Conflicts always occur. It is in the resolution of conflicts that human beings stand out. Every conflict can and should be calmed by talking about and understanding one another’s needs and by acting with compassion to solve the differences. This is how all people should get along. This is how we must get along! Respectfully, Ms. Sheila Huff, Principal

A message from Mr. David St. Clair, Asst. Principal Dean Bullying can be a very intimidating situation for a child. It can happen to a student several different ways; physical, verbal, or emotional. A bully has many avenues in and out of school to deliver their abuse. Bullies have access to cell phones for texting, netbooks for e-mail, or just their physical presence to try and intimidate the targeted person. Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) and the Bosse Staff have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy regarding bullying. Your child’s safety and wellbeing are top priorities for us. Please talk to your child about bullying and notify the Administrative staff if you suspect your son or daughter is a victim of bullying.

One tip I would like to suggest is that if bullying is happening through the netbook or texting, have your child save the messages.

Parents we need your cooperation in regards to enforcing Bosse’s dress code. We are trying to create an atmosphere of learning and modesty at Bosse. We know students have many distractions each day. Having students dress in a manner that is appropriate for school, we are eliminating one of those distractions. We as a school, feel that your son or daughter should not be subjected to inappropriate dress. We are asking for your help: please check your child’s attire before they leave for school.

Shirts must have sleeves and cover cleavage, back and midriff

Shorts/dresses/skirts must be at least fingertip length when arms are held straight at the side (this includes shirt/dresses worn over leggings)

Pants/shorts must be worn at the natural waist (no sagging pants)

Undergarments should not be visible

No pajamas or house shoes/slippers

No hats or head wraps

No gum

Backpacks should be stored in lockers before reporting to 1st period

Clothing should not display any profanity, drugs, alcohol or sexual innuendo

No holes/tears in jeans

From the School Nurse, Welcome back students. New minimum Immunization requirements for all students in high school include one dose of Tdap, one dose of Meningococcal conjugate (Meningitis) vaccine, and 2 doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccine or written history of chicken pox disease. If your student has not received these vaccines, or you have not gotten written proof of the vaccines to the nurse office please do this as soon as possible. If you still need these vaccines they may be obtained through your family doctor or the Health Dept. Vaccines will be given at the Health Dept. on a walk-in basis only on Mon-Wed-Fri 8-3 and Tues 10-5. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and all shot records. Wear short sleeves and eat before coming to the clinic. If you have any questions my office hours are 8:30-12:30 every day or you can call me. I will have a web page up soon on the Bosse High School site. I hope we have a healthy and safe school year. BPA and DECA Encourage your business student to get involved!! Bosse High School has two business clubs in which students can get involved: BPA and DECA. The goal of both clubs is to develop professionalism and leadership. BPA: Business Professionals of America is the leading CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. BPA has more than 51,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states. BPA is a "co-curricular" organization that supports business and information technology educators. BPA contests test the students’ classroom ability into “real world” applications. To find out more information about BPA, visit the national website at www.bpa.org. DECA: Distribution Education Clubs of America prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA is organized into two unique student divisions each with programs designed to address the learning styles, interest and focus of its members. The High School Division includes 185,000 members in 5,000 schools. With over a 60 year history, DECA is a “co-curricular” organization that supports marketing educators by providing contests that enhance classroom instruction. Through competition, DECA applies what is learned in the classroom into the context of business, connecting to business and the community. To find out more information about DECA, visit the national website at www.deca.org Based upon the business classes your student is taking, students can compete in a variety of contests. In DECA, there are over 40 contests in which students can compete. DECA contests are directed toward marketing concepts such as Sports and Entertainment Marketing , Apparel and Accessories Marketing, Business Law and Ethics, Travel and Tourism, Quick Serve Restaurant, etc. In BPA, there are over 50 contests in which students can chose. BPA contests include Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Job Interview, Spreadsheet Applications, Web Design, Word Processing, etc. Both clubs begin competition at the District level. If the students place, they advance to State competition. At State, if students place in the top three, they qualify for National competition. Both clubs have had much success at competition and we look forward to another great year!

Our students at Bosse are very fortunate to be part of the 1:1 initiative with the EVSC. Equity and excellence for all students–our district’s goal–enables us to provide netbooks for all of our students, regardless of income or background. With the support of EVSC parents and the community, we can prepare our children and students to become future leaders equipped with the 21st century skills necessary to succeed in a fast-paced, ever-changing world. Three key documents, located on the desktop of every student netbook, should be read and reviewed by parents and students. These documents review the expectations of students regarding the netbooks and their usage both in school and at home. If no internet access is available at home, students may download materials to their netbooks prior to leaving the school network, or use any of the many Internet wifi “hotspots” at the public libraries, restaurants, or coffee shops. From Mr. Larry Cochren, Athletics Director We currently have 114 student-athletes participating in eight fall sports. The Bosse athletic schedules can be found at www.highschoolsports.net for those interested in coming out and supporting our student-athletes.

New website: www.bossebulldogsfootball.com SIAC Passes Are available in the Athletic office! The passes will get entry into 10 home game/events does not include Lloyd pool or soccer. Adults: $30 Students: $20 License plates: $10.00 Paw decals: $5.00 The Bosse Cheerleaders have been hard at work since the first week of June to get ready for the upcoming sports seasons. The girls are excited and ready to cheer on the football team this fall! In addition to practices, the cheerleaders participated as entertainment for the Southern Indiana Classic Half and Full Marathon. It was a great event and the cheerleaders did their best to pump up the runners at the 18-mile marker. Through cheers and chants tailored toward running and lots of “Great Job” and “You can do it” encouragement, we were able to provide the runners with a little extra push to the finish line. We have also been busy fundraising by doing car washes, jump-a-thons, working the 4-H food booth and obtaining sponsors all in an effort to replace uniforms that are seven years old. If you are interested in helping the cheerleaders obtain their goal by being a sponsor, please contact Kacey Schenk at 812-454-5505. Can’t wait to see you all at the games!

Dear Bosse Supporter: The Bosse High School Cheer Team is excited and ready for the upcoming football and basketball seasons, and for cheering our teams to victory. We were recently invited to be part of the entertainment for the Southern Indiana Classic Half and Full Marathon. It was a great event and the cheerleaders did their best to pump up the runners at the 18-mile marker. Through cheers and chants tailored toward running and lots of “Great Job” and “You can do it” encouragement, we were able to provide the runners with a little extra push to the finish line. Our team truly appreciated the kind words the runners had for us in return.

This is one of many community events, games, practices and fundraising efforts the Bosse Cheerleaders participate in year after year. As the Varsity coach for over five years, I have had the privilege and opportunity to get to know and work with many of the great young women at Bosse High School. This year, our cheerleading team will consist of 27 young women from grades nine through twelve, which is one of our largest teams ever! We are very proud of our accomplishments and representing Bosse High School.

The cheerleading members are working hard to raise funds to purchase new cheerleading uniforms for the upcoming 2010-2011 sports season. We are trying to replace uniforms that are almost 7 years old and in need of repair, and we need your help!

This year we are hoping you will show your support for the Bosse Cheer Team by becoming a banner sponsor:

Banner sponsorship. We will place your company or individual name on a banner with our other sponsors that will be displayed at all home football and basketball games for the upcoming season. Red Level Sponsor $150 + White Level Sponsor $100 Gray Level Sponsor $50 We hope you are as excited as we are about the upcoming school year and sports season, and hope to see you at a few games! Thanks in advance for your support. Attached is a return form that can be used to pledge your sponsorship.

Go Bulldogs! Sincerely, Kacey Schenk Bosse Cheer Coach
