Are you ready to become a healthcare professional? school of allied health Certificates and Associate of Science Degrees The School of Allied Health offers a variety of certificate and degree programs that provide exciting career opportunities. When you enroll in one of our many programs, you will develop expertise, scientific knowledge, and a professional attitude that will prepare you for a rewarding career. Each program focuses on a specific aspect of healthcare and adheres to standards and guidelines established in collaboration with the appropriate accrediting agency. Certificate programs are based on a foundation of practical skills that can be mastered in one year. Associate of Science degree programs are generally completed in a two-year period and are based upon a foundation of liberal arts and sciences that is essential for an informed and productive career.

school of liberal arts & sciences Bachelor of Science Degrees The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers two bachelor of science degree programs based upon a foundation of liberal arts and sciences that is essential for an informed and productive career. The Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree program provides a strong foundation in laboratory science with a specialization in healthcare. A Health Science degree is extremely compatible with many areas of healthcare in high demand. You can explore a number of possible career fields at the same time, in preparation for further graduate study, including medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, or clinical laboratory sciences. In addition, the School offers a bachelor of science completion program in Health Care Administration which allows you to continue working while pursuing a bachelor’s degree. This program has been built and designed for people who have completed their associate’s degree and/or hold a healthcare certification.

school of nursing Associate and Bachelor of Science Degrees The School of Nursing offers two degree programs for students wishing to pursue nursing. Graduates of the Associate of Science in Nursing program who go on to receive a registered nurse (RN) license have a wide variety of employment opportunities after only two years of study. As an RN, you may choose to work in a traditional setting such as a clinic, hospital, or private physician practice. Or you may consider a nontraditional job opportunity, such as an assisted living or long-term care facility nurse, an occupational nurse at an employer’s job site, or as a public health nurse in a government agency or school. Students may also consider the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Integrated Option which assists students without a registered nurse license with many of the necessary liberal arts and science college credits already completed while pursuing the bachelor of science in nursing professional courses during a three-year program of study. Additionally, the School offers an online bachelor of science completion program which allows you to continue working as a registered nurse while pursuing your bachelor’s degree providing the basis for advanced practice and specialization within the profession.

Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) students who have completed a previous bachelorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s degree or a majority of the required liberal arts and science credits wishing to enter the Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion degree (BSN) may choose the Integrated Option. The Integrated Option leads ASN students to initial eligibility for the registered nurse licensing examination, while progressing with their coursework towards a BSN.

nursing [rn to bsn] The Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion degree online program is a course of study designed for registered nurses. The program prepares you for leadership, community health, research, and education roles. Registered nurses who have a diploma and a current, valid license will receive 39 credit hours towards their nursing BSN. You will have the option to complete your preceptorship on an Indian Reservation as an immersion experience.

Advanced Technology The campus features technologicallyadvanced classrooms and lecture halls, a multi-media/electronic library, health science laboratories, professional skills laboratories with Laerdal SimBaby and SimMan Patient Simulators, and student computer classrooms and laboratories.

Student Success Center The Student Success Center provides students with opportunities to enhance their education through counseling for academic, personal and emotional support, free peer and non-peer tutoring, testing accommodations for students needing ADA accommodations as well as students who need to make up exams due to illness or injury.

Service Learning Opportunities Service learning is a process whereby students learn and develop through active participation in organized service experiences that meet community needs. Service learning provides students opportunities to use their acquired skills and knowledge in real life situations in their communities; this enhances teaching by extending student learning into the community and helps foster a sense of caring for others, as well as giving students real-world experiences in healthcare delivery.

In 2011-12 Mercy College awarded an estimated $12,017,006 through loans, grants, work-study aid and scholarships. Over ninety percent of Mercy College students receive some form of financial aid.

Planning Ahead We make the admission process for a health science education as easy and as smooth as possible.

Financial Aid Federal financial aid programs are available to qualifying students enrolled in any Mercy College associate or bachelor degree and qualifying certificate programs. State funds are available for degree-seeking students who qualify. Many forms of financial aid are tied directly to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students and their spouses or parents must complete this application to qualify for financial aid. It is recommended that this be submitted on the Internet. Submitting early ensures that you will be considered for all available aid. Our financial aid officers would be happy to visit with you to determine if you qualify.

definitions Accreditation - College accreditation is the review of the quality of educational institutions and programs. Accreditation is an important method that students, families, government officials, and the media know that an institution or program provides a quality education and adheres to criteria set by the accrediting agency ensuring the institution meets academic and organizational standards. Clinical - Hands-on learning at off-site healthcare facilities allowing students to work side-by-side with faculty, mentors, peers, and experienced healthcare professionals as they refine their direct patient care skills. Skills Labs - Replicates clinical learning environments on campus. SIM Baby and Man™ - Simulation Technology provides students with simulated patient care clinical experience through robotics. With realistic anatomy and clinical functionality, simulation allows learners to practice their skills in a risk-free environment. Preceptorship - Practical experience for a student that is supervised by a healthcare professional who is recognized as a clinical expert in his/her field. Practicum - Course of study with direct, real world patient contact in the field, while under supervision of a professional. Allied Health – Clinical healthcare professions with direct patient care distinct from nursing. Completion Degree – Further or expanded study in a related study in a particular field that one pursues after earning a specific degree.

Short-term Certificate - Short-term certificate programs at Mercy College are held over the period of 7 to 17 weeks. NCLEX - National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is an examination for the licensing of Registered Nurses. All Registered Nursing candidates must pass this exam before becoming a licensed Registered Nurse. Certifications/Licensures - Most healthcare professionals are required to obtain a licensure or certification which they obtain after they have passed a state or national exam. This ensures the individual has attained the level of competency and met educational requirements necessary to ensure proper practice. Web-Based Courses - Course that uses online teaching/learning strategies 100% of the scheduled class times. There is no face-to-face contact scheduled with students. Web-Assisted Courses - Course that uses online teaching/learning strategies for more than 50% of the scheduled class times. These courses meet face-to-face less than 50% of the scheduled class dates.
