When to Visit Boquete? The high season starts in November in Boquete, and even though the rainy season is not quite over yet, visitors from Panama City and other regions of the country flock to Boquete to spend the patriotic holidays of November here. December is also a very good time to visit, not only because of the year-end festivities but because the weather is sunny and temperatures average a mild 25 degrees Celsius. This is an ideal time to hike the Quetzales trail and take other tours. January, February and March are busy times as well, with the Coffee and Flower Fair, the Orchid Fair and the popular Jazz & Blues Festival. All together, the high season in Boquete runs from November to March, which unfortunately is also reflected in the hotel rates. However, even in the high season prices are well below North American or European rates. If you're looking to escape the cold and spend your winters in mild temperatures and sunshine, surrounded by landscapes that soothe the soul and invigorate the body, come to Boquete. Mid-season begins in March / April, when the weather is somewhat changeable, with sunny mornings that frequently turn to rain showers in the afternoon. This is the best time to observe a variety of birds, and the possibility of sighting a Quetzal or other rare bird is very high. This is also the best time for river rafting and kayaking around Boquete, since the water level is ideal for these activities. Mid-season continues until about August, and is a perfect time to visit all of the sights at your leisure. During this time, you will also find hotel offers here and there. The end of June is Health & Wellness Week, and the many participating businesses will provide you with a wealth of information and the latest in courses and seminars on this topic. Since afternoons are a little rainy this time of year, they can be used for successful bird watching or hiking to Baru Volcano, while the numerous wellness opportunities offer the perfect way to end the day.

September and October are the months with the fewest tourists in town. Days are often rainy, but everything is lush and green and alive. River levels are at their highest, which might please some rafters, and temperatures occasionally drop below 20 degrees Celsius. Especially at this time of the year, you will not be distracted by noisy events and can focus entirely on yourself, visiting the different spas or attending events at the hotels or restaurants â&#x20AC;&#x201C; or taking a long-overdue course, studying, reading or preparing a paper. Boquete is the ideal choice for this time of the year. If you want to relax, you can simply drive to the coast and enjoy a nice weekend by the sea. Almost all the hotels have very attractive offers, and you can always negotiate a bargain with them. Travelers who want to stay longer can rent an apartment or house for very little, or, with a little luck, even house sit rentfree.

Boquete offers a lot of advantages over Switzerland: The temperature is just right all year round, not too hot and not too cold; it costs a fraction of a trip to Switzerland and there is more to do here than you would first imagine, with white-water rafting, horseback riding, bird watching, ATV trips, mountain safaris, hot springs, Spanish classes and coffee tours. Boquete may not have edelweiss, but it is renowned for a large variety of orchids, beautiful rainbows and an abundance of fresh tropical fruits delivered from the lowlands, plus so much more. Fresh mountain air is full of 'negative ions' and although they are called â&#x20AC;&#x153;negativeâ&#x20AC;?, they have a positive effect on our whole body. Health stores in the US, Canada, and Europe sell electrical ionizers you plug in to recreate these 'negative ions' that have a positive effect. No need to plug in a machine to get those negative ions here in Boquete, as the air is full of them. The fast flowing rivers and abundance of waterfalls fill the air with life-giving moistureand energy. The perfect temperature all year round means you won't be cooped up in an artificial (unnatural) atmosphere of central heating as you might in Switzerland. Pineapple and Papaya Enzyme-rich papaya and pineapple are always available and extremely cheap all year round. But more importantly, these fruits are full of highly beneficial enzymes, especially important as we get older. Fresh pineapple contains an enzyme known as bromelain, an antiinflammatory that helps to ease stiff and painful joints as well as enhance digestion. Bromelain is present in all parts of the pineapple (Ananas comosus) but is most concentrated in the stem, which is used to produce the enzyme bromelain commercially. When making a smoothie, always include the stem. Pineapples have had a long tradition as a medicinal plant among the natives of South and Central America. Fresh papaya contains papain, an enzyme that helps to break down protein and improve digestion. The province of Chiriqui is the largest province in the highlands of Panama. It is the country's main coffee-growing region, producing some of the best coffees in the world.
