Concreteness demands transparent choices vetronica

Innovation doesn’t simply mean to substitute the past with a rootless present. The search for new design solutions must integrate traditions and modernity, interpreting the changes through experience.

MESON’S

MESON’S INTERPRETER OF THE CHANGE We are accustomed to accept change as a constant of our personal and professional life: but, have you ever asked yourself the reason of this continuous tension with metamorphosis? We think that “progress” doesn’t mean throwing away what appears to be obsolete and substitute it with something new. It is something a lot deeper than that. Capitalize the experience through research, exploiting the value of history,

is the only way to be ready to fight the challenges of our times. Project Meson’s comes from this idea: a magazine that wants to communicate informing with clarity, avoiding self-contemplation, driven by our passion for the product and the customer experience. We offer eco-friendly materials, harmonious in the forms and in the combinations, because we believe that living in harmony and in beauty makes people better. But our deepest desire is to offer the tools for an engaging and knowledgeable choice, with experience and innovation.

ESSENCES AND COLORS REINTERPRET WHITE Incursions of color to freely re-think the absolute white of contemporary design. The spaces vibrate with new light giving an unpredictable rhythmic effect, which rekindles the senses and emotions.

Open container with lacquered opaque interior and edges in hue with the frontal of the kitchen.

MESON’S

The light and delicate soul of the wood manages to warm up even the colder surfaces, contaminating the purity of the white with a touch of elegance with a northern flavor. And the kitchen rediscovers its friendly and cozy nature, making it the center of modern living. It’s almost a camouflage game between the white and the wood, which adds warmth to the ambient with endless stylistic solutions.

Absolute and essential as is the trend or reinterpreted with bold color details, white is the undisputed protagonist of modern ambient, from the kitchen to the living room, with its elegant and minimal soul. Denial of color but also its totality, it doesn’t accept compromise: it softens the contours bringing life to the volumes.

MESON’S

The purity of the white contributes to enlighten the ambient, giving the project linearity and width. The spaces expand as an effect of the light reflected from the surfaces, giving the composition not only modernity and a pinch of abstraction, but also fickleness, a casual synthesis between presence and absence.

WATER AND MATTER CREATIVE ELEMENTS Faucets are no longer considered simple functional accessories, but a true hallmark of the style of a kitchen. It is no longer a random choice, according to modern design that requires the rational elements to be revised in a creative way. Style and technology work together to develop more efďŹ cient components with a strong personality, for a harmonic experience within the kitchen, between utility and inspiration.

“SUBSTANTIAL” DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AESTHETICS AND UTILITY It is the kitchen, most of all, the domestic space in which we feel the need for a structural but also formal organization of the elements. The need to rationalize the spaces without compromising the aesthetics dictates the choice of all the units and the accessories that make up the ambient, from the kitchen stove to the sink, up to the lighting fixtures. The desire of formal sobriety is accompanied

by the need to intelligently distribute the volumes, obtaining a functional and, at the same time, welcoming habitat. Meson’s kitchens integrate appearance and essence, offering highly efficient, modern and elegant furnishing solutions, redrawing the geometries and pleasing every member of the household. Because when it comes to choosing between aesthetics and functionality, we have no doubt: we pick both.

Properly configured spaces improve the usability of the kitchen and its accessories. You can design infinite organizational solutions, depending on your specific needs.

The psychology of everyday Things* Tips for irrational shopping If you never want to feel embarrassed again when faced with a beautiful design object that you don’t know how to use, finally someone explains that the problem is not you, but the designer. The title of this section is a tribute to Donald A. Norman, who wrote The Psychology of Everyday Things in the mid - 90’s and has helped many people getting rid of this nightmare. Each object can be relatively useful or useless, a design object, however, to be called such, must always be functional.

At the foot of Monte Grappa, on the western side, the deep and narrow valley of Valsugana leads from Bassano del Grappa to Trento. In this valley, where the sun comes up only for a few hours a day, I find one forgotten village after another, at the edge of the impressive highway that connects Padova to Trento. The charm of these places is the presence of large houses built of stone, wood and stone flakes, as they once used to build them. Solagna is the first village you meet on the road, leaving Bassano: I turn right searching for the MAT, cultural arts center. I did not even have to ask, the road-signs are accurate and soon I find myself in front of a big iron gate, behind which stands a huge three-story building, well restored, but without the “rouge”, simple and impressive, typical of industrial architecture of the mid 800’s.

The sign at the entrance of the MAT says: “Visitors are welcome, please buzz or call the following numbers…”

MESON’S

Originally a textile mill, later converted into a tobacco warehouse, and then a communal space in disuse in the ‘60s. An inscription on the bell greets me: “Visitors are welcome”. Immediately, I think of all those bells that say: “For Jehovah’s Witnesses… do not ring!” or “Do not touch!” or “Do not walk on the grass!” and “Do not pee out of the hole!” All those bans that sometimes make us feel less free, and even a little judged... here, instead, I am encouraged to enter. I find the invitation very comfortable, offbeat and a bit ‘”from the past.” “From the past” moreover, is also the distinguished gentleman who comes to open the gate. Ermanno greets me with a smile, a relaxed face, bright, beautiful silver hair, well-coiffed, the gait of a decayed nobleman, but I would not say for financial reasons, perhaps because society now seems too vulgar, too different from him to remain in vogue. The garden has the charm of a quirk from D’Annunzio, a little ‘wild’, with ruins of capitals and sculptures, plants, wrought iron tables and chairs in full and magnificent art nouveau. Ermanno takes me inside, he walks before me and tells me about the building, about the renovation that took place ten years before, he speaks and I am already lost into the infinite world that opens before me. The great nave stores a real collection of forgotten objects, patiently collected, cleaned and placed in a point X of the immense container. Chairs, tables, chandeliers, lamps, vases, sculptures, paintings, benches, sideboards, cabinets, jewelry, posters, bags, masks, tin boxes, toys, dishes, chessboards... an entire display case that contains at least a thousand tiny salt and pepper shakers. A world, the world! The most absurd and assorted variety of objects produced from 1800 to nowadays that I have ever seen gathered together.

Three floors of pure collector madness, all for sale, the smell of wood, moisture, dust of fabrics, from past lives. Paola and Ermanno: her, a former jewelry and trinkets merchant, him, a retired insurer, both rich in creativity and great manual skills, fifteen years of unbridled passion for the bizarre, for the arts and crafts, for the reappraisal of jobs from the past. Kind of an English arts and craft, but in full “Po river” style. At the MAT you can take a course in ceramics restoration, carpentry, painting, and evenings of poetry and theater are organized. It is a cultural center, a true museum of humanity. Inside pieces of historical design, like a beautiful red Valentine, one of the first portable Olivetti typewriters, designed with a hard case by Ettore Sottsass in the late 60’s, old lamps “Fontana Arte” now discontinued and an unobtainable Brionvega radio, mixed and matched with all kinds of memorabilia and scraps from the cellar, which all seem to have the same dignity. The walls exude stories to be told and even Ermanno knows a lot of them! I look around and get lost in the hundreds of small objects. Above me, stacked on a shelf, a cult piece from the ‘80s, the dream of so many children of my generation, symbol of technology and progress: Emiglio, a strange remote controlled robot.

The slogan said: “Emiglio is better!”... I smile thinking that in the commercial he always looked much bigger. I think of all the people who owned these objects, I think of all the houses that contained them in the past, I imagine scenarios, people, I wonder who sold them, abandoned, given, stolen, lost, I wonder who purchased them, cared for, protected, exhibited, used. I walk incredulous the three floors of the building, where I could spend hours and hours. I sketch a list of items I need, after all I am here to work, I find everything I hoped, and definitely something more, ask about rates for the rental and then I arranged the pick up. Occasionally I go back to the MAT, because that space never ceases to amaze me. Paola likes to change the arrangement of all the objects, which allows visitors to see objects that maybe they had not noticed in previous visits, but also allows her to enjoy the e moment, the contact, picking up her items and savoring the materials, the manufacture. I look at her from afar as she touches her ceramics and seems to caress them and recalls the moment she found almost every piece; I feel a sense of pleasure for her and with her. er. I suggest a visit to the MAT to those who are not far, in the end it’s always nice to feel appreciated.

REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE The reasons behind a choice Marco Antonello, accountant by trade and a football coach by passion, lives in the historical center of Castelfranco Veneto with his partner Paola, a lawyer. In a beautiful location, where the medieval walls frame the statue of Giorgione, Marco’s apartment features a Meson’s kitchen. We’ve asked him to tell us the reasons for this choice.

MESON’S

57

Interview by Valentina Olivieri

The first thing that I notice about Marco is his availability, typical of that kind of people who you are glad to meet on a difficult day, maybe after the line up at

“I am very demanding when we talk about the environment. Rationality, integration and a pinch of insanity are fundamental ingredients to design beauty. This is the reason why Meson’s was a special ally.”

the post office or an appointment at the dentist. He puts you in a good mood, smiles, speaks softly and clearly. Immediately and by few details - anything but random details- we understand that Marco made it his own the new assertion of contemporary design, according to which “less is more”. A “no clutter” environment, the walls of a candor no photos or framework has dared contaminating, except for one very well in sight in the kitchen. Another thing that is soon recognizable is Marco and Paola’s love for food, wine, friends and good living. Thus, between a slice of cake and a flute of wine, we begin.

Mark, let’s start from the beginning of your choice: how did you get to know about the Meson’s brand? I already knew the company, but I never had the opportunity to observe one of their products. One evening, I was visiting some friends new place for the first time and their kitchen impressed me so much that I remembered it when I had to choose the kitchen for my own house. So I have called them to ask about it and they told me it was a Meson’s product. I later found out that other friends had chosen the same brand, so I gathered their opinions, even if I was already pretty certain of my decision. And what persuaded you the most during this first visit? I love details, I like analyzing everything and look at things with a critical eye. The quality of detail has caught my attention and the simplicity of the lines did the rest. I liked it from the first moment, instinctively. Have you evaluated many alternatives for your furniture? Not many, actually. When I have to take a decision, I tend to narrow down the possibilities to decide between only a few options. At first I thought of having a craftsman doing the job, but then I realized that the right choice was Meson’s.

MESON’S

And why? I am very picky when it comes to the environment. Rationality, integration and a pinch of insanity are essential ingredients to design beauty. This is why Meson’s has been a special ally. Other factors have contributed to the choice, for example the relationship with the dealer: he was always available, it allowed me to assess different types of layouts and followed me after the purchase very professionally. Now that you have had a direct experience, would you choose Meson’s again for future projects? Definitely. It has met all of my expectations and I have recommended it to one of my colleagues. I do not think I would change anything. I like it, and I like it as it is. Let’s play: a friend needs help choosing a new kitchen and he asks for advice: in a single sentence describe Meson’s to him. The perfect synthesis between quality and style. Thanks Marco. Thank you... some more cake?

Materials of the future

SILICONE HYGIENE AND ENDURANCE GUARANTEED FOR A LIFETIME In recent years, kitchen manufacturers have accepted an important challenge, agreeing to “contaminate” the manufacturing process with innovative and high performance materials that were historically considered typical of other industries. The introduction of materials such as silicone, aluminum or glass, which technical and structural characteristics provide extreme solidity, hygiene and safety in a variety of uses, represents a decisive step towards a new way to make quality furniture. Meson’s strongly believes in the search for new materials, which in the design phase are chosen to achieve a durable and reliable end product. For a responsible consumption and a design that is truly sustainable.

The elegant table in transparent glass extending perpendicular to the kitchen island is assembled without the use of metallic elements, but with an innovative and invisible gluing system. In this project, the elegant lightness of the glass used in two different forms (transparent for the table and opaque white for the kitchen) blends in complete harmony with the delicacy of the decorative wooden open containers.

LET’S TALK about SUSTAINABILITY Durable products are key to sustainable living The environmental impact of the products we consume is a variable that we consider more and more during the process of selecting and purchasing. This increasing attention to the environment comes from the new awareness that the consumption pattern -unresponsive and uncontrolledadopted in the past has led us inevitably to deteriorating the environmental conditions and to a worse quality of life. But according to which criteria such an educated consumer can measure the impact of his behavior on the environment? The products we buy are now full of logos and labels that should guarantee a so-called environmental compatibility. But why not ask the question with a simple and large dose of common sense? It is the task of the regulators to establish all those rules that limit the consumption of resources during production and disposal of consumer goods, but consumers have a much more powerful tool:

CHOOSING PRODUCTS WHOSE DURABILITY MAKES “RECYCLING” UNNECESSARY. A kitchen, produced with ecofriendly policies, purchased in 2012 and replaced in 2017 will have a greater impact on the planet than a kitchen whose quality, aesthetics and technique, allows for its replacement in 2022. Consequently, the main tool in the hands of the consumers in order to contribute to the preservation of environmental resources is the purchase of durable goods: the real pollution is in fact originated from the rapid deterioration in appearance and performance of the products we buy. Meson’s actively promotes the use of materials with lower environmental impact, and at the same time produces kitchens that accompany families for as long as possible, thus helping to limit new consumption and minimize the resulting environmental impoverishment. lines and timeless matter Eastern philosophies put at the center of all human activities the physical and spiritual welfare of individuals. K_ZEN takes inspiration from this principle, built with natural materials shaped into simple and modern lines, which delineate a timeless dimension. This type of “spiritual” design features a clean living environment, comfortable and relaxing, leaving no space to ostentation of superfluous. If the inner serenity comes from small daily actions, the home must be designed to provide its occupants harmony, beauty and simplicity of use: this is why we’ve created K_ZEN.

A silent project. Perfection does not need to be displayed. There are spaces in which the designer does not aunt his creativity, but favors the soul of a place without interference, giving the furniture a discreet and slight presence, perfectly integrated. As if it was an inner journey, the compositional elements blend harmoniously with their surroundings, almost disappearing, to enhance the natural simplicity. In this type of project, the rational distribution of volumes gives the composition a lighter and more spacious appearance.

FEED THE BODY TO HEAL THE SPIRIT Wash, cut, Sautee, grill... these are the noble gestures to which the most important part of the project-kitchen is destined. Generous surfaces host sophisticated cooking utensils, as the Japanese teppanyaki grill, while the eye is free to get lost in the surrounding nature, thanks to the large windows. Because in the kitchen you can also meditate.

Some kitchens are lived occasionally, even if with intensity, in other kitchens families spend majority of their time. These environments are dedicated not only to standard cooking but also to store the wine collection, to experiment new recipes, to prepare jams and preserves. These kitchens smell of fresh bread, their refrigerators are always full of grocery from the daily shopping and there is no trace of pre-cooked foods. The generous spaces are an invitation to conviviality and welcome numerous guests, following the best family tradition.

A sophisticated project. Even an operational context as the kitchen, with thousands of objects and olfactory contamination, can be elegant and refined if the project so requires, because “dirty hands” is not synonymous of negligence, but of genuine creative passion.

FUNCTIONAL TECHNO-OENOLOGY The contemporary thought on the subject of furniture has revolutionized the classic combination of appliances (refrigerator, oven, stove and dishwasher), which is often not enough to meet the needs of those who make the kitchen the principal stage of daily life. Technology has “invaded” the kitchen with new appealing features, including temperature and humidity controlled wine storage: this project prefigures the presence of a large cellar, to satisfy the most experienced wine collector.

MY WAY OUR CULINARY SECTION

Recently we have witnessed a widespread appreciation of food from a communication point of view, primarily because of its undeniable power as a social aggregator. Without conflicting with this truth, my travel buddies and I would like to focus more on the “reflective” aspect of food. Starting from the objective fact that almost all the cells of our body are completely regenerated approximately every 3 months, it is clear that man is basically what he eats and how the action of cooking is primarily an act of love towards oneself. This is why Roberto& Co. want to pay tribute to the people involved in this sacred and life-giving daily gesture, giving them a “package” of emotions / feelings ready-to-use: a tasty and at the same time healthy and environmentally friendly recipe; a nice cocktail to sip as you proceed between rinsing, cutting and cooking; a pleasant and inspiring soundtrack and last but not least, the visual harmony of drawings and words. We can only wish... buon appetito! MY WAY is: Roberto Abbadati, a “sui generis” chef and atypical interpreter of “planet Food” together with Thomas Colombo, mixologist by necessity before passion; Alessia Rubagotti, a fashion designer always linked to the world of art and a lover of beauty; Miky Boselli, a deejay at Radio Number One, food lover. Album To better interpret and realize this summer tasting recipe, I suggest you to pamper your ears with the sound of “High Times-The Best of Fool’s Garden “. German pop-rock band that offers a healthy harmonic and melodic rock sound with pop, drums and soft guitars that accompany the beautiful voice of Peter Freudenthaler. In particular, I suggest “25 miles to Kissimmee” as music background: skillfully played keyboards, accompanied by a present but not central guitar, performing with (German) perfection. Good listening and Buon Appetito!

Procedure: Gently handle the squash blossoms and remove the spikes of the crown at the base of the flower and the pistil inside; in a bowl, work the ingredients of the filling and, once inserted into a sac-àpoche, gently stuff the flowers; put flowers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and, after being brushed lightly with some melted butter, sprinkle some coffee powder; in the meantime, wash the zucchini, slice them diagonally into slices about 2 mm thick, thinly slice the garlic cloves and chop the anchovies; in a large low triple steel or ceramic bottom pan, gently simmer the shallots with the garlic and anchovies with a little bit of oil, as soon as the anchovies are dissolved, raise the heat and add the slices of zucchini. Sauté over high heat constantly mixing, at the end add salt and pepper, sprinkle with thyme, raisins (drained) and pine nuts; heat up the slices of bread and place on plates, pour over the sautéed zucchini and garnish with the stuffed zucchini flowers baked in the oven at 180-200 ° C for about 3-4 minutes; garnish with some sprigs of thyme, some olive oil and serve immediately. When I think of May, other than the long days, what immediately comes to mind is the warmth, almost summer and the sudden downpours! Nothing better than this quick and easy recipe to describe this bit ambiguous month but, at the same time, full of positivity which, probably because of its position in the calendar, makes me extremely happy and purposeful for the fast approaching summer! The zucchini, normally frugal in taste, are emphasized here with some excellent travel companions such as the anchovies, garlic and thyme; as if that was not enough, you add the right touch of bitter from the raisins that marries the flavor of toasted pine nuts and, last but not the least, the flowers, which, in addition to their decadent creamy ricotta filling, create a little havoc among the taste buds with lemon-coffee combination. Best wishes for a wonderful summer: warm, sunny but... never predictable! Hold the martini glass always by the stem and never from the glass to avoid warming up the cocktail.

Cocktail Considering the classic dish, with a timeless combination of zucchini and their flowers, I could not help but get inspired by an “old school” mix. An excellent drink, not too strong but a little punch at the same time, which is well suited to be sipped during the preparation of this dish, and why not, even during the meal: the Garibaldi, or Campari and orange juice. Starting from this legendary cocktail, for obvious reasons of seasonality, we propose a creative variation, which, while keeping the “blood line” with the founder, better suite this time of the year: 4 cl Campari Bitter, 1 teaspoon of Maraschino, 3 teaspoons of sour orange marmalade, 5-6 ice cubes

TUMBLER VARIATION (LOW AND WIDE CYLINDRICAL GLASS) SERVED “ON THE ROCKS”. Empty all the ingredients into a tumbler, cover and close with the Boston (the metal part of the shaker), shake vigorously for a few seconds, remove the tumbler and pour the content in the glass.

VARIATION FOR MARTINI CUP. Served obviously with no ice, leave in the freezer a few Martini cups, empty all ingredients in the shaker, close with the Boston (metal lid), shake vigorously for a few seconds, open, place the strainer (sieve that blocks the ice) on the Boston and pour into Martini glass, sip the cocktail holding the Martini glass by the stem, and never from the glass to avoid warming up the cocktail.

“COOKING IS LIKE LOVE... YOU GIVE YOURSELF COMPLETELY OR YOU GIVE UP.“ (Harriet Van Horne)

flowers & Zucchini INGREDIENTS (serves 4): 12 zucchini flowers with their mini-zucchini attached, 1 shallot, peeled and sliced thinly, 2 cloves of pink spring garlic (fresh and full of water), 3-4 salted anchovies, desalted, and deprived of their backbone, 1 tablespoon of raisins, soaked in 3-4 tablespoons of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of toasted pine nuts, 1 teaspoon of thyme leaves, 4 slices of rustic bread baked in the oven at 150 ° C for about 3-4 minutes (just long enough to make them crispy) and, if desired, lightly rubbed with a clove of garlic cut in half and sprinkled with a few drops of extra virgin olive oil, 5-6 finely crushed coffee beans, some extra virgin olive oil, some melted butter, salt and black pepper STUFFING: about 250g of buffalo ricotta, 1 tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese, the leaves of 4-5 sprigs of thyme, the zest of 1/2 lemon (use a Microplane grater or similar), 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, salt and black pepper
