HPHT™, HIGH PRESSURE HIGH TEMPERATURE thread compound, has been specifi cally formulated to meet high performance requirements of proprietary, metal-to-metal seal and high-interference connection. It is designed utilizing today’s high-performance materials, which include “super” chrome and high-alloy steels. The particle size was selected which also allows it to seal 8-round and buttress thread forms. For large clearance, thread seal connection designs, RUN N SEAL ECF is advised. HPHT™ thread compound is an advanced base grease that is a carefully selected balance of synthetic oils with a biodegradable grease thickener technology. HPHT™ thread compound provides excellent adhesion and stability yet biodegrades and is environmentally safe based upon the HOCNF guidelines. The result is superior lubrication and ancillary sealing under high loads with galling resistance equivalent to heavy metal-based compounds in a totally metal-free formulation. In lab tests, HPHT™ thread compound has a friction factor equivalent to API MODIFIED. However, there may be connection types with which a higher/lower friction factor is incurred.

JET-LOK® II High-Friction and Sealing Compound

Storage Compound

KORR-GUARD is a water-displacing, semi-fluid grease. It easily flows into the thread roots, displacing moisture, cutting oils and residual threading materials. KORR-GUARD will allow the thread protectors to completely engage the pipe threads and will aid in eliminating moisture penetration to the newly threaded or recut threaded areas. Part no. KORR-GUARD will not run or drip off the JA78516 threads. This unique blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors made into a grease-type product is ideal for short or long-term storage of casing, tubing, drill pipe, or any metal surface requiring protection from the elements. Ideally suited for highly humid or salt water environments. KORR-GUARD can be applied by brush. It will not harden over time, so product can be removed by using a rag or cleaner. Service Rating: -40°F (-40°C) to 425°F (218°C)

Ideal for subsea riser bolt applications and all maintenance needs. RISER BOLT LUBE requires no thinning and will not harden, evaporate, or settle out. The Molybdenum disulfi de (MoS2) component bonds itself into steel working surfaces providing a longterm, low-friction shield that protects working parts, prevents galling, seizure, stick-slip, heat freeze and corrosion while sustaining lubrication. The rust-inhibiting base carrier in RISER BOLT LUBE is barium free, so it’s safer for marine life in offshore installations. With a salt fog resistance of >2000 hours at 5% NaCl, RISER BOLT LUBE is far superior to that of conventional grease carriers for long-term protection. A two-part epoxy with metallic fillers to permanently lock threaded connections under normal operating conditions. Improved catalyst adds pot life and durability with lower toxicity and rapid curing. For use on all threaded joints or fasteners where an exceptionally strong and durable bond is required. Especially useful on casing and other tubulars where the effective prevention of joint loosening is required. Also recommended for use on casing shoes, couplings and collars, eliminating the need for gas/arc welding. Important Notes for Make-Up Water for Dilutions of Stack-Magic ECO-F v2 Under no circumstances should Stack-Magic ECO-F v2 be exposed to make-up water containing calcium hypochlorite tablets (sometimes used to prepare potable water). Houghton Offshore does not guarantee the hard water stability or lubrication performance if such calcium tablets are used. Sodium hypochlorite is an acceptable alternative for preparing BOP make-up water for mixed use as potable water.

If we consider that air when instantaneously compressed from atmospheric pressure to 1000 psi reaches an air temperature of 700°C (1292°F), then it can be understood that sudden higher compressions in compensator systems could raise the temperature sufficiently to constitute a fire or explosive risk. Hydro-pneumatic compensator systems usually incorporate long runs of high pressure pipe work with air over oil interface in their design. Systems of this type can be subjected to sudden extreme rises of temperature following instantaneous compression of the air, which acts due to its compressibility as the spring medium. In the mid 50’s the American Navy suffered catastrophic explosions due to the auto-ignition of mineral oil in two aircraft carrier catapult systems. These disasters established the requirements for a water based fluid to eliminate the possibility of auto-ignition occurring within the catapult mechanism, resulting in the Military Specification MIL-H-22072C.

HOUGHTO-SAFE NL1 A solution for Direct Acting Riser Tensioners Houghto-Safe NL1 has been designed to cope with the demanding conditions, seen, particularly in direct acting tensioner systems. This is largely due to its high levels of mixed hydrodynamic and boundary lubrication properties, validated in long-term cylinder tests - with results indicating that it has superior properties compared to other currently available water-glycol fluids—in terms of wear on the rod coating and the seal configuration. Houghto-Safe NL1 has been given an OCNS rating of “D” by Cefas and is registered on the NEMs database for Norway with much reduced “red” content, the remainder being yellow/green. COMPATIBILITY WITH SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Earlier generations of piston rod design in riser tensioner systems exploited the appli-cation of very “hard” thermally sprayed coatings which can have some surface porosity and encourage the hydraulic fluid to be retained in the coating surface profile. This promotes hydrodynamic lubrication of seals and guide bands during short/slow rod movements in certain ocean conditions (deepwater, long wavelength and high ambi-ent temperature). Later generations of DAT/N-Line piston rods are made from carbon steel coated with either a solid super duplex stainless steel (UNS S32750) or an overlay welded cobalt based alloy (typical UNS R31233). These have very good corrosion resistance proper-ties in seawater and marine environments but have reduced surface hardness. The latter can lead to polishing, of the rod surface, particularly around the mid-stroke (main working) area. Some work-hardening may be experienced and some wear marks are often observed if the system is not cleaned regularly. Short piston rod movements combined with mid-section polished surfaces indicate that surface retention of hydraulic fluid has been reduced. This leads to boundary lu-brication rather than hydrodynamic lubrication. Boundary lubrication is less likely to promote sufficient exchange or flow of hydraulic fluid in “gaps” between seals and guide bands inside tensioner cylinders. At lower velocities, a thinner lubricating fluid film is generated that may lead to higher friction. This friction creates heat which rais-es the temperature in the system. Degradation of hydraulic fluid (evidenced by accelerated reduction in pH) has been ob-served in some DAT/N-Line systems. Such degradation includes the formation of sticky, high viscosity, black residues that contain metal fines. Metal fines have been shown to react with organic acidic additives in the fluid— under certain conditions, this can re-sult in the observed black residues. These residues are of concern as they may deposit around sealing elements. It is also of concern that deposits might reach the interiors of antirecoil valves and cause the system to fail. In addition to the above, the cylinder bore surface is often uncoated, untreated low-alloy carbon steel that has reduced corrosion and corrosive wear resistance under low-er pH conditions. Bonded Valve and Full Open Seat Southwest Oilfield Products’ full open valve with bonded insert has replaced the slip-on insert valves. This design is permanently bonded to the valve body; it reduces the tendency for fluids to penetrate between the polyurethane insert and the valve body, thus preventing premature failure. The full open design of the valve seat is far superior to webbed style seats for many reasons: • Increased throughput

• Reduced wear and tear on fluid-end seat deck

• Even loaded surface compared to a webbed valve seat

Centrifugal Pump Parts

Centrifugal Pump Shaft Baker SPD assures the performance of the pump shaft by specifying the highest quality, fatigue-resistant alloy steel, which is machined. The shaft is designed to transmit the required horsepower for maximum output in the most severe applications.

Centrifugal Pump Shaft Sleeve A protective sleeve is designed to cover and protect the shaft form abrasive fluids. The sleeve is made from ceramic-coated 416 stainless steel or uncoated steel when used with mechanical seal.

Centrifugal Pump Impeller A semi-open design has been selected for sized from 5 x 4 x 14 in. through 8 x 6 x 14 in. The semi-open vane design provides efficient fluid intake and discharge through the power side of the impeller. The impeller is designed with back vanes, which reduces wear on the stuffing box face. The back vanes also reduce wear by limiting the inflow of solids to the stuffing box, which increases mechanical seal life.

Centrifugal Pump Wear Pad Replaceable wear pads are available to extend the life of casings. Baker SPD casings are designed with wear pads in sizes 4 x 3 x 13 in. through 8 x 6 x 14 in. Wear pad repair kits include studs and stainless steel nuts to assure ease of replacement.

Centrifugal Pump Mechanical Seal Baker SPD has a premier, heavyduty tungsten carbide seal. The seal face is highly polished tungsten carbide on tungsten carbide. Viton速 bellows allows expansion without binding and provides high temperature resistance. Flexible bellows design allows spring force to easily move seal faces together for extended seal life.

Centrifugal Pump Bearings Baker SPD specifies bearings of the highest quality from premier bearing manufacturers. The bearings are interchangeable with other popular 2.5 in. pump models. The outboard bearing is a duplex configuration with angular ball contact to satisfy the maximum power input requirement. The inboard bearing is a double row angle contact configuration for maximum run life.

Jack Bolts

The Labyrinth Seal or Isolator is a two-piece device used to Isolator is a two-piece device used to isilate the Bearings from harmfull contaminants, while keeping the Bearings lubricated. Labyrinth Seals use two different components; a rotor and a stator. The rotor is attached to the shaft through a ring and rotates with it, thus decreasing shaft wear. The statior portion of the Labyrinth Seal is stationary and press fit into the Housing. These two pieces lock with an O-ring to form a single working unit. This configuration, while turning, is free from mechanical contact. The Labyrinth Seals are abrasion and corrosion resistant for longer life.

The MUD HOG™ uses two [2] 3/4 in. stainless steel Jack Bolts to assist in the replacement of the Casing. There is a build up of material between the Casing and stuffing Box during normal operation. This build up can make it difficult to remove the Casing. Conventional pry bars, crow bars and other tools do not distribute an even force and may cause bending. The Jack Bolts allow an even distribution of pressure to the Casing for ease in removal.

Centrifugal Pump Frame The MUD HOG’s frame is made from cast iron for strength and durabillity. The frame has been deesigned to withstand high piping loads that can result in shorter Bearing life. The MUD HOG™ frame is built to handle various applications an working conditions. Stuffing Box bolts Two Stuffing Box bolts are set up 180 degrees apart to hold the stuffing Box in place. The positioning of the bolts allows the Casing to be replaced without interfering with the Stuffing Box or hampering removal of the Casing.

Stainlesss Steel Casing Nuts Casing replacement has been made easier by utilizing stainless steel Casing Nuts. stainless steel is more corrosion resistant than conventional steel. the use of stainless steel material minimizes the need for frequent replacement of the Casing Nuts which are otherwise worn out by rust and/or removal tools

FORUM SPD manufactures a complete line of Float Valves, Repair Kits, and Puller Assemblies to accommodate a wide range of drilling situations and operating conditions, including H2S and Steam Service. These Drill Pipe Float Valves provide added blowout protection at the bottom of the drillstring, prevent flowback when joints are added, and keep cuttings out of the drillpipe to prevent bit plugging while making connections. CAGES & GS Cage construction of the various Models F and G includes ductile iron, and there is an option for low alloy steel cage in some Model F sizes. Hardness levels of these are at or below 22 Rockwell C to resist hydrogen sulfide stress cracking when used for H2S applications. The Model GS cage is made from low alloy steel. Stainless Steel available upon request.

Model G and GA DPFV

Flappers for Model G/GA are made of normalized, carbonized, quenched, and tempered low alloy steel to resist wear and erosion. The flapper valve opens fully during circulation providing an unrestricted bore through the valve thereby effectively prolonging the life of the valve and drill collar as there is no diversion of fluid against the drill collar ID.

The Model G “Flapper Type� Full Open Valve incorporates a specially designed flapper which opens quickly and fully to provide a completely unrestricted bore through the valve. The Model G is especially good for use with highly abrasive fluids. When circulation stops, the flapper closes instantly to prevent cuttings from entering the drill string and plugging the bit. The valve opens when the first joint is raised out of the hole assuring the first joints drain and are not pulled wet. The flapper-type valve complements primary blowout prevention equipment to provide complete internal pressure control.

The Model GA Differentail Pressure Monitoring Valve is identical to the Model G except for a hardened1/4 in. diameter tungsten carbide orifice bean insert in the flapper to provide automatic partial filling of the drillpipe during running in. This valve is used when monitoringthe bit head for gas pressure and/or gas pockets, allowing measurement of differential pressure when required.
