We have many music and academic majors for you to choose from, many opportunities for involvement, and tremendous scholarships to match your participation regardless of your chosen major. ENSEMBLES

At Carey, we believe that becoming a great musician means making great music. Our students participate in a wide variety of ensembles. CAREY CHORALE is the premiere auditioned choral ensemble at the university. This ensemble presents frequent concerts and performs extensively in schools and some churches. Members of this ensemble also participate in the Worship Choir. WOMENS CHOIR is an auditioned choir that sings SSAA literature and performs in chapels and other choral events. Members of this ensemble also participate in Worship Choir. WORSHIP CHOIR is open to all Carey students and no audition is required. This ensemble performs in churches and provides music for chapel services both on and off campus. ORATORIO CHOIR performs major choral works and is comprised of the Chorale, Women's Choir, and guest singers from the community. CARPENTER’S WOOD is an

auditioned small vocal ensemble that performs in churches and for community events.

RESTORATION BAND is an auditioned contemporary Christian band that performs in churches and student ministry events. INDIGO MUSICA is an elite chamber choir that performs a cappella choral repertoire from the Middle Ages to works by modern composers.

WORSHIP SINGERS is a high energy, Spirit-led, praise and worship vocal ensemble that travels to lead in churches, Christian school chapels, and other community and regional events. COMMISSIONERS QUARTET

MUSICAL THEATRE ENSEMBLE SPIRIT OF CAREY is a high-impact

and OPERA WORKSHOP perform a variety of productions each year. From "White Christmas" to the "Magic Flute," these talented students have opportunities to perform large-scale shows with full orchestra both at Carey and at regional theaters.

SYMPHONIC WINDS is the top auditioned wind ensemble at the university. This ensemble performs symphonic literature for concerts and school events throughout the year. Instrumentalists who do not make this ensemble are invited to participate in CONCERT BAND. CAREY BIG BAND plays a variety of jazz literature from standards to contemporary arrangements. They perform for campus and community events. KNIGHTS OF JAZZ is a small jazz combo that performs for campus activities, civil functions, and community events. GUITAR ENSEMBLE features guitar majors who play a wide variety of musical styles. These talented performers have the opportunity to arrange literature and perform transcriptions from all of the musical genres.

EVIDENCE is our competitive Winter Guard International winds group that competes in regional and national contests and is made up of auditioned members from the Spirit of Carey. PIANO ENSEMBLE features multiple pianists who perform a wide variety of piano literature. Very popular for Christmas concerts, this ensemble is available for church and school educational programs. HANDBELL ENSEMBLE performs handbell settings of sacred, classical, and secular music. Always featured in Christmas concerts, this ensemble is open to all students by audition. CHAMBER ENSEMBLES are formed from multiple studios in the music department and perform on campus and in school settings. WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA performs a wide

variety of orchestral literature. This auditioned ensemble provides music for university events, local concerts, and school programs.

Music DEGREES AT CAREY

All of our music degrees are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Our music therapy degree is also accredited by the American Music Therapy Association. Just as William Carey's namesake, we strive to make our world a better place by “Expecting Great Things from God and Attempting Great Things for God.”

DOCTOR OF ARTS IN MUSIC WITH A PRIMARY EMPHASIS IN MUSIC EDUCATION OR WORSHIP MINISTRY The Winters School of Music, in an effort to meet the needs of both the education community as well as the church community, is excited to offer a FULLY online doctoral program that may be adapted, through choice of primary emphases and electives, to meet the specific desired learning outcomes of the student. This degree will meet the needs of students who are interested in furthering their knowledge, earning a terminal degree that will open possibilities for collegiate teaching positions, or to earn credentials for the purpose of improving compensation and retirement benefits. THE MASTER OF MUSIC IN WORSHIP STUDIES allows working church musicians to continue to develop specialized skills as musicians and worship leaders. This degree is FULLY online and can be completed in one calendar year. Students choose from Worship Ministry, Conducting, Performance, or Worship Technology emphases. THE MASTER OF MUSIC EDUCATION This degree is available FULLY online with common sense entrance requirements. Emphasis is given to developing highly skilled teachers in their field with the needs and demands of the working professional in mind. THE BACHELOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION: CHORAL This degree meets all the requirements for licensure and is designed to prepare music teachers for the elementary through high school music classroom. THE BACHELOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION: INSTRUMENTAL Designed to produce band directors and orchestra conductors in the public and private school, this degree prepares students to develop and lead instrumental programs. Students will be well trained in concert and in marching band settings.

THE BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN MUSIC THERAPY Students in this degree learn to use music as a therapeutic tool for a wide variety of clients with special needs. Music Therapy students at Carey have unique opportunities to do practica with clients in a variety of clinical settings. THE BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE While all music majors at Carey are expected to perform at a very high level, this degree is designed for students who want to perform professionally in their chosen area. THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN DANCE provides an opportunity for students to enter a challenging curriculum focused on technical proficiency, artistry, and professional fieldwork. In turn, the program contains 17 free electives that can be applied towards a minor or a second major providing our graduates with multiple avenues of career choice. THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN WORSHIP LEADERSHIP was developed with the full-time and bivocational worship leader in mind. This degree is designed with free electives to use for a Minor or a Second Major. THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN WORSHIP TECHNOLOGY was developed with the full-time and bivocational worship technology or Christian music industry professional in mind. This degree is designed with free electives to use for a Minor or a Second Major.
