Blues City Classic All-Tournament Team Sophomore pitcher Ellen Roberts and freshman left fielder Breslin Perry earned Blues City Classic All-Tournament Team honors after Memphis went 2-3 in the tournament. Roberts posted a 1.78 ERA in 19.2 IP in the tournament and struck out 24 batters. Perry earned the honors after hitting .400 in the tourney and knocking in the game-winning run in the 10th inning against Western Illinois. The Poole Era Begins In new Memphis head coach Natalie Poole’s first tournament with the Tigers, she guided the team to a 2-2 finish at the Mardi Gras Invitational. Poole’s first Memphis victory was a 10-5

In 11 years, she has a career record of 316-311. Aggressive on the Base Path Memphis head coach Natalie Poole’s aggressive style of play on the base paths has immediately been evident. In the first four games of the season, the Tigers have scored twice on suicide squeeze attempts. Memphis scored on sac bunts against both Jacksonville State and South Alabama. The run off the squeeze against USA proved to be the game winner in a 3-1 victory. Memphis has also stolen six bases and has a total of seven sac hits. Additionally, 17 of the 2012 opponents finished the 2011 season ranked in the top 100 RPI with 10 of those teams finishing in the top 50. Phillips and Hummel Named to Preseason All-C-USA Team Senior first baseman Jessica Phillips and junior pitcher Carly Hummel were both named to the 2012 Preseason All-Conference USA Team as selected by the league’s nine coaches. Hummel joins Tulsa sophomore Aimee Creger as the two pitchers represented on the list. As a sophomore, Hummel went 21-8 with a 1.46 ERA and 196 strikeouts. Phillips set school records last year in home runs (15) and RBI (44) and finished second on the team with a .336 batting average.
