European crane fly (leatherjackets)

Distribution Both the European crane fly (Tipula paludosa) and the common crane fly (Tipula oleracea ) spread since 1967 from Washington State around the country. In 2000 these two species were established in the northwestern U.S., as well as British Columbia and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. They were found since 2007 in Grand Rapids and Detroit Michigan and New York. Some sporadic reports have surfaced in Minnesota.
