Understanding power demands of your battery

Walk out into your warehouse and take a look at the first forklift you see. See if you can answer a quick question: How many hours a day is that forklift in use? Whatever you answer, the simple truth is that it’s probably wrong. “If you say eight hours, because that’s the length of a shift, that’s not really completely accurate,” says Frank Russo, vice president of sales, marketing and dealer development for HC Forklift America. “Most likely it has some downtime – even if it’s just two breaks and lunch for the operator.” Now factor in how that forklift is used, what type of battery it has, the related maintenance costs, electrical costs (if it’s a rechargeable battery), and a host of other factors, and it’s easy to see a universal fact: Most companies really have no idea what the cost is to actually power their forklifts. And that’s not your fault. “What you really need to figure this out is a power study,” says Harold Vanasse, Senior Director of Marketing, Motive Power Global at EnerSys. “You can sit and guess, but it’s much more accurate to just do a power study, which is a highly analytical way of understanding what the power demands are on your batteries.” Justin Forbes, director of business development for Flux Power agrees. “Square one is really a ROI assessment from your battery company,” he says. “They’ll all pursue the same basic information: your fleet itself, the forklift utilization rate, the number of shifts, and a lot of other costs that you wouldn’t think to include, like the number of cycles left in the life of the battery, for example.” 6

More importantly, having an annual (or more frequent) hard look at your batteries can avoid a number of problems, as well as ensuring that you are optimizing your battery usage. It might be nice to invest in the latest and greatest, but that may not be exactly what’s best for your operation. Russo gives an analogy from earlier in his career to illustrate this point. “Really, it’s about keeping in mind that guys like us need to sell people batteries based on what they need,” he says. “I had a client tell me one time, ‘I don’t need a Mercedes-Benz [battery] for this application, all I really need is a Volkswagen.’ And he was right. There are scenarios out there where the best battery for the job is your basic, traditional lead-acid battery.” If your particular operation went gangbusters during the pandemic – and many material handling operations did, especially those that serve the consumer market – you might be maxing out your power capacity without even knowing it. If you’ve added extra ships, are moving more volume, or expanded in any way, that’s having a real effect on your batteries. “We have some clients, especially those in food and consumer goods, double their operations last year,” says Forbes. “The pandemic heightened consumer expectations for delivery times. And in response, people started running multiple shifts and having their operations going 24/7. If that’s your operation, now’s a great opportunity to get a power study done so you can ensure you have the right capacity you need.” “You might now find yourself in a situation where your battery isn’t able to keep up on some of your equipment,” says Vanesse. “That’s going to lead to operators trying to push the equipment, which can cause maintenance issues to start.” In this case, Vanesse says that being proactive is key. “A power study isn’t that difficult to do,” he says. “An annual study should be your baseline, but if you think there are issues, updating your batteries really is not that difficult to do.” Bigger isn’t always better While it might seem logical that the most advance battery technology will provide the biggest ROI, that’s not always the case either. “You could end up investing in a battery that offers a higher capacity than you actually need,” says Forbes. “In

Cover Story continued that case, you’re wasting money on capacity that you’ll never use.” That’s often the situation with the decision between lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries. “If you have a smaller operation and a smaller fleet, with a lower utilization rate, lead-acid might actually be more economical,” he says. But that’s not to say that you shouldn’t count out lithium-ion batteries. While they’re no longer the new kid on the block, there’s still room to grow, and their price has come down. “Right now, lithium-ion only has about a five-percent market share,” says Forbes. “But we’re really starting to see the impact they can have on an operation. We have more than 9,000 batteries now that have been in the field more than five years. It’s a proven technology and it now has a track record.” The key is to look at the battery plus all operational costs. Lithium-ion batteries are maintenance free, but there is the added electrical costs of charging them. Leadacid batteries require maintenance, washing and have a more limited life.

Remanufactured Transmissions, Engines, Torque Converters, Steer Axles, Overhaul Kits and Aftermarket Parts for: • Material Handling • Construction • Agricultural Equipment

“You only have so many cycles on a lead-acid battery,” says Russo. “You can’t take advantage of the opportunity charging a lithium-ion battery offers. You don’t want that to happen when the operator takes a break or go to lunch, because it’s not going to be a full charge and you’ll waste a cycle.” “We’re also seeing that companies don’t want to do battery maintenance anymore, they don’t want to do the battery washing,” says Vanesse. “And it’s true, lithium-ion are generally less expensive to maintain.” Russo says that HC Forklift America introduced a Lithium-ion Lite battery in mid-2020, which provided the technology at a price point closer to traditional leadacid batteries. “It offers all the benefits of a lithium-ion battery at a lead-acid cost,” he says. “And we offer a 10 year/20,000 hour warranty. So you can use it on a forklift, and when the lease is up, take the battery off and put it on the new forklift. They have an incredibly long life.” Information brings a big advantage One of the biggest advantages of using lithium-ion batteries actually has little to do with their capacity, efficiency or potential cost savings. Instead, it’s their ability to communicate data. Like many facets of a material handling system, advanced battery technology includes data sharing. “The onboard battery manager actually collects a lot of useful information, from the battery health to the truck’s actual operation,” says Forbes. “Let’s say you have two forklifts. When you look at the data, you can see that forklift A works 30% harder than forklift B, and without that data, it’s not something you would have ever normally noticed.” In that scenario, the logical solution is to swap out Forklift A with Forklift B on a regular schedule, which not only extends the life of both forklifts, but brings the battery usage down for Forklift A and up for Forklift B. “The level of data we have now is new, and it’s something that companies should really be using to their advantage,” he adds. Safety Q&As for Crews Operating Propane Forklifts

Keep crews safe and productive with these important reminders Forklifts are often the workhorse of a facility or loading dock, efficiently moving and loading materials day after day. These machines bring countless benefits to businesses but introduce numerous hazards, too. Fortunately, many of the hazards posed by forklifts can be mitigated. In fact, studies show that roughly 70 percent of all forklift-related accidents could have been avoided with proper training. Ongoing safety meetings

are one simple way to keep crews informed, proactive, and ultimately, safe. For starters, operators should be trained in accordance with OSHA requirements before operating a forklift and employers should re-evaluate operators at least once every three years. Beyond general forklift safety knowledge, it’s important for operators to be aware of fuel-specific practices, depending on the energy source used to power their equipment. Propane has become a leader in the material handling market, with 90 percent of Class 4 and 5 forklifts being powered by propane. Because of this, it’s important for crews across the country to be well-versed in proper propane safety practices. What are best practices for handling propane cylinders? • Wear protective gloves.

Safety First continued • Keep open heat, flames, and ignition sources away from cylinders and refueling equipment at all times. • Handle cylinders carefully, making sure not to drop, throw, or drag them. • Use proper lifting techniques when lifting cylinders. What specific safety measures need to be taken when operating propane-powered equipment? • Inspect cylinders before operation. Check cylinders for rusting, dents, gouges, and leaks. Cylinders that show signs of wear or leaks shouldn’t be used and may need to be replaced, even if within the cylinder’s requalification date. • Secure the pressure relief valve on the cylinder. Operators should check that the pressure relieve valve fitting is roughly 180 degrees from the forklift’s locating pin. • Close the service valves on cylinders when not in use. This helps prevent potential injury around internal combustion engines and unintended fuel loss. • Store propane cylinders in a secure rack or cage. The cylinders can be stored horizontally with the pressure relief valves in the uppermost position, and operators should use proper lifting techniques when removing cylinders from storage and placing onto a forklift.

Where’s the safest place to store a cylinder cage? A propane cylinder storage rack should be located a safe distance from heat or ignition sources and protected from exposure to the elements. It should also be located away from stairwells and high traffic areas. If needed, a business’ local propane supplier can help crews identify the best location. How does the propane industry support end users’ safety? Local propane suppliers do far more than sell and deliver fuel. For instance, suppliers are a great safety resource for businesses operating propane, as they can provide safety training opportunities. Propane suppliers can also inspect cylinders each time they’re exchanged, remove damaged cylinders from service, and repair or replace leaky valves and O-rings on cylinders as needed. Additionally, depending on which refueling option businesses choose, propane suppliers can teach forklift operators how to refill cylinders themselves (on-site refueling) or can refill cylinders for them (cylinder exchange program). Matt McDonald is the director of off-road business development for the Propane Education & Research Council. He can be reached at matt. mcdonald@propane.com.

Warehouse Solutions

How Does Video Surveillance Improve Warehouse Security?

Modern warehouses face a wide range of threats — including conventional, physical break-ins and, as digital systems become more sophisticated, cyberattacks. Despite the variety of security threats, simple techniques can go a long way if applied in the right way. Video cameras are often the foundation of a warehouse’s security strategy. Smart security cameras come with features that can help a surveillance network go even further in keeping a warehouse safe. This is why video surveillance is essential for modern warehouse security systems, no matter a facility’s configuration or its unique security needs. Key Benefits of Video Surveillance in Warehouses There are three main benefits to conventional video surveillance technology — reduced risk of threat, improved building security and remote monitoring. Internal and external building cameras help reduce the risk that warehouse inventory is stolen. These cameras, if visible, will also help to deter theft and unauthorized entry. If someone knows they’re being recorded, they’re typically less likely to attempt a break-in or steal goods from a warehouse. If a break-in does occur, the video recordings from these cameras will provide valuable information to pass on to your internal security team as well as local authorities. Both external and internal cameras also allow warehouse supervisors and owners to check in without being there. Many modern surveillance systems enable managers and supervisors to stream video footage, giving them a remote look at the floor and surrounding area. 14

July 2021

Material Handling Network

www.MHNetwork.com

This remote monitoring can help managers track employee productivity and potentially catch workflow issues that may reduce warehouse efficiency or put workers at risk. For example, a manager may notice that a certain narrow aisle creates a bottleneck that slows down daily work. Another manager may spot safety violations or a lack of necessary PPE. Smart Surveillance and the Internet of Things New and emerging security technology can make a warehouse’s surveillance system even more effective. IP and IoT surveillance cameras are connected to the internet, meaning they can constantly stream security footage over the internet to a centralized warehouse system. Modern cameras can be both wired and wireless, and power over ethernet technology makes it possible to control a camera and provide an internet connection with the same cable. Some of the most advanced smart security cameras can detect known faces, distinguish between people and other sources of motion, and provide two-way audio. This allows them to act as a kind of digital doorbell. Depending on the camera and smart security system used, managers may also be able to receive alerts about unusual activity, as well as reports on what kind of footage the warehouse’s surveillance system has recently captured. These cameras can also simultaneously play video and record it directly to the cloud rather than on-site storage. Because cloud storage can be upgraded as needed, you’re less likely to run out of space for new footage or be forced to delete previously recorded information to free up space. Smart security cameras can also interface with various security technology — including door sensors and alarms. In some cases, it may also be possible to integrate a network of smart security cameras with warehouse monitoring technology, allowing managers to use them for both surveillance and process optimization. Best Practices for Warehouse Cameras Surveillance cameras work best in open areas, like above the warehouse floor, where they can cover a large amount

Warehouse Solutions continued of ground without being obstructed. Poor lighting can be a safety risk and make security cameras less effective. If you find that one of your cameras is pointed at a dimly lit area of the warehouse, extra lighting may improve your surveillance strategy and help provide you with the best-quality footage possible. It’s also best to cover important entrances and exits with security cameras, including shipping and receiving areas. Surveillance will help prevent unauthorized access and allow managers to track who is entering and exiting the warehouse. Fixed cameras overlooking areas where valuable goods or information is stored can provide an extra layer of security. Once a warehouse manager has covered the main areas of a facility — major entry points and the floor — they often expand the surveillance network to the perimeter of the property. This will provide some advanced notice on potential unauthorized access, as well as additional information in the event of a break-in or theft. Using Surveillance Cameras to Bolster Warehouse Security Security cameras are an essential tool in any warehouse security plan. With the right combination of video cameras and security technology, managers can more effectively defend their operations against unauthorized entry, vandalism and theft. Footage from surveillance cameras can also help warehouse managers in process optimization or in identifying unsafe working habits. With an internetconnected camera, managers can monitor conditions at their facilities no matter where they are. Emily Newton is the Editor-in-Chief of Revolutionized Magazine. Power Tool Safety: Small Variables Can Cause High Risk

Power Tool Institute strongly discourages use of thirdparty batteries We tend to think of power tools as virtually indestructible extensions of ourselves. After all, the word power is right there in the name. While it’s true that a properly cared-for power tool should provide years of trouble-free service, the key phrase is “properly cared for.” Because, in truth, the internals of power tools contain delicately balanced systems that can quickly turn dangerous if caution is not given. The Power Tool Institute, the leading industry organization, warns that even the smallest variable, such as introduction of a thirdparty battery, can substantially increase the risk of tool failure, fire damage, and even personal injury. At the heart of the power tool system is the relationship between the tool, its battery, and the battery charger. Each manufacturer has its own unique control circuitry that allows the system to communicate properly. This is what controls critical functions, such as cell balance, energy levels, flow of energy in/out, and temperatures. It is most likely that a third-party battery will not be compatible with the energy demands of the system.

Introducing a third-party, knock-off, or counterfeit battery can choke off system communication. Without the system’s ability to communicate during use, tool operators run the risk of lower performance and a shorter life from the tool. The third-party battery can also overheat, reducing its life or even causing complete failure. In the worst-case scenario, a knock-off battery can cause the tool’s motor to burn up if it starves or pushes too much current through it. These batteries can catch fire on the charger (and have) when cell temperatures aren’t being properly monitored and managed. The original manufacturers’ batteries use cells with proven designs, strict quality control, and longer-lasting capacity. For more information from the Power Tool Institute on safe usage of power tool batteries, visit https://www. powertoolinstitute.com/pti-pages/battery-safety.asp. About PTI With the vision to unify and educate others about power tools, since its founding in 1968, the Power Tool Institute (PTI) has established itself as the leading organization for building global understanding of power tools and for maintaining high standards of safety in the industry. Its members, a list of whom can be found here, represent market-leading brands in the areas of portable and stationary power tools. Business Management

Handle Hiring Easier Through Prioritization takes the same amount of effort or has the same number of specialists in the market to warrant spreading your time evenly to find them. So, what kind of jobs need to be prioritized? This is where you, as an expert on your business, step into the recruiting consultant role regardless what area of HR or management you are in and start with the question, how valuable is this role compared to others? Here are four ways to assess job value and hiring prioritization. Sometimes hiring is crazy busy with a multitude of job vacancies and a frantic need to fill positions immediately. Sometimes, it’s a much slower paced and you can work with the team as is. Regardless of what is driving the volume of hiring – the end of a quarter, event seasons, product orders, etc. – your company needs to come up with a plan of attack to bring talent into the organization and maintain a reasonable speed to hire against the expectations that have been set with your teams. Some years create unexpected highs and lows in recruiting, and the challenge when hiring picks up quickly is that it is hard to turn the engines back on to full speed if you split your attention evenly across every job. When factors that are external to your company change, it often means your industry or the locations you operate in change at the same time. If you all slow down and then re-start hiring at the same time, there will be more choice for candidates, making your mission to attract the best talent to build your company tougher. Layer that on with all that you put into the candidate experience, making sure every candidate is kept up to date, receives clear communication, and you are training all of your hiring managers to play their role in securing talent, it quickly feels like there are not enough hours in the day! If you are hiring for multiple positions and they are all taking up equal amounts of your time, you are missing out on the most important element of strategic recruiting: Not every job is equally important! You must evaluate each job and spend your time accordingly. Wow, that felt good to say, because it’s true and not everyone is willing to admit it. Yes, every candidate is important and should be treated with the same talent acquisition process you have developed to leave a positive feeling about your employer brand. No, not every job 20

July 2021

Material Handling Network

www.MHNetwork.com

1. The job delivers on customer requirements and is usually customer-facing. This is important because it effects your bottom line (note this chorus starting!). Your busines would be in trouble if you were to leave this role open for too long. 2. The job drives direct revenue or pipeline for the company. This is important because it effects your bottom line. Driving revenue is not the same as saving cost. This role directly brings in revenue and helps drive demand for more revenue generating activities. 3. The job is innovative or directly influence your products or services. This is important because it effects your bottom line. If the roles that make or deliver your products or services are vacant, this is a direct hit to your company’s potential to earn revenue. 4. The job’s difficulty in finding in the market. Some roles are much harder than others to find talent for. Maybe the skills are very new, or they are very specific for your industry. It might be that the locations you want to hire in don’t have many local people who do that type of work or would be willing to leave their current role to consider joining your company. Do this research up front to know where to start. Now that you’ve had a chance to think through these four top drivers, your hiring prioritization list is headed in the right direction. But wait, there is more! Many companies focus on how to lower operating costs, or roles that help you eventually lower operating costs and those are important too. But not as important as feeding growth, so more time should be spent on the roles that effect your bottom line. Every company will have different titles and levels working on these tasks, so customizing your plan is important. The activity of looking at all your open jobs and deciding where to spend

Prioritizing jobs sounds simple and it can be if you and your team who are involved in hiring new talent are taking this step. For those hard-to-find roles, make sure your team is prepared for the search. Take the time to train hiring managers, investigate HR process improvement, and invest in training for recruiters and those who touch your candidate experience in any way. Having an optimized recruiting function that knows which roles to focus on first, how to engage candidates for a consistent experience, and sets realistic expectations on the effort each role might take to bring into your organization will set you and your team up for success, no matter the hiring volume. Feature Story

Why Material Handling Is the Most Overlooked Automation Opportunity in Manufacturing

The push toward factory of the future has reached a fevered pitch, especially as manufacturers grapple with staffing shortages. Even before the pandemic hit, the global factory automation market was expected to nearly double to $368,372.4 million by 2025 up from $190,882.2 million in 2017, and we can expect that trend to continue. But in the rush to automate, McKinsey has wisely pointed out that, “It can be all too easy to get carried away with automation for its own sake, but the result of this approach is almost always projects that cost too much, take too long to implement, and fail to deliver against their business objectives.” Instead of trying to “boil the ocean,” companies instead need to zero in on specific processes where automation can deliver the fastest and biggest ROI. And in many cases, material handling should be the Number One priority. Status Quo Can Mean Status Stuck Far too often, we see companies make the mistake of assuming that the way they’ve always done things is the only way to do it. They accept the fact that having 20 people moving material is the only option and instead turn their attention to installing sensors on equipment that’s already running perfectly at peak capacity. This can be a huge mistake and missed opportunity. In order to achieve results from automation, companies must first identify what drives their performance—what

factors and variables move the needle on their KPIs. This not only allows you to better identify which areas could benefit the most from automation, but also track progress and evaluate whether the process has improved. If your equipment is already running at peak capacity, there’s not much to improve. Instead, you should look at any events that cause an interruption or bring the machine to a halt. Loading and unloading of equipment is one of the biggest culprits, where the most time is lost and the most staff cost is incurred. For example, an automotive injection molding company can double its productivity by installing a robotic arm or using a conveyor belt to automatically move fixed pieces rather than have human handlers move each piece to a cart and transport it to packaging or the next phase of production. Or, in a machining operation, it would be more cost effective to install a small overhead crane than to have two workers load and unload heavy material from the lathe. This would free up valuable talent for more value-added tasks and again, double the productivity. Why Material Handling Matters Automating your material handling process can create a fast and significant ROI. Of course, the most notable benefit is improved efficiency and lower cost. In many cases, automation solutions can be installed or implemented at a much lower cost compared to personnel expenses over the long haul and even in the short term. It can also reduce downtime and accelerate production. Beyond the immediate benefits, material handling automation can also provide new insights that can help you spot additional opportunities. Once you’re able to gather material handling process data, you can analyze this in conjunction with data gathered in the adjacent steps of the workflow and potentially find new ways to improve. Finally, it can also boost employee morale. While there’s often a lot of fear around eliminating jobs, in many cases

Feature Story continued these material handling roles are tedious, mundane tasks that are boring, dreadful and sometimes dangerous. By automating the process, those employees can be reassigned to more engaging, meaningful work, which allows you to maximize the value of their talents and reduce the risk of accidents. Seeing the Big Picture In order to achieve results from automation, companies have to be willing to look at all processes across the factory floor with an open mind and a change-ready attitude. Of course, when you’re steeped in tradition, it can be hard to spot opportunities, which is why having an automation partner is so important. By examining your material handling process through fresh eyes, an automation partner can help you identify areas of opportunity that you may have overlooked and create a customized implementation program that can dramatically improve efficiency and productivity. Industry News KAUP and B&B Attachments Celebrate 40 years in Partnership

KION North America launches new portal for distributors and dealers

The partnership between KAUP and B&B goes beyond the simple distribution of existing KAUP attachments. The two companies also work together to develop innovative new material handling solutions. Mike Barton, Managing Director at B&B Attachments, recalls one of these projects: “The keg clamp is the result of a collaboration between KAUP and B&B. This project began back in 1982. Our goal was to challenge the market for material handling in UK breweries. The keg clamp enables kegs to be handled without the use of pallets. To date (with the support of KAUP) B&B now has approximately 75% market share of the UK keg clamp market, making the UK the market leader for pallet-less handling in the brewing industry.”

The North American subsidiary of the KION Group, KION North America, has completely revamped its online portal for its dealer network. Against the backdrop of rapidly growing e-commerce, the creation of the new portal was equally important with the increased demands on warehouse management and material flow solutions. Central to this is KION North America’s online portal for its dealer network, based on the Intershop Commerce Platform. Dealers and intermediaries can place and refine their orders here according to their authority levels and contracts, check current stock availability, and track delivery status. The sophisticated ordering functionality also allows them to quickly reorder and easily upload order forms. Users can collaborate on uploaded order templates and complete the information or add products. The system also offers users the ability to distinguish between “stock orders” and “emergency orders” during the purchasing process. Emergency orders are then placed with prioritized shipping. The tight real time integration of the Intershop commerce solution with KION North America’s SAP ERP and CRM system enables them to support their business partners in real-time at all stages of the buying journey.

Hyster-Yale Group Confirms Availability of EPA-certified Internal Combustion Engines, Advanced Electric Power for Lift Trucks “Just as the supply chain evolves, so too do lift truck power sources. Our role is to help customers navigate this evolving marketplace and work to preserve business continuity – and that starts with a reliable supply of ICE-powered equipment,” says David Furman, President – Strategy, Marketing and Business Development, Hyster-Yale Group. “But that’s only part of the story. As government regulation and market shifts favor greater electrification, we’re pushing the boundaries of lift truck power with lithium-ion battery and hydrogen fuel cell options to support businesses as an innovative long-term partner.” The company’s latest electric lift truck products combine performance comparable to traditional ICE power with the reduced emissions and cost benefits of lithium-ion battery power that is not just a retrofit, but integrated from the factory. For example, the Yale® ERC050-060VGL is designed from the ground up around the form factor of a lithium-ion battery pack, not only bringing the green benefits of electric power to the 5,000-6,000 pound capacity range, but enabling easier ingress and egress, additional space in the operator compartment and more to indoor and outdoor warehousing applications. 26

Let pedestrians and operators know if someone is just around the corner with our New LOOK-OUT ™

• Avoid Forklift Accidents • Alert Workers & Pedestrians • Warehouse, Yard and Office Applications • Reduce Liabilities • Increase Up Time

Alert Employees of Dangerous Collisions BEFORE They Occur! LOOK-OUT™

Currently, we have 42 standard package offerings, ranging from one-way to fourway intersections. These units can be mounted to racks, walls, or ceiling hung for the large units. Additionally, our new DUAL USE series consists of units that can be used INDOORS and OUTDOORS. Our units are Essential for Traffic Control.

Our LOOK OUT™ product line offers a versatile line of safety sensors that will alert workers and pedestrians if a forklift or other moving object is approaching just around the corner. Our sensors are great for any traffic area and are quickly becoming a standard for warehouse traffic control. Avoid accidents and potential liabilities to your facility. We have LOOK OUT™ products for just about every safety application for your warehouse, yard, or office needs. Additionally, if you need a custom solution, we will work with you to assure that your safety needs are met to complete satisfaction.

Protect your employees, visitors, and guests from dangerous collisions with forklifts or heavy equipment while walking through your facility. Safety and caution should be an automatic response to your implemented systems. We offer both interior and exterior sensors on our systems that can be mounted anywhere. They help control traffic concerns and communicate that someone is approaching from a spot that may not be otherwise visible.

When the sensors detect motion in blind spots around a corner or a door way, it begins to flash a warning to the pedestrian or operator who is approaching that intersection. Additionally, sensors will signal the lights on either side of the unit to flash as to indicate someone is approaching the same intersection. Thus, everyone approaching that intersection is informed of movement and will know to proceed with caution. The sensors may be adjusted to specific angles and lengths that will meet the needs of your facility. Signals are sent via bright flashing red LED lights on each visible side of the units.

LOOK OUT 1 R

AVOID DEADLY AND COSTLY FORKLIFT COLLISIONS As workers juggle more projects and deadlines with shorter time constraints, safety can become jeopardized. As this happens, so do accidents. 40% of all forklift fatalities are caused by an individual being struck or run over by a forklift. Many of these accidents and fatalities can be avoided by warning pedestrians and forklift operators of approaching danger. Our LOOK OUT™ sensor alert warning system allows for quick and easy recognition of possible hazardous situations. Why take chances of liabilities when you can avoid accidents and protect your most valuable assets: your employees!

Sensor detects up to 35 feet away,24 hours a day

Shown: Hall Door Monitor Basic

Blind spots, corners, and dangerous intersections can cause series accidents. Wouldn’t it be great if someone was always there to alert you of oncoming traffic? Despite Safety Supervisors efforts, they cannot always be there to prevent collisions. Thankfully, our units are there to scan traffic areas and alert 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. • The Look Out units cover 2, 3, and 4-way intersections. • The Hall Door and Overhead Door units cover hallways and overhead doors. • The Basics detect on one side and alert on the other. • The Dual Use series of units can be used for interior/exterior applications.
