Job Summary The Accounting Assistant is responsible for assisting with specific areas relating to Midwest Housing Equity Group’s (“MHEG”) financial reporting and accounting, as well as its multiple entities. This position is responsible for providing support to the Accounting Manager by performing a variety of moderately complex accounting, bookkeeping and financial tasks to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and tax returns. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including bank reconciliation, accounts payable and accounts receivable, and general ledger preparation. This individual works with the Chief Financial Officer, Accounting Coordinator and occasionally, MHEG’s outside accountants/auditors. Job Duties and Responsibilities •

Generally o Execute all Accounts Payable functions on a weekly basis, to include collecting and processing invoices, statements, expense reports, and credit card statements, assigning expense codes into the accounting software, and administering payments, per the company expense policy. o Maintain and reconcile moderately complex bank statements and reports for multiple entities. o Originate, distribute, and review receivables on a monthly basis. o Communicate with investors and ensure the timely collection and processing of payments toward investor accounts. o Prepare general ledger entries for accrued expenses. o Assist with data entry and basic processing for the accounting department. o Prepare the preliminary Source & Use schedule for equity advances. o Maintain digital financial records. o Research questions regarding current and historical accounting data. o Assist with tracking loan payment terms, receipt of payments, and upcoming due dates. o Provide additional support to CFO and Accounting Manager. o Provide backup support to administrative staff, including but not limited to, answering phone calls, greeting visitors, sorting mail, and other daily administrative duties.


Managerial Responsibility – none Knowledge, Skill, Licenses, Competency Requirements • Strong knowledge of accrual basis accounting and bookkeeping procedures. • Attention to detail and accuracy a must. • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at any given time. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. • Must possess and maintain valid Driver’s License. Education, Experience • Associate’s Degree in Accounting. • OR 6+ years experience working in an accounting capacity. Computer Skills • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks • Ability to learn Sage Intacct, Asset Keeper, and LoanLedger. • Proficient with other Microsoft Office suite of products. Work Environment Work takes place in a typical office environment equipped with a computer, phone, copier, printer and other standard office supplies. Overnight travel is rare (less than once a year). Occasional day trips for off-site office events/meetings. Physical Requirements • Ability to work under pressure during peak periods. • Ability to work in typical office environment: type proficiently, use a computer, see computer screens and read/comprehend numerous financial and tax reports. • Ability to lift 30 pounds. • When traveling, incumbent may be exposed to varying environmental conditions (e.g., inclement weather, crowded or unsanitary conditions, dirt, dust, construction work).
