TOM MEYER IN SPRING RESIDENCE AT MAISON MUMM

For the entire spring season, Tom Meyer will take charge of the kitchen at La Table des Chefs in Reims, starting in March. This powerful talent promises a cuisine of unique gastronomic explorations.

The fourth chef invited to Maison Mumm’s culinary residency, Tom Meyer fully shares its spirit, that of a place devoted entirely to the discreet charm of a singular and creative experience. Talented beyond his years, Tom Meyer is one of the most convincing incarnations of the programme.

AN IRRESISTIBLE RISE

With an impressive trajectory blending precociousness and maturity, Meyer is considered one of the future icons of French cuisine. Hailing from the Jura region and son of a restauranteur, he got an early start in the kitchen sharpening his virtuosic skills at the revered stoves of Anne-Sophie Pic, the Maison Lameloise, Joël Robuchon, the Chèvre d’Or in Èze and the Hotel de Ville in Crissier. He has an intuitive understanding of the craft as well as an authentic sensitivity to cooking and a temperament that makes a great chef.

“I did a lot of sports and competitions, which continues to push me in my career towards the challenge, the taste of going further”, Meyer says. At only 30 years old, he is already collecting professional recognition like being named a Meilleur Ouvrier de France and earning his first Michelin star in the same year, just three short years after opening Granite, his restaurant in the heart of the Marais, an icon of the new gastronomic scene of Paris.

A FABULOUS CULINARY IMAGINATION

“BY INVESTING IN LA TABLE DES CHEFS, I FIND MYSELF IN A WONDERFUL ELEMENT, THAT OF MAISON MUMM AND MY OWN”, MEYER SAYS.

“I’M AT THE HEART OF A PLACE THAT IS SPECIAL, SENSITIVE, COMING ALIVE AROUND ONE OF THOSE CARTE BLANCHE MENUS THAT ALLOWS ME TO COOK UP SURPRISE. A UNIQUE TABLE WHERE THE CHEF AND THE PUBLIC MEET TOGETHER TO SHARE A SPECIAL MOMENT. IN MY CUISINE, THE RECIPE TELLS A STORY THAT THE PLATE DIRECTS”.

He is recognised today for his sensitivity to products and their seasonality, to the science of cooking and a sixth sense when it comes to refining sauces and combinations.

In Reims, in the dining rooms and the garden of La Table des Chefs, Meyer’s carte blanche menu invites us into a gourmet fantasy, which instantly evokes sensitivity and sensation. Lobster comes alive in an unexpected river of sorrel with a bud of currant and marigold, while the first green asparagus is unveiled beneath a sabayon with hazelnut and lavender.

The odyssey continues with a Roscoff crab in its jus, perfumed with woody vanilla and Mexican tarragon and paired with arctic char, fresh from the current of its lake, adorned with an XO condiment, pine and juniper berry-infused beurre blanc. Then, a farm hen in white wine frolics through a field of morel and meadowsweet. As a prologue to this epic, raw Tulakalum chocolate and cacao nibs are elevated with citrus and green pepper.

AN EXTENSION OF THE WORLD OF CHAMPAGNE

Raimonds Tomson, World’s Best Sommelier 2023 and friend of Maison Mumm since 2017, accompanies Meyer’s menu with treasures from the G.H. Mumm Oenotheque and new cuvees.

To accompany the lobster of the first course, Tomson has selected Fantastique 2022 of Sainte Marguerite en Provence, a rosé. The power of different terroirs, notably those of the Pinot Noir which is so dear to the Maison, allows us to project ourselves towards new

horizons two dishes later with the temperament of Mumm RSRV Blanc de Blancs 2015, adding umamiesque bubbles to the crab. And there’s the Sandeman sherry port, which spices up the cacaos in the dessert.

The wine cellar is full of surprises and expands with each new residence. The power of different terroirs, notably those of the Pinot Noir which is so dear to the Maison, allows us to project ourselves towards new horizons.

FROM ONE ADVENTURE TO ANOTHER

Today, Tom Meyer is unpacking his knives at Maison Mumm as one would their luggage. And tomorrow?

Imagined as a journey to the edge of desire, a gourmet adventure in a single destination, a table where near and far come together, La Table des Chefs de Maison Mumm is already whispering about what comes next: a summer in the

company of Sato Hideaki, an astonishing and explosive triplestarred chef from Hong Kong; an autumn and winter with Victor Mercier, of the new guard of Paris, sporting his first star and full of promise of a sparkling stay in Reims.

BRUGAL LAUNCHES NEW LUXURY RUM IN THE UK, MAESTRO RESERVA

AN EXCEPTIONAL SIPPING RUM CRAFTED USING A WORLD-FIRST TECHNIQUE

This new moment-perfect rum is an ode to Brugal’s unwavering mastery and pursuit of excellence.

Dominican ultra-premium rum brand, Brugal, unveils its newest masterpiece in the UK: a luxury sipping rum, Maestro Reserva. Born from the passion of five generations of Maestros Roneros and 135 years of rum mastery, this new permanent edition to the rum brand’s portfolio utilises an innovative cask toasting technique, “Dark Aromatic Toasting”, a worldfirst process completely unique to and developed by Brugal. The result is a one-of-a-kind rum, carefully crafted for sipping.

Driven by passion, each generation of the Brugal family Maestro Roneros enriches the art of rum making, leaving behind a legacy. Brugal family member and fifthgeneration Maestra Ronera, Jassil Villanueva Quintana, upholds this as she introduces her legacy, Maestro Reserva.

Maestro Reserva is created from a time-perfect moment between cask and flame, a process identified as “Dark Aromatic Toasting”. The technique sees the rum aged in premium American oak sherry casks, it is then emptied and carefully placed aside. The casks are then immediately toasted, before being

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024
18 FOOD & DRINK THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

re-filled with the rum, which absorbs the delicate caramel pearls and is carefully aged under the Dominican sun. The result is a smooth and rich liquid defined by sweet vanilla creaminess, velvety caramel and awakened by a hint of smoke. Brugal’s Dark Aromatic Toasting process naturally sweetens the liquid to create a rum that is free of external sugars and additives.

Once complete, Maestro Reserva, beautifully presented in a bespoke glass decanter, is a luxury sipping rum guaranteed to elevate any occasion. With natural caramel hues reflecting throughout, the liquid is best enjoyed neat or over ice. On the nose, the rum is oaky and presents red fruits with a hint of smoke balanced by caramel and honey. On the palate, flavours of vanilla and caramel emerge, giving way to subtle notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits with a hint of toasted nuts and orange peel.

Jassil Villanueva Quintana, fifthgeneration Maestra Ronera, said: “My family deeply embraces the elegance and soul of Brugal rum, and I’ve absorbed a wealth of wisdom from the generations of Maestro Roneros who came before me. By leveraging this knowledge and my unwavering passion, all while paying homage to the Brugal family legacy, I’ve crafted a rum that is ‘moment perfect’. My hope is that Maestro Reserva graces all of life’s big celebrations, alongside cherished ones, forging moments that will endure for centuries to come”.

Nine months after opening, Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo’s Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac, has been awarded two stars by the Michelin Guide France.

HÔTEL MÉTROPOLE MONTECARLO’S LES AMBASSADEURS BY CHRISTOPHE CUSSAC AWARDED TWO MICHELIN STARS

The two stars have been awarded to Chef Christope Cussac for the fine-dining gastronomic restaurant, which serves Mediterranean cuisine.

Commenting on the announcement, Chef Cussac, executive chef of Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo says, “I am deeply honoured by this recognition from the Michelin Guide, and I would like to emphasise that the stars are the fruit of the hard work and devotion of my entire team. We have made this journey together, each member bringing their unique contribution, dedication and talent. The two stars shine for each and every one of us, because we know that we can’t achieve great things alone.

This is a collective victory, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to our success”.

CHEF CHRISTOPHE CUSSAC

For the past 20 years, Chef Cussac has expertly supervised the restaurants at Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo. After studying at the Paris Hotel School and training at the ‘Royal Monceau’, Cussac had his first encounter with Joël Robuchon, which marked a defining moment in his career.

Following his experiences at various restaurants across France, including ‘Trosigros’, which obtained two stars in the Michelin Guide, Joël Robuchon called on him in 2004 for the opening of Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo as the Chef des Cuisines. During his tenure Restaurant Joël Robuchon MonteCarlo obtained two Michelin Stars.

Following a period of transition after the death of Joël Robuchon in 2018, the restaurant reopened under Chef’s Cussac vision in July 2023 and has now rejoined the Michelin Guide, as the reimagined Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac has been awarded two Michelin stars.

LES AMBASSADEURS BY

In the 1920s, the hotel opened Les Ambassadeurs, a restaurant that quickly became an emblematic address for French gastronomy. Aristocrats and diplomats alike travelled there from all over the world in search of fine cuisine.

Chef Cussac was inspired by this story and as such, chose to honour it with his restaurant Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac. His menu offers contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, with each dish comprised of only three flavours, to highlight the power of each individual ingredient. Dishes include fresh sardines with a preserved lemon and tangy foam, sea bream tartare, caviar cannelloni, veal chop with asparagus and the Grand Marnier souffle.

The warm interiors were redesigned by French architect and interior designer, Jacques Garcia. The décor, inspired by the new menu, features luminous tones of bronze, ivory, yellow, and gold – creating a fresh and welcoming atmosphere that is at home in the Principality.

Following the Michelin Guide France announcement, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant Yoshi has retained its Michelin Star.

The only Japanese restaurant on the Côte d’Azur to have been awarded a Michelin Star since 2010, Yoshi, meaning ‘goodness’ in Japanese, is overseen by Head Chef Takeo Yamazaki and his team. The restaurant offers healthy and modern Japanese cuisine, with an open kitchen and sushi bar to further elevate the culinary experience.

The interiors, designed by French interior designer Didier Gomez, combine the preciousness of ebony wood, stone, and silk, with the light of green, white, and ivory. The restaurant opens onto a Japaneseinspired garden designed by landscape architect Jacques Messin. The light and serene atmosphere works in harmony with Chef Yamazaki’s fresh and innovative cuisine.

REVIEW > THE BUGIS SINGAPORE RESTAURANT

The Bailey’s Hotel stands as one of London’s oldest privately constructed hotels, boasting a formal Victorian facade that overlooks the sophisticated Gloucester Road station in the prestigious borough of Kensington.

The Bugis, draws inspiration from Singapore’s vibrant district of the same name. Recently renovated and re-launched, The Bugis maintains its Asian theme, offering a delectable array of authentic Singaporean, Malaysian, and Chinese cuisine.

The staff were extremely knowledgeable and amiable to guide you through your menu selections. From a variety of delectable starters to sumptuous sharing platters, Bugis caters to all tastes and preferences.

We highly recommend the Singapore favorite section of the menu, specifically the Singaporean Laksa, widely regarded as the best in town, and the Chairman’s Hokkien Mee was simply divine with some of the best cooked squid i have ever eaten.

The dishes were served promptly, but I did not mind as the quality of the food remained exceptional. One could easily spend a couple of hours in the restaurant, soaking in the vibrant Singaporean atmosphere without question.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

The ambiance of the restaurant was relaxed and enjoyable. The high ceilings and strategically placed speakers created an atmosphere that allowed for easy conversation without the need to raise one’s voice.

Unlike many Asian restaurants that can feel hot, busy, and fast-paced, this establishment exudes a sense of relaxation, sophistication, and maturity. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between being formal and dull, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for patrons to enjoy their dining experience.

andBEYOND SUYIAN LODGE SUYIAN CONSERVANCY, LAIKIPIA, KENYA

andBeyond expands lodge and impact footprint in Kenya’s Laikipia region with exclusive tourism concession in partnership with global conservation charity Space for Giants.

Luxury experiential and conservation company andBeyond has extended its lodge circuit in Kenya with the announcement of an Exclusive Tourism Concession over the 44 000 acre (approximately 18 000 hectares) Suyian Conservancy in Kenya in partnership with global conservation charity Space for Giants. The multi-decade longterm lease and partnership gives andBeyond exclusive access to over 44 000 acres of prime wilderness land on Suyian Conservancy in north-western Laikipia. As the sole luxury lodge and tented camp operator on the conservancy, the lease enables andBeyond to

use its extensive lodge operating experience to build and develop, over time, the finest lodge, tented camp, sky beds and mobile camping experience in Kenya on this pristine and private wildlife conservancy.

“Our expansion into Laikipia is the culmination of a long-held desire to increase our impact and lodge

operating footprint in Kenya. Laikipia is a prime wilderness area that is home to a greater population of wildlife than anywhere else in Kenya outside of the Masai Mara. This includes a large number of globally threatened mammals that make it particularly important from a conservation perspective.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

Representing a critical piece of the Kenyan circuit, it not only offers a world-class game experience but also aligns with many of our ambitious impact objectives in terms of securing and protecting endangered wildlife and habitat ecosystems, as well as enabling conservation through empowered communities,” explains Joss Kent, andBeyond CEO and Executive Chairman.

“In Suyian Conservancy and Space for Giants we have found the perfect partnership through which to bring our dream to reality. We are totally aligned in our goals to create one of the finest conservancy and lodge operations in Kenya and, indeed, Africa.”

Space for Giants was founded by Dr Max Graham ten years ago, off the back of research into the conflict between people and elephants in Laikipia, home to the second largest

population of elephants in Kenya and one of the largest free-roaming populations on the continent.

A key lesson from this research, the importance of removing the cost of wildlife to local people and replacing it with benefits, has driven a strategy of transforming private ranches into wildlife conservancies owned by not-forprofit trusts, attracting investment into enterprises that can ensure the region is valued, not just because it protects critically important biodiversity, but also because it generates employment and builds the local and national economy.

“Space for Giants has grown immensely in the last ten years and now operates across eleven countries in Africa,” explains Dr

Graham. “If Laikipia is the heart of the organisation, Suyian is its soul. Last year, through the generosity of the former owners of Suyian and a transformational gift by American philanthropist Louis Bacon, we were able to support the transition of ownership of the 44 000 acres to the Suyian Conservancy Trust, a Kenyan not-for-profit. This will ensure Suyian and its wildlife are protected in perpetuity for the benefit of Kenyans and, indeed, the world.”

The partnership between andBeyond and Suyian Conservancy represents an important milestone in the property becoming a leading financially selfsufficient model for Protected Area Management in Africa.

31 LUXURY TRAVEL

“In andBeyond we have a company that shares our values and has the capacity to ensure this magical natural ecosystem is not only protected but thrives,” concludes Dr Graham. “We could not have dreamed of a better partnership as a start to Suyian’s exciting journey.”

Forming part of a vital wildlife movement corridor and home to a huge diversity of wildlife, including a significant number of endangered species, Suyian boasts a variety of compelling landscapes that include grassland, savanna, rocky outcrops or kopjes, dense vechellia woodland

and more than 16 km (10 miles) of river frontage alongside the Ewaso Narok River. A thriving wildlife population includes rarities such as the melanistic, or black, leopard and African wild dog, as well as northern Kenyan species like Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, desert warthog and more. Elephant and buffalo are present in healthy numbers, as are lion, leopard and cheetah, in addition to both striped and spotted hyena. General game includes dik dik, giraffe, Laikipia hartebeest, Beisa oryx and lesser kudu.

With its remarkable wildlife and varying landscapes, Suyian is the ideal destination not only for an exclusive safari experience but also less commonly found activities such as walking safaris, camel safaris and horse-riding safaris on a neighbouring conservancy. The diversity of flora lends itself to engaging botany walks and the rich cultural history includes evidence of cave paintings and artefacts from as far back as the Stone Age. Guests will also be able to interact with local pastoral tribes such as the Samburu and Pokot, as well as participate in conservation and research activities.

Easily accessed by air or road from Nairobi, Suyian is also a gateway to more remote adventures, such as helicopter safaris and visits to the Northern Frontier region of Kenya, including Samburu, the Matthews Range and the Endoto Range, Lake Turkana and the fabled Suguta Valley. The conservancy not only offers magnificent views of Mount Kenya but can also be used as a base for scenic flights or even fishing trips to this majestic and beautiful mountain.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024
32 LUXURY TRAVEL THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

Transformed from pure cattle ranching to land managed for conservation with a limited number of cattle, Suyian combines rapidly evolving conservation practices with the opportunity for community development. The conservancy utilises a unique model of limited cattle ranching that uses rotational grazing to improve soil health and biodiversity. In combination with wildlife conservation and tourism, this not only contributes towards the economic development of neighbouring communities but also ensures a more diversified income stream.

“As a partner of Suyian Conservancy, our intention is to make an impactful contribution towards the development of conservation and community projects in the fragile Laikipia ecosystem,” says Kent. “Over the past thirty years, we have learned a lot of impact lessons across our 29 lodges and 1 million acres of primary conservation land under management in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is our hope that we can share some of these learnings to support and assist in the various projects at Suyian.”

The andBeyond ethos of Care of the Land, Wildlife and People is directly aligned with the existing aims of Suyian Conservancy, which include land stewardship, wildlife protection and security, as well as community support for schools, health programmes and education. Being contiguous with other nature conservancies such as Loisaba and Sosian provides the opportunity to work on shared conservation projects, as well as the possibility of creating a larger ‘super conservancy’ at some time in the future. Suyian also shares borders with the research conservancy of Mpala, which is run by Princeton University and offers the option for &Beyond guests to learn about and become involved in a multitude of conservation topics.

“Suyian offers the perfect potential for andBeyond to make a contribution to community and conservation efforts in Kenya while creating an exceptional experience for our guests,” concludes Kent. “Its untouched nature and wild spaces, combined with our strict conservation ethics, will make this the ideal exclusive wildlife viewing destination, far from the large tourist numbers that can often be found in other parts of East Africa.”

&Beyond Suyian Lodge is expected to open 01 July 2025. Log on to andBeyond.com or follow andBeyond on social media for further updates.

One for the wellness-lover who has tried it all, guests can indulge in a spot of ‘moon-bathing’ within the privacy of their own overwater villa. Each and every overwater villa features its very own roof deck star bed, made up with luxurious linens to provide the perfect spot to soak in the moonlight. Beneath the moon’s gentle glow, guests can lay back and spot the crystal-clear constellations as they slowly drift away to the sounds of the rolling waves.

Guests can also enjoy the new Mindful Dream retreat journey offering at Meera Spa which includes mindfulness breathing, aromatherapy, sound healing and

a stress-busting massage technique to aid in a restful and rejuvenating night’s sleep. This 110 minute treatment is available in-villa from 19:00 – 22:00 hours.

REVIEW > CANOPY BY HILTON LONDON CITY

In January, we had the pleasure of staying overnight at the stunning Canopy by Hilton in London City, the first Canopy by Hilton to open in the UK.

The hotel’s prime location in the centre of the bustling East End makes it an ideal base for both tourists and business travellers alike. The 340-room hotel is just a short walk from Aldgate station, and less than 20 minutes away from Liverpool Street station by foot, making it incredibly convenient for getting around London by tube and an ideal base for exploring the city.

The hotel is surrounded by a wealth of historical landmarks and cultural attractions, including the iconic Tower of London and the elegant Victorian architecture of Leadenhall Market, which boasts a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants.

Art enthusiasts will also appreciate the nearby galleries, such as the esteemed Whitechapel Gallery, known for its ever-changing contemporary exhibitions.

Upon entering the hotel’s lobby, we were greeted by the St. Clare Coffee and Bar, which boasts a co-working space ambiance. The Canopy brand has taken inspiration from this lively neighbourhood and incorporated it into its unique feature known as Canopy Central. The ground floor lobby is meticulously designed to capture the essence of the neighbourhood and its lively energy, providing guests with an unforgettable experience that truly reflects the spirit of the area.

The bedroom’s interior design combined elements of new construction and refurbishment, with ample natural light and stunning city views. The elegant grey wall fabric, sleek steel accents, and light wood canopy over the bed created a sense of airy comfort that was especially inviting after a day of exploring the city’s landmarks.

At night, the vibrant city lights illuminated the skyline, creating a mesmerizing sight. The view from our room offered various perspectives of London, depending on where you stood, making it fascinating to take in the city’s beauty.

Our accommodation felt like a cozy retreat, providing a sense of home away from home. Surprisingly, the hotel room was more spacious than anticipated.

We also had the pleasure of experiencing the hotel’s rooftop bar, Florattica, which is situated 11 floors high at Canopy London City. The bar is inspired by the rich heritage of East London’s textile industry, with elegant and refined interiors featuring ceilings adorned with floral installations inspired by the silk-woven floral patterns created by local 17th-century French Huguenots. The floral design is passed through their cocktail menu, with floral and fragranced flavours, elevating the London cocktail experience in more ways than one.

The service at the hotel was welcoming and accommodating, with the reception staff ensuring that all your needs were met for a pleasant stay.

PRESERVING PARADISE –BAROS AND MILAIDHOO

In the pristine waters of the Maldives, where turquoise hues meet powdery white sands, lies a duo of luxurious havens committed to preserving the natural beauty that surrounds them. Baros and Milaidhoo Maldives are not just paradises but examples of responsible hospitality.

BAROS

One of Baros’ most notable sustainability initiatives is its Coral Restoration Program. Recognizing the importance of coral reefs to the marine ecosystem, the resort actively cultivates and rehabilitates corals through its pioneering Coral Lines Project. Guests can participate in coral planting sessions led by the resident Marine Biologist, contributing to the regeneration of the house reef and fostering a deeper connection to the underwater world.

In addition to marine conservation efforts, Baros is dedicated to minimizing its environmental footprint. The resort has

implemented numerous ecofriendly practices, including energy-efficient lighting, waste management systems, and water conservation measures. Through innovative initiatives like the ‘EcoDive’ program, guests can embark on guided dives focused on marine conservation and learn about the importance of preserving delicate ecosystems.

MILAIDHOO

At Milaidhoo Maldives, responsible tourism is a way of life. Nestled on a pristine coral reef, the resort blends luxury with environmental stewardship, creating a harmonious balance between indulgence and conservation. Milaidhoo’ s ‘Green Growth’ philosophy encompasses a holistic approach to sustainability, encompassing environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

One of Milaidhoo’ s standout sustainability initiatives is its

dedication to local sourcing and community empowerment. The resort partners with nearby islands to procure fresh produce, supporting local farmers and reducing the carbon footprint associated with food transportation. Guests can savour the flavours of Maldivian cuisine while knowing their meals contribute to the prosperity of neighbouring communities.

Moreover, Milaidhoo is committed to protecting the marine environment through its Reef Restoration Program. Through collaborations with marine conservation organizations, the resort actively rehabilitates coral reefs and monitors marine biodiversity, ensuring the longterm health of the surrounding ecosystem. Guests can participate in coral planting workshops and gain firsthand insight into the challenges facing coral reefs worldwide.

NO BOUNDARIES. NO LIMITS. SANLORENZO IS REIMAGINING THE ON-WATER LIFESTYLE.

For those with an adventurous heart, experience is everything. But to experience the ultimate adventure, you need the right platform to enjoy it from. In the case of waterborne exploits, that platform is your yacht.

Italian yacht brand Sanlorenzo has been reimagining the on-water lifestyle for over six decades, creating yachts where there are literally no boundaries or limits.

Producing a very limited number of made-to-measure yachts each year, the shipyard designs and builds its distinctive yachts and superyachts according to an individual client’s style, desires, and imagination.

“Building a Sanlorenzo takes time and passion,” says Nick Hatfield, Sales Manager at Sanlorenzo Yachts UK and Ireland. “We work closely with each owner to bring

their dream yacht to life - whether they wish to create a floating masterpiece which is a lesson in style and elegance, or they thirst for adventure and exploration in remote and challenging environments and require a vessel that’s fully equipped and equal to the task.

“Regardless of which Sanlorenzo range the yacht is from, each one is completely tailor-made with a level of customisation going far beyond taking a base design and changing it aesthetically. This is why the shipyard can only accommodate up to 65 customers a year, and over the years has only launched around 1000 of its unique and stunning yachts.”

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024
44 YACHTS & YACHTING THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

The only limitation is the hull shape and exterior profile. But interior wise, it’s a blank canvas, with the yacht entirely customised to an owner’s cruising aspirations, tastes and lifestyle.

“Sanlorenzo was the first motoryacht brand to really offer to tailor make a yacht in terms of customisation,” continues Nick. “It looked outside the marine industry for the specialist talent and started by bringing in big named designers who were creating fabulous interiors for apartments.

“The idea was that if someone was renovating their home, the designers could understand their preferences and translate these into the interior of their yacht, and it’s developed to where we are today – offering clients a bespoke yacht, with everything then made to measure for them, to their exact requirements.”

Owning a Sanlorenzo means having the opportunity to choose the materials involved in the build. This choice is not limited to the cladding and coverings but extends to luxury items such as marble or wood flooring. Yacht owners can choose every detail to best express their personality.

“Instead of being tied to the builder’s specifications, our clients have the freedom to choose unique freestanding pieces of furniture from renowned Italian brands like Minotti, Natuzzi, Frag, B+B, Zucchetti, Paola Lenti, and more,” continues Hatfield.

“Modifications can be made to suit personal tastes and complement the interior style. We bring in designers from all over the world, ensuring that fixtures and fittings are all exactly what and where the client wishes - from smaller decorative items to whole areas of the yacht.”

45 YACHTS & YACHTING

And it’s not just about luxury, elegance, and style either. It’s about functionality and utility as well –with layouts personalised to reflect a client’s practical mindset or sense of adventure.

“We develop the layouts closely with the owners to ensure the space works seamlessly with their life onboard, with what they’ll be doing, and where they’ll be going,” adds Nick. “If they don’t like the galley layout, we’ll change it. If they need more room for tenders, jet skis, or even a submarine, we’ll create a solution.

“If their aim is to escape off grid and explore areas less travelled, then the choice of model and everything onboard can be tailored towards that.”

For exploration in more inaccessible regions, Sanlorenzo developed its Explorer range, combining its signature style and luxury with the rugged capabilities required for extended voyages to distant destinations. Designed to navigate a variety of sea conditions with ease, these vessels offer versatility and the freedom to live and play anywhere in the world, with no limits.

“When it comes to travelling in far-flung places, Sanlorenzo understands that complete selfsufficiency and sustainability is key, but without compromising on comfort and style. Sanlorenzo is investing in innovation to minimise the environmental impact of its yachts, with the shipyard’s most

recent collaboration seeing Volvo Penta’s compact IPS40 drives introduced onboard its 35-metre plus models from 2025.

“This efficiency-based system is designed to optimise fuel consumption, reduce perceived noise by up to 50 per cent and cut emissions, paramount when visiting remote anchorages in more fragile habitats.

“Whether it’s built for an owner who seeks solitude, someone who prioritises entertaining, or an individual searching for adventure, each Sanlorenzo yacht is unique and has its own story to tell.

“Our priority is to listen to our customer’s needs. This allows us to design and create a yacht to satisfy their specific entertainment and lifestyle requirements, so they can explore and experience life on the water, their way.”

Oceania Cruises, the world’s leading culinary- and destination-focused cruise line, has debuted an array of new 2025 Mediterranean sailings, ranging from nine to 56 days, to whisk guests to some of the most breathtaking destinations in Europe. The line’s Marina and Nautica will set sail on enticing voyages taking in iconic islands in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Adriatic; well-loved European resort towns and bustling cities, and lesser-known ports of call.

Thanks to Oceania Cruises’ extensive set of small-group, immersive shore excursions, guests can rediscover previously-visited favourites through a new lens, or discover new places for the very first time. IT’S ALL AROUND YOU

Welcome to Tiaré, a luxurious yet traditional Indonesian Phinisi that will take you on a journey of discovery to some of the most stunning diving spots in the world.

The Tiaré began as the dream of 5 cousins, discussed over a summer dinner party.

This dream to create a luxurious dive boat built by the master builders of South Sulawesi came together with careful design, the sturdiest and most beautiful materials sourced from sustainable sources, high-tech components and safety equipment… and of course, time.

Experience diving in the rich waters of the Indonesian archipelago and meet people from the many different cultures on the diverse Indonesian islands that you would never have the opportunity to see while staying in more tourist-heavy areas.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON BOARD TIARÉ

Tiaré offers a spectacular experience for divers as well as non-divers, with bright airy cabins, spacious bathrooms and a large front deck where you can socialize, eat under the stars or just relax in the Indonesian sunshine. There is also a separate diving deck with hot water showers to warm up after a night dive.

All indoor and outdoor living areas, decks, and cabins are made with antique teak salvaged from old Joglos, which not only gives the feel of “real Indonesia”, but has helped to reduce the use of Indonesia’s disappearing rainforests.

LIVING AREA

Designed to be a space where you

feel totally at home with an extra touch of luxury, comfortable couches and tables are the perfect place to socialize and catch up with your fellow divers. If you need to rest, have a nap, read a book or watch a film. A bar stocked with imported wines and a selection of other drinks is a welcome treat after a day of diving and a small cigar store is available for cigar connoisseurs. As well as comfortable couches, the airconditioned indoor lounge also has tables where dinner can be served as an alternative to the main deck depending on weather conditions and your preference. There are also PCs where you can edit photos or videos and also an indoor camera room, which has plenty of room to store your lenses, charges, lights and even your spare cameras.

friendly body wash and shampoo.

Two triple cabins are spacious enough to accommodate two adults and one child or three adults, with under-bed storage to ensure ease of movement around the cabin. The other four cabins, two twin and two double, accommodate two adults each for a maximum capacity of 14 guests.

In addition to the indoor living area, the outdoor bow lounge is a space to enjoy and experience the freedom of being at sea. Watch the crew at work, birds flying overhead or count the millions of stars in the clear night sky from comfortable loungers and couches.

With 14 guests on board Tiaré is comfortable and spacious enough for both a social atmosphere and space to relax and enjoy down time in the luxurious cabins.

BLACK BENTLEY WINGS IDENTIFY S BLACK EDITION – THE DARKER SIDE OF BENTAYGA

Bentley Motors has announced the company’s most visually striking SUV to date, the Bentayga S Black Edition. Identified by the first application of black-tinted wings to a Bentley in 105 years, the S Black Edition combines vivid accent colours, rich black detailing and confidenceinspiring chassis technology, revealing the darker side of the Bentayga.

Customers can choose from seven accent colour specifications: Mandarin, Signal Yellow, Klein Blue, Pillar Box Red, Ice, Hyper Green, and Beluga. Each of the colours bring eye-catching yet cohesive design both inside and outside, contrasting with stealthy black treatments across the car.

On the exterior, the accent takes the form of a laser-like stripe on the Styling Specification body kit below the front bumper and side sills and across the top of the rear spoiler. Brake calipers are painted to match, adding a splash of colour behind 22” black-painted wheels.

As per the standard Bentayga S, all exterior brightware is replaced with gloss black versions - but the S Black Edition is the first model in Bentley’s 105-year history to include the Bentley Wings and lettering in matching gloss black. The final exterior detail is a Black Edition badge located on the rear D pillar.

At the start of the year, a host of new features have increased the desirability of the Bentayga range even further. With the exterior of the car remaining fresh, the scope for increased personalisation has been increased with seven new

satin paints, a new additional exterior colour and a new 21” wheel option in three different finishes. Priority has been given to the driver and passenger experience with new chassis technology, new electrical architecture and additional features, including a reprofiled front radiator grille. The introduction of all wheel steering at the launch of Bentayga Extended Wheelbase increased handling and manoeuvrability whilst also reducing the turning circle by nearly 1m. This system is now included as standard on both the Bentayga Azure and ‘S’ V8 models.

For the new S Black Edition, the Bentley design team has also created a unique interior colour layout, bringing the perfect contrast between rich Beluga leather and splashes of bright accent colour. The impactful accent colours on

the outside of the car are carried through into the handcrafted cabin, where contrast stitching, contrast piping and accent-coloured sections of the leather trim come together to achieve the same searing effect. Each seat is embroidered with a black ‘S’ emblem.

A new carbon fibre weave has been used on the fascia, centre console and waistrails. The weave adds seemingly-3D visual depth to the fascia, providing the perfect backdrop for the Black Edition badge, which is inlaid beneath the lacquered surface to preserve the flush finish.

The new Dark Chrome pack has been included as standard. This means that much of the interior metal detailing – the bullseye air vents, their organ stop controls and the centre vents – has been changed from usual bright chrome to gloss black equivalents.

There are three audio systems to choose from, starting with the Bentley Signature Audio system. The Bang & Olufsen for Bentley system takes sound quality to another level, while also featuring stunning illuminated speaker grilles, while the Naim for Bentley system represents the ultimate in automotive sound quality.

AGILITY FOR THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT, NOT JUST THE RACE TRACK

The dynamic nature of the Bentayga S Black Edition is enhanced in each of the driving modes by the Electronic All-Wheel Steering. This is even more apparent as the steering combines with Bentley Dynamic Ride using up to +/- 4.8° of steering lock on the rear wheels.

At low and medium speeds (below 37 mph), the rear wheels are steered in the opposite direction to the front wheels to aid a rapid change of direction, maximising manoeuvrability in tight spaces and reducing the turning circle by 1m. At higher speeds (above 37 mph), the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front, to improve stability and providing further confidence.

when cornering, ensuring maximum tyre contact to deliver class-leading cabin stability, ride comfort and exceptional handling.

Similar to the Continental GT Speed, where the boundaries of grand touring comfort versus engaging performance have been extended through chassis mode selection, the Bentayga S Black Edition offers increased capability through an enhanced SPORT mode over a standard Bentayga.

In SPORT, improved steering feel, greater turn-in response and further reduced body-roll is possible due to an additional 15 per cent increase in air suspension damping and a unique Electronic Stability Control and Bentley Dynamic Ride tune.

Recalibration of Bentley’s Torque Vectoring by Brake system –whereby the car lightly brakes the inside rear wheel at corner entry to sharpen the front axle turn-in –has made Bentayga S Black Edition even more responsive to drive.

A sports exhaust is included as standard, with free-flowing primary and secondary pipes improving flow and combining with reduced perforations in the muffler to deliver enhanced character and volume, giving a more performanceoriented feel.

The Bentayga’s comprehensive off-road abilities remain, with the optional All-Terrain Specification bringing four dedicated off-road modes (Snow and Wet Grass, Dirt and Gravel, Mud and Trail, and Sand) along with a 500 mm wading depth.

STRIKING PRESENCE WITH RESPONSIBILITY

The Bentayga S Hybrid Black Edition allows customers to indulge their passion for sporting performance and striking design while still enjoying the many advantages of an electrified powertrain.

With a combined output of 462 PS (456 bhp), the 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine and 100 kW electric motor-generator can power the Bentayga S Hybrid Black Edition from zero to 62 miles an hour (100 km/h) in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 158 mph (254 km/h). The sensation of effortless power is, if anything, accentuated by the hybrid powertrain due to the capability of the electric motor to deliver its full torque output from zero revolutions per minute.

Like its V8-powered stablemate - the new Bentayga S Hybrid Black Edition provides a more engaging drive, featuring (whilst in Sport mode) sound enhancements in the engine bay complementing the sound of the V6 TFSi and adding to the more sporting character of the car.

THE FERRARI ROMA SPIDER WINS THE 2024 RED DOT: BEST OF THE BEST AWARD

Ferrari has won the top design accolade from the German Red Dot Awards association: the Ferrari Roma Spider, the Cavallino Rampante’s elegant 2+ mid-engined open-top car with a retractable soft top, has won the Red Dot: Best of the Best in the Product Design category.

Also worthy of note are the two Red Dot Awards won by the SF90 XX Stradale, the special limited-edition model equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising a twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors that can deliver an impressive 1030 cv, and by the KC23, a futuristic One-Off based on the chassis of a racing car, the 488 GT3 Evo 2020, that features a unique dual bodywork

configuration, with a dynamic set-up for track use, and a static configuration to underscore its formal purity.

The Red Dot Award, one of the most important awards in the world of industrial design, is aimed at recognising the innovative capacity

and excellence of the best designers in the industry. The awards, now in their 70th year, will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for 24 June 2024 in Essen, Germany.

Over the past 10 years Ferrari has won 29 Red Dot Awards: no other manufacturer has achieved comparable results since the award was inaugurated in 1955. Since 2015, the jury has awarded no fewer than 10 Red Dot: Best of the Best prizes to as many cars from Maranello: the FXX-K, the 488 GTB, the J50, the Portofino, the Monza SP1, the SF90 Stradale, the Daytona SP3, the Purosangue and the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo. This year it was the turn of the Ferrari Roma Spider to be celebrated for its design.

The awards once again underline the extraordinary work of the Ferrari Styling Centre directed by Flavio Manzoni, intent on creating extraordinary cars rooted in the legendary history of the Maranello marque and yet capable of dictating new formal design languages and being innovative without ever losing sight of the symbiosis between form and function, the cornerstone of Ferrari’s DNA.

FERRARI ROMA SPIDER

The Ferrari Roma Spider, an elegant 2+ mid-engined open-top car from Maranello equipped with an innovative retractable soft top, reintroduces this solution to the Prancing Horse range 54 years after the 365 GTS4, the last mid-frontengined car Ferrari with a soft top. The elegant, five-layer tailored roof, with extensive customisation possibilities, provides acoustic insulation performance equal to that of a retractable hardtop and is retractable in 13.5 seconds up to a speed of 60 km/h. Occupant comfort is ensured by a refined mobile wind deflector system integrated in the rear seatback www.ferrari.com

and patented by the Maranello company. Thanks to its twinturbocharged 620 hp V8, classleading power-to-weight ratio, the introduction of the 8-speed DCT gearbox and the adoption of the Ferrari Roma’s vehicle dynamics systems, the Ferrari Roma Spider represents a unique blend of timeless class, driving thrills, comfort and performance.

ARMANI EXCHANGE SPRING/SUMMER 2024

A beam of light is a graphic element that highlights faces, details, shapes and materials. The new advertising campaign for A|X Armani Exchange, photographed by Thue Nørgaard

with the collaboration of Marc Goehring (stylist) and Ryan Chappell (movement director), transforms Giorgio Armani’s vision, his idea of simplicity as efficiency

in metropolitan dressing, into a tangible and visible feature. There is nothing superfluous in the images and video directed by Samuel Stephenson: just the individuals,

BRUNELLO CUCINELLI LAUNCHES NEW EYEWEAR COLLECTION IN COLLABORATION WITH ESSILORLUXOTTICA IN ROME

Brunello Cucinelli and EssilorLuxottica present new creations resulting from a fruitful and positive collaboration with an emphasis on highend, exclusive creativity.

New products are arriving from the 10-year licensing agreement that the Brunello Cucinelli fashion house and EssilorLuxottica signed in November 2022, which was preceded in 2021 by the launch of the first eyewear capsule by Brunello Cucinelli and Oliver Peoples, an exclusive brand owned by the French- Italian group.

The two companies’ creative teams achieved significant work together throughout 2023, resulting in the release of the first prestigious “Brunello Cucinelli” eyewear

collection on sale worldwide in the Solomeo-based brand’s main boutiques and leading multi-brand stores dedicated to eyewear. All this reinforces the gracious and fruitful understanding between the two manufacturers, stemming from the esteem and fondness that brought Brunello Cucinelli and Leonardo Del Vecchio together; a good-natured and gentle friendship that blossomed into significant and painstaking research and development, conducted in complete harmony.

This renews an agreement dedicated to promoting the culture of beauty as a meeting ground between taste and the finest Italian craftsmanship, a partnership enriched by the valuable collaboration with the excellent opticians and chains of specialized outlets that will distribute these products representing “well-made in Italy”.

Brunello Cucinelli, Executive Chairman and Creative Director of the fashion house, commented:

“Leonardo Del Vecchio confessed to me one day: ‘Dear Brunello, I don’t know whether the glasses we make are beautiful, but they’re certainly made in the best way in the world!’

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

Today, admiring the excellent result of such formidable work and harmony, I think back to the words of that gracious, strong-willed, steadfast and kind man, who saw in his Agordo company what he liked to call “the beautiful factory”, a little like I do with Solomeo. Leonardo was able to dream and transmit his enthusiasm to those who worked with him, first and foremost to the highly esteemed Francesco Milleri, who with his special and brilliant humanity knows how to establish a relationship of respect and cordiality between our two teams, a measured approach that is the foundation of every humanistic endeavor. The phenomenal product resulting from this heartfelt collaboration represents an outstanding piece of luxury craftsmanship, as well as the Made in Italy that is recognized and embraced worldwide.

Plato said: ‘Beauty is the splendor of truth’. This is why I wholeheartedly hope that our glasses, which are so true and beautiful, will please customers and achieve all the success they deserve.”

Francesco Milleri, Chairman and CEO of EssilorLuxottica, remarked:

“The Brunello Cucinelli fashion house has succeeded in creating a new concept of luxury, fueled by respect for labor and its dignity, which represent its true, deepest soul. We are bound by more than just an agreement: Brunello Cucinelli is not only a great entrepreneur but also a friend whom I respect and admire. The collection we helped to create under his and his family’s creative direction expresses all these values, perfectly combining technology and superior craftsmanship.”

ALPINE EAGLE 41 XP FROZEN SUMMIT PEAK JEWELLERY SOPHISTICATION AND MECHANICAL REFINEMENT

Limited edition of 8 in ethical 18-carat white gold entirely set with diamonds.

Artistic crafts: sparkling diamonds enhanced by masterful setting

While the Alpine Eagle collection has already welcomed a family of gemset timepieces, the Alpine Eagle 41 XP Frozen Summit model has now reached a new pinnacle. This veritable collector’s masterpiece showcases the art of gemsetting cultivated by the Maison’s skilled artisans. They have painstakingly recut several hundred diamonds and set them on the case,

dial and bezel, as well as on each facet of the crown and each link of the bracelet in ethical 18-carat white gold.

With its graphic shapes and geometry, the baguette cut chosen for these stones is particularly suited to the aesthetics of the Alpine Eagle collection and its relationship with light. In instances where the shape of the baguette-cut gems did not lend itself to that of the surfaces, each diamond was carefully recut to ensure that metal remained visible. Assembling, arranging and setting so many gems of the same brilliance and compatible sizes on such a small timepiece is a real challenge. Through the sparkle of these precious stones, Chopard confirms the collection’s profound inspiration drawn from Nature, celebrated as the greatest architect – with diamonds evoking immaculate glaciers and the luminous beauty of the stars shining down upon them.

“With this timepiece, we combine the expertise of our gemsetters with that of our watchmakers, reflecting our heritage in these two artistic crafts perfected over the course of our history – to which we add our lengthy experience in selecting cut stones. Entirely crafted in our workshops, the Alpine Eagle 41 XP Frozen Summit reflects our appreciation of ultimate sophistication”, explains Chopard’s Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele.

The making of an Alpine Eagle XP 41 Frozen Summit timepiece requires no less than 800 hours’ work calling upon the various skills and crafts exercised within the Manufacture.

L.U.C 96.41-L movement: Chopard Manufacture’s watchmaking expertise at the service of the Alpine Eagle collection

Above and beyond its sophisticated design, the Alpine Eagle 41 XP Frozen Summit model beats to the rhythm of the technical excellence cultivated within Chopard Manufacture’s watchmaking workshops. An evolved version of the first calibre presented by the Manufacture in 1996, the new ultra-thin L.U.C 96.41-L movement features an off-centred micro-rotor in 22-carat gold, whose high inertia ensures efficient winding of two barrels. Stacked in accordance with Chopard Twin technology, while preserving the movement’s overall 3.30 mm thickness, they store the energy required to guarantee a total 65-hour power reserve.

Respectful of watchmaking traditions and skills handed down from generation to generation, the Manufacture’s artisans have lavished the highest degree of refined finishing on this movement. All the bridges have been carefully chamfered and adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif: a wealth of details that can be admired through the transparent case-back and which have met the demanding standards laid down by the authorities responsible for granting the prestigious Poinçon de Genève.

Poinçon de Genève: the hallmark of fine craftsmanship

Throughout its vertically integrated production process, Chopard makes and assembles all the components of its Alpine Eagle collection inhouse, from movement to case to bracelet. The entire timepiece is certified by the Poinçon de Genève hallmark guaranteeing the quality and smooth functioning of the watches assembled in the Canton. Stamped on the back of the watch and on the movement’s main bridge, it represents the city of Geneva’s coat-of-arms consisting of a gold key and, above all, an eagle: a symbol not unlike the

original inspiration for the Alpine Eagle collection. Appearing in the wake of the Alpine Eagle Flying Tourbillon and Alpine Eagle 41 XPS models, this Alpine Eagle 41 XP Frozen Summit is the third watch in the collection to be awarded this prestigious label of excellence.

Optimal proportions

The proportions of the Alpine Eagle 41 XP Frozen Summit have been optimised thanks to its thin movement: maintaining a total 41-millimetre diameter, the gemset case is just 9 mm thick, while the flanks and bezel have been trimmed down compared with a classic Alpine Eagle 41 model and thus provide a wider opening onto the diamond-paved dial. These exquisitely pleasing proportions, which Chopard reserves for

exceptional models, endow the timepiece with an aura of graceful elegance.

Alpine Eagle: reinterpreting an icon

Envisioned by three generations of gentlemen in the Scheufele family, the Alpine Eagle collection is a modern reinterpretation of the St. Moritz watch, the first horological creation designed by Chopard’s now Co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, in the late 1970s. With its pure, assertive design, Alpine Eagle enriches this heritage with powerful inspiration drawn from Nature. A round case with raised stylised flanks, a crown engraved with a compass rose, a bezel with eight functional indexed screws: Alpine Eagle is a token of refined and resolutely contemporary elegance.

TIFFANY & CO. CELEBRATES ITS ICONIC JEWELLERY COLLECTIONS IN WITH LOVE, SINCE 1837 CAMPAIGN, CAPTURED BY PHOTOGRAPHER AND DIRECTOR DAN TOBIN SMITH

Tiffany & Co. announces the With Love, Since 1837 campaign, a celebration of love, craft and heritage.

Taking inspiration from legendary Tiffany & Co. window designer Gene Moore, the campaign reveals the untold stories behind the House’s most definitive jewellery collections: Lock, T, Knot, HardWear, Sixteen Stone and the Tiffany® Setting. Shot by award-winning photographer and director Dan Tobin Smith, With Love, Since 1837 modernises a series of vitrines by Gene Moore, whose work has left an indelible mark on the world of window display design. Through imaginative storytelling, the theatrical vignettes prove that love is the beating heart of Tiffany & Co.—the common thread that unites each collection and the jeweller’s illustrious heritage of craftsmanship.

The campaign speaks to the House’s illustrious heritage, telling the origin story of each collection and conferring rich meaning on indelible designs like the Lock bracelet, the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany &

Co. Sixteen Stone ring, HardWear jewellery and other important Tiffany & Co. creations. Lock is a timeless icon inspired by a brooch from 1883, for instance, while the HardWear collection’s pure, bold forms reference a Tiffany bracelet from 1962.

Dan Tobin Smith and awardwinning set designer Rachel Thomas created a larger-than-life set for the campaign. Shot in London, the set ranges from miniature to oversized scale models that flow together seamlessly through shifts in perspective. Rather than relying on postproduction effects, the campaign’s complex and intricate illusions were carefully captured on camera with the use of animated

Gemfields, a world-leading responsible miner and marketer of coloured gemstones, together with Chinese jewellery brand MidnightOperaHouse, has launched the MidnightOperaHouse x Gemfields “Floral Seasonscape” Collection.

MIDNIGHTOPERAHOUSE X GEMFIELDS LAUNCH “FLORAL SEASONSCAPE” COLLECTION

This collaboration with MidnightOperaHouse is the first time that Gemfields has partnered with a Chinese designer brand. A total of three pieces have been meticulously crafted, each exuding a distinctly Eastern nod to Art Deco style with Gemfields Zambian emeralds taking centre stage.

Gemfields Zambian Emeralds in Flower-inspired Oriental Elegance

MidnightOperaHouse was founded in Beijing by designer Johnny Gengyi Yu. The jewellery design integrates both classical elements and chic style, aiming to inspire an interesting dialogue between

Oriental elegance and exotic delicacy. Flowers have always been a favoured design element for designer Johnny Gengyi Yu. In this “Floral Seasonscape” collaborative collection, the rich green dazzle of Gemfields Zambian emeralds shines amidst the serene natural black agate, exuding exquisite beauty with a unique and tranquil Oriental elegance. Whether depicting the blossoming of autumn flowers in a nocturnal window scene, the graceful orchids in the gentle breeze, or the pure elegance of narcissus in a vase, these pieces not only capture the beauty of flowers in all seasons but

also eloquently weave the cultural essence of floral beauty into fine jewellery, inscribing an eternal and romantic sentiment of grace and sophistication. Talking about the design experience, Johnny Gengyi Yu said “This set of works is an attempt to blend oriental aesthetics, classical Baroque art influences and modern Art Deco style. The highlights of this creation are Gemfields’ Zambian emeralds, which inject a touch of vitality into the elegant Oriental charm. They not only perfectly illuminate the classical and elegant colours, but also emanate a delicate and artistic flair.”

Responsibly mined Gemfields

Zambian emeralds

Throughout history, people have loved the beauty of emeralds. The deep glowing green hue of emerald is said to symbolise hope, growth, life, fertility and peace. Zambian emeralds are very rare and were formed over 500 million years ago by a rare combination of temperature, pressure and elements from deep within the Earth’s crust. Zambian emeralds tend to have a higher iron content than other emeralds, which means they are less fragile.

Gemfields acquired the Kagem emerald mine in Zambia in 2008, and is the operator and 75% owner of Kagem, in partnership with the Zambian government. Today, the mine supplies around one in three of the world’s emeralds and is believed to be the world’s single largest producing emerald mine. As a world-leading responsible miner and marketer of coloured gemstones, Gemfields believes that coloured gemstones should be mined and marketed by championing three key values: transparency, legitimacy and integrity.

“Each emerald found at our Kagem mine in Zambia is a gift from Mother Nature. Thought to hold talismanic properties and calming to the eye, emeralds bring to life the jewellery in which they feature. I am delighted to celebrate Gemfields first collaboration with a Chinese designer, particularly one as talented as Johnny Gengyi Yu, who has cleverly created these covetable works of art. Each piece so thoughtfully presents the dazzling emeralds, demonstrating their versatility and energy. They are delightful to behold.” said Emily Dungey, Gemfields’ marketing and communications director.

Detachable design and wearable oriental artwork

The “Floral Seasonscape” Collection features three jewellery pieces.

The “Ingenious Linglong Narcissus” Black Agate Inlaid with Gemfields Zambian Emeralds, Decorated with Mother-of-Pearl and Diamonds, Detachable Pearl Necklace draws inspiration from Eastern bonsai art. At its centre lies a bouquet of narcissus, exuding an Eastern charm, intricately crafted with diamonds and mother-of-pearl on a 18k white gold base. The vessel for the narcissus takes the form of a classical Baroque-style vase. The main body of the vase is carved from black natural agate into petal shapes, prominently featuring five vivid green round-cut Gemfields Zambian emeralds, surrounded by diamonds outlining geometric lines in a decorative style. The entire piece is strung with three strands of seawater pearls, adorned with three pear-shaped Gemfields Zambian emeralds arranged in a captivating sequence at the base. Their vivid green radiance, against the backdrop of white pearls, harmonises with the dazzling Gemfields Zambian emeralds on the vase, adding enduring luxury to the intricate and beautiful Oriental style.

The designer has also created two earrings to match the main necklace. “The Window Harbors Autumn Blooms” Black Agate Inlaid with Gemfields Zambian Emeralds, Gold Sand, and Mother-of-Pearl Window Scene Earrings set on a modern elliptical silhouette, features a natural black agate as the base. Adorned with 16 vivid green round-cut Gemfields Zambian emeralds in the details, and meticulously depicting intricate floral patterns with gold sand and hand-carved mother-of-pearl, it is reminiscent of glimpsing autumn blooms in the quiet night through a window. The artwork radiates a tranquil and exquisite beauty. “Luxuriant Golden Orchids” Black Agate Inlaid with Gemfields Zambian Emeralds Teardrop-shaped Floral Cluster Earrings draws inspiration from the Ming Dynasty painter Qiu Ying’s painting ‘Double Hook Orchid’. The

elongated teardrop-shaped earrings are sleek, delicate, and elegant. The focal point is the pear-shaped Gemfields Zambian emerald at the connection point. The lower part of the earrings is elegantly wrapped in golden threads, adorned with glittering round-cut Gemfields Zambian emeralds, depicting lush flowers and plants in an Oriental freehand style, with smooth lines and exquisite beauty.

“We hope that the pieces in this collaboration with Gemfields Zambian emeralds will not only be treasured as collector’s items, but that they will also bring inspiration to people’s daily outfits. The back of the vase in our main necklace incorporates a delicate mechanism, allowing it to be detached and worn separately as a brooch for a richer and more versatile use, giving rise to the name (‘Linglong,’ meaning exquisite),” said designer Johnny Gengyi Yu.

The MidnightOperaHouse x Gemfields Floral Seasonscape jewellery collection includes the Window Harbors Autumn Blooms earrings at GBP 11,000, the Luxuriant Golden Orchids earrings at GBP 20,000 and the Ingenious Linglong Narcissus detachable necklace and brooch at GBP 70,000 and is available at Midnight Opera House from 1 May 2024.

The studio has recently launched the project “Aligned with Sustainability.” Collaborating closely with the prestigious Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, a public research university in Pisa, Pulina has identified a curated collection of companies where sustainable materials and luxury converge.

“I can say that yacht interior design is preparing to soon welcome ideas and projects born from a synergy of intentions and skills that will put the protection of the planet and human health at the centre of an ambitious project in a sector that has long awaited something truly revolutionary” Alessandro Pulina asserts.

“As designers, we bear the responsibility of creating enduring solutions. While it’s a lengthy process, we can already explore hybrid, transitional approaches. Biomaterials have found their way into carpets, curtains, and upholstery fabrics”

Emphasizing that personalization is the cornerstone of contemporary design, Pulina elaborates that the essence of luxury now lies in the masterful utilization of materials and the reinterpretation of spaces. This entails departing from traditional layouts, whether on board a yacht or within a home, and striving for innovative solutions that foster shared moments of quality.

SUPER STYLE

Design Unlimited is a UKbased studio renowned for its superyacht interior designs, but recent commissions have seen the talented team extend their expertise beyond the water. Born from the symbiotic relationship between maritime design and residential living, their work in the United States is making waves in the interior design industry.

The journey from superyacht to residential design was a natural evolution for Design Unlimited. Clients who appreciated the bespoke and innovative interiors created for their superyachts were often eager to bring that same special touch to their residences, with the synergy and successful design dynamic established during the design of their yacht ensuring consistency of client preferences and application of their chosen aesthetic.

Design Unlimited’s Senior Designer Sophie Porteous explains, “Clients have loved what we achieved on their boats, and many want to replicate that luxury and creativity in their residences. Whether it’s a primary home or a vacation property, the requirements can vary widely, creating unique challenges and opportunities.”

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 64 2024

“We’re ready to open the doors on our property portfolio,” advises Mark Tucker, Founder and Creative Director at Design Unlimited. “We’ve actually been creating interiors for private residences and prestigious properties since 2003 – our first project was a French chateau, quickly followed by a Swedish lake house, and we have continued to implement interior and exterior looks for waterside properties in the USA, and designed for commercial spaces, ever since. With conclusion of our most recent project, we decided it was time to share this aspect of our business more widely.”

The recent project Tucker refers to, was the design of two private residences in the most prestigious part of Miami’s South Beach and the Florida Keys.

Design Unlimited approaches each residential project with the same level of creativity and personal touch as they do each superyacht project. The core of their design process lies in understanding a client’s requirements, both the lifestyle they lead and the lifestyle they strive towards.

Designer Victoria Primrose elaborated on this methodology: “We start by trying to understand the client on a very personal level. Their preferences and personalities drive our designs. We can then present different stylistic options for their review, before continuing the process together to home

in on the perfect solution.” The process includes presenting various design styles, from conventional to “wildcard” options that may push the client out of their perceived comfort zone. It’s an engaging approach that often leads to delightful surprises when both the client and the team are inspired by an unexpected design idea.

The company prides itself on a client-first philosophy, and their broad team of creatives taps into a wide range of inspiration sources, from art history and fashion to architecture. “Our work is influenced by global trends, and that goes way beyond yachts and residential design,” Porteous explains. “‘One-size-fits-all’ is not a phrase our versatile studio is familiar with.”

The influence of yacht design on residential interiors isn’t lost on the team at Design Unlimited, and the designers acknowledge the symbiosis between maritime and home aesthetics. Yacht interior design trends often inspire residential spaces, and creativity flows in both directions. The blending of materials, colour schemes, and even the way they approach the feeling and environment of a space, reflects the company’s ability to bridge the gap between these two worlds seamlessly.

“Applying our expertise in space planning and devising innovative solutions derived from our

work in the yachting sector, we optimise restrictive floor plans and craft interior spaces that are distinctly attuned to each client’s requirements,” says Tucker.

The studio’s expertise extends to every aspect of interior decoration, from upholstery and lighting fixtures to the very finest details. Long-standing relationships with the world’s top-quality suppliers, makers, and fabric houses allow the studio to craft highly personalised interior schemes for each area of the home, sourcing exquisite products and ensuring that every cutlery drawer, linen closet, and dresser is filled with the perfect complements.

Design Unlimited’s foray into residential design showcases their versatility and commitment to innovation. As they continue to make their mark on the global stage, the company stands as a beacon for those seeking a blend of luxury, creativity, and a personalised touch that connects the worlds of superyacht design and luxury living seamlessly.

THE MUCH HADHAM PROJECT

Private Residence - Much Hadham, Hertfordshire

We were so proud to have been appointed to redesign the garden landscape which included a hot tub, swimming pool, barbeque, and dining building as well as a spa building with a sauna, foot spa and shower room. The design brief allowed us some freedom and as a result, we included additional features such as an outdoor shower, seating areas and an intimate sunken seating area with a fire pit.

The Design considerations for this project required detailed coherence between the external landscape, internal habitable areas as well as a well-considered lighting strategy for both.

Attention to every small detail was a key to this project success.

The lighting plays a huge role in providing a subtle emphasis and elegant focus on the different types of vegetation at night whilst providing an ambient atmosphere for socializing during the hot summer nights.

The architectural pillar lights create drama to the landscape and adds a flare in the darkest of nights.

In designing the BBQ building it was critical to have it as open as possible to the landscape so it can blend into it as one, this was achieved by incorporating a fully openable and recessed glazing with removable corner pillars.

The back feature brick slip wall acts as blade that separates the front of house from the back of house and service areas.

Including a wall water feature with bamboo inspired honed Quartz not only adds sounds of serenity to the intimate dining area of the BBQ building, it creates an intriguing interest as the wall only comes to life once water starts to flow. This

water feature has one material but the clever choice of finish changes how it reacts when touched by water hence bringing it to life.

SPA & WELLNESS IN THE MUCH HADHAM PROJECT

Private Residence - Much Hadham, Hertfordshire

The Spa building represents a place of total relaxation. With a full width feature wall of striking black marble

effect porcelain and delicate sanitary ware this only begins the winding down journey at the end of a stressful day.

Designing a foot spa where our client can relax and detox following a long day was a pleasure for us. In the Chinese culture feet reflexology is one of the key therapies they use to directly treat bodily organs. This is of course accompanied by a sauna, shower room, hot tub, outdoor shower and changing facilities so guests can have a full high end spa experience to complete their relaxation session.

The sauna is a pivotal room in this complex where our research lead us to ensure Himalayan salt blocks and natural sustainably sourced Cedar wood is used. This allowed us to deliver a space that not only enhances our client’s health and wellbeing, it also allows them to fully enjoy the relaxing aroma the Cedar wood provides.

The heated outdoor Hot tub contains different massagers strategically selected to deliver various targeted massaging points for the whole body like neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back and calves.

FORESTERS HALL - ISLE OF WIGHT. PERFECTING THE ART OF HOSPITALITY

Film & TV producers Sara Curran and Peter Sussman found themselves in the sailing mecca of Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, at the start of Covid, a place they now call home. As the new owners of Foresters Hall, originally built in 1865 as a monthly meeting place for the Cowes branch of the Ancient Order of Foresters, the couple have transformed the iconic property into an award-winning boutique hotel.

Sara (born and raised in Dublin) and Peter (born and raised in Toronto) met through the film and TV business when Sara was living on the Isle of Wight and working in London, and Peter was based in Los Angeles. For the seven years prior to Covid, Sara and Peter traversed the world, spending up to 200 nights a year in

hotels in many different locations for business and pleasure.

While Foresters Hall represents their first time working in hospitality, they gained much perspective on what makes a good hotel through their extensive travels. The couple chose Foresters Hall for its beauty

and sophistication. And while they are passionately committed to maintaining excellence at Foresters Hall, they can often be seen in the hotel bar or library on their laptops working on a new film or tv series.

Foresters Hall is found inside a classy cream Georgian townhouse amongst the pastel coloured houses on Sun Hill in Cowes’s old town. The most striking thing as you enter is how much grander it is than first appears from the outside. Across the threshold you’ll find high ceilings, original features, delightful artworks and a warm Irish welcome. The aesthetic cleverly walks the line between old and new, with uplifting paint tones and wallpapers, warm lighting, dark-wood floors, rolltop baths and working fireplaces. There is a hidden garden and most surprising of all, a heated outdoor saltwater pool featuring a mural of a diver by the world’s most famous 3D artist.

The bedrooms have thoughtful details such as thick blankets, quilted comforters and Roberts radios. Many have picturesque harbour and sea views, while others overlook Cowes or the hotel’s pretty terraced garden. Some have free-standing baths and all have stylish bathrooms with Cowshed products and GHD hairdryers and straighteners.

The impressive art collection built up by Peter and Sara over many years can be seen around the hotel, and showcases an array of recognisable talent from both UK and International artists such as Alex Katz, Yousuf Karsh and Keith Haring. An Annie Leibovitz snapshot of Bruce Springsteen can be found in the ladies bathroom and in the library hangs the latest addition to the collection - a remarkable portrait of musician Neil Young by Christopher Wahl. Like everything at Foresters Hall, there is a great story behind every piece.

Chef Jake Storey joined the culinary team at Foresters Hall as Head Chef in October 2023 and the restaurant by Smoking Lobster has already been recommended in the MICHELIN Guide 2024. Prior to this, Chef Storey spent six years working under Chef Michael Caines MBE at Lympstone Manor ultimately as Senior Sous Chef. His menu at Foresters Hall highlights seasonal ingredients, locally sourced seafood and freshly made pasta. Both hotel residents and non-residents can enjoy lunch and dinner in the restaurant, bar, private dining room and on the sundrenched terrace.

During the Summer season, the restaurant’s regular a la carte menu is available from Wednesday to Saturday for lunch & dinner. On Sundays Chef Storey serves a special menu featuring the Great British favourite, the Sunday Roast. Breakfast is reserved for residents only.

MICHELIN Guide says: “The dishes showcasing locally caught fish are the way to go. There is a friendly, informal air to the service, and the courtyard terrace is an ideal spot in the summer.”

Foresters Hall is also honoured to be accepted by the hotel experts at MICHELIN Guide as a TABLET PLUS HOTEL.

“TABLET prides themselves on finding the world’s most exciting hotels — places where you get a memorable experience, not just a room for the night. For over 20 years MICHELIN has scoured the earth to find hotels that stand out for their style, service, and personality, which Foresters Hall has in abundance.”

Foresters Hall is also the only hotel on the Isle of Wight accepted by boutique hotel specialists Mr & Mrs Smith.

What makes Foresters Hall the perfect English coastal getaway? Top-quality furnishings and surroundings, a relaxed and comforting environment, a nod to history and the sea nearby. Enjoy the sunrise as Cowes harbour wakes up and the espresso experience begins. Late mornings strolling the coastal paths by the sea. Afternoons spent poolside, cocktail in hand, watching the sun go down and delicious food on the table in the relaxed but elegant restaurant.

The bar at the hotel is fully stocked and renowned for the freshest cocktails. Drinks can be served by the bar, library, sun-room or terrace — and for residents by the swimming pool or in the garden. Lounging at

Foresters Hall is emphasised, varied and special.

There’s much to do on the Isle of Wight. Within walking distance of the hotel are the various sailing clubs in Cowes including the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron as well as beaches, boats, tennis courts, basketball courts and golf. Complimentary pedal bikes are available for hotel guests wanting to venture a little further afield.

Foresters Hall is only two hours from London.

AN ICON REBORN: BANG & OLUFSEN UNVEILS ITS SECOND RECREATED CLASSICTHE BEOSYSTEM 9000C

Bang & Olufsen announce the revival of another product icon with the launch of the Beosystem 9000c music system. The new system features a fully restored and reimagined Beosound 9000 CD player from the 1990’s paired with Bang & Olufsen’s modern Beolab 28 speakers for a powerful listening experience.

Following the success of the Beogram 4000c recreated turntable in 2020, Beosystem 9000c is the second project in the recreated classics series that demonstrates Bang & Olufsen’s commitment to the brand’s longevity promise: “Creating products that can stand the test of time.”

“With our Recreated Classics series, we are showcasing how Bang & Olufsen’s unique capabilities within sound, design and craftsmanship are creating long-lasting, circular products. We want to demonstrate that a second-life product can be just as attractive as a new product and that a high-quality item such as the Beosound 9000 doesn’t need to have an end-date,” says Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Head of Product Circularity & Portfolio Planning at Bang & Olufsen. He continues:

“More than showcasing our commitment to product longevity, we wanted to celebrate the revival of physical media that has taken place in recent years. Vinyls and CDs have returned to being something special, where people invest time and energy to connect with the music and artists they love. Longevity in design and the passion for music listening are essentially

what we are celebrating with the launch of Beosystem 9000c. It is all about keeping listening choices alive”.

Bang & Olufsen has sourced 200 units of the original Beosound 9000 CD player and returned them to the company’s factory in Struer, Denmark. The same place, where they were first created from 1996. The CD players are disassembled and thoroughly inspected by a

team of skilled service technicians, including many of the same colleagues that worked on the Beosound 9000’s in the 1990s, using the original workshop tables. Every component is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, and once they have been inspected, each Beosound 9000 is individually tested and fine-tuned to meet Bang & Olufsen’s exacting specifications.

For over 57 years, Ralph Lauren’s heritage has been deeply rooted in a spirit of ‘sporty elegance’. The brand has rich history in the world of sport with a renowned portfolio of global partnerships across tennis, golf, and the Olympics, along with

That is a message that really resonates with me in my baseball career and in my life,” said Aaron Judge.

A pioneer in the convergence of sport and style, Ralph Lauren transformed the fragrance

THE BALANCE HEALTHCARE GROUP EXPANDS LUXURY MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION SERVICES FOR UHNW INDIVIDUALS

The Balance RehabClinic, renowned for its luxury mental health and addiction services, proudly announces its expansion into The Balance Healthcare Group: a collection of premium mental health solutions tailored for affluent individuals. These new services will include two new programs.

The Cogniful Therapeutic Community: a community based mental health and addiction clinic, specialising in treatment and recovery in group settings.

The Senses Wellness Clinic: a wellness and longevity clinic, specialising in burnout recovery and vitality for high performing individuals and athletes. Each of these exclusive programs will continue to take place in luxury villas in Mallorca, Zurich, and oneof-a-kind offshore yacht programs. For those who wish to experience

The Balance at home - they offer outpatient options in Marbella, London, and New York.

Founded by Abdullah Boulad, whose previous high-profile career led him to his own burnout. Boulad learned about the healthcare system the hard way and took time to understand all aspects and avenues towards healing. He worked in the Swiss Rehab market and identified how he’d do it better. He built The Balance on three key elements. He wanted non-clinical settings that prioritised luxurious, spacious environments. He wanted it away from the passive stress of city living. Lastly, he wanted to change the way healthcare professionals operated.

Abdullah Boulad, CEO and Founder said: “The healthcare system today is broken down by symptoms. We know that those symptoms are only a sign of a deeper, underlying issue. We’ve been taught to look at our pain and problems in isolation - this

misses so much of the human health experience. When you come to The Balance, you receive care that’s inter-connected. Your therapist works with your doctor, works with your nutritionist, who works with you. We bring it all together. Which is why we’re able to treat and understand multi-diagnosis issues.

“We understand the lifestyle and struggles of high-profile, highperforming individuals. We know the importance of finding a place that puts privacy above all else. This expansion comes off the back of industry trends and our client feedback. We’ve mastered our approach, and now it’s time to expand the limits of who we can reach.”

The cost of services range from €35,000 to €85,000 a week for inpatient services. A client can expect a full biochemical restoration, cutting edge technology treatments, as well as clinical and complementary therapies.

EXPRESSIONISTS: KANDINSKY, MÜNTER AND THE BLUE RIDER

In the early 20th century, an international circle of friends came together to transform modern art. Their story is told in a major new exhibition at Tate Modern – Expressionists: Kandinsky, Münter and the Blue Rider – celebrating their radical experimentation with form, colour, sound and performance.

The show draws on the world’s richest collection of expressionist masterpieces at the Lenbachhaus in Munich, alongside rare loans from public and private collections, including works never previously seen in the UK. From celebrated artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Franz Marc and Paul Klee, to previously overlooked figures like Wladimir Burliuk and Maria Franck-Marc, the exhibition reveals the multicultural and transnational nature of this key moment in early modernist art.

The Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter) was a loosely affiliated and diverse network of artists, connected by their desire to express personal experiences and spiritual ideas. They published their groundbreaking Almanac in 1912, edited by Kandinsky and Marc, and staged two public exhibitions in 1911 and 1912. The collective brought together highly individual creatives from across western and eastern Europe and the USA to form ‘a union of various countries to serve one purpose’. They proclaimed that ‘the whole work, called art, knows no borders or nations, only humanity.’

Tate Modern’s exhibition begins with the collective’s core couple of Kandinsky and Münter and their creative network in preFirst World War Munich. Munich at that time was an artistic hub of experimentation where different cultures and experiences

converged. A room of stunning portraits and self-portraits introduce this diasporic creative community, including Marianne Werefkin’s Self-Portrait c. 1910 and Münter’s Listening (Portrait of Jawlensky) 1909. A selection of photographs from the Masterpieces of Muhammadan Art exhibition staged in Munich in 1910 and Erma Bossi’s bold and expressive Circus 1909 demonstrate diverse urban experiences, while themes of sexuality and performance are explored through Werefkin’s collaboration with free-style performer Alexander Sacharoff, including her provocative 1909 portrait reflecting the dancer’s androgynous persona.

The urban centre of Munich is contrasted with rural Murnau, a small sub-Alpine Bavarian town which became home for Münter and Kandinsky from 1909. This space for creative exchange and artistic experimentation inspired a new search for spirituality and an interest in folk art. Encounters with the local landscape and vernacular culture influenced a move to expressive painterly compositions focused on the power of line and colour, leading Kandinsky and Münter to radically new approaches in both abstract and figurative painting such as Improvisation Deluge 1913 and Portrait of Marianne Werefkin 1909. Meanwhile, their friends and collaborators Marc and Franck-Marc explored the animal world and the creativity of children through works such as Tiger 1912 and Girl with Toddler c. 1913.

Some rooms offer visitors experiential environments focused on single works which capture modernism’s fascination with sound, colour and light. These include Kandinsky’s Impression III (Concert) 1911, revealing his interest in the neurodiverse condition known

as synaesthesia in which one of the senses is experienced through another, and Franz Marc’s 1911 Deer in the Snow II, whose mysteries are unlocked through an exploration of colour theory and optics.

The exhibition concludes by showing how the Blue Rider artists ensured their lasting legacy in ways we recognise today – publishing manifestos and editorials, curating exhibitions, touring shows, and fostering relationships with museums and galleries. Münter staged a solo show at Berlin’s Der Sturm, Klee’s Legend of the Swamp 1919 nearly perished in the infamous Degenerate Art exhibition of 1937, while Kandinsky’s text On the Spiritual in Art was translated and is still published internationally across the globe. With the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914 the collective was dispersed, but their ideas and aspirations for a transnational creative community still resonate powerfully today.
