1986-1993 Fairlights ...are absolutely vintage CG (computer graphics) performed way back in the eighties on a discreet system called Fairlight CVI (“computer video instrument”) by the artist. A rather early and rough but charming piece of hardware development by the (Australian) makers of the famous fairlight CMI (musical instrument) - the *very first* audio sampling unit around, the CVI paintbox was implied into live music stage shows for live video editing (8bit altogether: 256 colors out of 4096) and projection towards the stage. All which appeared AMAZING in the mentioned eighties! Sadly however, the concept of the CVI was abandoned, but i managed to get hold of one of these ultimately rare units in 1996 - that’s when my digital path appeared in front of me - well, not really clear, but VERY emotional !! What you can see here in this portfolio are some of my best early works (shot with a SLR camera directly off the screen (> note: *no memory on board* B- ) then turned into slides, which later were digitized to Kodak photo CD’s. Finally i layouted them into this photo book for print work output and online viewing. A selection of these works have been presented in Art exhibitions. michael douglas hawk - early Spring 2009
