January 2015 Issue As a community service, Mental Health America of Greater Houston is pleased to offer the following low‐cost education workshops, seminars and trainings:

The Women’s Mental Health Initiative Mental Health America of Greater Houston leads a Women’s Mental Health collaborative effort to significantly improve the mental health outcomes of mothers of new babies in the Greater Houston area. All Perinatal Mental Health Trainings consist of the following:  Awareness of postpartum depression  Detection and screenings  PPD and other perinatal mental health  Stigma of women seeking help for PPD concerns March 20, 2015 YCMF Advisory Committee Meeting *OPEN to Public* 12:00pm‐1:30pm MHA Main Office April 30, 2015 *OPEN to Public* Postpartum Depression (PPD) Train‐the‐Trainer 5:00pm‐7:00pm United Way Trainer(s): Dr. Rhoda Seplowitz and Janella del Mundo Gee, LPC **In exchange for the training, participants will be asked to present two (2) perinatal mental health trainings in the Greater Houston area during 2015.** Training: $10, Free CEUs May 13, 2015 *OPEN to Public* Postpartum Depression (PPD) ‐ General Training 12:00pm‐1:30pm United Way Trainer: Elisabeth Nertherton Training: $10, CEUs $5 (LMSW, LMFT and LPC)

Mental Health & Aging The MHA Mental Health and Aging Committee raises awareness about the mental health concerns that affect aging and elderly adults and promotes health aging strategies. Its members focus on helping aging and elderly adults understand how to keep mentally fit and to know where they can get help for depression, anxiety or mental health problems. All Mental Health & Aging trainings consist of the following:  Education on depression and the elderly and  Prevention strategies for mental illness in the among caregivers elderly including prevention of suicide  Reducing the stigma of mental illness  Healthy aging and promotion of strong mental health among older adults February 3, 2015 Mental Health and Aging Committee Meeting *OPEN to Public* 1:00pm‐2:30pm MHA Main Office June 17, 2015 *OPEN to Public* Mental Health & Aging Training: 12:00pm‐1:00pm United Way Facilitator: Esther Steinberg, LCSW Training: $10, NO CEUs will be provided

Chronic Illness and Mental Health The MHA Chronic Illness and Mental Health committee raises awareness about the mental health concerns of those with a chronic disease. The workgroup provides educational information on creating an action plan for addressing the mental health needs of their constituents as part of an integrated approach to care.
