshman from Overland Park, Kan., brings impressive credentials and a ton of talent to the roster. Chael was the Kansas Class 5A state champion in the fall of 2012, while leading St. Thomas Aquinas to its third consecutive team title. She was ranked as the No. 58 player nationally in the Class of 2013 by Golfweek. “Even though we didn’t graduate any players from last year’s team, I anticipate Jordan having an immediate impact,” Krapfl said. “She is a highly competitive person with a high level of tournament experience and success. She is definitely going to make our team better and our competition better within our team.” While Nebraska’s team will be significantly more experienced than last year’s team, it will still be relatively young by Big Ten Conference standards. Last season, the Huskers finished 11th in a deep and talented Big Ten, a season after finishing sixth in their first year of Big Ten competition. “We feel a lot better about our talent, ability, experience and our team than we did at this time last year, so we’re excited about the progress we’ve made,” Krapfl said. “We expect better results on the course, and we will be challenged by another great schedule.” The Huskers open the season with the annual Chip-N Club Invitational in Lincoln, Sept. 9-10. The tournament returns to Wilderness Ridge Golf Course after being held at the Country Club of Lincoln the past two seasons. The Huskers hit the road for the first time when they travel to the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Sept. 16-17. The following week, Nebraska returns to a familiar tournament with the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. It will be the Huskers’ first trip to Kansas State as a Big Ten Conference school. After making the short drive to Manhattan, the Huskers will take nearly a month off from competition to focus on

individual improvement while preparing for the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 19-20. NU will wrap up the fall portion of its campaign the following week by traveling to the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 27-29. The spring schedule tees off with the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., Feb. 23-24. It will be the first of three straight trips to Arizona to open the spring campaign, including the Clover Cup in Mesa, March 14-16. Two weeks later, the Huskers make a return trip to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate, March 28-29. Spring season action will begin to heat up with a road trip to Texas for the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational, April 4-6. The Huskers will get an early look at some of the Big Ten Tournament field when they travel to the Ohio State Spring Invitational, April 19-20. The 2013-14 regular season concludes with the Big Ten Tournament at the Donald Ross Course at the French Lick Resort in Indiana. It will mark the third consecutive season that the Huskers have competed at the Big Ten Tournament on the Ross Course. Nebraska will be hoping that more experience and a more talented and deeper lineup will put them in position to contend for their 12th NCAA Regional bid since 1994. NCAA Regional competitions will be held in Stillwater, Okla. (Central), Cle Elum, Wash. (West) and Tallahassee, Fla. (East) May 8-10, before Tulsa, Okla., plays host to the NCAA Championships, May 20-23. “I’m excited to see the growth and development of our team this year,” Krapfl said. “We know with the schedule we face, nothing is going to be given to us. We are going to have to go out and earn it by working hard and believing in each other. We are certainly looking forward to see what we can accomplish this season.”

Roster/Schedule Information

Nebraska’s season-opening Chip-N Club Invitational returns to Wilderness Ridge in 2013. Wilderness Ridge served as the home of the tournament in 2008, 2009 and 2010, before the Chip-N Club Invite moved to the Country Club of Lincoln in 2011 and 2012. The Huskers won the Chip-N Club Invitational title at Wilderness Ridge in 2008.

Steffi is the daughter of Chris and Angie Neisen, and has a younger sister, McKenzie, and a younger brother, Thomas. Neisen made an early commitment to the Husker golf program, choosing Nebraska before her junior season of high school in 2009. She received offers from several Big Ten and Big 12 schools. Steffi is majoring in social science education at Nebraska, and earned WGCA Scholastic All-America honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013. She was a Big Ten Distinghuished Scholar and an academic All-Big Ten selection in 2012 and 2013. She has claimed spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll each of the last four semesters and was a two-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.

The most experienced Husker, Steffi Neisen enters her senior season at Nebraska having played in the NU lineup in all 96 rounds of her career. The New Prague, Minn., native produced Nebraska’s No. 3 stroke average (79.03) as a junior. Neisen hopes to close her career strong after producing some of the top season stroke averages in school history by a freshman (77.13) and a sophomore (76.67). She owns nine career top-25 finishes, including four top-10 showings. She also set the NU school record with a second-round 66 at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 23, 2012. In addition to her success on the course, Neisen is a star in the classroom. She will take aim at her fourth WGCA Scholastic All-America award in 2014. Neisen was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and academic All-Big Ten selection in 2012 and 2013. She also claimed Nebraska’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award both seasons. “It is hard to believe Steffi is a senior already. I’m excited to see how she closes out her career,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “She has the all-around skills to have a great year. It is great when your senior leaders really stay committed to getting better and have the desire to do everything they can to lead the team to a successful year.”

Junior (2012-13)

Neisen competed in all 31 rounds in the Nebraska lineup as a junior. However, she struggled at times as a junior and finished with a 79.03 stroke average on the year. She closed her third season in the NU lineup by tying for 41st at the Big Ten Tournament in French Lick, Ind., April 26-28. Neisen’s 79.03 stroke average ranked third among the Huskers, trailing Katelyn Wright and Cassie Deeg. Neisen notched the ninth top-25 finish of her career by tying for 22nd (78-78-70-226) at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., Feb. 24-25. Her final-round 70 was a season best, helping her to a season-best tournament total of 226. She opened the spring by tying for 70th (84-82-74-240) at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 10-12, before her season-best performance at the Westbrook Invite. She managed a tie for 77th (76-82-82-240) at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., March 9-10, before tying for second with a 79 in a dual at Kansas on March 20. Neisen closed the regular season with a tie for 62nd (89-82-80-251) at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational, April 5-7. Neisen opened her junior campaign by tying for 21st at Nebraska’s season-opening Chip-N Club Invitational with a three-round score of 237 (80-78-79). Neisen closed the 2012 fall campaign with a 227 at the Alamo Invitational, Oct. 28-30. She posted solid rounds of 75-75-77 in San Antonio to tie for 47th in a talented 15-team field. She struggled to a tie for 74th (79-77-86-242) in a loaded 18-team field at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo., Sept. 24-26. She bounced back to post a 230 (76-79-75) to tie for 46th at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 8-10, before finishing 45th with a 242 (79-83-80) at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Invitational in Springfield, Mo., Oct. 15-16. Off the course, Neisen continued to be a tremendous representative of the Husker program. She earned WGCA Scholastic All-America honors for the third straight year and claimed academic All-Big Ten accolades for the second time. Neisen was NU’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner and earned a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2013. She also captured a pair of spots on the Nebraska ScholarAthlete Honor Roll. Neisen, who owns the Nebraska single-round record with a six-under 66 in the second round of the 2012 Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., enjoyed a strong summer of 2012. She tied for second (70-68-138) in stroke play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Publinks Championships to qualify for the match play portion of the national event for the first time in her career. Neisen’s score trailed only 2012 USC All-American Lisa McCloskey (70-67-137) in Neshanic Station, N.J.

Sophomore (2011-12)

Neisen ranked second among the Huskers with a 76.67 stroke average while playing in all 33 rounds. She produced five top-25 finishes, including a trio of top-10 showings and the first top-five finish of her career with a tie for second at the 2011 Alamo Invitational to close NU’s fall campaign. Neisen’s performance at the Alamo Invite, Oct. 30-Nov. 1, was capped by a final-round 69 on her way to a career-best 214 tournament total. She opened with an even-par 72 in the first round and a 73 in the second round. Neisen was the Big Ten Golfer of the Week (Nov. 3, 2011). She added a school-record 66 in the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 23. She had an opening-round 75 and a final-round 74 to finish with the second-best tournament total

The daughter of Ron and Shelly Wright (Godeken), Katelyn has one younger brother, Jordan. Katelyn is majoring in textiles, merchandising and fashion design at Nebraska. She earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013, along with a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2012. She was a Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection during the fall of 2010 and the spring of 2011. Katelyn’s mother, Shelly was a two-time All-Big Eight golfer for the Huskers in 1983 and 1984. Her father, Ron, is also a Nebraska graduate. Wright chose Nebraska over Baylor, Wyoming and Nevada, among many others.

One of Nebraska’s most experienced golfers, Katelyn Wright returns for her fourth season in the Husker lineup. The Incline Village, Nev., native joins fellow three-year starter Steffi Neisen as the only seniors on the NU roster in 2013-14. The duo has joined each other in the Nebraska lineup for 64 consecutive rounds entering their senior seasons. Wright led Nebraska with a 77.39 stroke average as a junior, including a 75.13 over 15 fall rounds. She struggled with her health during the spring, which affected her game. After finishing in the top 20 at each of NU’s first four tournaments of the fall, Wright closed no higher than 48th in any tournament the rest of the season. Wright is hoping a healthy summer will lead to her best season as a Husker in 2013-14. She enters her senior season with seven career top25 finishes, including a tie for third at the 2012 Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. “Katelyn has put herself in position to have an outstanding senior season,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “It starts with hard work for Katelyn, whether it is on the course, in workouts or any other area that can help her become a better player. Katelyn has taken charge and put in the hours. It is pretty exciting to see her grow as a person and a leader.”

Junior (2012-13)

Wright was a leader for the Huskers on the course in 2012-13, competing in the NU lineup for all 31 rounds while leading Nebraska with a 77.39 stroke average. Wright produced four top-25 tournament finishes, including a pair of top five showings. She played the best golf of her collegiate career during the fall of 2012, leading the Huskers with a 75.13 stroke average over 15 fall rounds. She captured the first Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week award of her career on Oct. 11, after a career-best tie for third with a career-best 217 (71-74-72) at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. Wright followed up her performance at New Mexico State by tying for fourth (74-74-76-224) at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial, Oct. 15-16. It marked her second straight top-five finish and her fourth top-20 effort to begin the 2012-13 season. Wright ended the fall with a 233 (81-77-75) at the Alamo Invitational, Oct. 28-30. Her opening round in San Antonio was her only score above 80 during the fall. In 12 of her 15 rounds, she posted scores of 76 or better, including a pair of one-under-par 71s and an even-par 72. The 71s came in the opening rounds of the Golfweek Conference Challenge and the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational, and matched the best rounds of her career. Wright opened the season with a tie for 11th at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational (76-76-79-231) on the par-72 layout of the Country Club of Lincoln, Sept. 10-11. She added a tie for 20th in a loaded 18-team field at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo., Sept. 24-26. Wright posted a three-round score of 222 (71-76-75) that included a career-best-tying 71 in the opening round. Wright continued to play near the top of the NU lineup during the spring despite battling her health. She closed the season by finishing 58th at the Big Ten Tournament in French Lick, Ind., April 26-28, which pushed her spring stroke average to 79.50 over 16 rounds. She opened the spring by tying for 59th (79-81-75-233) at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 10-12. She added a tie for 48th (78-80-75-233) at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., Feb. 24-25, before tying for 59th (77-77-80-234) at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., March 9-10. After shooting an 83 in a dual at Kansas on March 20, Wright tied for 52nd (80-85-80-245) to close the regular season at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational, April 5-7. Off the course, Wright earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013, and a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2012.

Sophomore (2011-12)

Wright was a regular in the Nebraska lineup as a sophomore, competing in all 33 rounds. The Incline Village, Nev., native showed steady improvement, posting the Huskers’ No. 5 stroke average (79.06). She produced a breakthrough effort in NU’s second spring tournament by tying for 15th with a career-best 218 (73-74-71) at the Westbrook Spring Invite in Peoria, Ariz., Feb. 26-27. Her final-round 71 was a career best. She continued to build momentum by tying for 21st with a 234 (8078-76) in the BYU at Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah, March 19-20. She added a tie for 58th with a 230 (79-76-75) at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 23-24. Wright added NU’s No. 2 finish at the Ohio State Spring Invite to close the regular season. Her 239 (77-85-77) over three rounds tied for 35th. She closed the season by tying for 48th (84-80-73-237) at the 2012 Big

Ten Tournament on the Ross Course in French Lick, Ind. Her final-round 73 was the third-best round of the tournament by a Husker, trailing only a pair of 71s by Madeleine Sheils. Over her final 15 rounds of the spring, Wright produced a 77.20 stroke average. Wright opened the year by tying for 38th (82-82-79-243) at the Chip-N Club Invitational at the Country Club of Lincoln, Sept. 12-13. She added a tie for 55th (87-78-81-246) at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite in Sammamish, Wash., Oct. 3-5, before tying for 47th (81-79-78-238) at the Lady Northern in French Lick, Ind., Oct. 10-11. She followed with a tie for 55th (83-78-84-245) at the Hoosier Fall Invite in Carmel, Ind., Oct. 17-18, before closing the fall campaign with a 231 to tie for 51st at the Alamo Invite, Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Freshman (2010-11)

Wright posted an 80.08 stroke average in 25 rounds as a freshman. She competed inside the Husker lineup in the spring at the BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah, March 21-22. She tied for 48th (83-81-77-241) in the 82-player field in Utah, while her final-round 77 counted toward Nebraska’s best team score of the 54-hole event. She added a lineup appearance at the Mountain View Collegiate later the same week in Tucson, Ariz. Wright produced a three-round score of 235 (78-82-75) to finish in a tie for 79th. Wright closed the regular season by tying for 10th (87-82-169) at the 49-player Creighton Golf Classic in Omaha. She produced her best tournament with a season-best 228 (77-74-77) to tie for 32nd at the Alamo Invite to close the fall. Wright opened the spring by tying for 93rd (81-80-79-24) while playing as an individual in a 33-team field at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. She also competed as an individual outside the NU lineup at the UNLV Spring Invite in Boulder City, Nev., where she tied for 52nd. Her three-round score of 232 included a season-best 73 in the final round. She opened her career with a 74 in the first round of the Chip-N Club Invitational. Playing as an individual, Wright finished the rain-shortened event at 156 in a tie for 36th. Wright earned a lineup spot at Nebraska’s second tournament of the season, but struggled to a tie for 62nd (88-82-86-256) at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. High School/Amateur

Wright enjoyed a stellar prep career at Incline High School in Nevada for Coach Joe Humasti. In October of 2010, Wright became just the second high school player in the history of Nevada to win four consecutive individual state titles. She won the 2009 Class 2A crown by 26 strokes with a two-under-par 142 over two rounds at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club. Her final-round 70 came in cold, rainy conditions and included a sizzling 33 on the front nine. In 2008, she won the title by a staggering 28 strokes over just two rounds, to help Incline to a state runner-up finish as a team. Wright’s stroke average for her senior season was a 72, and she led the Highlanders to their first state team title since 2002, crushing runner-up Battle Mountain by 108 strokes. As a junior golfer, Wright was a four-time qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Championships and was a three-time member of the Junior America’s Cup team. She was also twice named the captain of that team. She was the 2008 Nevada Junior Amateur champion, and was the runnerup at the 2008 Nevada Women’s Amateur. A talented all-around athlete, Wright was a member of two state championship teams (track and golf, 2009), while adding six individual state crowns (four in golf, two in track). Wright was a first-team Class 2A all-state pick as a point guard on the Incline basketball team. She was an all-region selection, team MVP and earned four varsity basketball letters. She also lettered three times in track, where she helped Incline to the 2009 Class 2A state team title. Wright scored 36 points for the Highlanders, claiming a state title as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team, while adding runner-up honors in the 400, 800 and 4x100-meter relay. As a sophomore in 2008, Wright was named the track team’s MVP after helping the 4x100-meter relay capture a state title, while adding a runner-up finish as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. Cassie Deeg enters her sophomore season hoping to take her game to another level after an impressive freshman campaign. Deeg produced Nebraska’s No. 2 stroke average as a true freshman and led the Huskers with her tie for 32nd at the Big Ten Tournament in French Lick, Ind., to close the season. With a year of experience and growing confidence under her belt, the Hugo, Minn., native could be poised for bigger things as a sophomore for the Huskers. “Cassie is due to have a huge breakout,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “She has a very high golf IQ and the overall skills to be a great player. I love her attitude, desire and personality. It will be exciting to see how much she improves this year as her comfort level rises.”

Hannah Luebke closed her true freshman season with an impressive showing at the Big Ten Tournament. The native of Stuttgart, Germany, produced career bests with her final-round 75, her 54-hole score of 234 and her tie for 38th, which was Nebraska’s No. 2 individual finish. Her 234 and tie for 38th trailed only Cassie Deeg (232, T32nd) among the Huskers. Coach Robin Krapfl is hoping Luebke’s late-season push as a freshman will carry over to her sophomore season in 2013-14. As a true freshman, Luebke battled a back injury that limited her to playing just six rounds outside the NU lineup during the fall. She began to fully regain her strength midway through the spring season and her game began to round into form. She earned spots in the NU lineup in each of the final three events of the season, beginning with a dual at Kansas on March 20. One of the top young golfers in Germany, Luebke was the first European player to sign with the Huskers since Catha Fogelberg (Sweden) in 1997-98. Luebke is just the second German to join the Huskers in history, following in the footsteps of Shirin Hornecker (Munich, 1996-98). “Hannah got off to a slow start last season, as she battled illness while adjusting to a different culture,” Krapfl said. “She started to make big strides toward the end of the season. Hannah has tremendous upside. It will be exciting to watch her grow and develop. With her extreme length, she has the potential to dominate courses once the rest of her game matures.”

Freshman (2012-13)

Luebke closed her true freshman season as Nebraska’s No. 2 individual finisher at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind., April 26-28. Competing in the Husker lineup in just the second tournament of her career, Luebke notched a career-best tie for 38th with a career-best three-round total of 234 (81-7875). Her final-round 75 on the Ross Course was also a career best, surpassing the 78 she fired in the second round. Luebke made her first tournament appearance in the Husker lineup at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational April 5-7, to close the regular season. She finished 73rd (86-87-89-262) in Dallas, which followed a lineup appearance in a dual at Kansas on March 20, when she managed an 84.

In 13 rounds in 2012-13, including seven in the Husker lineup, Luebke produced an 82.92 stroke average. Luebke battled a back injury early in the fall season and was limited to competing in just two tournaments as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup. Big Ten Conference Since its inception in 1896, the pursuit and attainment of academic excellence has been a priority for every Big Ten member institution. But maintaining the conference’s status as one of the preeminent athletic conferences in the country also endures as an important component of the Big Ten student-athlete experience. Striking that balance between academics and athletics is integral to the Big Ten’s identity, and the Big Ten’s “Honoring Legends. Building Leaders.” campaign links directly to the Big Ten mission. Recognized as one of intercollegiate sports’ most successful undertakings, the Big Ten strives for success from its student-athletes not only on the field and in the classroom, but around the world as well.

Attendance The Big Ten leads all conferences with nearly five million alumni and more than 460,000 students. Big Ten fans are some of the nation’s most supportive, with nearly 9.8 million patrons attending conference home contests during the 2012-13 seasons for football, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball alone.

James E. Delany Commissioner

Academics All Big Ten universities have been granted Tier One Status by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, a distinction awarded to just over 100 universities. Big Ten schools have produced more than 1,450 Academic All-Americans, more than any other conference, including 46 in the last academic year. For the 2011 fiscal year, the Big Ten led all conferences with over $8 billion in research expenditures, more than $2 billion more than any other conference. Successful Programs During the 2012-13 season, Big Ten institutions claimed seven national championships: Indiana men’s soccer; Michigan men’s gymnastics; Michigan men’s swimming and diving; Minnesota women’s ice hockey; Nebraska women’s bowling; Ohio State women’s rowing; and Penn State wrestling. Over the last 10 years, the Big Ten is tied for the conference lead with national titles in 14 different NCAA-sponsored championships, including bowling, cross country, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. Student-Athlete Opportunities Big Ten universities provide over $136 million in direct financial aid to nearly 10,000 student-athletes, more than any conference. The Big Ten sponsors 25 official conference sports, 12 for men and 13 for women. The 26th conference sport, men’s ice hockey, will begin in 2013. Television Exposure Through the Big Ten’s media agreements with CBS Sports, ABC/ESPN, FOX and the Big Ten Network (BTN), nearly 1,000 Big Ten events are produced and distributed nationally on an annual basis. In 2006, the Big Ten created BTN, the first national conference-owned television network. With more than 53 million subscribers in the United States and Canada – and more outside the Big Ten region than inside – BTN allows fans to see their teams compete regardless of where they live.

Honoring Legends. Building Leaders. The mission of the Big Ten Conference has always been to excel athletically without compromising the priority our member institutions assign to their academic standards and to their commitment to student academic success. We seek to celebrate the many accomplishments of Big Ten student-athletes while continuously reinforcing each of our member institutions’ high academic standards. Striking that important balance between academics and athletics is integral to the Big Ten’s identity, and the Big Ten’s “Honoring Legends. THREE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCES

18 | nebraska women’s golf | 2013-14

Young Huskers Lay Foundation For Future Success One of the youngest Nebraska women’s golf teams in school history laid the foundation for success in the future during the 2012-13 campaign. A Nebraska roster that held no seniors and no sophomores battled through a challenging schedule on the road to concluding its season at the 2013 Big Ten Tournament in French Lick, Ind. Juniors Steffi Neisen and Katelyn Wright, the only returning letterwinners on Nebraska’s nine-member roster, provided the leadership for the Huskers throughout the season. Wright was a catalyst for the Huskers early in the year and continued her improvement on the course. The Incline Village, Nev., native led the Huskers with her 77.39 stroke average. Wright shaved nearly two strokes off her average from her sophomore campaign. She was at her best during the fall portion of the season, when she recorded a 75.13 stroke average through 15 rounds. Wright’s fall included the first Big Ten Golfer-ofthe-Week award of her career on Oct. 11, after a career-best tie for third with a career-best 217 at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. Wright’s performance in New Mexico included a career-best opening-round 71. Wright continued her hot play the following week at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo. She tied for fourth with a 224 over three rounds at the event, notching her fourth consecutive top-20 finish to open the season. She opened the season by tying for 11th at Nebraska’s annual Chip-N Club Invitational, before tying for 20th in a loaded 18-team field at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo., Sept. 24-26. Unfortunately for Wright and the Huskers, her impressive fall campaign was followed by an unhealthy spring season. Wright battled health issues for much of the spring, which limited her effectiveness on the course. She still managed a 79.50 stroke average over 16 spring rounds, before her season came to a close with a 58th-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. “Katelyn was playing some really good golf during the fall, and you could see her tapping into her potential,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “Then the spring came around, and it was a struggle for her because of her health. It definitely affected our lineup from top to bottom.” Fellow junior Steffi Neisen, Nebraska’s most experienced golfer, produced a solid season with a 79.03 stroke average over NU’s 31 rounds. Neisen enjoyed an impressive summer of 2013, but struggled early in the fall. The New Prague, Minn., native managed just one top-45 finish in the fall, before battling through an up-and-down spring campaign. She closed her third season in Nebraska’s lineup with a tie for 41st at the Big Ten Tournament. “Steffi put a lot of pressure on herself both academically

Cassie Deeg produced the fourth-best stroke average (77.71) by a Nebraska freshman in school history in 2012-13. The Hugo, Minn., native also notched Nebraska’s best finish at the 2013 Big Ten Tournament by tying for 32nd with a three-round score of 232. Deeg recorded a trio of top-20 tournament finishes during her first season as a Husker.

and on the course last year, and it made things tough for her,” Krapfl said. “She went into every round thinking she had to put up a great score, while also providing emotional support and leadership for our other golfers who had never been in those positions. By the end of the year, Steffi had learned a lot about herself and our team, and I think that is going to pay dividends for her in the future.” While Nebraska’s junior leaders worked to provide consistency for a young team, true freshman Cassie Deeg made a major impact. The Hugo, Minn., native notched Nebraska’s No. 2 stroke average (77.71). She also posted NU’s top showing at the Big Ten Tournament, finishing in a tie for 32nd with a 232 over three rounds. Deeg produced a trio of top-20 finishes on the year, including a 10th-place effort with a 227 at the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial. She added a career-best 221 to tie for 12th the previous week at the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. Deeg showed the ability to go low with her opening-round 69 on perhaps the biggest stage of the season at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. Deeg’s 69 was the best individual round by a Husker in 2012-13 and came in a loaded 18-team field in the second tournament of her collegiate career. “I loved Cassie’s approach throughout the season,” Krapfl said. “She showed focus and competitiveness 2012-13 Nebraska Individual Stroke Averages throughout the season, and Golfer Strokes Rounds Average had an impressive freshman Katelyn Wright . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2,399....................... 31 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 77.39 season. first seasons on the course for the Huskers. Stelzmiller improved throughout the season and earned a spot in the lineup for the Huskers at the Big Ten Tournament. She finished in a tie for 50th in French Lick, including a careerbest 76 in the final round. She joined Neisen and O’Doherty in earning WGCA Scholastic All-America honors at the end of the season. O’Doherty played in all 31 rounds for the Huskers and managed an 81.58 stroke average. She tied for 53rd at the Big Ten Tournament. A standout in the classroom, O’Doherty decided to discontinue her golf career at Nebraska prior to the start of the 2013-14 campaign in order to focus on her pre-medicine studies. Smejkal managed an 81.56 stroke average through 25 rounds, including a top-25 finish to open the season at the Chip-N Club Invitational. The Columbus, Neb., native enjoyed a strong summer following her redshirt freshman season, including a Nebraska State Women’s Match Play championship. True freshman Hannah Luebke also emerged for the Huskers late in the year to earn a spot at the Big Ten Tournament. The young German overcame a back injury while also trying to make the adjustments to collegiate golf and a new culture during the fall campaign. She earned her first two lineup spots of the year in NU’s final two tournaments, including a tie for 38th (234) at the Big Ten Championships. Her performance in French Lick included a career-best final-round 75. “We knew going into the season that we had a lot of question marks because we were so young,” Krapfl said. “Our tournament results were not what we’ve come to expect with our tradition of success at Nebraska, but we answered a lot of questions during the year and the experience gained by last year’s four freshmen will pay huge dividends in the upcoming years.”

NEBRASKA

ebraska continues to add to its impressive tradition of success in women’s golf. In 2012, Madeleine Sheils became the first golfer in Husker history to earn All-Big Ten honors by taking third in Nebraska’s first-ever Big Ten Tournament. Sheils, who went on to compete at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio, capped one of the top careers in school history as a four-time WGCA Scholastic All-American. In 2008, the Huskers earned their 11th trip to the NCAA Regional Championships, just missing a bid to the 24-team NCAA Championships. The Huskers have finished among the top 24 teams in the nation three times in the past 14 seasons. In 2006, the Huskers posted the best NCAA Championship score in school history, while finishing 20th at the event.

Entering her 27th season at the helm of the Nebraska women’s golf program, Coach Robin Krapfl has guided the Huskers to 28 tournament titles, 11 NCAA Regional appearances and all three of the school’s NCAA Tournament bids. Husker women’s golfers epitomize Nebraska’s commitment to success in athletics, academics and life. Husker golfers have captured a nationleading 64 WGCA Scholastic All-America honors. The Husker women’s golf team is also one of NU’s most active teams in the community.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS

The success of Nebraska student-athletes reaches far beyond athletic competition. More Husker student-athletes have been selected to CoSIDA Academic All-America teams (307) than any other school in the nation, and Nebraska has produced more NCAA Top Ten Award winners (16) than any other school. As it enters its third season of Big Ten Conference competition in 2013-14, Nebraska continues to set the standard for the approximately 1,400 NCAA member institutions. The Husker football team leads all individual sport programs in the nation with 104 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-America awards. The Notre Dame football program ranks second among all sports nationally with 58 all-time academic All-Americans. In fact, Nebraska’s 104 football academic All-Americans would rank among the top 25 schools (all sports, all divisions) in the nation in the number of total CoSIDA Academic AllAmericans. The NU volleyball program has captured more academic All-America awards (37) than any other women’s team in the nation, while the Husker softball program ranks second on that list with 29 selections. Nebraska also ranks among the top 10 schools in the nation in CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in baseball, women’s basketball and men’s and women’s track and field/cross country. Over the past two years, the men’s and women’s track and field programs have produced 10 CoSIDA Academic AllAmericans - the most in the nation during that span.

Huskers Build on Academic Tradition in 2012-13

Husker student-athletes produced another outstanding year in 2012-13, continuing NU’s tradition of academic success. The Huskers added eight CoSIDA Academic AllAmericans to their nation-leading total (307) to become the first school in history to reach 300 academic All-Americans. Nebraska’s eight academic All-Americans led the Big Ten Conference and ranked among the highest totals in the nation across all divisions. NU maintained its lead of 76 alltime CoSIDA Academic All-Americans All Sports as of August 2013 over No. 2 Notre Dame. Since 2000, Nebraska has amassed a nation-leading 117 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, which would rank in a tie for 13th over the more than 60 years of the academic All-America program. Nebraska has produced at least one academic AllAmerican in 42 consecutive seasons. Senior I-back Rex Burkhead captured first-team academic All-America honors for the second straight season, while senior linebacker Sean Fisher earned second-team honors for the second straight year. Fisher added a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. While Burkhead and Fisher became the 25th and 26th two-time academic All-Americans in the history of the Husker football program, senior track and field student-athlete Bjorn Barrefors became the first four-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in school history. A six-time All-American as a multi-eventer, Barrefors was Nebraska’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year and claimed an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He was joined by 10-time All-American Mara Griva and Morgan Wilken in giving the track team a trio of academic All-Americans. AllAmerica wrestler Josh Ihnen added his second straight academic All-America award, while eight-time gymnastics All-American Emily Wong captured the first academic AllAmerica award of her career. Gina Mancuso added a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America award to the Husker volleyball team’s nation-leading total of 37, while helping the Huskers to an NCAA Elite Eight appearance on the court. Senior Mary Weatherholt also capped the most brilliant career on and off the court in Nebraska women’s tennis history. NU’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year earned

THE NEBRASKA ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

From the day student-athletes decide the University of Nebraska is the right place to be, the athletic academic counseling unit provides personal and academic support to ensure that student-athletes will get the most out of their years as Huskers. Featuring one of the most innovative and comprehensive academic support systems in the country, Nebraska is dedicated to helping its student-athletes become outstanding leaders in their chosen fields. The academic support team is comprised of 13 full-time staff members and a tutorial staff of approximately 75 tutors addressing all subject areas.

Academic Counseling

Eight academic counselors and three assistant academic counselors are in place to monitor daily academic progress, receive consistent course feedback, assist with the advising/registration process and monitor continuing eligibility and progress toward graduation. Essentially, academic counselors assist student-athletes in navigating the University of Nebraska system.

Tutorial Support

A tremendous resource for all academic abilities, unlimited tutorial support is available from day one up to college graduation. Subject and mentor tutors help provide academic support and study strategies to be successful. Supplemental Instruction, a sub-component of the tutorial program, provides targeted group review sessions to help ease the transition to college academics while improving study strategies and building academic self-esteem.

Study Hall

Nebraska’s study hall program is housed in the D.J. Sokol Enrichment Center within the Dick and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex. Student-athletes attend a supervised, flex-time study hall that features day, evening and weekend hours. Mentoring

Many student-athletes meet with a mentor on a weekly basis to assist in making a smooth transition from high school to college. Mentors collect syllabi, gather and report academic progress information and teach academic success strategies.

Educational Assessments

Assessments are administered upon the request of the student-athlete, academic counselor, or coach to determine student strengths and areas for improvement. Results allow academic counselors to develop a personalized academic support program and to determine if more in-depth testing is warranted. When additional assessments are necessary, referrals are made to a consulting psychologist who conducts the assessments. If it is determined that a student-athlete has a learning disability, appropriate accommodations are made through the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.

Student-Athlete Orientation

The academic staff coordinates New Student-Athlete Orientation to help newcomers adjust to the multiple demands of being a college student-athlete. Presentations are made by academic counselors, compliance officials, NU faculty and administrators, business/community professionals and student-athletes.

Personal Counseling

Student-athletes will find a supportive and caring environment at Nebraska. Transitional issues, stress management, time management, academic focus and problem resolution are all addressed in a proactive manner throughout the year. If necessary, counseling referrals are also made to designated practitioners.

Computer Resources

Student-athletes enjoy a new state-of-the art computer lab and technology center with 58 computers and professional supervision. Laptops are also available during team travel. Student-athletes have the benefit of ongoing education and assistance from a full-time computer technician.

BIG TEN CONTINUES TO EXPAND NATIONAL REACH

On July 1, 2011, the University of Nebraska became an official member of the Big Ten Conference, increasing the Big Ten’s membership to 12 institutions for the first time in conference history. The addition of Nebraska marked the Big Ten’s first expansion since Penn State University joined the conference in June of 1990. The nation’s oldest conference will continue to grow with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers in 2014-15. Currently, the Big Ten Conference is a union of 12 worldclass academic institutions – who share a common mission of research, graduate, professional and undergraduate teaching and public service.
