The curriculum of the Walker School of Business is designed to prepare students for management positions in business and industry, prepare students for management positions with federal, state and municipal agencies performing business functions, prepare students to become entrepreneurs and to prepare students for graduate and professional schools. Mercyhurst College, through its Walker School of Business, has the following degree programs accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education: • Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting • Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Competitive Intelligence, • Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, • Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance; • Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resource Management; • Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrated Marketing; • Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business • Bachelor of Arts degree in Management; • Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport Business Management. • Bachelor of Arts degree in Business with Business/Computer/Information Technology Certification (K-12); The Walker School of Business curriculum is designed to provide students with: a. development of the “whole person” through a basic liberal-arts course of study b. development of communication skills, both oral and written c. a broad base of business courses for general understanding of the world of business d. specialized study in a functional area of business e. analytic and decision-making tools f. off-campus work experience (internship and cooperative education program), where theory from coursework is put into practice.

THE WALKER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ACADEMIC POLICIES CORE COURSES

The business majors require the successful completion of 37 credits of common business core courses. In addition, a teacher certification program is offered. Students may major in business with a concentration in Business/Computer Information Technology Certification (K-12). Students must earn an overall 2.75 GPA in all required business courses in order to meet graduation requirements. Students who select more than one major, or who select a major and minor or minors within business, may only take three overlapping courses with the exception of the business or major core. This policy establishes the uniqueness of each intellectual discipline and assures the intellectual integrity of dual majors and minors. Business majors are required to take two mathematics courses as part of the Mercyhurst College Core Curriculum. No required business or math courses may be taken on a pass-fail basis by business majors or minors. Students who earn less than a “C” in a required business or mathematics course must repeat the course. Mathematics course grades are not calculated into the business G.P.A. No math course number below Math 109 is accepted. Students should review the Academic Honesty policies as stated in the Academic Standards portion of this catalog. these policies apply to all Mercyhurst College students.

ADMISSION TO THE WALKER SCHOOL

Freshmen students who have declared a business major and who wish to complete their requirements in the Walker School of Business must meet and maintain the Mercyhurst College and the Walker School of Business academic requirements and must initiate an application process during fall term of their sophomore year in order to be formally admitted to the Walker School of Business. Students who wish to apply for admission to the Walker School of Business must: 1. Complete at least three business courses with a minimum GPA of 2.75. 2. Submit an application to the Walker School of Business during the fall term (by October 31). Applications may be obtained from the office of the department chairperson, any business faculty member, or the department secretary. 3. Submit two recommendation forms from faculty members in the Walker School of Business. 4. Return all completed forms to the department secretary. Upon receipt of the student’s formal application, the Walker School of Business faculty will review the student’s qualifications. If necessary, the faculty may also request an interview with the student.
