purr-fest “Nothing lasts forever dude,” or so goes the poster for punk band Bomb the Music Industry’s upcoming final dates in January in New York. But you might recall that BTMI played one of its “last shows” in Missoula in fall 2012, and then kept touring for months. Nothing lasts forever, for sure—especially bands’ threats that they’re done for. One of Missoula’s punk outfits arises from the grave, or maybe the litter box, when Cat Heaven plays a reunion show at the ZACC. The band included Tyson Ballew on guitar and vocals, Buddy Jackson’s Grant Geiger on drums and the Whoopass Girls’ Ethan J. Uhl on guitars and “screamy vocals.” They called it quits when Ballew moved away from Missoula in 2012. Ballew, you may remember, is also a tireless solo artist, frequent show promoter and maestro at Tummy Rock Records. Missoula lost a great DIY organizer when he moved away, but fortunately, he

still comes back on occasion. We also lost a great little pop punk outfit when Cat Heaven disbanded. The August 2012 album Fear of A Cat Planet has some real gems, like the angsty “(Fuckin’ Up) in Montana” and “Garden City Hardcore,” which is probably the most perky song I’ve ever heard that complains about the lack of a punk scene. It’s a rare bit of fun to hear punk rock that’s so Missoulareferential. As a whole, Cat Heaven is a perfect example of the Tummy Rock Records motto: “Have Fun, Play Nice, Sing Loud.” Bands may come and go, but it’s a motto that seems pretty timeless. —Kate Whittle
