11:00 am – 3:00 pm An Afternoon on the Town Downtown Houghton

Join the Resident Assistants, Commuter Assistants, OTLs, and other students in a fun-filled day discovering the city of Houghton! Meet your RA or Commuter Assistant at a pre-determined location to walk downtown along College Avenue. Businesses from around the city and in the area will be offering specials for Michigan Tech students. Visit participating businesses to be entered in a prize drawing!

3:00 – 7:00 pm Foundry Fun Day M&M (12), Foundry Lab

3:00 - 6:00 PM Casting: This session will introduce you to sand casting, one of the methods used to make metallic objects. This is a hands-on workshop as you will make and get to take home an aluminum replica of some already existing pattern. We have many interesting patterns, but encourage you to bring simple objects to cast (single-piece plastic toys, apples, bowls, etc). Cost is $5 and tickets are available at tickets.mtu.edu.

3:00 - 5:00 PM Blacksmithing: This session will introduce you to blacksmithing, one of the methods used to make metallic objects. This is a hands-on workshop, as you will be using hammer and anvil to create a unique metallic object. What you make is up to you, but some good suggestions include spoons, leaves, snakes, etc. Cost is $5 and tickets are available at tickets.mtu.edu.

8:00 – 9:30 pm Movie on the Football Field “Escanaba in da Moonlight” Sherman Field In this Uniquely UP film, Jeff Daniels stars as a man with the curse of never having “bagged a buck”.

8:30 – 10:00 pm “O” Hip Hop Show Fisher (15), 135

From Lansing, MI, BLAT! Pack artists P.H.I.L.T.H.Y., Jahshua Smith, and Red Pill bring independent hip-hop to Michigan Tech. These artists, along with an opening act featuring some of Tech’s very own talent, will be a show you do not want to miss! This performance may (and probably will) contain adult language.
